Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kowalski 3 May 2298 – Natick Banks On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our eighth trip around the BMU, we will go to the west shore of Lake Cochituate, Natick Banks. The Lakeside Horror From a terminal previous to Nate's first exploration of the area: "Natick Banks is a small town that sits along the western edge of Lake Cochituate. The larger part of the town is occupied by super mutants. The northern part, closer to the Roadside Pines motel, is occupied by raiders. Additionally, a deathclaw may appear in the town's center. The eastern part of the town, including the Natick Police Department, has sunken into the lake. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603989454 Natick Banks in 2288 "There is a Red Rocket gas station in the southern part of the town, next to a small house holding terminal entries written by Kim Wu, a pre-War Chinese-American child hiding with her family from being sent to internment camps. A bed can be found in the same room as the terminal. The town's church and graveyard may hold some feral ghouls. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603990136 The Natick Banks Police Department is still hanging over the cliff "To the west of the town is a shipping warehouse with a sprawling trailer yard. Further up the hill, a large electrical substation. There is a large concentration of deathclaws in the area (up to nine) as well as a super mutant behemoth (usually found roaming around the substation) near the western map boundary, often fighting one or more of the deathclaws. Depending on transpired events, Natick Banks is one of the places where the Brotherhood will patrol with a vertibird and knights. The BMU in 2297 to 2298 In 2297, Natick Banks had two of the BMU's 24 teams since the Somerville Place Sentry Bots (known as the Poseidon Reservoir Sentry Bots) also played on the outskirts of the town due to travel problems. This season, the team that played on the 'B' field, which has since been torn down, is now firmly planted in Somerville Place since vehicles can help transport teams to and from areas around the Charles River and to the outskirts of Downtown Boston. Unfortunately, vehicles cannot currently travel in Downtown Boston due to remaining debris. Last season, the affiliate of Diamond City, the Natick Banks Big Leaguers were not the only game in the settlement, so they shared with the Sentry Bots the BMU's lowest attendance numbers. Attendance is not great anyway in the BMU, but now the Big Leaguers have no competition, helping them be one of the more popular games in town. With a 10-4 start to the 2298 season and at first a fast start to the CBO's Swatters, the buzz for the pointing baseballers was growing. A Growth in Peace https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603989454 Natick Banks' favorite hangout spot in Downtown Natick, 2298 Without a doubt, with the removal of raiders, super mutants, and deathclaws, the small settlement is a peaceful, laid back area that has become a favorite vacation spot of Downtowners looking for some peace and quiet. With its two locations for rest, the NB Hotel and the Roadside Pines Motel, Natick Banks is a place where people know they can go for an affordable amount of caps. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603989465 The Roadside Pines Motel - logo The downtown area has been built up, despite the problem with the lakeside. Now, Brotherhood patrols make sure nothing creeps up from the Glowing Sea to the south and west or from the lake. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1603989454 The NB Hotel in Downtown Natick |

Lots of news stories in the inbox today!
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507 Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 3 May 2298 - Diamond City Swatters Ship Prospects to Sunshine Tidings for Fusion The rumor has been out there for a while now and today it was made official. The Diamond City Swatters have sent 21-year-old minor league RHP Rafe Sauce, 19-year-old minor league 3B Danny Jacomet and a 2nd round draft pick to the Sunshine Tidings Chemists for 24-year-old LHP Tim Fusion, 18-year-old minor league 2B Danny Trigger and a 4th round draft pick. This year Fusion has registered 3 wins and 2 losses in 5 starts with a 3.13 ERA while registering 29 strikeouts and 7 walks in 37.1 innings. Fusion will be the second or third starter in Diamond City but could eventually become the team ace over X10-44 Mannson. While the Chemists pick up two talented young prospects, there are rumors that 1st overall pick Oren Gep was on the table. However, Swatters GM Tommy Doddy denied those reports. "I'm not saying he's not on the table," Doddy said. "I'm just saying, we're not giving [Gep] up unless we're getting serious firepower on the mound and at-bat in return. Right now, he's our franchise's future. We'll keep him in Natick Banks where he belongs." Jacomet was originally an undrafted free agent in the 2296 Inaugural Draft. He signed with the Lexington Synths at first but was traded last July in a deal that included CF Jim Uglyhair and sent CF Nasty Byrd and RP Alan Nathy to the Synths. While he is considered an emerging prospect, Jacomet was only batting .231 in 14 games with the Big Leaguers this season. Sauce was selected in the third round of the 2296 Rookie Draft. This season, he appeared in five games for Natick Banks, registering a 0.00 ERA and four saves. He is expected to be a CBO closer one day. 3 May 2298 - Big Leaguers Top Cannibals, 6-1 The first-place Natick Banks Big Leaguers took on the Charles View Cannibals in front of a spirited crowd. The Natick Banks Big Leaguers went home winners at Poseidon Park, thanks in large part to starter Burp Taylor. Taylor stifled the Charles View Cannibals, enabling Natick Banks to grab the 6-1 win. Taylor picked up the win for Natick Banks, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 3-1. Oren Gep hit a grand slam home run off Brian Bridges in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Big Leaguers ahead, 5-1. In addition to the homer, Gep had 1 double, while going 2 for 4. Diamond City had produced a trade earlier in the day that sent 3B Danny Jacomet and CL Rafe Sauce to the Sunshine Chemists franchise. Rumors were that Gep was on the table. He responded in not being traded by showing why he is a future star in the CBO. "It was a tough night at the plate," said Charles View manager Jeff Butt. "For us. That Oren Gep kid did all right, though." At 11-4, the Big Leaguers have played well so far. 3 May 2298 - Hits Galore: Castillo Drills 5 Hits The Salem Witch Hats upended the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Hubris Comics Park today, thanks in large part to center fielder Mike Castillo, who had a smashing day with the bat, racking up 5 hits in 5 at-bats. His big effort helped propel the Witch Hats to a 8-2 victory. Mike Castillo singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. This season Castillo is batting .263 with 25 hits, 5 home runs, 13 RBIs, .293 OBP and has scored 13 runs. The Shroud got a scare when young star Ben Pawlak went down in pain after doubling in the second inning. He was removed from the game for pinch runner Mark Worth, but he is expected to return to the lineup either tomorrow or Friday with a slight abdominal strain. 3 May 2298 - Westing Shuts Out The Slog, 1-0 Brad Westing kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the Abernathy Adamantium were all smiles after winning 1-0 against the The Slog Ghouls at Tarberry Field Forever today. The left-handed Westing gave up no runs in his start, permitted 6 hits and had 6 strikeouts. "If there was a stat for 'team shutout,' this would be it," Westing said later. "My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be." 3 May 2298 - Gunners Whitewashed by Kawolski Sheng Kawolski of the Oberland T-51s blanked Quincy 5-0 on a 3-hit complete-game shutout, striking out 3 batters and walking 3. His record this season is 4-0 in 6 starts and Kawolski has a 1.93 ERA. So far this year Westing has a 5-1 record with a 3.17 ERA. 3 May 2298 - Dwellers Nip Red Rockets, 5-4 The Dwellers grabbed a win, 5-4, at CURIE Inc. Field, overcoming a fine effort from Jamaica Plain pitcher Chris Teddybear. Teddybear went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Radscorpion Johnson in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Steven Rockman took the loss. The win gives Vault 81 a record of 13-8 after winning their ninth straight. The game ended with a bang. In the bottom of the ninth, with Vault 81 trailing 4-2, Knud Bather jumped on a 1-0 fastball from Steven Rockman for a 3-run home run, sending the Dwellers to a walk-off win. "It's great to be on a roll," said Bather. 3 May 2298 - Diamond City Stops Its Losing Streak The Diamond City Swatters beat the Warwick Mirelurks, 6-2, at The Homestead. The win was due in part to third baseman Allen Bishop, who was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The Mirelurks drop to 10-11 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season. Diamond City is now back to its winning ways, something it had not done in nine games. Bishop came through for Diamond City with a run-scoring single in the top of the second. He hit a 2-2 splitter to right field, staking his team to a 2-1 lead. "We played a good game and came out on top," said Bishop. "Finally, we came out on top." 3 May 2298 - Synths Down Party Boys, 4-3 Lexington and Nordhagen Beach put this game in the books despite some radrain. The Lexington Synths did just enough to sneak past the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 4-3, at Super Duper Mart Stadium. Lexington pitcher Pete Pembroke, in particular, had a standout performance despite a no-decision, allowing three earned runs in 9.0 innings. Nordhagen Beach falls to 15-6. The Synths procured the win, in large part because of third baseman Justin Daros. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. "This place went bonkers at the end," Pembroke said. "I tip my cap to Justin." The Synths' biggest hit came in the bottom of the sixth trailing 1-0. There Crooked Tostado took a Tommy Beach pitch yard to give Lexington a 3-1 lead at the time. Nordhagen Beach tied the game with two runs in the top of the eighth on Dustin Mart's two-run home run. |
A fortuitious development, funny how that happens, heh. Also nice settlement overview. I'll also say though while I like the Swatters, the Dwellers aren't bad as well too, that Vault has always been a bright spot on the Commonwealth, so I don't actually mind if they usurp the spot, at least for now, but of course if an interesting horserace between them develops, then that's the best outcome all around.

With that said, I do root for some teams a little more because I like their location in the game. Early game, my go-to places always seem to be Sunshine Tidings Co-op and Starlight Drive-in. As I expand, Egret Tours is my favorite Southwest base of operations, Nordhagen Beach my favorite Northeast place, and in the Southeast, Spectacle Island (which I want to work into this dynasty at some point for baseball!). But I agree with you wholeheartedly about Diamond City. I mean, the CBO HQ is IN the Great Green Jewel. If DC goes five years without making any progress towards the playoffs, then Nate and Moe are going to need to have a long, hard talk. Maybe Moe is just too hard-headed and still has his Swatters, Inc., mentality rather than figuring out the game of baseball. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 4 May 2298 - "May the Fourth Be With You" We do not know what it means, and Nate Howard does not know what it means. However, the commissioner said it because the Mysterious Stranger said it to him one May 4th a few years ago. In his briefing, which included the information in the next story printed below, he said it to the press present. So, May the Fourth Be With You. 4 May 2298 - Taffington Outfielder Gets "Baywatch" Nickname We feel like there is all kinds of past-pop culture happening today. Apparently, there was something great that happened, and Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters left fielder Jeff Fischler is to thank. Last night, following the Spy Hunters' 3-2 victory over the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors, Fischler and teammates were enjoying brews at the Boathouse Bar 'N' Grill when they heard screams coming from the Malden River. There Fischler saw a young girl struggling to swim, so he jumped in, pulling her to shore. This morning, Nate Howard heard of the incident and called Fischler "Baywatch." "He was like a coast life guard," Howard said. "We're very proud of the young man, and I plan to make a special trip to Taffington Boathouse to honor the young man." Fischler was humble about the experience. "I was just doing what I had to," said Fischler. "I'm not a hero, just a person who cares about people." Asked what he thought about the nickname "Baywatch," Fischler said, "I like it. It has a better ring to it than 'Jeff.'" 4 May 2298 - 20 Games in a Row for Abern, T-51s Lose With 1 hit at Graygarden Park today, Jonathan Abern added another game to his hitting streak -- the Oberland second baseman has now hit safely for 20 games in a row. But the hitting feat wasn't enough for the T-51s today, as they fell, 9-5, to the Quincy Gunners. "Frankly, I don't care about hits," Quincy manager Kevin Banner said later. "I'll let him get 1 hit in 1 at-bat if it means we get a win." Jonathan Abern walked in the 2nd and singled in the 4th. Currently Abern is batting .403 with 3 home runs and 16 RBIs. Brian Drinkwater was a big reason Quincy won. The first baseman hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The triumph puts Quincy at 12-10 for the season. The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth when Drinkwater, who is tied for 5th in the SCA in extra-base hits with 14, hit a solo home run. It propelled the Gunners into the lead, 3-2. "We'll savor this win," Drinkwater told the Quincy Observer, "then get ready for the next game." |

"We'll savor this win," Drinkwater told the Quincy Observer, "then get ready for the next game." 4 May 2298 - Multi-HR Day for Robinson as Radstags Overpower Bloodbugs, 10-5 The Concord Radstags beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 10-5, at Nuka Park. The Radstags got a fine performance from first baseman Jason Robinson, who went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Mario Bustos, the winner, goes to 3-3. He allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts over 7.1 innings. Concord is now riding a 3-game win streak. Early in the game, Robinson had a grand slam home run for Concord. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Radstags on top, 6-2. "The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Robinson told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that." 4 May 2298 - Big Day for Danse as Ninjas Down Cats, 9-4 Paladin Danse was a major contributor to the 9-4 Egret win over Atom. The Ninjas left fielder was 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 6. Nick Poppa, the winning pitcher, is now 4-1. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 0. The Ninjas sport a record of 8-14. Danse made an early impact for Egret when he stroked his 4th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which came in the bottom of the second, put the Ninjas on top, 6-0. "We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Danse. 4 May 2298 - Dominant Performance by Arthur in Nordhagen Beach Win Nordhagen Beach took on Lexington in front of a lively crowd. Nordhagen Beach starter Chet Arthur pitched well against the Lexington Synths at Super Duper Mart Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 8-0. The Party Boys have an impressive 16-6 record. Arthur, who dominated for Nordhagen Beach, earned the victory to move to 2-3. He was in control the whole game, scattering 5 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 7. Lexington batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally. "Our guys are never satisfied," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. 4 May 2298 - Shroud Drop Third Straight Salem rode a decent outing from starter Terrence Artman to victory over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. The final score was 4-2. Dan Beantown closed it out for his 6th save. After today's action, Salem sits at 10-12; Fort Hagen slips to 13-9. Salem used the bat of Pistol Schmidt to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Witch Hats ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage. Artman called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem." 4 May 2298 - Fusion Makes Victorious Debut for Swatters In a low-scoring tilt between the Diamond City Swatters and the Warwick Mirelurks, Tim Fusion was the difference-maker. The Diamond City left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Fusion went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0 in SCA action. Josh Samm finished the game for Diamond City and earned his 5th save. Diamond City relied on the hitting of Logan Crawler to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Swatters on top, 2-0. For the game, Crawler had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats. "I felt we were ready to go," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. "Our pregame was pretty good. Our pitching was like a dream come true." Diamond City occupies third place in the South Charles Association Railroad League at 10-12. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 5 May 2298 - BMU Day We at Publick Occurrences do not cover the Boston Minor Union a lot, but today is a special day of honoring the league thanks to one young man's positive influence on the league. Thursdays are always off days for the CBO, so why not take a chance to focus in on the BMU as they complete their fifth week of the season. 5 May 2298 - Howard at Taffington Boathouse Today Nate Howard arrived at Taffington Boathouse today to watch the series finale between the Spy Hunters and C.I.T. Ruins Refractors. The CBO has the day off as a travel day. Howard is there to see the 2:05 PM first pitch and honor Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler for saving a girl from drowning in the Malden River late on Tuesday. The Spy Hunter are the BMU affiliate of Easy Town. Currently, the Spy Hunters are 6-10 and in a tie for fourth place in the Commonwealth Association's Dark Hollow Pond League. They have split the series so far with the Refractors, who are 7-9 and tied for ffith place in the Cambridge League. Taffington Boathouse manager Tim Haysneedle said that he would start Fischler as part of being honored today. 5 May 2298 - C.I.T. Ruins Gets 6-2 Win In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different. The C.I.T. Ruins Refractors picked up a win at Medford Memorial Hospital Field, knocking off the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters, 6-2. Starting pitcher Chris Motley was a big reason why. The 4th-place Refractors sport a record of 8-9. Jake Eater, the 22-year old shortstop, had a direct impact on the outcome. Eater contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put C.I.T. Ruins up, 1-0. "I thought we played a nice game," Eater told BNN. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there." The game was covered by BNN today due to the heroics of Taffington Boathouse outfielder Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler, who saved a girl from drowning near the Boathouse on Tuesday evening. Fischler started in right field and batted 8th in the lineup today. He went 0 for 3 with a walk. His best at-bat came in the 9th inning when he hit a long fly ball to deep left. However, Refractors left fielder Midnight Flowers was able to track it down, preventing Fischler from getting a hit on his big day. 5 May 2298 - Chee Hits 2 home runs in Big Bots Win Man Chee was a vital contributor to the 14-5 Somerville Place victory over Haymarket Mall. The Sentry Bots second baseman was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Somerville Place bumps their record to 7-10 with the win. Chee contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 3-2, Chee took a fastball from R.J. Capps and stroked the home run to left-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Sentry Bots to leap in front, 4-3. In comments to the Somerville Place News, Chee admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear." |
Is "Jason Robinson" a randomly generated name, or one you chose deliberately? I ask because it's a famous name on this side of the Atlantic, as Jason Robinson was a great rugby player, member of the England Rugby Union World Cup winning team. He's retired now, but I believe his son is starting to make his way in the sport.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 6 May 2298 - Freak Accident Injures Gunner Quincy Gunners reserve outfielder Josh Radcake was seriously injured this morning when a shelfing unit at Jamaica Plain's Drumlin Diner collapsed onto Radcake, pinning his legs. Employees and patrons had to lift the heavy shelf off Radcake, and he was transported to the local clinic, awaiting transportation to Milton General Hospital. Radcake will miss some time due to his injuries. In 13 games in 2298, Radcake is 3 for 10 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored. 6 May 2298 - Synths See Difference in Ross A good way teammates would describe Lexington Synths left fielder Tyler Ross would be "son of a *****," according to one anonymous teammate. However, Ross, who entered a long-term relationship late last year has shown some marked changes in personality. Publick Occurrences got ahold of Ross' scouting report in 2296. It read, "Ross has very little loyalty, has a questionable work ethic, and is unthinking. He doesn't tend to make many friends." However, teammates have noticed big changes in him. According to the anonymous teammate, "This is my third year here. I never saw the guy smile in my first two years. Now, I never see him stop." Asked if his relationship may be making the difference, that teammate agreed. "Have you seen her? If she were my girlfriend, I'd smile all the time, too." While Ross did not share with us the details of his relationship, the Synths teammates who never felt like they could approach Ross and stayed far away from him when they lost have now started including him in the in-crowd. According to the anonymous teammate, "He's still not rolling dice with us after the game, but we're not afraid to say hello to him, either." In 22 starts in 2298 as the leadoff hitter, Ross is 30 for 95 (.316) with three doubles, two trriples, four home runs, 15 runs, and 10 RBI. He has stolen five bases and was caught twice. Lexington is currently tied for 5th at 8-14 with Concord in the Institute League. The Synths are in Fort Hagen for a three-game series this weekend. 6 May 2298 - Quincy's Costantino Goes Ballistic with 6 Hits Thanks to Stuart Costantino and his big bat, the Gunners derailed the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets 14-11 today at Red Rockets Stadium. The Quincy catcher had a standout game with 6 hits in 6 at-bats. Stuart Costantino hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Chad Adamczyk in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Steven Rockman in the 9th. This year Costantino is batting .424 (tops in the SCA) with 5 home runs and 22 RBIs. In 22 games he has scored 24 times. Costantino's hit parade sets a South Charles Association record for hits in a game. It's the first time a player has had six hits since Costantino's teammate, David Driftwood, had six on 18 June of last year also against Jamaica Plain. It marks only the fifth time in CBO history a player had six hits in a game. In 2296, Oberland's Jim Pickman had six hits against Atom on 21 March and Nasty Byrd had six against Fairline Hill Estates (now FHE) on 6 June while with Diamond City. Byrd now plays for Lexington. Starlight's Glenn Higinbotham had a six-hit day against Sunshine Tidings on 20 May 2297. In today's contest, CF Flatface Parker also tied a SCA mark for triples in a game with two. He finished 3 for 6 with two triples, a run, and an RBI. The Red Rockets' David Seaweed hit a 2nd-inning grand slam that put his team up 5-2 at the time. Hid Matsumoto and Carney Cornseed also went deep for the home team. 6 May 2298 - Treestump Hits 2 Home Runs in Witch Hats Win Chris Treestump impressed in the 13-7 Salem win over The Slog. Treestump went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 4 times and drove in 4. Roberto Gonzales was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 13 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Salem has now won 3 in a row. Treestump contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Salem in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Treestump took a changeup from Jason Woods and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Witch Hats to leap in front, 4-2. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Treestump told the Salem Times. 6 May 2298 - Stallworth Allows One Hit Through Eight, Claws Win The University Point Deathclaws got a good effort from starter Gary Stallworth in defeating the Warwick Mirelurks at The Homestead. The final score was 3-1. Marc Pondsip earned the save for University Point, his 8th of the year. University Point has a 4-game win streak, while Warwick has lost 4 in a row. Stallworth was effective against the Mirelurks, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Warwick to just no runs on 1 hit over 8 innings. "I wanted him to get the complete game," said University Point manager Woody Lumpkin, "but I wanted to win more. He was gassed and just could not pitch effectively anymore. We want the championship, and beating the Mirleurks is important, more important than trying for the one-hitter." 6 May 2298 - Dominant Performance by Hooker in Fort Hagen Win Fort Hagen starter Brent Hooker had a strong outing against the Lexington Synths at Hubris Comics Park. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-1 win. The win puts Fort Hagen at 14-9 this season. Hooker made it look effortless. He scattered 4 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. The Fort Hagen left-hander encountered little resistance from the Lexington hitters. His season record is now 5-1. "Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Silver Shroud manager Mark Andersen, "I like our chances." 6 May 2298 - Fogcrawler goes 4-for-4 to Power Party Boys Offense Led by Michael Fogcrawler, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys downed the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 6-1. Fogcrawler went 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach has an impressive 17-6 record. Fogcrawler had a key at-bat for Nordhagen Beach early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and gave Nordhagen Beach an early 2-0 lead. Fogcrawler is tied with Vault 81's Erns Gold for the CBO lead in home runs, and he has an 11-RBI advantage over University Point's Kory Richardson. Fogcrawler is considered to be the current frontrunner for the CBO MVP. "The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Fogcrawler told the Nordhagen Beach News. Julian Shed (3-1) earned the win for the Boys despite a short outing. He threw 104 pitches in just 6.1 innings before being lifted for Derek Gist. Shed allowed no runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Four Leafs' only run came on 9th-inning blast by Ginger Rogers off Nordhagen Beach reliever Noodle Green. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 May 2298 - Quincy's Black Called to Duty Quincy Gunners reserve first baseman, aka Brotherhood Initiate, Bill Black was informed Friday night that he was being called to duty for a one-year service period, beginning tomorrow. That means that he cannot return to the CBO for a full calendar year. In nine games in 2298, Black was 6 for 9 with a double, a home run, a run, and three RBI. Black signed up for the Brotherhood as a scribe two years ago. He decided to become an Initiate this past offseason after doubting he would have a role on a CBO team. Black becomes the second Quincy reserve lost in consecutive days. Yesterday, reserve outfielder Josh Radcake suffered multiple injuries when a shelving unit at Drumlin Diner in Jamaica Plain collapsed on him while he was having breakfast. The Gunners called up Tyler Bragmann from the Postal Square Action Boys to take his place. 7 May 2298 - Diamond City Considering Promoting 2296 1st-Rounder The Diamond City Swatters are considering promoting 2296 Rookie Draft 1st Round pick CF Witcher Craft to the CBO squad. Craft, who was taken 7th overall in 2296, is currently batting .324 with four doubles, a triple, 11 runs, and 10 RBI in 17 starts for the first place Natick Banks Big Leaguers. he is second on the team in batting average and leads the team in stolen bases with three. "He's ready," Natick Banks manager Scott Vetson said. "If there's anyone we have here that I would say can go to Diamond City and get the job done, it's Witch." Current Swatters center fielder Logan Crawler is struggling at the plate for a team in dire need of hitting. Crawler is batting .248 in 101 at bats with four doubles, two home runs, 14 runs scored, and 12 driven in. He has stolen six bases and has been caught three times. Among center fielders in the CBO, Crawler is considered to be last among starters. Currently, the OSA has Craft ranked as the 57th best prospect in the league, behind two of his Big Leaguers teammates, 1B Oren Gep and SP Burp Taylor. However, Vetson said those ranking do not factor in X-factors. "Yeah, we know about the OSA reports," Vetson said. "Those guys sit in cubicles in Diamond City making those reports. I know they can see more of the Swatters from their office, but I think those OSA guys never quit looking at their spreadsheets. Come coach Witch and tell me he's #57. I don't buy it." 7 May 2298 - Thunderdome Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 Hits It was a sensational day at the plate for Roxbury Knuckle Punchers center fielder Mike Thunderdome, but a tough one for the team, as the Knuckle Punchers dropped the contest 7-2 to the Vault 81 Dwellers. Even with the loss, Thunderdome was pure misery for the Vault 81 pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked after going 5-for-5 in an explosive display of hitting. "It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win," said Thunderdome, who is the 27-year old center fielder. "Thunderdome really hit the ball hard and when you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage," Dwellers manager Jason Personhood told BNN reporters after the game. "I feel like we threw him some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Thunderdome singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and tripled in the 9th. This season Thunderdome is batting .318 with no home runs. He has scored 15 runs and driven in 9. 7 May 2298 - Landslide Leads Oberland to 7-0 Win Over FHE Lennie Landslide bent a little, but he didn't break against the FHE Yao Guai. The Oberland T-51s pitcher hurled a 4-hit 7-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 1 walk and tallying 3 strikeouts. "Lennie is good at getting out of jams," T-51s manager Dirk Steadyhand told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you." Landslide has a 4-1 season record so far. In 6 starts, he has fanned 18 batters in 40.2 innings with a 3.98 ERA. 7 May 2298 - Synths End Tiller's Streak Jim Tiller's 23-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today as the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud suffered a 7-6 setback against the Lexington Synths. Tiller went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. He was visibly upset during a postgame press conference, but it appeared that the streak had little to do with it. "The hitting streak was one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep about it tonight," he said. "On the other hand, I am going to lose sleep about dropping this game today." So far this season Tiller has hit .444, 2nd in the CBO, with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 20 times. The game was particularly brutal for the Shroud after a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh slipped away. The Synths tied the game by scoring six runs in the 7th and then went up with a run in the 8th. Tyler Ross, the Lexington left fielder, had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Synths ahead, 7-6. For the game, Ross had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats. "I like winning," Ross told the Lexington Herald. "I may look relaxed these days, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing." 7 May 2298 - Cherry Leads Radstags to Win The Concord Radstags topped the Abernathy Adamantium, 10-7, at Tato Field. Concord catcher Shawn Cherry banged out 2 singles and 2 doubles, while driving in 4 runs. The win was credited to Burt Oldshoe in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Kyle Clevinger took the loss. Earning his 6th save of the year was Bell Franklin. Ricky Ticky Laughy, who is tied for 4th in the NCA in triples with 3, chipped in for Concord with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 RBI. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Cherry told the Concord Daily. The win puts Concord at 9-15. 7 May 2298 - Pettinato Lifts Gunners to 13-6 Triumph The timely hitting of Ben Pettinato helped the Quincy Gunners down the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 13-6. Pettinato was 2-5 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for the Gunners. The triumph puts Quincy at 14-10 for the season. Pettinato put Quincy up, 8-1, when he hit a grand slam home run off John Bayers in the top of the fourth. His 6th home run of the season helped the Gunners capture the win. "I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Pettinato. "And not try to do too much." 7 May 2298 - Ghouls Rocked By Witch Hats, 10-1 Joe Rossi had a 3-RBI game, during Salem's 10-1 triumph over the The Slog Ghouls. Rossi contributed 3 singles and 1 home run to the cause. Salem has a 4-game win streak, while The Slog has lost 4 in a row. The Witch Hats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Facing The Slog hurler Tyler Storts with two outs, Rossi hit a run-scoring single. "Enjoyed this one," Rossi told the Salem Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow." 7 May 2298 - Blown Save Ruins Party Boys Comeback The Finch Farm Four Leafs topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys by a score of 8-7 in 10 innings. Leading the way was center fielder Ginger Rogers. Rogers went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Four Leafs. Finch Farm reliever Steve Warwar picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Night Demon Archacki shouldered the loss one inning after blowing the save in the 9th. Finch Farm is now 10-14, Nordhagen Beach 17-7. Finch Farm won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With two outs and Archacki on the mound for Nordhagen Beach, third baseman Peter Tatoeater hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Four Leafs fans to their feet. In postgame remarks, Rogers simply said: "Here's to a great win!" The Party Boys had battled back to tie the game, 6-6, in the top of the 8th on a Brian Masterson solo shot. In the top of the 9th, the Boys took their first lead since being up 5-2 early when Masterson was walked with the bases loaded to score Tomas Jones. However, in the bottom of the 9th, the Four Leafs tied the game, 7-7, when Rogers hit an RBI sacrifice fly with one out to score Tommy Junkman from third base. |

Unfortunately, I cannot name one rugby player. Well, now I CAN name one! :D |
Jason Robinson of the CBO has been a really good player but he saw his average dip quite a bit last season.
Originally drafted by the Stags in the 3rd round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Robinson led the Institute League in home runs (18) in 2296 and RBI (60) in 2297. This season, he is batting .267 with 5 home runs and 16 RBI in 24 games. The Stags are a pretty poor hitting team, so his .267 is third(!!!) on his team. Now, in MLB, .267 would be a really good average for the middle-of-the-lineup hitters, but not so in the CBO. He is also tied for the team lead in homers and second on the team in RBI. |
I notice that the Vault-81 Dwellers managed to get "Beyond Thunderdome"! [Sorry!]

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 8 May 2298 - Go Has 20-Game Hitting Streak Millioncap Go continued his streak at Tarberry Field Forever today, even as the ballgame did not go his way. The The Slog center fielder was 2-for-4 in today's contest and now has hit safely in his last 20 games. The Ghouls were not as fortunate, losing 6-4 to the Salem Witch Hats. "Go was hitting everything we threw at him," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse. "He is a tough out. Fortunately, things went our way in the ballgame today and we came away with a win." Millioncap Go doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th. Go is currently hitting at a .412 pace with 1 home run, 14 RBIs and has scored 19 times. Salem's Joe Rossi went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Witch Hats. Dan Beantown recorded the save for Salem, his 7th of the season. Rossi contributed in the top of the fifth. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped Salem take the lead and eventually get the win. "We took advantage of our opportunities," Rossi told the Salem Times. "It's as simple as that." The Ghouls, at 12-13, have lost 5 straight games. 8 May 2298 - Ninjas, Danse Blast Swatters, 10-1 The Egret Ninjas downed the Diamond City Swatters, 10-1. The hitting star was left fielder Paladin Danse. Danse was 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 4 for the Ninjas. The third-place Ninjas have won 4 straight games. Egret relied on the hitting of Tony Tamez to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Ninjas on top, 3-0. For the game, Tamez had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats. "Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Danse. 8 May 2298 - Carrotflower 3-3, Leads Bloodbugs to Win Bloodbugs second baseman Joel Carrotflower put his stamp on his team's 10-4 win over the Easy Town Assaultrons. Carrotflower went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for County Crossing in the contest. County Crossing swept the Assaultrons. Carrotflower had a consequential at-bat in the bottom of the fifth for the Bloodbugs. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and County Crossing trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single. "We'll enjoy this win," said Carrotflower. "But there's more we hope to accomplish." 8 May 2298 - Hancocks Drop Cats, 6-1 Goodneighbor got a strong outing from Quincy Eloquent as the Hancocks defeated the Atom Cats, 6-1, at Coolest Field in Town. Goodneighbor has run its win streak to 7 in a row. Burtie Cuttooth, who is tied for 6th in the SCA in doubles with 10, contributed to the Goodneighbor win with a 2-run single in the top of the third. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 RBI. "I felt good up there," said Cuttooth. "I saw the ball well." 8 May 2298 - Synths Upend Silver Shroud, 10-7 Swat Diamond was a major factor in the 10-7 Lexington win over Fort Hagen. The Synths first baseman went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Doug Dee El earned the save for Lexington, his 4th. The Synths go to 10-15 with the win. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Greg Macn? The Lexington second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Synths on top, 5-2. For the game, Macn had 2 doubles and 1 single in 5 at-bats. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Diamond told the Lexington Herald. 8 May 2298 - Finch Farm Topples Nordhagen Beach, 8-4 The Finch Farm Four Leafs powered past the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 8-4, at Finch Family Park. Danny Honeycutt was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, to lead the charge. Finch Farm starter Matt Pageturner was credited with the win after throwing 134 pitches over 8.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-3. The Four Leafs now own a record of 11-14 after winning two of three from the first-place Party Boys. In the bottom of the first, Matt Basile hit a 3-run home run. The 6th home run of the season for the Finch Farm right fielder put the Four Leafs on top, 3-1. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Honeycutt said. |
2298 Week 5 - The Week in Review

Analysis
We promised we would break down the Institute and Minutemen Leagues more this week, so let us get to it! Last week, when starting this column, we would have put our primary focus on the domination that was Fort Hagen. However, after a bad week, the Silver Shroud find themselves suddenly two games back of the hotter Abernathy Adamantium. The problem for the Shroud is hard to pinpoint, but they are currently on a bad run in their last nine games, going 2-7 during that stretch, with only one win so far in May. That also means that they have dropped their last two division series and stand with The Slog and Starlight, who have each lost five straight, as the coldest teams in the North Charles Association. Other than the last two losses to Lexington where they scored six and seven runs, the offense has been held to two or fewer runs in most of their recent losses. Before, the Shroud were challenging for the best run production in the CBO, but now they have dropped to third in run production in the NCA. That would still be OK if they were not in the bottom half in the association in runs allowed. In short, Fort Hagen needs to find their bats again since most of the lineup is currently on a cold streak. That excludes, of course, the two best: Safety Langer (.446/5/23) and Jim Tiller (.442/7/26). Those guys are in talks of being MVP candidates, but the other six guys need to continue hitting at a solid clip for those two bats to matter. Abernathy is now the team to beat in the CBO, moving themselves up to 4th in the Power Rankings, only behind behemoths Oberland, Gooidneighbor, and Nordhagen Beach. The Adamantium have mostly relied on good pitching and have seen their run production step up recently. Right now, the Adamantium are tied for 4th in run production (137) and 3rd in runs allowed (113) in the NCA, giving them an upper half advantage in each category. Leading the Abernathy charge is Brad Westing. Westing, who was the 15th overall selection in the 2296 Inaugural Draft by the Shaw HS (now Roxbury) Knuckle Punchers, just could not get his game together in his first two years, including going a CBO worst 2-15 in 2296. After a trade to Abernathy, though, he has seen his wins and runs allowed improve. Currently, he is 6-1 with a 2.88 ERA, solidly putting him in the Pitcher of the Year mix at this point in the season. Offensively, Donny Kowalski has been impressive, hitting .320 with 9 home runs and 21 RBI. Austin Engill (.278/4/16) has not been as good as he has been, but he is still considered the best hitting-defending quality shortstop in the CBO. In the Minutemen League, Goodneighbor has now overtaken the hottest team in the CBO crown. The Hancocks are on a seven-game streak thanks in part to the easiest string of opponents in the last week: Jamaica Plain (10-15), Roxbury (7-18), and Atom (8-17). Still, a win is a win regardless of opponent, and the Hancocks are getting wins in bunches to push themselves up to #2 in the Power Rankings. They are now 1st in the CBO in runs (177) and are second in runs allowed (108) in the South Charles Association behind just Oberland (77). The Hancocks do it all right now, leading some to think they can challenge the T-51s for the SCA dominance. Pitching-wise, Bruce Iddings (6-0, 3.26), Quincy Eloquent (4-2, 3.91), and Bill Little (5-0, 4.09) are all dominant with just John Oldsink (2-3, 5.74) struggling. With the swatters, 7 of 8 batters are batting over .300, with Zachary Utsinger leading the way at .408. John Rose (.385/5/24) is not showing a lot of power for the Hancocks, but he helps create runs. In fact, Rose leads the team in home runs, but Goodneighbor ranks tied for 10th in the SCA with 22. Bryan Assman (.358/4/24) is also productive in the three hole. The rest of the ML is not as competitive as it was at the top last season, but Quincy and University Point are currently in a battle for the wildcard slot with Warwick recently falling off. The Gunners got a series win over the Red Rockets, while the Deathclaws dropped their series to the Mirelurks. Overall, Quincy probably has the advantage. Currently they are 2nd in runs scored (160) and 5th in runs allowed (134). The Claws, on the other hand, are not as successful in run production (6th with 136) but slightly better in pitching (113 runs allowed for 3rd in the SCA). This week, we'll be watching a few key matchups. Nordhagen Beach has a gamut of games against struggling teams, but will need to bounce back from their series loss to Finch Farm. The Party Boys have Starlight, the Four Leafs, Sunshine Tidings, and The Slog in their next four series. Wins in most of those games should keep the Boys in good shape in the Brotherhood League. Easy Town already has a tough chance to break their three-game losing streak when they visit Fort Hagen for the midweek series and then host Abernathy next week. They will host The Slog over the weekend and then County Crossing the following weekend, so they may be able to keep pace with Nordhagen Beach in the league. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 9 May 2298 - Taffington's Stubbs Calls It Quits Frustrated by his role on the team, Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters relief pitcher Robert Stubs has retired effective immediately. Stubbs originally signed with the Warwick Mirelurks organization after being undrafted in the 2296 Inaugural Draft. He later moved to several teams before settling with the Easy Town Assaultrons organization. There he was a reliever for the Spy Hunters in 2297 and 2298. This season, he appeared in four games, allowing one earned run on six hits in 7.2 innings for a 1.17 ERA. In his career with Taffington Boathouse, he allowed one earned run on 12 hits with 14 walks and 18 strikeouts in 19.2 innings for a 0.46 ERA. He recorded one win. 9 May 2298 - NCA Awards Best Batter Prize to Rogers At the age of 26, Ginger Rogers might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Finch Farm center fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .471 batting average. For his efforts Rogers collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 8 hits in 17 at-bats, 5 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 5 games. Rogers is batting .281 this year with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 27 hits in 96 at-bats. 9 May 2298 - Costantino Selected Player of the Week One of the league's most exciting young players, Stuart Costantino of the Quincy Gunners earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 19-year-old catcher had a lofty .632 average (12-for-19), collecting 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 9 runs scored. This season Costantino is swinging the bat at a .435 pace. He has hit 6 home runs and scored 28 times, while driving in 24. His on-base percentage is .514 and he has played in 24 games. |
The View from the BMU

Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kowalski 10 May 2298 – Corvega Assembly Plant On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our ninth trip around the BMU, we will go to the Lexington area to take a look at the place where vehicles are made again, Corvega Assembly Plant. 2287 - A Base of Raiders According to a terminal entry pre-Nate: "The Corvega assembly plant is a location in the city of Lexington in the Commonwealth in 2287. The pre-War facility is home to a group of raiders. "Jared, the raider leader, is in a small, well-guarded area near the top of the factory. . . . As a child, he spent time with Mama Murphy who correctly predicted Jared's later abduction by raiders and that he was 'gonna be a monster.' https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1604423430 The Plant under the moonlight "After taking over the Corvega assembly plant, he spent much of his time attempting to duplicate Murphy's ability, to no avail. He even began recruiting new members by enticing them with free chems, in order to experiment on them. When Gristle informed him of an elderly woman traveling with a caravan, Jared sent his lieutenant after them, certain that she was the fortune teller. This woman was indeed Mama Murphy, who was traveling with Preston Garvey and the other survivors of the Quincy Massacre, searching for a spot to start rebuilding their lives. "Gristle's raiders successfully trapped the caravan in Concord's Museum of Freedom, however, Garvey managed to call out to a passing traveler, the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, aka Nate Howard, asking them for help. Nate intervened, killing Gristle's raiders and rescuing the Quincy survivors. Nate later attacked the Corvega plant at the request of the residents at one of the settlements, Tenpines Bluff, that the gang was menacing. Jared was among those killed in the attack." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1604423430 The Corvega Assembly Plant wide view 2298 - A Base of Technicians and Mechanics After Nate cleared the factory, it stayed dormant for a time. However, Nate was sure to get some Minutemen troops and later Brotherhood troops to patrol the area. According to Nate, the future of the Commonwealth could be linked to the intact but inoperable factory. Later, after peace among the four factions came to be, Nate recruited the services of a not-very-stable genius, Tinker Tom, to get the plant back to pre-war operation. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1604423497 A pre-War display of a Corvega Among the tasks for Tinker Tom was to stabilize the nuclear energy of the Chryslus Motors Corporation line of vehicles. Though they were stable pre-war, something Nate discovered was that a single gunshot to a post-war vehicle caused a small nuclear detonation. "We can't use vehicles if they're going to blow up in the smallest of fender benders," Nate said. "We need stability, durability, and raw power." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1604423497 The assembly line Tinker Tom and his team started tinkering with the vehicles while also putting into place the moving parts necessary to reproduce a full line of vehicles. The plant does not work with the same efficiency it once did, but according to Tinker Tom, the factory can steadily produce on average from 2-5 vehicles per week. Soon, they hope to move that closer to a car a day produced. Lexington, Baseball, and Corvega Something that has been asked of Nate in regards to being the commissioner of the CBO, and thus also the BMU, is why the Corvega team is not somehow associated with the Lexington Synths instead of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1604423430 A line of completed cars used as models. Here Preston Garvey checks out a Corvega in beautiful lime green. Nate has declared that he wants diversity in fan bases in the teams. He has also mentioned that the teams in the BMU may become more regionally diverse now that the Corvega line of cars are available to help teams move across the Commonwealth in a more timely manner. According to Nate, "Right now, teams have two factors: one, we want the populations of the smaller communities to support their local BMU teams, which we hope translates to also supporting their correlating CBO teams. "Two, we want to eventually move away from regional leagues being directly associated with nearby teams. Right now, the Dark Hollow Pond League, for example, is only representative of Brotherhood League teams. Once we can move around more easily, I would like the Dark Hollow Pond to perhaps expand its borders away from the Dark Hollow Pond and Malden areas to more of all of Charlestown. Also, we would like those expanded leagues to have at least one representative of each of the four CBO leagues." In the meantime, the Corvega Assembly Plant is helping to divide the Lexington area in its allegiances to the CBO between the Synths and the Chemists. Since Lexington is the most-heavily populated settlement north of the Charles River, Nate sees the plant acting as a good dividing line for fandom diversity. "We're seeing more and more people sporting Flamers gear this year than we did last year," Nate said. "It helps that Super Duper Mart is pushing that team's gear, too. It helps the overall bottom line." |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 10 May 2298 - 4-1 Win Takes Silver Shroud to 15-11 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud starter Brent Hooker pitched a strong game against the Easy Town Assaultrons at Hubris Comics Park, leading the Silver Shroud to victory, 4-1. The Assaultrons, at 16-10, have lost 4 in a row. The Silver Shroud got an important contribution from left fielder Andre Grogg, who in the bottom of the third knocked a 2-2 fastball into left-center for a 2-run double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Silver Shroud ahead, 4-0. "I thought we played a nice game," Hooker told the Fort Hagen Bulletin. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there." 10 May 2298 - Hirshfield Excels, But Gunners Win Roxbury left fielder Chris Hirshfield had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hirshfield belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice, even as Quincy beat the Knuckle Punchers, 13-7. Ray Human got the win, improving to 1-2. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 4. The win hiked the Quincy record to 15-11. In the top of the second, Ray Human delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Quincy starting pitcher hit a 2-run single, putting the Gunners in front, 13-7. "We put it together today and came out with the win," Human said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing." 10 May 2298 - Mirelurks Nip Swatters, 2-1 Behind an impressive start by Dave Kovalenko, Warwick beat Diamond City, 2-1, in 11 innings. With the win, Warwick pushed its record to 13-13. The Mirelurks liked what they saw from Kovalenko. The 19-year old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Swatters to 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings, and striking out 7. Afterward, Mirelurks manager Old Man Langford was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch." 10 May 2298 - Flatt Rips 2 Home Runs in 10-6 Red Rockets Triumph The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets grabbed a win, 10-6, over the Oberland T-51s at Red Rockets Stadium. Jamaica Plain first baseman Cody Flatt belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Jamaica Plain starter Will Rope was credited with the win after throwing 109 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 5-0. The Red Rockets improve their record to 11-15 with the win over Oberland. Jamaica Plain took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Flatt hit a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season made the score 7-4, Jamaica Plain. "I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Flatt. 10 May 2298 - Lady Killers Lose Again, 4-1, to Party Boys Nordhagen Beach starter Chet Arthur had a strong outing against the Starlight Lady Killers at Valentine Detective Agency Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. In 7 innings, Arthur surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Night Demon Archacki earned the save, his 8th, for the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach used a well-timed hit by Tomas Jones to capture the win. The right fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Party Boys ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important. "It was a solid team effort," said Jones after the game. The slumping Lady Killers have dropped 6 in a row. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 11 May 2298 - The ESAU Turns Two From our story two years ago today, a great technology for Commonwealth baseball and communication in general began its ascent. Here's the story in full. Check it out on our intraweb terminal! Diamond City - CBO Commissioner Nate Howard held a live press conference on Diamond City Radio today detailing the new technology for the CBO and later the Commonwealth. The technology, called the E.S.A.U. (pronounced ee-saw, according to Howard) Initiative, or Electronic Stadium Amplification Unit, will allow stadiums to send out real-time box scores and game logs so that everyone knows what is happening around the league at the same time. In other words, real-time scores and statistics so that broadcasters can relay those scores and stats to listeners. That way, fans can follow their favorite teams regardless of where they are in the Commonwealth, as long as they have console or Pip-Boy access or as long as they can tune in to Diamond City Radio or WRVR. Three ESAUs were tested in the Institute League over the weekend where Diamond City Radio was able to provide real-time stats of players in relation to the rest of the league, including knowing what other scores were that day without having a runner pass on the information. Since all games in the IL were played at different times, it was not relevant for the weekend, but Week 7 will allow radio hosts and intraweb users to access real-time information, an exciting addition for relaying information and improving interest in the CBO. Howard also expressed that his hope is to further tie in the technology outside the CBO so that people could communicate and learn of news throughout the Commonwealth. Though there is intraweb access on a limited basis, the ESAUs, currently being installed in 24 stadiums across the Commonwealth, will greatly help in connecting the Commonwealth as one. One problem the ESAU Initiative has encountered is interference because of radstorms. Because the intraweb is radio-based, any static charges caused by radstorms will render the ESAU technology useless at the time. However, radstorms also interfere with life in general, so baseball games and radio broadcasts are stopped during active radstorms anyway. Thankfully for us, those radstorms are generally finished within one or two hours. Howard also mentioned the efforts of others involved in the ESAU Initiative, including Publick Occurrences' very own (and my sister) Piper Wright. Wright has obtained the Commonwealth rights to BosCom, in association with her media company Pipercom, in hopes of one day bringing back television to the Commonwealth. Wouldn't it be exciting to not only hear the games, but to watch them on television when we cannot be there? I know I would love that. Future announcements on the BosCom venture will become available later since the technology still needs some work. Also involved in the talks included: Hubris Comics' Kent Connolly, research and technology scientists of the Institute, and one crazy guy from the Railroad who goes by the name Tinker Tom who ranted for several minutes about the dangers of gremlins. We here at Publick Occurences are not aware of what gremlins are. Twelve of the ESAUs will be in use this weekend for games starting Thursday, May 14. Although Diamond City will not host a game this weekend, Howard showed off the technology by communicating live information from Starlight Drive-In with Starlight Lady Killers' owner Irish Cait. 11 May 2298 - Red Rockets End Abern's Streak For 24 games in a row, Jonathan Abern of the Oberland T-51s had at least one hit. His day of reckoning finally came today at the hands of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, who held him without a hit in 3 at-bats. Making matters worse for Abern and the T-51s, the Red Rockets also won the ballgame by the score of 6-5. It was a surprising two-game sweep by Jamaica Plain over the defending champions and current best team in the CBO. "Jonathan is a great clubhouse presence, and he has done incredible things on the field for us the last few weeks," Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand said following the game. "We're not going to forget all that just because of a bad day." Abern currently has a .379 batting average with 36 hits, 3 homers, 16 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a .460 OBP. 11 May 2298 - Driftwood scores 3 runs in Gunners Win A 4-RBI performance from right fielder David Driftwood, who is tied for 5th in the SCA in RBI with 26, led the Quincy Gunners to a win over the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 9-7. The win elevated the Gunners to 16-11. Flatface Parker, who is tied for 3rd in the SCA in hits with 44, aided the Quincy cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the second. For the game, the center fielder went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Driftwood called the triumph "a good team win." 11 May 2298 - Froggatt, Deathclaws Get 9-2 Win University Point rode a decent outing from starter Adam Froggatt to victory over the Vault 81 Dwellers. The final score was 9-2. The win puts University Point at 15-12 this season. Froggatt pitched a complete game for University Point. Froggatt surrendered 3 hits over 9 innings and struck out 9. With the win, he moves to 1-0 on the season. "The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Froggatt. "Successful pitchers do it." 11 May 2298 - Dungan Stars in 4-2 Silver Shroud Win Behind a solid performance from shortstop Seth Dungan, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud defeated the Easy Town Assaultrons, 4-2. Dungan was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Silver Shroud. All Day Acosta got the win, improving to 2-1. He held the Assaultrons to 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Easy Town now has a 5-game losing streak. Fort Hagen took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Safety Langer stroked a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Silver Shroud. "I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Langer. "And not try to do too much." 11 May 2298 - Lady Killers Bridle Party Boys, 4-3 Starting pitcher Justin Sphinx pitched well enough to help the Starlight Lady Killers beat the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 4-3. In 7 innings, Sphinx surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Larry Undertaker, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save. Making an impact for the home team was Justin People. In the bottom of the fourth, the 28-year old shortstop had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 4-0, Lady Killers. "We did a lot of things right," said Sphinx. The Lady Killers sport a record of 11-16. |
