Well, misery loves company but still, this kind of crap has to stop happening to New York teams!
Except to each other. :) |
TRAVIS ******* BLANKENHORN!! 3-RUN HOMER!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
There is our savior!! Silly me! I thought it would be JOHNESHWY FARGAS!! |
Are you sure it wasn't Trevor Hildenberger?
|
Nono, the bullpen savior was Brooks Pounders, and we let him walk...!

Now I see, to my amazement, that the Mets came back to win the game, 7-6. Where is the rejoicing in this thread? |
Well, as was the Official Line yesterday, "one game doesn't matter so much". I mean, better to win than lose…but we still did drop 4 out of 7 to PITTSBURGH and we played horribly in that first inning.
I mean, it would be nice if we could depend on Blankenhorn to save us regularly, but that seems a long shot. Interesting statistical note: the three times since 1906 that a team has climbed out of an 0-6 hole only to blow a 6-0 of their own the next game are 1968 (Cards/Reds), 2019 (Jays/Reds) and now this. One wouldn't think that consecutive offensive comebacks would feature in low-wattage seasons like '68 and this, but that's the charm of the game: the long season allows for results that are anomalous, despite the larger trends. Or we could just destroy baseball and replace it with Home Run Derby, extra-innings decided by coin flips, and "March Madness" bloated playoffs, like Rob Manfred seems to want. Sigh. I'll miss you, game. |

Somehow. |

Obviously I'm glad they came back, but they came within a hair of losing 5 (or 6) out of 7 to PIT and go on without Jake and Lindor. And Lance Blankenship is doing his Billy McKinney, Rajai Davis, Carlos Gomez, etc. etc. impression. They're now literally depending on 4 teams being worse than they are for another 3 months. |
That's probably what Galileo yelled out under torture by the Inquisition - "And yet they are six games over .500!"
And these games were torture. Not because of the wrong Gary btw, even though he was not very well experienced in calling the ball flight on the screen. But if you play this badly against the Pirates, better give the Phillies a wide berth. |
Stats after Naquin's swinging bunt scored Votto in the Cincinnati 2nd:
Outs recorded by Eickhoff: 4 Errors committed by Mets "defense": 4 Unearned runs scored: 5 Current Mets Rotation: Marcus "You Talking Sh*t?" Stroman All-Star Taijuan Walker Tylor Megill Jerad Eickhoff, cursing his "defense" Robert Stock (really??) Injured Mets starters: Jacob deGrom Noah Syndergaard Carlos Carrasco David Peterson Joey Lucchesi Jordan Yamamoto Corey Oswalt And also Robert Gsellman, who has yet to start or be projected to this year, but obviously could. Sigh. |
Put me in, coach! I throw like a 9-year-old girl, but it might confuse them at least for a little bit! :woohoo:
|
Gary Cohen says it's the first time ever that Timmy has blown (see what I did there?) three consecutive save chances.
I say don't sell him short, though. I think Edlose has much more of that in him. This could be the new Anthony Young! Btw, not only was Blankenhorn sent down after his HR heroics on Sunday, but the ball was lost in the Ohio River. Sorry, kid. |

And then there's Blankenhorn. Well, he's a Travis on the Mets, what did he expect? He should be glad he broke the zero in his HR column and not a leg. |
It will be our pleasure to beat the Phillies in both games (if we can) just to suit you guys. :)

But he's been dead since 2003. Oops, that's Stock, with an "o"... Probably will have the same stat line as Robert Stack... flat. |

Ah, the cozy, comfy game I neeed!
7-0 over the Reds. Scored a bunch early, no real danger, only one measly hit for Cincy by Aquino, done. And the guy in the outfield with the Hawaiian Pete shirt and the chubby kid that was too inept to hold up the cardboard cutout of Pete's head. Joy. |
I'll go out on a limb here and say the Mets will go undefeated in games where they score 7 or more runs and hold the opponents to 1 hit!
