Hey, I remember these guys!
|
As amateur mathematicians everywhere know, Pi shows up in the most random places. In case of the Mets, this is also true for Pi-azza: The Mets' bullpen has blown a potential deGrom win 31 times in his career. *
Without an ill-willed word and very calmly I will now assume my usual "Grrr, Mets!!" position. (goes to his knees and firmly applies his jaws around the plate of the desk) Hey, bright sides - at least deGrom worked as advertised! Oh, yes, before I forget... **** the DH. :woohoo: I see Matzie (:crying:) had 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball and a W (glares at Mets) in his Bluebirds debut. And now we're already missing Matzie! *Yes, I am weird. Are you new here? |

Yes, the Mets got up-ended in their season opener.
Attachment 768524 The DH is your pet-peeve? Mine is this goshdarned babying of pitchers. Yesterday was yet another example: Attachment 768525 DeGrom is sailing along, 6 innings, 3 hits, no runs, and ONLY 77 PITCHES. But they take him out because he hasn't pitched in 10 days. Shouldn't that mean he's more than fully rested? Managers all across baseball have taken the easy way out. Rather than letting an ace finish what he has started - sure it could backfire, but only 77 pitches? - they take him out in favor of a couple of nobodies who proceed to throw away the game. How many wins would deGrom have by now if this did not keep happening to him? Don't care what the theorists will say. The simple fact is, you go with the hot hand in any sport. Sure, we downplay "W's" for pitchers these days. The other fact is, Rojas' over- / mismanagement cost the Mets a "W." |
I didn't see the game, I can't say anything about what they did or didn't do ... except for having a meltdown. I had a hunch though that they wouldn't send the guys out for 110 pitches this time through given the extra three days' layoff thanks to the stupid Gnats.
The DH is a universally horrendous concept that needs to be fought with pitchforks wherever it rears one or more of its seven ugly heads. :p |

In his postgame he talked about the problem of getting/staying ready with the uncertainty about the schedule early on (which I took to mean they were operating for a while with the assumption that the 3rd game with the Barves was going to happen even though the others were cancelled). So, it's not that he was "rested" or not, it's whether or not he was ready for Opening Day to occur on April 5. Which is obviously a problem when it moves from April 1 to 2 to 4 beforehand. |
Yeah, it makes me appreciate the simplicity of OOTP more. When did Guy last start? Five days ago? Great. Six days? Great. Nine? Just as great!
Actual humans are just so complicated :p |
The trouble with all of this reasoning is that the guy was dominating the game, regardless of when he started last, and they took him out in favor of oafs.

That's what I worry about (well, think about) when they talk about a wild card round in the playoffs of 3+ days. Obviously there are times people are banged up and can use the rest, but most of the time there's going to be some rust setting in somewhere. |
Metsies win!
That division looks abominable, though. 1-0 Gnats 4-1 Phillies 1-1 Mets 1-4 Marlins 0-4 Barves All the Gnats' fault. |
Not a Mets fan, but had MLB Big Inning on when Nimmo made the running catch to stop a Phillies rally. The grin on his face was priceless!

I also saw that the Mets seem to have a weak bullpen, if these two games are an indication. It's early yet, but two poor performances in a row. If it was not for Alonso's homer late in the game, those guys may have been on their way to blowing another one. |

That's pretty much his constant state! He's fun to watch, I wish he were a little better in CF but am glad he's getting playing time instead of platooning or something (assuming he isn't with Pillar, of course). |
I hate to say it but it looks like Dellin Betances had had his fun in the sun. Early flameout.

Tigers are off today so I’m going to join you guys here. Game is on mlb network and you can tell (in my opinion) that missing the opening series of the year because of COVID has them just a touch behind everyone else. I think they will get there though and be a tough out in the East.

0-for-millions with RISP.
You Tigers gonna rent us out Baddoo for a few days? |

Ah, everybody's favorite - Boom-Boom Diaz. I put my dosh on two bombs surrendered in the inning. That's why he's called Boom-Boom. One boom. Two booms.
