The Battle is Joined
So nice to fire up the game to check on the OL Food Fight III to see the Asylum visit to Shinbone is finished and see that the Keepers showed some moxie and evened up the season series with a sweep of their own. About time boys.

Bronze OL Update

Looks like things are beginning to shape up to look a lot last week's race. Hidden Valley is in the top stop and has yet to hit the meat of their OL schedule.

War Robots Begin Defense Early in OL I181
1 Attachment(s)
The schedule makers have gotten Krikkit into action earlier as they climbed into first, negating today's Willie sighting. Sad to report, but in seeing that Hootersville and Transylvania had seen limited action, I checked ahead (easy with the +) and found that the Haymakers will only have nine OL games this season, thus making them ineligible for the iron crown chase. The Impalers have enough, 14, I think.
I know I whined about it quite a bit last year, so I guess just this once, I can complain that I think it would be easy for the friends list to distribute teams one per division first, instead of packing them as the game often does. Then again, see Charlatan's comment about the crappy scheduling in general, i.e. 10 of 19 games against a team in one month), and you get the idea that a fix ain't coming. That unrealistic situation can't be too tough to avoid. It's funny how many people comment about minor things that "ruin my immersion," yet seem not to notice how un-lifelike the schedules are. Ah well, guess I'm done. Thanks for listening. |
Looks like my Black Oak Arkansas team is in your ST130 league.
Just picked up Juan Guzman and Ralph Garr to beef things up a bit. That's all my points as this is a FTP team. edit: I see my Led Zeppelins are there also with the Gutter Cats. |

Stone league update:
Hartford and Waffletown share the top spot after the first two months (Syrups by standing pat and not playing any OL games since April :p). |

Looking ahead...

The Ulysses Fairsmith Baseball Consortium (UFBC), has purchased the complete holdings of the Port Ruppert Mundys, Asylum Keepers, and Terra Incognita Rustlers, including all player contracts, real estate, licensing, and other interests. Those with a long memory (or who have read Phillip Roth's "The Great American Novel), will remember him as the stoic leader of the team during the demise of the Patriot League.
Bob Yamm, the chief spokesman for the group, said that "...there would be no change in personnel, except to blend those who are already here with the new arrivals. We are very happy with the teams' personnel, and will make no changes." As for the teams themselves, the Rustlers have no OL games on the schedule today. The Keepers visit Shinbone for three games in mid month, and the Mundys face what may become a make-or-break segment for their OL hopes this season. Port Ruppert plays 10 home OL games this month, and surely will need to hold serve strongly to remain relevant this season. |
Hooterville is Struggling with a capital "S".
The Haymaker's pitching has been great however, over have of the position players can't do anything offensively. Unless lighting comes down and strikes my dugout, Hooterville will not be promoted to the next level, for next season. BTW, does anyone besides me have the 75 rated Joe Dimaggio? He his no where close to the offensive weapon he use to be. In 2021 he started in 8 games and had only 3 hits and 3 BB having a .107 AVG, a .219 OBP, and a .107 SLG In 2022 he started 35 games and had only 26 hits, 19 BB having a .218 AVG, .329 OBP, and a .378 SLG In 2023 he started 18 games and had only 12 hits, 4 BB having a .188 AVG, a .246 OBP, and a .359 SLG. Is anyone else seeing lousy numbers by him, or am I just the lucky one? I am half tempted on unloading him in the AH. I picked him up early on for around 1,000 pp and right now I would be looking at possible a 7,000+ pp profit! |

Seems like a smart move to me. |
What's up OL folks! Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for upping the level of competition for us BFFers this week. Looks like we've got some real playoff races in bronze on the NC side! Best of luck to everyone.

Stars Gift Denies Shinbone a Home Sweep
1 Attachment(s)
The OL Food Fight III again headed to Shinbone, where the teams battled through three one-run games, with the Stars taking two and the series lead at five-games-to-four. With Asylum leading, 3-2, Ray Blades launched a two-out, bottom-of-the-9th, homer off Asylum closer Brad Lesley, to send the game into the 11th, whence Bill Dickey parked one off Dick Radatz, also with two down, making the final 4-3. The Stars took a 5-3 lead into the 9th, but the Keepers scored to close within one, before Bobby Tiefenauer rescued Paul Shuey and recorded the final two outs in a 5-4 victory. Shinbone chased Asylum starter Larry French after five frames in the finale, leading 5-0, but the Keepers chipped away as four relievers held the Stars scoreless. In the top of the 8th, Ray Blades, game one's hero, misplayed a line drive by Magglio Ordonez and Asylum were the benefactors of a 6-5 gift, avoiding the sweep. The teams travel back to Sanitarium Hills Stadium in July for a four game set.

I decided to bite the bullet and got the 97 Bagwell card by collecting the Houston cards.
I ended up spending 9837 PP to get the collection. Now, I just noticed him on the AH for 11,000 buy now. So, I still came out ahead, but not by much!! Now I am going for the AL West cards. |
Bronze OL Update
2 Attachment(s)
Hidden Valley played .500 ball in OL games yesterday surrendering their lead to Weston Pointe who went 5-1. Cary is currently in second place.
A look at the bronze standings at the halfway point shows three OL teams with a legitimate shot at the playoffs. In the AC Hidden Valley has a hold on the top wildcard spot but trails by 11 games in their division. In the AC Weston Pointe and Kansas hold down the wildcard spots and both teams are within striking distance of the division lead. |

With Asylum and Shinbone fairly firmly entrenched in the middle of silver, I think it's fair to warn them that something's coming for them next season. They should enjoy their Food Fight fun while they can. |

Mundys Try to keep Robots in Sight
1 Attachment(s)
Port Ruppert won eight straight home games to keep Krikkit on the radar. Unfortunately, there followed two straight home losses to the War Robots before the Mundys righted the ship and earned a split of the four-game set. The two leaders seem to be setting themselves apart from the rest of OL, in the early going, at least.
