Gerry Shea 1905 ID HELP

1 Attachment(s)
I just got a message from Bill Hickman indicating that the Gerry Shea image I posted earlier (the same image currently included in the photo pack, and shown again in its entirety below) may or may not be the Cardinals catcher.

I previously had the Shea image listed in my collection as "likely" Gerry Shea based on the year of issue of the tobacco card that the image came from (1909-11 Obak T212) and the fact that the image showed the player wearing a catcher's mitt--I don't have solid ID evidence, but assumed that two catching Sheas from the same time period was unlikely. I then "verified" my ID when I saw the same image included in the photo pack as Gerry Shea.

Could anyone here provide a definitive ID for the T212 Seattle Shea? If not, he should go back on the missing list.

Thanks...

There are 2 Shea's that I can find in the 1906 Spalding Guide - Both are catchers. The larger picture here is from Image 158 of the Newark team and the smaller image is cropped from the San Francisco team photo found on Image 314. Which one is is Gerry Shea, if either, I have no clue...

The guy to the left looks like the image in the facepack for Nap Shea also a catcher. The same guy is also depicted in the St. Louis Encyclopedia (I understand wrongly) as Gerry Shea. The guy on the right looks the same player that is shown on the Obak card as a Seattle player, is his first name Gerry, I don't know. There is a web site that lists major league players who appeared on Obak cards, Gerry Shea is not listed (maybe the list isn't comprehensive).

SABR minor league Database has the players name as Danny Shea.... did not play in the majors

That's an awesome link on the minor league rosters, twil. I assume that the pictures in the Spalding 1906 Guide are the 1905 teams. If that's the case, then the San Francisco player is catcher Dennis Shea.

I was unaware of the database for minor leaguers on SABR. Thanks again twil...

Thank you for the ID. I've got to get better acquainted with the minor league db. Lots of great info there.

I've moved the Shea images to my minor league collection and removed Gerry from my "found" list. This just goes to show how wrong I was to assume--I thought there wasn't likely to be more than one catching Shea during an era and there turned out to be three!

I'd like to echo the above comments. I had suspected that the image posted above was of Tug Wilson. That link confirmed it.
