Wednesday, October 28, 2065 LITTRELL EDGES SALEM AND EVANS FOR PRO CUP MVP This year's IPA Pro Cup champion Southport Sun Sox was truly a team effort, but there were several key players who came through at critical times to insure victory... in a hotly-contested vote the 2065 Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Most Valuable Player Award went to Southport's sensational star hurler, Roman Littrell... the 28-year-old right-hander edged out teammates Eddie Salem and Junior Evans, who both had strong postseason playoffs. Roman Littrell made 6 postseason starts and posted a 4-1 record with an excellent 2.68 ERA... Littrell solidified the award with two crucial victories over the Colfax Black Sox in the Pro Cup Finals... he beat them 3-2 in the opening game of the series and then finished them off 4-2 in game five... Littrell also copped two wins over the Hartsdale Hellcats 3-2 in the opener and 7-2 in the game-five clincher in the first round... Littrell's only playoff defeat was at the hands of the powerful Rolling Hills Racers in the Tycobbian title series... they whipped him 6-3 in game five... he got a no-decision in the first game of that series, won by the Sun Sox 6-3 in 11 innings... Littrell also excelled in the regular season with an 18-7 record and a superb 2.11 ERA, second-best in the league... a 6-year veteran, he is 89-51 overall with a fine 2.67 ERA. Coming in a very close second in the MVP voting was Southport's other talented twirler, Eddie Salem... in 4 playoffs starts Salem was 3-0 with a terrific 1.25 ERA... he won game two of the Colfax series with a fine 4-0 shutout win... Salem's other two victories were over Pro Cup favorite Rolling Hills in second-round action... he toppled the hard-hitting Racers 3-2 and 7-2 and was an important part of knocking them out of the playoffs... Salem was 17-5 this past season with a 2.77 ERA... he came to Southport in a trade with North Hills in July... Salem has played 9 years in the IPA with a 120-74 mark and a 3.39 ERA... Southport traded for him especially for postseason playoff purposes... and the deal paid off handsomely in a Pro Cup trophy. Shortstop Junior Evans, one of the sons of Southport skipper Lorne Evans, ran a good race for the MVP honor and wound up third in the tight balloting... in 17 playoff games Evans batted .314 with 5 doubles, 2 homers, 10 RBIs, 19 runs and 4 stolen bases... in his fourth season Evans batted a career-best .295 with 18 homers and 93 RBIs... lifetime he is a .274 hitter. Thursday, October 29, 2065 IPA BEST SWINGERS ARE JOSEPHSON AND SUTTON It's time to pick the best and the brightest stars of the Islandian Pro Alliance... the 2065 IPA Golden Bat Awards were given out and they went to Colfax's splendid first baseman Bralen Josephson and Rolling Hills' standout center fielder Hugo Sutton... it's the first time Josephson has taken the honor and the second time Sutton has been a winner... Sutton was also the Tycobbian Union Golden Bat in 2063. Bralen Josephson was acclaimed the 2065 Ruthlandian Union Golden Bat of the Year... he led the Colfax Black Sox to the pennant in the RU West Division by batting .364, finishing third in batting average... in a colossal season Josephson collected a league-leading 229 hits, played 154 games with 42 doubles, 1 triple, 33 homers, 110 RBIs and 110 runs... Josephson beat out his Colfax teammate Lanny Waldrep for this year top batter trophy... Waldrep hit .336 this season in 154 games, winding up with 186 hits, 39 doubles, 1 triple and 40 home runs... the 27-year-old right fielder topped the RU in scoring runs, came in second in homers and runs batted in... Waldrep won the RU Golden Bat in 2059. At age 32 and in his 11th year with the Wynnamac Sundowners, Snooky Bartels sparked his club to another RU East crown... they have won the division flag 5 times in his tenure with one Pro Cup, won in his rookie season in 2055... this year the talented right fielder led the entire IPA and the Ruthlandian Union with a marvelous .383 BA... Bartels' .346 lifetime batting average is second overall in IPA history, topped only by Jet Kazmarek's .350 career average... this season Bartels participated in 142 games and finished second with 206 hits, socked 34 two-baggers, 2 triples, 30 roundtrippers, drove in 110 runs and scored 107 times. Friday, October 30, 2065 IPA PEERLESS PITCHERS FOR 2065 The old adage says, "Good pitching beats good batting"... most of us tend to accept this... if so, the Golden Arm Awards just might be right up there in statue with the Most Valuable Player Awards... the top pitchers in the Islandian Pro Alliance for 2065 are Claxton's Mark Meisner and Southport's Roman Littrell... they were without peers this year... Meisner copped the Ruthlandian Union Golden Arm Award and Littrell was presented the Tycobbian Union Golden Arm Award... Meisner had to beat out two fine hurlers, Tiger Snodgrass of the Sligo Rovers and rookie Lanny Terris of the Waleska Westerners... while Littrell bested Donnelle Galbreath of the Red Bluff Red Sox and Roland Daye of the Arroyo Grande Suns. TRIO ACCLAIMED TOP TWIRLERS IN RUTHLANDIAN UNION IN 2065 Claxton's Mark Meisner had a terrific season this year with a 20-7 record and a strong 2.34 ERA... in his ninth season Meisner sparked the Diamonds to their third consecutive Ruthlandian North pennant... the 29-year-old southpaw now in his 9th season with Claxton has led them to the 2064 Pro Cup title and as far as the Ruthlandian Union title series in '63 and this year... this was the first time that Meisner was honored as the RU Golden Arm... last year he came in third in the balloting... for his first six seasons he stood out as a fine closer, but Meisner switched to the starting rotation and continued to prosper... he is 67-39 as far as wins and losses with a remarkable 2.25 ERA in his career. Sligo's pitching star Tiger Snodgrass came in second in the RU Golden Arm voting... at age 32 Snodgrass has spent 14 years on the mound for the Rovers, going back-and-forth from the bullpen to the starting rotation... overall in right-hander's career he is 150-100 with 185 saves and an impressive 2.93 ERA... this season Snodgrass stood out with 17 wins and only 4 losses and an extraordinary 1.99 ERA... he also chalked up appearances in 49 games with 22 starts and 12 saves... Snodgrass posted the best ERA in the Ruthlandian Union and the second-best ERA in the Islandian Pro Alliance, topped only by Donnelle Galbreath's 1.80 ERA for the Red Bluff Red Sox in the Tycobbian Union... Snodgrass was a prime reason Sligo came in second this year, just 7 games out of first place behind the Colfax Black Sox... in his tenure with the Rovers, Snodgrass has led the club 10 second-place finishes and 3 pennants... only in his first season did Sligo perform poorly with a sixth-place finish... the team and Snodgrass have been terrific together. Another right-hander Lanny Terris made his debut this year for the Waleska Westerners at the age of 26... in his rookie season he helped the Westerners to a third-place finish in the Ruthlandian South pennant race, 8 games in back of Meisner and the first place Claxton Diamonds... Terris made 28 starts and chalked up a fine 15-5 mark with a very strong 2.13 ERA, which was fourth best in the IPA and second in the Ruthlandian Union. TYCOBBIAN UNION TOP PITCHER WINS BACK-TO-BACK GOLDEN ARM TROPHIES For the second consecutive season Southport's superstar starter Roman Littrell has been named the Tycobbian Union Golden Arm Award recipient... he is 26 years of age, a 6-year veteran... since joining the Sun Sox, Littrell has never finished worst than fourth place in the standings and has sparked Southport to two TU South pennants and the 2065 Pro Cup title with 89 victories and 51 losses in his career, while compiling a fine 2.67 ERA... Littrell had a marvelous season this year, posting an 18-7 record with a 2.11 ERA, which was the third-best ERA in the IPA and second-best in the Tycobbian Union.... Littrell made 33 starts this season and 29 of them were quality starts... he was number two in the IPA with 4 shutouts... Scotty McElroy of the Hillsboro Blazers topped the IPA with 5 shutouts. The runner-up to Littrell was the Islandian Pro Alliance's ERA leader Donnelle Galbreath of the Red Bluff Red Sox, who registered a super low 1.80 ERA... his Red Sox ended up a distant third in the TU East, 13 games behind pennant-winning Tuckanarra... Galbreath finished the season with a 16-8 mark in 31 starting assignments -- 28 of them were quality starts... the 12-year veteran was the Red Sox's main man in the bullpen for his first 6 seasons... for the last seven years he has been a full-time starter and hasn't missed a single start in all of those years... at age 31 lifetime Galbreath is 114-87 with 121 saves and an excellent 2.55 ERA. Third place in the TU Golden Arm balloting went to Roland Daye of the Arroyo Grande Suns... Daye has excelled in all of his three years with the Suns, a notorious bandbox to pitch in... yet Daye is 43-29 with a 2.84 overall ERA... he has done well in spite of winding up near the bottom of the TU South in 7th place all three seasons... Daye may be the best pitcher in the IPA... this year the 25-year-old right-hander was superb with a 17-7 record and a 2.28 ERA... keep in mind, the Suns were 69-85 for the season. Saturday, October 31, 2065 RUTHLANDIAN ROOKIE HURLER TERRIS RULES THE ROOST In recent years it has gotten tougher and tougher for rookies to make rosters in the Islandian Pro Alliance... teams are very much dominated by veterans... Are the current players that good or are the newcomers lacking in talent?... no one seems to have an answer... this year only one position player in the entire IPA had enough at bats to qualify for the batting title... however, pitchers are having a little more opportunity to make the teams... this season there may have been as many as 10 rookie hurlers who made the starting rotations among the 64 teams... but the Islands' sportswriters and broadcasters did manage to come up with worthy rookies to honor... the 2065 Ruthlandian Union Rookie of the Year is Waleska's gifted right-hander Lanny Terris... and the 2065 Tycobbian Union Rookie of the Year is Turon's talented right fielder Maury McGuillen. This year's best newcomer, Waleska's Lanny Terris, is a worthy rookie of the year... he also came in third in the prestigious Ruthlandian Golden Arm poll... the 26-year-old pitcher compiled a 15-5 mark with a standout 2.13 ERA, second best in the Ruthlandian Union... Terris paced the Westerners to a fine third-place finish in the RU South this year. Another right-handed twirler, 22-year-old Jay Jay Earnshaw of the Sligo Rovers, had a super freshman season, too, winding up with an impressive 18-9 record and a strong 2.53 ERA... the slender 6'8" Earnshaw came in second in the top Ruthlandian rookie voting... he was an important part of the Rovers second-place finish in the RU West pennant race. And yes, there was one pretty fair rookie hitter in the Ruthlandian Union... 21-year-old right fielder Valentino Robles of the Volusia Vigilantes... he only played in 104 games, but batted at a .334 clip with 25 doubles, 1 triple and 17 home runs... Robles scored 69 runs and drove in 68... he did not qualify for the batting title... no enough at bats. TURON SPEEDSTER MCQUILLEN TOP TYCOBBIAN NEWCOMER The only rookie batter to qualify for batting awards was Maury McQuillen of the Turon Typhoons... for his efforts McQuillen is this year's Tycobbian Union Rookie of the Year... he is an old rookie, but at age 30, McQuillen is very well experienced... when he finally got his chance in the IPA, the right-fielder batted .295 in 143 games, socked 178 hits, 27 doubles, 15 triples, 1 home run, batted in 36 runs, scored 85 times and stole 48 bases... McQuillen led the Tycobbian Union in thefts and wound up second in triples... he was also a fine defender... Turon came in fourth in the TU South this year. Successful rookie pitchers were few and far between in the Tycobbian Union... all of the top newcomers were position players... the runner-up in the 2065 TU Rookie of the Year Award balloting was Kenwood's first sacker Miguel Blanco... he only got 64 starts, but was productive when he got into the Wildcat lineup... debuting at age 23, Blanco batted .302 with 18 homers, 57 RBIs and scored 48 runs. Coming third in the top newcomer voting in the Tycobbian Union was Hartsdale right-fielder Grant Sherlock... in 70 games at age 26, Sherlock hit .283 with 21 two-baggers, 11 homers, 48 ribbies and scored 41 runs... he was a solid help in the Hellcats winning the TU North this season. Sunday, November 1, 2065 IPA TOP GLOVEMEN FOR 2065 "Hit 'em where they ain't" is a great hitting philosopy, but it doesn't always work when a fielder can seemingly come out of nowhere to make the play... the Islandian Pro Alliance has just put these defensive magicians on center stage along with the great hitters and great pitchers... here are the 2065 Ruthlandian Union Golden Glove and 2065 Tycobbian Union Golden Glove Teams. Please notice that my good friend, CD, made the Hillsboro Blazers jersey for me... (see Boogie Boyd photo)... he really did a fine job... really like the lines on the cap with the letter "H"... indicates speed as in "swift runners"... very nice touch, CD.
Thanks to Isedelyod for the new Far Mountain Red Hawks jersey. Be on the lookout for new graphics for some of the teams...a few will also get a new nickname... that's coming in the 2066 IPA season. |
A very special thanks to knuckler, who did 60% of all jerseys, caps and logos for the Islandian Pro Alliance... he may have done more than that.
I really miss seeing knuckler on the Forums... hope he is well. |

Monday, November 2, 2065 IPA PICKS PRIME PRIZES FOR RUTHLANDIAN AND TYCOBBIAN UNIONS All across the Islands votes have been collected, tabulated and counted and the most valuable players in the Ruthlandian Union and the Tycobbian Union have been honored by the Island Pro Alliance... and here are the results: the 2065 Ruthlandian Union Most Valuable Player is the marvelous first baseman Bralen Josephson of the Colfax Black Sox and the 2065 Tycobbian Union Most Valuable Player is the peerless pitcher Roman Littrell of the Southport Sun Sox... according to all of the Islands' baseball experts they were the prime players in each of the two leagues... this was a special week for both superstars... last week Josephson was acclaimed the Ruthlandian Golden Bat trophy and Littrell garnered the Tycobbian Golden Arm trophy. JOSEPHSON EDGES COLFAX TEAMMATE WALDREP IN RU MVP RACE This year's Ruthlandian MVP Bralen Josephson beat out some talented ballplayers in Lanny Waldrep, his teammate with the Black Sox, and Claxton's splendid hurler, Mark Meisner... the 26-year-old Josephson had the third-best batting average in the RU... in 154 games he hit .364 and led the league and the entire IPA with 229 hits, including 42 doubles, 1 triple, 33 roundtrippers, 110 RBIs and 110 runs scored... it is the second time in three seasons Josephson had paced the RU in base hits... now in his 9th season, he has batted a lofty .344 in his career... Josephson is ranked fifth all-time in lifetime batting average... the top all-time IPA batsman is Jet Kazmarek with a .350 career average... Josephson had a superlative season and sparked Colfax to the Ruthlandian West pennant this year... this was the second time in three seasons the Black Sox have been victorious, Winding up second the MVP balloting, his teammate, Lanny Waldrep, also had a big hand in the Black Sox's very successful season, too... the slugging right fielder cracked a .336 BA in 154 games with 186 hits, 39 two-baggers, 1 triple, 40 homers, 118 RBIs, 120 runs and six stolen bases... Waldrep was the RU leader with 120 runs and 127 walks... and finished second with 40 home runs and 118 runs batted in. Third place in the MVP voting went to Claxton's standout pitcher Mark Meisner... in a colossal season the 29-year-old right-hander copped the Ruthlandian Golden Arm Award with a sparkling 20-7 record and an impressive 2.34 ERA... Meisner has the most victories in the RU this season... his Claxton Diamonds won the RU South Division for the third year in a row. SUN SOX STAR LITTRELL OUTSHINES TWO RACERS SUTTON AND ROUBIQUE IN TU MVP POLL Two-time Tycobbian Union Golden Arm honoree Roman Littrell of the Southport Sun Sox added another laurel to his already glowing IPA resume... Littrell is this year's 2065 Tycobbian Union Most Valuable Player... the 26-year-old right-handed hurler outpolled two Rolling Hills stars for this year's revered trophy, symbolic of the best player in the Tycobbian Union... center fielder Hugo Sutton and left fielder Jean-Luc Roubique came in a very close second and third in the this year's polling. Not only did this year's TU Most Valuable Player Roman Littrell lead his Southport Sun Sox to the Tycobbian South title, but they also went all the way in the playoffs and captured this year's IPA Pro Cup... and to finish off his glorious season Littrell was named the Pro Cup Most Valuable Player... Littrell excelled with a 20-7 record in 33 starts... he hurled 4 shutouts and put up a sparkling 2.11 ERA... Littrell topped the TU in victories and innings pitched and came in second in ERA... overall in his fine career he has compiled an 89-51 mark and a 2.67 ERA... Littrell has claimed the TU Golden Arm for the last two years in a row and has combined for a 37-11 record the last two seasons... he is just getting better as the years go by... Littrell has paced the Sun Sox to two pennants in the last four years. The Rolling Hills Racers have won 6 consecutive Tycobbian West Division flags, together with a pair of Pro Cups in 2060 and 2062 and almost won it in 2064... much of the credit for the team's success in the past few years would have to go to Racer outfielders, Hugo Sutton and Jean-Luc Roubique... Sutton is this year's runner-up for the MVP award... at 25, he batted .334 in 152 games, collected 204 hits, 31 doubles, 10 triples, 30 home runs, 114 RBIs and scored 122 runs, while stealing 24 bases...
