Nope!

But I have my means and know how to get around obstacles.

2021 Jacob deGrom is the living embodiment of the phrase "we can't have nice things".

Somehow they're up by 5.5 games though...

Westheim 06-19-2021 03:04 PM

I'm sure David Peterson is a nice boy and all, but his starts are a soul-bleaching drag and material for haunting nightmares. The sort where you dream you need to put the apple in the bowl, but no matter how often you carefully place it in there, it always rolls back out.

Yes! Only it's real life, and it's the last orange on the stack in the bowl. A nightmare, I tell you! It comes down to me or the orange — one must win and one must lose. (In the end, the orange always wins. :()

**** Kyle Schwarber...

Career .230 hitter with grotesque defense. Probably has his eyes closed while flailing. I hate that sort of player. I hate that sort of player. I hated Schwarber with passion even before this weekend.

6-for-15, 5 HR, 8 RBI

Ah!! ... Ah!!! ... (walks out muttering, yelling, and waving with both arms)

Westheim 06-20-2021 03:29 PM

Has a chance for a 4-homer game (batting fifth in the bottom 8th) - gets pulled for defense!

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Thanks, Gnats skip, for proving my point.

I will now wipe the foam off my mouth.

3 homers, and they pulled him? Good God.

Even with a 3-run lead against these clown-shoed Mets, who except for a 5 RBI game from Lindor on Saturday did NOTHING for an entire 4-game weekend, he was too much of a public safety hazard out there to be allowed a shot at immortality compared to the benefits of a same old, same old Sunday afternoon W in the middle of June.

Even his manager, a career .276 singles poker, who played in MLB for 16 years and has a chance to have his K total eclipsed by Schwarber early next year, hates him. :D

(In the event, his spot never came up - Mets' Dr. Smith put only one guy aboard in the eighth and he would have starved in the on-deck circle)

Glove, hat and belt

According to the New York Times,
Quote:

Let the record show that Jacob deGrom was the first pitcher subjected to a mandatory search by umpires under Major League Baseball’s new police state. The league decided to start with the best on Monday and work its way down ... “What all do you guys need?” deGrom said he asked the plate umpire, Ben May, and the crew chief, Ron Kulpa, on his way back to the dugout. “Glove, hat and belt,” they replied, and deGrom did as told.
Whereupon, he aced his inspection. Whereupon, he proceeded to dominate opposing batters as usual.

I find myself admiring Jacob deGrom much more than Gerrit Cole right now.

Cole will get searched too. Sometimes. In August or so. They'll find a pack of marked playing cards, a dry luffa sponge, and a 15th century Burgundian morningstar - which might explain a thing or two about his numbers and why his ERA is four+ times Jake's.

Westheim 06-23-2021 02:34 AM

Mets are shut out for the fourth time since Friday, Stroman exits in the first inning with a hip thing, and Lucchesi will have Tommy John.

And people wonder why I keep working on my own guillotine in front of the house.

Westheim 06-25-2021 05:17 PM

Nola strikes out 10 straight Mets, tying Tom Seaver's all-time record.

Sometimes I hate the Mets, taking every available opportunity to step on their own di- ... pitchers.

Westheim 06-25-2021 05:31 PM

Nola doubles in the first run.

I have blood in my mouth.

2-1 win, like glue. When Dom started to bunt I had a little seizure... You already struck out 56 times in seven innings and now you're starting to GIFT them outs??

MLB.com refuses to acknowledge the W. The game is still shown as tied in the middle of the eighth; the MLB.tv interface also crapped out at that point. Hah! Computers! Where would we be without them...

BBGiovanni 06-25-2021 11:37 PM

At least they sneaked out with one of the two; when they crapped out in the bottom of the 6th in the early game I had to take the dog out and was glad to, because of course they wouldn't get that close again. Then I caught most of game 2, and kept waiting for them to convert some of their very obvious chances to get the sweep :(

Also, I know the pickings are slim in the bullpen but I've been over Castro for quite a while.

Westheim 06-26-2021 06:18 AM

The second one was worse than the first one, and that says something. Nobody on that team can get a ******* base hit with a runner (rare enough) in scoring position (even more so).

Except for Mazeika. He should bat cleanup.

rudel.dietrich 06-26-2021 06:38 PM

I note with amusement that the Mets are still in first place in an weak division. And none of the other teams believe in being above .500
As much as it pains me to say, I think the Mets will win the division.

And there are not really any good teams on baseball. Only two teams in the entire league have a winning percentage above .600
If the Mets make the playoffs, why couldn’t they do well when the rest of the league is so average this season?

Westheim 06-26-2021 07:21 PM

Fewest runs per game in the league would be my starter.

They walked off on the Phillies today, 4-3, but only because Hector Neris *insisted* that they do.

Westheim 07-01-2021 01:23 AM

Hey, Pete hit a 2-run homer in the first in the Barves' den!

Okay, the Barves then answered with 20 on Peterson, Reid-Foley, and whoever else the Mets' Mediocre Meatballer Manufacture managed to get mangled before innings ran out.

Times like these make me happy that I can't watch every game.
