Good on ya! |
I'm looking for any thoughts about using starting pitchers in the bullpen. I think they would be good for long relief or emergency starters.
I thought I read somewhere that they can't be used in back to back games if they are in the bullpen? |

For what it's worth I look for best available vs price for the bullpen regardless of whether they are an SP or a RP. I am training up Jay Bell at 3rd the past couple of days so he can backup two position and can expand my bullpen to 12 for next week. I plan to put another starter in as long relief "avoid high leverage" Given I use a 5 man rotation and no starters in relief I don't designate an emergency SP |

Once you start using starting pitchers in your bullpen, you'll never go back. You may have to do a little testing on your own as some SP will do better in the rotation and some will do better in the bullpen. I have also seen some pitchers get lit up in the rotation and do good in the bullpen, during the same season, and vice-versa. |

never had any problems here with starters in the pen.... and with my theme, it's almost a requirement since relievers/closers are few and far between pre-1945. my current staff is basically all starters except for my closer |

Going to have some fun races to the wire in the Stone league....
in the AC, Sierra Vista is only 4 games away from clinching the division. Terra Incognita has already clinched a playoff spot and is just 3 games from the division title; and both Hartford and Daytona Beach currently hold the wild card spots. in the NC, while Left Coast currently sits in 4th place in the East division, they are only 2.5 games back of the lead (and are closer to that than the wild card spot). In the West, Waffletown and Asheboro hold the wild card spots as both look to run down the division leader (and Waffletown could hopefully assist Left Coast, as the Syrups play 4 games against Hull City and 3 games against Macungie to finish out the season; so hopefully they can get hot, run the table and maybe we'll see every Stone tier OL team in the post season). |
Go LabRats
Right now, Left Coast is just three games back. In the important race, I think Terra Incognita has a magic number of 1, with only Waffletown capable of catching them.

Krikkit set for repeat in OL I181
The War Robots should add an iron OL crown after they took the measure of Port Ruppert at Glorious Mundy Stadium. They have finished their OL season. The Mundys still have nine OL games left to play, but need to run the table.

Is it Worth using Two-Way Pitchers?
Have any OL members had any good luck using two-way pitchers?
I can see the need of using position players to pitch in "emergency" situations however, I am not sure if it is worth letting normal pitchers go up to bat or pinch run, etc? Some of my two-way pitchers have been able to steal a bag or two in a few rare occurrences however, their batting average is normally well below the Mendoza Line, which leads to my original question. Thanks |
So as far as "good" SPs in pen, if you complete the mission that gives you SP Plank (91) --- he is pretty good as an SP and doesn't sell for much above quick-sell price. However, his STU goes up by 12 points as a reliever so he is an excellent choice to turn into an RP.

My bullpen is pretty much made up on mission rewards like Plank, Carlton, Nathan, etc. I can’t afford replacements.

Watch out for Southpaws next season
Well, Southpaws haven't been living up to their name so far, but all that changes next season. A few weeks back they were fortunate enough to draw perfect peak Hubbell in a tournament pack. After selling it for 320k, they used the funds to help finish all the live missions, and then they just sat on the rest for a few weeks.
Today, that all changed. I bought perfect peak Lefty Grove (100) in AH for 75k, peak Rube Waddell for 92k, ;perfect peak Joe Cronin for 82k, and, to top it off, peak Johnny Pesky (93) for 63k (not sure what I am going to do with both Cronin and Pesky yet, but it is a nice problem to have). Now I am broke but I have all the pieces to assemble a true Southpaw team next year. The Southpaws will remain in bronze next year (winning only about 90 games this year), but they will be much improved, and living up to their name. |

Bronze Final

Congratulations to Hidden Valley, the 2024 OL champion. Kansas went 6-0 in OL play to finish second with Cary finishing third. Weston Pointe had a tough September all the way around going 1-5 in OL play and dropped from second to forth.
In league play OL will only be represented by two teams in the Playoffs, one wildcard in each league. In the AC Hidden Valley (112-50) will host the Seattle Freeze (94-68). In the NC Kansas (114-48) will host Humboldt Green (106-56). Weston Pointe was holding down that second spot but a 15-11 September coupled with Humboldt winning their final ten found them 2 games back of the second spot in the loaded NC that saw seven teams finish with more than 100 wins. |

Krikkit took five-of-seven from Port Ruppert in head-to-head play, providing them their margin of victory for the OL iron crown.
In PT play, OL is well represented in the playoffs, the tree for which is attached. Also attached are the promotions and remainders. No one was relegated. K-town and Midwest had to battle to a 163rd game, with the Rock Piles grabbing a 4-2 road win over the Kaiju for the final PT wild card spot. |

A correction is in order here. Our League is the brain child of Bottom_of_the_Sixth, who advanced the idea of a way for like-minded persons to play back in PT 19. I, for one, was about to give up on the whole PT experience, when I saw his first "Looking for friends..." post. Thanks, Chad! |

Then Thank you Chad!... My Bad... sorry .. Kudos to you |
