My team, whom the Puppies beat like a rented mule, would say they definitely not pushovers. More like immovable objects.

Welcome aboard. If you haven't yet done it, look back in the thread to grab the current Friends List and check out the few rules we follow. Hope to see your team with the - OL and the + next week.

Long time diamond foes, starting back from early days of PT20 kicked off the start of their season with the Haymakers traveling into the very hostile confines, which the Vlora White Stallions call home, The Corral.

Even though both club names have changed, the history between these two storied franchises is very rich.

The old "Mudville Muffins", now the Hooterville Haymakers rolled in to The Corral to battle The old "Stephensville Bears", now the Vlora White Stallions.

Ed Walsh from Hooterville was given the honor of the starting pitching role. Walsh was a 19 game winner (19-7), one year ago.

On the mound for the Stallions was Eddie Plank, who is trying to rebound off of a dismal 2024 campaign where he finished with a 9-19 record.

The Haymakers were able to tie things up at 7, in the bottom of the 9th however, the baseball gods were on Vlora's side as C Ryan Doumit got to play Walk-Off-Hero, by hitting a run-scoring single, in the bottom of the 9th, setting off a celebration like no other!

Both teams are scheduled to battle it out tomorrow.

Will Hooterville be able to rebound and secure their first win of the season, or will Vlora flex their muscle again?

Tune in again to find out!

-30-

Alas, the opener has been one of the very few bright spots in Vlora's opening month. Mr. Plank has continued his dreadful pitching (0-3, 7.06 ERA) and the team trails the league in most every category.

Meanwhile, Hooterville has fashioned a respectable 8-7 record so far, including winning the last 2 of the aforementioned 3-game series with the White Stallions.

finally got a nice pull from a pack this season.... oh so tempted to scrap the old timey theme and slide him into the closer position, but going to stick to my theme guns and see if he can bring in some funds to nab someone else.... so if anyone needs a closer:

(as a Cardinals fan, the first thing I think of when I see Brad Lidge is that monstrous home run Pujols his off him in the playoffs )

The Kaiju crashed through the competition to begin the 2025 campaign while Hartford and Waffletown tried to keep them in sight.

The investment from the sale of Mookie Betts seems to be paying dividends! Completed the Nats collection this morning and slid Galarraga into the lineup for today.

After posting a record of 110-52 and winning the Iron Level Championship , Krikkit is struggling to stay above .500 at Bronze Level.

Bad pack luck and a slow down in collections resulted in the War Robots only adding 1 player to the roster in the offseason. 1930 RF Chuck Klein (93) replaces 1940 Wally Judnich (83) in right. To make room on the roster, 1996 RF Jay Buhner (82) was sent to the reserves.

After the first month of the season, the offense is about 5th in the league. While, the pitching sits about middle of the pack. I'm not sure how I'll improve the all-diamond starters without spending big bucks. But, the relievers are little more pp-friendly to upgrade.

Looking over position players, the most obvious upgrade need would be at catcher. 2000 C Mike Piazza SE has been targeted. His defense is trash, but he's certainly a better hitter. Besides, there seems to be much debate on whether catcher D matters or not.

I think someone ran a bunch of sims using baseline defensive players vs top level players and Catcher was 3rd in importance behind SS and CF. This was in OOTP and in the regular game not PT, but I think the sim engine should be pretty much the same.

jeffstified 04-28-2020 09:54 AM

Yeah, I'd like to think catcher D matters, seems to be a bit of disagreement, though. I do prioritize defense and, honestly, didn't realize Piazza's was so bad. Anyway, he's just a stepping stone to Yogi when I get all the live cards collected.

Whalers holding tough in first season in Iron. Many underachievers (in my opinion) despite the +.500 record at this level. Im 4 players away from completing Astros LIVE mission for Bagwell, but sitting at 100PP and will need to practice patience. It will be several days before I accumulate enough to finish this mission. Entering a few tournaments but no luck so far. Only immediate hope is for Tourney pack luck. Gotta keep telling myself this will be a marathon and not a sprint!

We've reached 31

The Friends List is now at 31, as I added bighurtt56's Missoula Red Baron to the master list. That means that, from now on, it will be up to each of to make sure we have the 30 teams closest to our own level on our list and adjust each week as we go along. Thanks, and tell a friend.

Krikkit will finally see some action today with 10 games (20 overall). Cary only has 15 more on the season and Transylvania 24

In teams with enough games to qualify for the crown currently, there is Weston Pointe and then the rest of us.

Midwest continues to lead, but is now stalked closely by Brigadoon, Hartford and Hooterville. The other chasers can even join the race with a hot streak, now that the Kaiju seem a bit more vulnerable. A key to the tightening was an early three-games-to-one home series victory for Terra Incognita over Midwest. Two unannounced, but important visitors were spotted by a Times reporter in the owners box in the stands. Emi and Yumi Ito, directors of Education and Mental training at the Ulysses Fairsmith Fukuoka Baseball Academy had not been expected before the Fairsmith Group's annual conference, during the post season. Hmm...

Interesting Pack

Had a half-dozen tourney packs to pull during morning coffee. Unfortunately, they yielded nothing of great use and the total sale value, with no good live pulls, will be maybe 1500 PP. There was, however, the attached pack. Doesn't seem to have any great value, but, in a way I can't explain, seems kind of cool to me. Any thoughts?

Charlatan 04-29-2020 09:30 AM

If that’s a regular pack that’s a pretty cool haul.

Catcher defense seems to be one of his things that is really hard to get a handle on. I have seen people run simulations on the OOTP boards using great defensive catchers and poor defense catchers and tell the truth it was not clear what the effect was. I know that for example defense is not directly related to Catcher ERA. A guy who is a 100 catcher will not always have a better CERA than a guy who plays 50 defense. But there are so many factors to take into account… The defense behind the pitcher, the type of pitcher himself, the ballpark he plays in,… I don’t know if I have seen a study where someone removes all the variables except catcher D.

I guess to summarize: I would like to think that catcher defense is very important, but I don’t really know. And unlike hitting, it seems very difficult to quantify.
