I was just poking around the library of congress and found every spalding guide from the 1870's until 1930.Here's one page with Cleveland Naps outfielder Jim Jackson in photo number 5.This is a much better photo than the one available.I'm guessing by using these we can find better photos as well as some missing ones as well.

I am aware of a limited number of Spalding Guides available, commencing 1889, on this site but have not found ALL the guide's from 1870's until 1930. May I have the link please.

No you're right its only some of them,the rest of the are Indoor baseball? whatever that is.

A while back I emailed the Library of Congress to tell them how much
I had been browsing and enjoying the Spalding Guides available on-line and asked about any plans to make the rest available. Unfortunately the reply
was that there was no current plans to add any. SABR has all of them on microfilm and will loan to members for everybody out there with a microfilm
viewer stashed away somewhere. Too bad tho because I'm sure many missing player images are in those issues.

I have Reach/Spalding/Sporting News Guides for every year from 1895 to 2005 with the exception of a handful. I've spent a little bit of time scouring for missing players, but it's a big job. And a few of the older ones are a little bit too delicate to scan for fear of ruining them. I should be getting back into the swing of things on the player pic front over the next few weeks. I'll see what I can dig up.

I have a microfilm reader. just need to get money together for s & h.

I am currently going through the spalding guides and grabbing them. i have them on cd. Only the ones from the library of congress.
