2298 Week 1 - The Week in Review

Analysis
Another year, and already Oberland appears to be the top team in the CBO. The T-51s are currently the only undefeated team, dropping University Point in two, Warwick in two, and one so far against Atom. Not only that, but the T-51s have allowed a grand total of seven runs in five games, a full 10 runs better than the next best team in University Point. Already the T-51s are leading almost all pitching categories, and also have the league's best batting average and on-base percentage. They have not converted all of those baserunners into runs, but if they do, look out! Can we test Jamaica Plain's Mike Van Noord for chems or synth replacement? In his first two seasons, he averaged .289. This season, he took a leave before the official start of the season for unknown reasons. Now he has come back and leads the CBO so far in batting average with a .615 clip. Sure, there is a lot more baseball to play but he is suspicious! The Egret Ninjas may have changed their mascot, but they have not changed their losing ways. Star player Paladin Danse is off to a cold start, batting just .158 in the first five games. Should Egret continue losing, it may be in their best interest to trade Danse to a contender to secure a few more prospects. This team is probably a few years away from contending, so getting a future security blanket could be what they need. Forget 2298, and prepare for 2300. In the North Charles Association, County Crossing and Easy Town have been hot so far, winning 4 of their first 5. Easy Town has benefited from heavy hitting in the middle of the lineup with Sean Samuels (.579), Jarrett Metalbox (.571), and Dan Squirrel (.476) helping produce lots of runs. The Assualtrons are tied for 2nd in the NCA with 30 runs scored. The Bloodbugs are getting help from their offense, too, leading the NCA in runs scored (32) and having the best bullpen (3.00 ERA) thus far. Six of the Bloodbugs' hitters are batting over .300. Defending Institute League champion Lexington has been the biggest early surprise with their slow 1-4 start. Pete Pembroke has now lost both of this starts, and only two players are hitting above .300. One of those two is Tyler Ross, who leads the team in just about every offensive category, mostly because he is the only person producing. The Synths are 11th in runs scored (21) and 11th in runs against (31). They will need to flip those numbers to get back in the mix. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 11 April 2298 - North Charles Association's Best Batter Announced Peter Tatoeater has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 20-year-old third baseman of the Finch Farm Four Leafs had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Tatoeater batted .563 with 9 hits in 16 at-bats, 3 home runs and 4 RBIs. 11 April 2298 - SCA's #1 Player Named His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Wayne Lacy was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The scrappy Diamond City Swatters right fielder hit .500 while collecting 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. 11 April 2298 - Radwater Goes Distance in 8-1 Win University Point Deathclaws pitcher William Radwater whisked his team past the FHE Yao Guai, 8-1. With their winning streak at 4, the Deathclaws have raced to a strong start this season. Radwater, the winner, is now 1-1. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 5 hits, while collecting 9 Ks. He essentially shut down the FHE offense. "I really like what we did out there today," Radwater said after the game. 11 April 2298 - Party Boys Rocked By Chemists, 10-2 The 10-2 Sunshine Tidings win over Nordhagen Beach was due largely to Brightsun Ramos. The Chemists right fielder was 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Nordhagen Beach falls to 3-3. With Sunshine Tidings leading 4-2 in the top of the sixth, Ramos hit a 2-run single off Nordhagen Beach hurler Derek Gist. It was the 12th hit of the season for Ramos and put his team ahead, 6-2. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Ramos said. 11 April 2298 - Dominant Performance by Mustang in Vault 81 Win Vault 81 right-hander Josh Mustang pitched his team to victory over the Quincy Gunners at The Stone House. The final score was 3-1. The loss has the Gunners at 3-3. Mustang overpowered the Gunners. The Vault 81 right-hander allowed 5 hits over 8 innings, while recording 11 punchouts. With the win, he is 1-1 on the season. Dwellers manager Jason Personhood raved about Mustang after the game. "I thought Josh was 'lights out.'" 11 April 2298 - Langer goes 4-for-5, Silver Shroud Move to 4-2 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud downed the Salem Witch Hats, 12-7, at Vim! Park of Salem. Safety Langer led the way, going 4-for-5 for Fort Hagen. Derek Green, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Salem to 3 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Fort Hagen, with the win, is 4-2. Seth Dungan hit a bases-clearing triple off Mike Cartrette in the top of the fourth, which put the Silver Shroud in front, 4-1. Dungan had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5. "I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Dungan. |
I was reasonably content with the start of the Party Boys' campaign, until that last result. It's good to see Fogcrawler and "fan favourite" Tomas Jones showing up early. Also pleased with the first outings of Beach and Diehl. In fact for me the most pleasing part of the Pre-season Predictions was the high ratings given to the Boys' pitching staff- which, as we know, hasn't been a real strength so far in the CBO's history.

Chet Arthur is off to the most miserable of starts, 0-2, 10.80 ERA, in his first season as a starter. Why is he pitching above Shed and Diehl in the rotation?!? Sia Abber blew save opportunity, resulting in a loss in Shed's only start so far, so now he has been demoted to set up while Night Demon Archaki is jumping into the closer's role. When I leave this pitching rotation up to Craig Robinson and pitching coach Trevor Bayless, they seem to do screwy things. I almost want to take them over! But I won't. I am just the moderator of these affairs! Last year, the BIG change in success was the pitching staff, especially the bullpen, stepping up their game in the second half of the season. In Week 1, the Party Boys are dead last (7.31) in bullpen ERA. Other than Arthur's poor pitching (hello bullpen 2297), the starters are 4th in ERA (4.10). |

I wanted to rush through the first week to see how things looked in the data available to me. I may go back and edit in scores of all games. Anyway, starting now, I am going to include scoreboards with all scores so that I can see what teams are doing each day. It is convenient now that I do not need to go to four different pages to see it.
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507 Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 12 April 2298 - Turnpike Furloughed Boston Common Lead Bellies (University Point) rookie 3B Spratt Turnpike admitted to coaches that he lost his focus after being drafted and had not been doing the work coaches requested for him to see the playing field. Today, Lead Bellies manager Puddin Greenwall announced that Turnpike would be sitting out the 2298 season. "We asked certain things of all our players before the season began," Greenwall said without giving the specifics of those "things." "Mr. Turnpike decided that he did not have time for working on baseball but for whatever he decided was more important. "I spoke with [GM] Nate [Fumble] and Woody [Lumpkin, manager of University Point] and they agreed we would send Mr. Turnpike home to see how he comes back in 2299. He won't be with the team at all in the 2298 calendar year." 13 April 2298 - Concord Draws Blanks Against Dude Finch Farm Four Leafs fans were pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard as Josh Dude blanked the Concord Radstags, 7-0 at Finch Family Park today. Dude stopped them on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 10. "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite," Four Leafs skipper Wiley Boat said. "He was on top of his game in this one." 13 April 2298 - Big Day with Bat: Schoolboy 5-for-6 Jeremy Schoolboy exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Coolest Field in Town. The Atom left fielder had a field day in the 16-6 triumph over the FHE Yao Guai, finishing 5-for-6. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Schoolboy must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Jeremy Schoolboy hit a two-run home run off Sage Monticello in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. In 7 games this season Schoolboy has batted at a .438 pace with 14 hits and 2 home runs. 13 April 2298 - Alone Gets 5 Hits Travis Alone of the Cats was unstoppable in today's 16-6 victory over the FHE Yao Guai at Coolest Field in Town. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. "Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Atom right fielder after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-for-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-for-5 will." Travis Alone singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th. This year Alone is batting .457 with 16 hits, 1 home run, 4 RBIs, 1 walk, .472 OBP and has scored 7 runs. 13 April 2298 - Party Boys Edge Synths, 3-2 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the Lexington Synths, 3-2, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nordhagen Beach third baseman Tommy Talkington had a superb performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Julian Shed was the winner. Over 8 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Nordhagen Beach goes to 4-3. Talkington contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Nordhagen Beach in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Talkington took a changeup from Lawdog Whipple and stroked the home run to left. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Party Boys to leap in front, 3-1. "We squandered some opportunities," said Lexington manager Sprole Races. 13 April 2298 - Bloodbugs Rocked By Silver Shroud, 12-2 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud powered past the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 12-2, at Beantown Brewery Stadium. Jim Tiller went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3, to lead the charge. The win puts Fort Hagen at 5-2. Ben Pawlak, the top prospect , had a direct impact on the outcome. Pawlak contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Fort Hagen up, 3-0. "Nice win," said Tiller. "Not sure what else you want me to say." 13 April 2298 - Scoreboards |
A bit late, but those banners look great. Some interesting predictions from PAM, as always. Granted, anything can, and does happen in a young league, but sometimes the pre-season predictions seem more like wishful thinking for some good storylines/PAMs a fanfiction writer than what is actually likely to occur. Reminds me of the theory that PAM actually caused the war because nobody took her predictions seriously, heh. (The thing that stood out to me, other than both the Party Boys and Fort Hagen doing well, is how far the Ladykillers have fallen).
Also quite fitting the opening series was the Party Boys vs the Silver Shroud! |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 14 April 2298 - T-51s Rally to Stay Undefeated The Oberland T-51s extended their winning streak thanks to a 4-run 9th inning. A good performance from catcher Jim Pickman helped the Oberland T-51s defeat the Quincy Gunners, 6-5. Pickman was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the T-51s. Quincy falls to 3-5. Oberland used the timely hitting of Prof Castillo to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the T-51s on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was the game-winner. "It feels good, just a great win all around," Castillo said after the game. With Oberland trailing 5-2, Jonathan Abern opened the T-51s 9th with a triple off reliever Wick Prater. With one out, Chris Milteer singled in Abern. Dustin Shotgun then doubled to put the tying run at second base. After a Bloatfly Williams flyout led Oberland to its final out, Jeremy Bugs came through with a two-RBI single to tie the game, 5-5. B.J. Perez then singled and both runners advanced on Andrew Nuka's misplaying of the ball in left field. Castillo then came through with an RBI infield single to give the T-51s the go-ahead score. 14 April 2298 - Greenzone, Kowalski Slug Adamantium to 9-6 Win Abernathy and Salem duked it out and the Adamantium came out victorious. The Abernathy Adamantium beat the Salem Witch Hats, 9-6, at Vim! Park of Salem. Donny Kowalski, in particular, was impressive. He belted 2 home runs and walked 3 times, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Po Greenzone was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, 3 runs scored, and 5 batted in. Abernathy goes to 4-4. Abernathy needed the clutch hitting of Greenzone to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Adamantium on top, 9-6. "My greenzone is my hit zone," said Greenzone. "Throw it in my greenzone, see ball fly." 14 April 2298 - Assman Rips 2 Home Runs in 12-5 Hancocks Triumph The Goodneighbor Hancocks downed the Vault 81 Dwellers, 12-5. The hitting star was first baseman Bryan Assman. Assman hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 6 for the Hancocks. The win has Goodneighbor at 6-2. Zachary Utsinger helped out the Goodneighbor cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring triple. For the game, the left fielder was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. "You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. 14 April 2298 - Langer Tags Bloodbugs for 5 Hits Safety Langer was the King of Swing today at Beantown Brewery Stadium today in the 9-4 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud win over the County Crossing Bloodbugs. The Fort Hagen left fielder stepped into the batter's box 5 times against the County Crossing and delivered 5 hits. It was a sensational game for him. "Unbelievable feeling," he told the press. "It felt good. 5-for-5 isn't bad for your batting average either." Safety Langer singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.ink] Langer is currently batting .467 with 1 home run and 9 RBIs. There was a heated confrontation between the Bloodbugs and Silver Shroud that resulted in ejections and suspensions. 1B Josh Noggin of County Crossing and RP Handsome Frank of Fort Hagen were issued 2-game suspensions by the league office for initiating the on-field disturbance. The melee occurred after Frank allowed a solo home run to Mushy Levy to lead off the bottom of the 9th. He then plunked Noggin on a 2-2 pitch. "He overreacted," Frank said. "I'm not going to hit a guy on purpose when I have two strikes on him. Whatever. When someone charges, I'm defending myself, so I punched that dumb ************ in his ******* mutant lip." This season Noggin has hit at a .273 clip and produced 8 runs batted in, 2 home runs and 7 runs. Frank has nailed down no saves for the year. He has also totaled 5 strikeouts and 7 walks in 6 innings while registering a 13.50 ERA and a 0-0 won-lost record. 14 April 2298 - Party Boys Snatch 4-3 Win The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys picked up a win at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, knocking off the Lexington Synths, 4-3. Starting pitcher Casey Diehl was a big reason why. Diehl went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 1. His record improves to 2-0. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 5-3 after winning four of their last five. In the bottom of the sixth, Nordhagen Beach left fielder Michael Fogcrawler put his team on top. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit his 3rd home run of the year. Lexington pitcher Chris Morgen served it up. Just like that, the Party Boys were ahead, 4-2. "We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow to prepare for the Killers this weekend," Diehl said after the game. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 16 April 2298 - Masterson Helps Nordhagen Beach Cruise to 10-3 Win Nordhagen Beach second baseman Brian Masterson made his presence felt in the 10-3 Party Boys triumph over the Starlight Lady Killers. Masterson went 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. The Party Boys raised their record to 6-3. With Nordhagen Beach leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Masterson hit a circle change from Jonathan Newman for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 6-0. "If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Masterson told the Nordhagen Beach News. CBO RBI leader Michael Fogcrawler also contributed to the win. Fogcrawler was 4 for 5 with a home run, two runs, and three RBI. He now has 18 RBI on the season, leading Dimond City's Wayne Lacy by one in the RBI race. 16 April 2298 - Swatters Top Cats, 5-0, Behind Mannson Diamond City Swatters starter X10-44 Mannson turned in a top-notch performance against the Atom Cats at Coolest Field in Town. The result was a win for the Swatters, 5-0. Diamond City goes to 6-3. Mannson ran roughshod over the Atom lineup. The left-hander allowed just 2 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 8. With the victory, he goes to 2-0 on the season. "We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Mannson. RF Wayne Lacy drove in three for the Swatters, putting him one behind the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys' Michael Fogcrawler for best in the CBO for RBI. 16 April 2298 - Assaultrons Win 8th Straight The Easy Town Assaultrons picked up a win at Easy Town Field, knocking off the Lexington Synths, 3-2. Starting pitcher Angel Waterdrink was a big reason why. Waterdrink, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Lexington falls to 2-7. Had Sean Samuels not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Samuels hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Assaultrons. "I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Easy Town manager Graham Route said. 16 April 2298 - Mass Goes Distance in 7-1 Win The Slog rode a fine outing from starter Edwin Mass to victory over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Tarberry Field Forever. The final score was 7-1. The loss makes Fort Hagen 6-3. Mass allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings for the Ghouls. He walked 0 and struck out 3. "The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Mass. "Successful pitchers do it." |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 17 April 2298 - Dominant Performance by McDuff in Quincy Win The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers went down to defeat to Manny McDuff and his Quincy teammates. The final score was 12-1 in favor of the Gunners. The Knuckle Punchers drop to 3-7 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season. McDuff delivered a quality start for Quincy. The 6' 4" left-hander allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits over 9 innings of work. "It feels good to get this one," McDuff told the Quincy Observer. 17 April 2298 - Dwellers Need Extra Frames to Get Past Red Rockets The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets got a superb performance from center fielder Hid Matsumoto. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Vault 81. The Dwellers won the game, 8-6. Matsumoto was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk. Vault 81 reliever Radscorpion Johnson was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Chad Adamczyk. The save went to Alex Godcomplex, number 1 for him. The most important at-bat for Vault 81 came in the top of the 12th inning. Boston HS, bumping off the Oberland T-51s, 6-4. John Oldsink, who started for Goodneighbor, pitched effectively for his team. Earning his 6th save of the year was Bryan Punchline. The defeat makes Oberland 9-1. Had Jumper Hayes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Hayes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Hancocks. "I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Oldsink. |
2298 Week 2 - The Week in Review

Analysis
Well, that was a quick two weeks to the 2298 season. Despite the expanded schedule, we are two weeks down but almost a tenth of the way through the schedule in the 22-week season. Oberland finally fell, which we suppose is good for the league. They have been in first place in the entire CBO since Day 1, which is still the case with their 9-1 record. We here at Publick Occurrences thought the Minutemen League would humble the T-51s some, but it looks like they may just run over the league. Despite their lack of success against Oberland, the Minutemen League is having a lot of success against the Railroad League. Only Atom is below .500 currently, and that's only because they dropped both games over the weekend to Diamond City, which is the only other Railroad League team with a winning record (7-3). The same can be said of the Brotherhood League, which does not have a dominant interdivision foe to face. The BL has only one team below .500, the County Crossing Bloodbugs, who have dropped five straight after starting off 4-1. Despite their loss yesterday, Easy Town has been the creamed corn of the North Charles Association, racking up 8 wins in their first 9 games before dropping one to Lexington yesterday. Those eight wins came in succession after an opening-day loss to Abernathy. In the Institute League, Fort Hagen has gotten off to a splendid start by going 7-3, followed closely only by the Adamantium. For the first eight games of the season, the Shroud led the CBO in runs scored, though they were surpassed by several teams after scoring only four this weekend in a series split with The Slog. That run production can be attributed to the first seven batters in the lineup batting a minimum of .324 thus far on the season. The Silver Shroud lead the NCA in runs (65), batting average (.342), OBP (.379), OPS (.905), WAR (2.7), and wOBA (.372). They don't hit a lot of home runs, but they do get a lot of hits. The NCA's best pitching team so far has been The Slog. The Ghouls currently lead the NCA in runs allowed (38), Starters ERA (3.16), Defensive Efficiency (.720), and Zone Rating (+10.) and are only second in errors (5), FIP (4.53), and Pitching WAR (1.8). Starers are a combined 6-3, with the worst of the bunch being David Kiwi (1-2, 3.98), who gave up just three runs in yesterday's loss to Fort Hagen. In the SCA, the T-51s are dominating just about every statistical category. They are second in runs scored (70), while far ahead in runs allowed (28). They are 1st in batting average (.348), OBP (.406), OPS (.918), Batting WAR (3.5), wOBA (.378), stolen bases (13), Starters ERA (2.25), and FIP (4.36). They are second in Base Running (+4.3), Bullpen ERA (3.46), Pitching WAR (1.9), Defensive Efficiency (.718), and Zone Rating (+4.1). It is safe to say that Oberland is the definitive favorite to repeat as champions. Easy City Downs betting lines have them at a 68% odds against the rest of the league. Individually speaking, our current leaders in CBO awards for batters, pitchers, and rookies look like this: Batting MVP: 3B Mike Van Noord, Jamaica Plain - .563/.650/1.000, 3 HR, 10 RBI; Runner up: LF Jarrett Metalbox, Warwick - .500/.522/.841, 3 HR, 12 RBI Pitching MVP: SP Josh Dude, Finch Farm - 2-0, 1.06 ERA, 17.0 IP, 12 K; Runner up: SP Tommy Beach, Nordhagen Beach - 3-0, 2.08 ERA, 21.2 IP, 20 K Relief Pitcher MVP: CL Bryan Punchline, Goodneighbor - 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 6/6 save opportunities; Runner up: CL Aaron Still, Oberland - 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4/4 save opportunities Rookie: CF Ben Pawlak, Fort Hagen - .371/.450/.686, 1 HR, 9 RBI; Runner up: SP Joey Dimes, Fort Hagen - 2-1, 3.74 ERA, 21.2 IP, 16 K |

Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kowalski 19 April 2298 – Boston Common On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our sixth trip around the BMU, we will go to the heart of downtown, Boston Common. The Amazing History of the Common According to a terminal entry for the very beginning of Boston Common, "When Puritan colonists purchased the land rights to the Common, the price was 30 pounds, and each homeowner paid six shillings. The pasture then became known as the "Common Land" and was used to graze local livestock until 1830. A town shepherd was paid "two shillings and sixpence per head of cowe" to tend townspeople’s livestock. "The Common was a site for Puritanical punishments, home to a whipping post, pillory, and stocks. Pirates, murderers, and witches were hanged from the tree known as 'The Great Elm,' now gone. Mary Dyer and three other Quakers were also hanged on the Common for their beliefs. A statue of Mary Dyer now stands on the Massachusetts State House lawn. "Also referred to as a 'trayning field,' over 1000 Redcoats made camp on the Common during the British occupation of Boston in 1775. It was from here that three brigades of Redcoats embarked to make the fateful trip to Lexington and Concord." (You can read all about the history at https://www.thefreedomtrail.org/trai.../boston-common). https://www.thefreedomtrail.org/site...?itok=trg5sRbU 2288 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603413264 Nate stumbled across a Downtown Boston torn apart by the war and occupied by raiders, Gunners, super mutants, and ghouls. He remembered an old bar he would sometimes patronize, and he wanted to relive the good times. That bar was the Prost Bar in the Common "where everybody knows your name." Nate knew some of the regulars there, too. He enjoyed chatting with Sam, pretty Diane, sassy Carla, loopy Woody, bossy Rebecca, NORM!, Coach Ernie, the "prof" Frasier, know-it-all Cliff. Yeah, Nate knew their names, and they his. Nate wondered if any of them were doing their thing at the bar when the bombs fell. And when he walked in, he got his answer. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603413264 Cliff and Norm. Friends in life, friends in death There were warning signs, too, around the Common that it was Swan's territory. Now, Nate used to love the Common for the swan ride on the pond. In fact, after one particular ride with Nora, they found a quiet place among the trees. There, Shaun was conceived, as Nora soon found out. Yes, Nate had fond memories of the Common. But who was this Swan he had to beware of? He found out soon enough when a behemoth, using parts of the swan boat as its armor, emerged from the pond. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603413264 Nate fought for his life, freeing the Common of its terrifying monster and laying the foundation for a free zone in Downtown Boston. Eventually, the Brotherhood used the spot as a rendezvous point. Now There has been a lot of work on cleaning up the park and making it a meeting point for Downtown settlers. While the area is not as beautiful as it once was, Nate has determined that future productions of working GECKs would guarantee one in the Boston Common area. Nate also hired an artist to make renditions of what Boston Common will one day look like. Nate calls it "Project 2300." If this ever comes to be, Boston Common will be the envy of the world. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603413277 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603413277 Artist renditions of Boston Common in 2300. It looks so realistic! |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 18 April 2298 - Tykeson Has Historical Day in BMU Game Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters first baseman Lannie Tykeson almost did it all today. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 8 runs and had 5 hits in 5 at-bats. The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Spy Hunters to victory. The Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks escaped with the 15-11 win by the Outpost Zimonja despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Tykeson. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game. Lannie Tykeson hit a three-run home run off Bobby DeLaune in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bobby DeLaune in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Troy Kisspeople in the 9th. "When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Taffington Boathouse manager Tim Haysneedle. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the Commonwealth Association. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good Boston Minor Union hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it." To date this year Tykeson is batting .480 with 3 home runs. "Tykeson was really good, we were just a little better," said Strongbacks manager David Troutman in the postgame interview. "It's all right with me if he gets 5 hits every game against us, as long as we win." 19 April 2298 - Tiller Hits 2 home Runs in Shroud Win in Heavyweight Battle The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud downed the Easy Town Assaultrons, 7-3, at Hubris Comics Park. The Silver Shroud were led by Jim Tiller. He went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Brent Hooker, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held the Assaultrons to 2 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 11 and walking 1. Easy Town falls to 8-3. Tiller had a key at-bat for Fort Hagen early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and gave Fort Hagen an early 2-0 lead. Tiller attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team." 19 April 2298 - Vault 81 Wins, Raygun Has 3 Hit Night The Vault 81 Dwellers topped the Warwick Mirelurks, 13-6, in South Charles Association action at CURIE Inc. Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Vault 81 catcher Ronald Raygun. Vault 81 reliever Nick Radio got the win, raising his record to 1-0. John Diner was tagged with the loss. The Mirelurks drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season. In the first inning, Raygun had a grand slam home run for Vault 81. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Dwellers on top, 6-0. "We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Raygun said. 19 April 2298 - Fogcrawler Slugs Party Boys to 8-1 Win Led by Michael Fogcrawler, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the Concord Radstags, 8-1. Fogcrawler belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Party Boys. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 7-4. With Nordhagen Beach leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Fogcrawler hit a fastball from Phil Cecil for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 5-0. "I just tried to make good contact," said Fogcrawler. 19 April 2298 - T-51s Win 3-2 Walk-Off Oberland picked up a win at Graygarden Park, toppling the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 3-2. Pitcher Matt Udder was one of the reasons the T-51s triumphed. The Red Rockets drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season. Prof Castillo was the walk-off hero for Oberland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the T-51s left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home. Castillo called the win the result of "everyone being in sync." |
I loved the feature on Boston Common! We've not been over to the states very much, but we loved it there and I hope Nate's project comes to fruition and he can recreate some of the Common's former glory.
Also, I'm not sure why, but something attracted me to the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters first baseman - I'll be keeping a closer eye on young Lannie! |

However, he can hit, as he showed in his record-breaking performance. In 2297, he was 35 for 109 in 36 total games played. He hit . 324 with three doubles, a home run, scored 12 runs, and drove in 13. It looks like he has stepped up his power a notch, but this past game was his first to hit any home run. I would say three in a game shows great power potential! According to the scouts, he has plus contact potential that could make him a .350 hitter one day. He will never challenge for the HR crown, but he should hit his share. While he is not the best defensive first baseman, his glove is good enough to set him in the lineup every day. Now if Easy Town's coaches would just let him concentrate on his bat! |
