SLIGO AND HIGH MESA WIN 3RD IN A ROW
The Sligo Rovers and High Mesa Mustangs are both on a tear... yesterday the Rovers ripped Pro Cup favorite Marston 8-1 and the Mustangs muscled past Denton City 11-7... it was their third straight wins in the best-of-seven series... after dropping the first two games, defending Pro Cup titleholder Crystal Lake got back into its series with Valmara, pounding the Vipers 9-6 in game three... and Oxford took a 2-1 lead over the Ginza Ninjas with a 7-5 triumph.

Hope you will make a prediction.

This thread needs more interaction, me thinks.

My choice to win the Pro Cup this year is the Marston Nine... they seem to be loaded.

Actually, in past seasons, I have seen lowly-rated clubs regularly win the Pro Cup.

The last two years, '57 and '58, showed that a very good-hitting club with less-than-average pitching could win the Pro Cup... the Red Bluff Red Sox did it in '57 and the Crystal Lake Skippers in '58.

i'm going with the Marston Nine, too. :eatpop:

Ugh.. i spoke too soon. Hopefully, the Nine can rally. Otherwise, i'll need another team to root for...

Me, too... really missed it this year... don't think Marston will win 4 straight.from Sligo… the Rovers really have good pitching... and they are hitting much better than I thought.

Ugh, that Rover rotation is tough. It may take an Earl Weaver type team (power & pitching) to beat them.

3 TEAMS HANGIN' ON, SKIPS IN TROUBLE
Three teams are rolling in the clover and three are just barely hangin' on to the edge of the proverbial cliff in the perilous Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup playoffs... Sligo, Valmara and High Mesa have huge 3-1 leads in their series, while Pro Cup favorite Marston, last year's Pro Cup winner Crystal Lake and Denton City are very much in peril of elimination... to stay in the postseason playoffs the latter trio will have to do the almost impossible... they will have to win four consecutive games to advance to the League Championship round... this has rarely happened in IPA circles... only four times has this transpired.

In 2001, Ginza did it in the first round of play... in 2009 Pro Cup champion Turon amazingly triumphed in the Pro Cup Finals... in 2015 Bay St. Clair turned it around in the opening round... and most recently in the 2035 Tycobbian Elite 8 Series, Tuckanarra rallied from a 3-0 deficit to move to the next round.

In Sunday's action, Marston mopped up on Sligo 6-2... Valmara lambasted Crystal Lake 12-7... and Denton City got new life with a 3-2 win in 10 innings over High Mesa... in the other series Oxford has its hands full with the Ginza Ninjas... they have split four games this far... the Ninjas nudged out the Red Caps 4-3 to tie it up at two games apiece.

SLIGO, HIGH MESA ADVANCE TO LEAGUE FINALS
High Mesa its first-round series as expected and Sligo unexpectedly won its first-round series... they both captured a spot in their league finals with victories in 5 games... the Mustangs edged Denton City 3-2 to eliminate the Redbirds from the playoffs, while the Sligo Rovers stunned mighty Marston 3-2 to wrapup that series... the Nine were rated the favorite to take the Pro Cup trophy this year by the baseball experts... the Rovers were picked number 7 out of the 8 teams.

VIPERS AND RED CAPS UP BY A GAME 3-2
In other action, last year's Pro Cup champion Crystal Lake nipped Valmara 6-5 to keep their hopes for back-to-back Pro Cup trophies... but they still trail the Vipers three games to two with both of the remaining games on Valmara's home diamond... in the only other postseason game Oxford made quick work of the Ginza Ninjas 7-0 to go one-up in that series, three games to two.

SKIPS, NINJAS FORCE 7TH GAME
It a baseball fan's delight... the 7th game of a playoff series... and you get two of them on the same day... reigning Pro Cup winner Crystal Lake is trying real hard to repeat again as IPA champion... yesterday they fought off elimination again with another 4-3 squeaker over the Valmare Vipers in the Ruthlandian Union first round... and the upstart Ginza Ninjas did the same thing in the Tycobbian Union... the Karate Kids blitzed the highly-rated Oxford Red Caps 7-0 to tie their best-of-seven series at three games each... both seventh-game finales will be played this afternoon.

The Karate Kids will have to beat a 20-game winner... Oxford's Wiley Beckford was 20-8 with a 3.59 ERA.

Ginza will give the starting assignment to young Sparky Dane, who posted an 8-4 mark with an impressive 2.88 ERA... he had rough going in the first half of the season, but got rolling in the second half, when he got back into the regular rotation in August.

Neither were effective in game three of the series, won by the Red Caps 7-5... neither of them got the decision... Beckford allowed 5 runs in his 6 innings... and Dane was tagged for 5 runs in 6 innings... the game was deadlocked 5-5 when they exited... Oxford won in 12 innings.

I'll take the easy way out... it's a toss-up... either one of them can win.

VALMARA AND GINZA ADVANCE TO LEAGUE FINALS
In seventh-game showdowns, the Valmara Vipers crushed and sunk the repeat hopes of the Crystal Lake Skippers for back-to-back Pro Cup trophies... and the darlings of the IPA playoffs, the Ginza Ninjas, surprised powerhouse Oxford and sent them packing from the postseason.

The potent Vipers, now the highest-rated club left in the Pro Cup playoffs, got a stunning comeback 9-6 victory over the Skippers to advance to the Ruthlandian Union title series against the seventh-ranked Sligo Rovers, who upset top-ranked Marston in first round action... Valmara was the second choice to win the Pro Cup trophy this year... and it will be the number eight choice, the unheralded Ginza Ninjas, better known these days as the Karate Kids, taking on the number-three rated team, the strong High Mesa Mustangs in the Tycobbian Union title series... the Ninjas whipped the Red Caps 4-1 to cop the series four games to three... they came back from a 3-2 deficit by capturing the last two games of the series.
