The View from the BMU

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 June 2298 – College Station

On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play.

In our sixteenth trip around the BMU, we will go to the location of the old premier Cambridge University of the famed Ivy League, College Square.

An American Institution

Originally known as Harvard University before the Great Renaming Act of 2027, Cambridge University "was established in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1638, it acquired British North America's first known printing press. In 1639, it was named Harvard College after deceased clergyman John Harvard, an alumnus of the University of Cambridge who had left the school £779 and his library of some 400 volumes. The charter creating the Harvard Corporation was granted in 1650.

College Square - pre-War

"A 1643 publication gave the school's purpose as 'to advance learning and perpetuate it to posterity, dreading to leave an illiterate ministry to the churches when our present ministers shall lie in the dust.' It trained many Puritan ministers in its early years and offered a classic curriculum based on the English university model*—*many leaders in the colony had attended the [original] University of Cambridge*—*but conformed to the tenets of Puritanism. Harvard has never affiliated with any particular denomination, though many of its earliest graduates went on to become clergymen in Congregational and Unitarian churches.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606345644
College Square - pre-War

The University remained a member of what was known as the Ivy League throughout its existence. In 2027, it changed its name from Harvard University to Cambridge University by unanimous student vote. For a short time there was a financial crisis since many alumni ceased donating to the university and several prominent students dropped out.

The Age of Feral Ghouls

According to a terminal entry from 2287, "College Square is a landmark in the ruins of Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2287. From the battle lines, it appears as though raiders were attempting to make a stand against feral ghouls but were overrun.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606345644
College Square - 2287

"Once the center of Cambridge University and a part of Cambridge, this central square is currently a ruin of a different sort; originally a stronghold held by raiders, it was recently overrun by a massive infestation of ferals. Prior to its fall, this encampment was not only the center for the usual raider antics but also an extortion racket, charging travelers a fee to ensure safe passage from the raiders. Since its fall, the area earned a reputation for transients being torn apart by the ferals. Needless to say, travelers, transients, and scavengers have avoided the place, leaving the place ripe for looting."

Education Returning?

The Cambridge area has been cleaned up a lot more than some of the Downtown Boston areas, but there is still a lot to do before the entire area can be considered pre-War quality.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606345677
College Square - 2298

The area is feral ghoul free save the random encounter from time to time. What has sprouted is a lot more young people congregating than ever before because of the buzz behind Nate Howard's words from a few years ago.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606345677
College Square - 2298

According to a terminal entry from 2295, Howard said, "I would love to bring back Cambridge University and have maybe the only college in all of the world right now.

"Even though I never attended CU, I most certainly spent some time there, even before meeting Nora. I was there a lot more often after I met Nora and she attended CU Law School. I would love to help get the university restarted and have a special section for Law devoted to Nora. It is something I have as a goal as soon as I have all the caps I need to fund it."

28 June 2298 - BMU: Knox Helps Raybathers Beat Nerd Ragers, 13-4

In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.

The Mystic Pines Raybathers downed the College Square Nerd Ragers, 13-4, at Nuka Cola Square. The Raybathers were led by Justice Knox. He was 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Trombone Jones, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 4-3.

With Mystic Pines leading 9-4 in the top of the eighth, Knox came up to bat against College Square pitcher Lost Dog Coleman. Knox hit a curveball to left for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Raybathers on top, 12-4.

"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Knox said in reaction to the win.

Mystic Pines now has a record of 24-18 with the win.

28 June 2298 - BMU: Gun Fu End Burgess's Streak

Howie Burgess came rolling into today's game against the Bunker Hill Gun Fu with a 22-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Wicked Shipping Field.

The 19-year-old C.I.T. Ruins Refractors second baseman went 0-for-2 against the Gun Fu as the Refractors fell, 4-3.

"I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all."

This season Burgess is swinging the bat at a .308 rate with 52 hits in 169 at-bats. To date he has hit 3 home runs, scored 25 runs and driven in 19.

28 June 2298 - BMU: Uglyhair Excels in 17-8 Natick Banks Win

The performance of Jim Uglyhair proved critical in helping Natick Banks beat Forest Grove, 17-8. The Big Leaguers center fielder went 2 for 2 with a double and 3 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Natick Banks reliever Kyle McClurg picked up the win to move to 1-0. Whokill Poole suffered the loss. The triumph puts Natick Banks at 26-16 for the season.

The Big Leaguers benefited from an error in the bottom of the second inning. Natick Banks was leading 7-0 when Max Jones hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Natick Banks in front, 9-0.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Uglyhair said.

Oren Gep also had a big game for the Big Leaguers. He was 3 for 5 with a home run, three runs and two RBI.

28 June 2298 - 5-Hit Blitz by Goodman

No matter what the Atom Cats threw him today, Young Goodman hit it. The 20-year-old Roxbury Knuckle Punchers right fielder racked up 5 hits in 6 at-bats today at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury and led the Knuckle Punchers to a 18-13 victory.

Young Goodman struck out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Thus far this year Goodman has hit .251 with 4 home runs and 18 RBIs.

The Cats' Will Ashfire also had a big day with the bat. He was 4 for 6 with a double, a home run, three runs, and five RBI.

28 June 2298 - 5 Hits for Bloodbugs Carrotflower

It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Joel Carrotflower, it came around today.

The 26-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Valentine Detective Agency Field to pace the County Crossing Bloodbugs to a 17-6 victory over the Starlight Lady Killers.

Starlight skipper Eric Bendure told reporters in the press room that "Carrotflower deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Carrotflower hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Joel Carrotflower hit a two-run single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.

So far this season Carrotflower is hitting .368 with 4 home runs, 36 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 93 hits in 253 at-bats and a .414 OBP.

28 June 2298 - Ramos, Chemists Fall to Party Boys

The inspired effort of Sunshine Tidings right fielder Brightsun Ramos was not enough to prevent a loss, 14-9, to the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Ramos was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Nordhagen Beach leads the North Charles Association Brotherhood League by 2 games.

In the bottom of the first, Michael Fogcrawler hit a 3-run home run. The 19th home run of the season for the Nordhagen Beach left fielder put the Party Boys on top, 3-1. The Boys went on to score three more runs in the inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead after one. The scored six more in the third to push their lead to 12-3 after four.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Craig Robinson said.

Nordhagen Beach also premiered their new third baseman, Jon Hitman, who batted fifth in the lineup. He went 1 for 5, which included a three-RBI double in the third inning. Tomas Jones finished 3 for 5 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI.

28 June 2298 - Fort Hagen Gets 6-5 Win

Salem got a terrific game from first baseman Antonio Toeclaw. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Fort Hagen, 6-5. Toeclaw hit 2 home runs while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Brent Hooker was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Curtis Thriceshot notched his 20th save in 21 chances.

Ben Pawlak, the 21-year old center fielder, had a direct impact on the outcome. Pawlak contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Fort Hagen up, 3-2.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse. "But we decided not to take it."

The win gives Fort Hagen a season record of 31-30.

Tatoeater told a Finch Farm Observer reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

Bullets Gets 3-Game Suspension: Alec Bullets was suspended for 3 games by the commissioner's office today after he was ejected in the Finch Farm-Lexington yesterday at Super Duper Mart Stadium for arguing a called third strike.

"I was disciplined for making contact with an umpire and spraying him," the Four Leafs second baseman told BNN. "I guess I used too many words with Ps and Ss."

Hitting .270 to date, Bullets has 6 home runs and 41 RBIs. He has played in 62 games.

Had Slosh Nicklepenny not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Nicklepenny hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nerd Ragers.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Mystic Pines manager Justin Chops. "The effort was great."

30 June 2298 - BMU: Lifegivers Pull Off Thrilling 4-3 Win in Extras

Diamond City's Lacy Acclaimed Best SCA Hitter: It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Wayne Lacy has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Diamond City Swatters star can enjoy the numbers he put up in June, which have garnered him the nod as the South Charles Association Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .427 average with 12 home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This season Lacy has hit 23 home runs and posted a .370 batting average.

June's Top Starter is Pageturner: The #1 pitcher this past month in the North Charles Association was Matt Pageturner of the Finch Farm Four Leafs. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing June with a superb 5-0 record and a 2.59 ERA.

Feddersen has taken the mound for 11 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-0 record with a 5.40 ERA. The reliever has limited opposing batters to a .250 batting average.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse.

1 July 2298 - Fusion, Swatters Get 5-1 Win

Diamond City pitcher Tim Fusion did his part in helping his team beat the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 5-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Diamond City goes to 31-32, Roxbury to 17-46.

Fusion scattered 3 hits over 8 innings for the Swatters. With the win, Fusion moves to 8-1 on the year with 92 strikeouts.

Fusion attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."

1 July 2298 - Cats Deal Deathclaws 6-1 Defeat

The University Point Deathclaws went down to defeat to Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope and his Atom teammates. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the Cats. The Cats go to 25-38 with the win.

Atom needed the clutch hitting of Will Ashfire to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cats on top, 6-0. For the game, Ashfire had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Matt "Ace in the Hole" did a tremendous job," said Atom manager Ben Stoudt.

Fort Hagen starter All Day Acosta pitched well against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists at Hubris Comics Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-1. The win puts Fort Hagen at 33-30 this season.

Acosta contributed in the bottom of the fifth. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a run-scoring single to push the 2-1 adavantage. It was one at-bat among others that helped Fort Hagen get the win.

Seth Dungan led the Shroud offense, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Cozy Burmaster.

1 July 2298 - Party Boys Drop Assaultrons, 4-0, in BL Battle

The radstorm did not keep Nordhagen Beach and Easy Town from finishing their game.

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Julian Shed pitched a strong game against the Easy Town Assaultrons at Easy Town Field, leading the Party Boys to victory, 4-0. The victory gives Nordhagen Beach a record of 38-25.

Shed (6-7) did not allow a run on one hit with three walks and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings before the radstom delayed the game 52 minutes and forced Shed out. Jason Vaultick and Night Demon Archaki finished out the game once it resumed to preserve the shutout victory.

Mike Swift, the 20-year old catcher, had a direct impact on the outcome. Swift contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 1-0. The Boys ended up scoring a total of three runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Ryan Combs led all hitters, going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Taboo Richardson had the game's only extra-base hit, a 4th inning RBI double.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "It's usually not just one thing."

Even in the post-apocalypse, spambots be working. Lucky for us, Nate Howard has the Robotics Expert perk and can hack that bucket of bolts. Well, Nate can report the post anyway.

For context, there is a spambot post from "Mojae" immediately above this one that will hopefully be removed by a moderator.

Mojae, you just made the dynasty. Congrats.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Lacy said after the game.

Michael Fogcrawler, the top prospect, had a direct impact on the outcome. Fogcrawler contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 4-0. It was his 21st of the season, putting him one behind teammate Dustin Mart for the NCA lead.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Fogcrawler told the Nordhagen Beach News.

3 July 2298 - Mart Shows Off, Hits for Cycle

In an outing that will go down in the annals of baseball history, Nordhagen Beach first baseman Dustin Mart hit for the cycle today as the Party Boys marched to victory over the Easy Town Assaultrons, 15-3.

Mart collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. He added 5 RBI and 3 runs scored to help Nordhagen Beach take the Easy Town Field contest.

"It was the last thing on my mind, really," Mart said. "I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Even if I had wanted to, hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill anyway."

Dustin Mart struck out in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, walked in a run in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Chris Salazar in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

Mart is batting .277 this season in 65 games with 23 home runs, 54 RBIs and 58 runs scored. He has 73 hits in 264 at-bats. He leads the NCA in home runs.

Michael Fogcrawler also had a great game in the offensive explosion He finished 4 for 6 with a triple, a home run (to keep pace with Mart), two runs, and four RBI.

In the series, Nordhagen Beach's sweep of the Assaultrons now gives the Party Boys a six-game advantage. The Party Boys answered their six-game losing streak by going on a six-game winning streak. The Slog has also been hot, winning five straight to be four games back of Nordhagen Beach in the Brotherhood League.

3 July 2298 - 6-3 Win Gets Starlight to 36-29, Tie for 1st

The Starlight Lady Killers topped the Abernathy Adamantium by the score of 6-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Damani Beebe. Beebe went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Lady Killers on the day. The win gives Starlight a season record of 36-29 after the weekend sweep of the Adamantium. Both teams are now tied for the league lead.

Hubris McBride hit a 2-run triple off Brad Westing in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Lady Killers in front, 4-3. McBride had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 3.

"We did a lot of things right," said McBride.

3 July 2298 - Ninjas Drop Another One, 9-4

The Oberland T-51s topped the Egret Ninjas, 9-4, in South Charles Association action at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The game was highlighted by the performance of Oberland third baseman Jeremy Bugs. The 4th-place Ninjas have lost 4 straight games.

It could have been a different outcome for Oberland, had it not been for Curtis Slingshot, the 32-year old first baseman . Slingshot contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Oberland up, 6-3.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Bugs said.

3 July 2298 - Oldsink, Hancocks Finish Off Sweep of Gunners, 5-1

Goodneighbor starter John Oldsink pitched well against the Quincy Gunners at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. The Hancocks have now won 5 straight.

It was an impressive turn from the legendarily hard-working Oldsink, who tallied 6 strikeouts in 9 innings while allowing just 5 hits. Oldsink, who is tied for 6th in the SCA with a 101 strikeouts, goes to 8-4 on the year with 101 strikeouts.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Goodneighbor skipper Jeremy Whiteplate.

Goodneighbor now holds a 10-game league lead over second-place Quincy heading into the All-Star break.

3 July 2298 - Hooker, Silver Shroud Get 2-1 Win, Sweep Chemists

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud beat the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 2-1. Fort Hagen pitcher and Westford, Massachusetts, native Brent Hooker led the way, allowing just one run on one hit with four walks and five strikeouts in 8.0 innings.

Curtis Thriceshot pitched the ninth to earn his 23rd save, tops in the CBO. Sunshine Tidings, at 24-41, has lost 7 straight and looks to be out of the playoff race for now. Fort Hagen is just a game back of Starlight and Abernathy.

"We bring energy to every game," said losing manager Cozy Burmaster. "But it's got to translate into wins."

Sam Noob doubled twice for the Silver Shroud. Hooker helped his cause by hitting a triple in the fifth and scoring on an RBI single by Seth Dungan. That proved to be the game-winning score.

4 July 2298 - 4 July 2297 - Red, White, and Blue Week for the CBO and BMU

The Commonwealth major and minor leagues will celebrate Red, White, and Blue Week starting today. The big celebration is the first ever All-Star Game for the CBO taking place at The Great Green Jewel in Downtown Boston. Also, twelve stadiums across the BMU leagues will be decorated in red, white, and blue streamers and ribbons and tattered American flags.

This week is a celebration of the USA's founding 522 years ago on July 4, 1776. This land that we call the Commonwealth was actually one of 13 Commonwealths across the United States. The Boston area was part of the New England Commonwealth. And in our own celebration, we are not official, but we have been operating under our own United Commonwealth ever since Howard defrosted from Vault 111.

This week, all stadiums will serve hot dogs, even for stadiums where it is not a part of their typical menu. Some will have Lucky (Lukowski) Dogs, while some have Cram Dogs and others have Mongrel Dogs. Howard has said his version of the hot dog is not the same as it was in 2077, but it is a tasty treat he hopes will become popular at the ball parks. Some areas of the Commonwealth enjoyed the new food item last year and have made them a regular part of the ballpark experience.

Both The Great Green Jewel and this week's featured team, the C.I.T. Ruins, will have Red, White, and Blue Burgers available for those willing to try a delicious and colorful treat.

Happy Red, White, and Blue Week, CBO, BMU, and the Commonwealth!

4 July 2298 - Mart on the Attack, Player of the Week

At the age of 26, Dustin Mart might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Nordhagen Beach first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .500 batting average. For his efforts Mart collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 10 hits in 20 at-bats, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs last week in 5 games. His greatest accomplishment was hitting for the cycle yesterday. It was only the second time the cycle was accomplished in the CBO, both in the Brotherhood League. Boots Yellowhair of The Slog did it on 13 June 2296.

This season Mart has hit at a .277 clip with 54 RBIs, 23 home runs and 58 runs scored.

4 July 2298 - South Charles Association Picks Top Player

One of the league's most exciting young players, Jumper Hayes of the Goodneighbor Hancocks earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 18-year-old second baseman had a lofty .600 average (12-for-20), collecting 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

This season Hayes is hitting .350 with 5 home runs.

4 July 2298 - BMU: CA Names Burgess Best Batter

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Commonwealth Association, but last week Howie Burgess of the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Burgess rocked opposing pitching for a .429 average (6-for-14), 2 home runs and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.

This season Burgess is batting .320 with 5 home runs. His totals include 27 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

4 July 2298 - BMU: Commandos Baron Snags MA Player of the Week

So far in his young career, Steve Baron has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 19-year-old Haymarket Mall Commandos left fielder hit at a torrid .500 clip as he collected 8 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

In this current campaign Baron is hitting at a .335 clip with 8 home runs and 34 RBIs.

When you're hot, you're hot - Mart, Fogcrawler and all the Party Boys, in fact. And how quickly things can turn around; a nice winning streak coming on the heels of dropping 6 [7?] games in a row. Hope they can sustain the pace after the All-Star break. And God Bless The Red, White & Blue!

23) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (53.5, o)
24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (35.1, o)

Red
Fort Hagen (++10, TW - 5, LW - 15) - Just when the Silver Shroud looked like they were fading away in the Institute League, they surprised us all with getting hits when they needed hits and pitching when they needed pitching to go 5-0 on the week. Neither of their opponents are considered to be playoff contenders, but those are the types of teams that Fort Hagen should dominate. With a two-game sweep of Salem and a three-game league sweep of Sunshine Tidings, the Shroud are now just one game behind both Abernathy and Starlight for the division lead, thanks in part to the Lady Killers sweeping the Adamantium to make the jumbled mess atop the IL.

The Slog (++7, TW - 4, LW - 11) - The Ghouls also enjoyed a 5-0 week in the week of sweeps. Like Fort Hagen, The Slog dd not face the top teams of the North Charles Association, but they did handle business in two road sweeps over Concord and Finch Farm. With their strong week, and a weak week by Easy Town (see the Blue section), the Ghouls have now surged into second place, two games up on the Assaultrons. The 2296 champions out of the Wild Card spot may be up to the task to try for a second championship banner in Tarberry Field Forever.

White

Oberland (o, TW - 1, LW 1) - The T-51s started on top and look like they will finish there. At 50-15, they drop few games and figure to be a tough out in any three-game series, much less a five or seven-game affair. As the current leaders of the South Charles Association by five games over the Minutemen League's Goodneighbor Hancocks, Oberland is the probable #1 seed in the SCA playoffs.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606570899

Nordhagen Beach (+1, TW - 3, LW - 4) - The Party Boys are another team that went 5-0 on the week which included scoring 14, 23(!), 4, 8, and 15 in sweeps over the Chemists and Assaultrons. Nordhagen Beach now leads the NCA in runs scored (374) and runs allowed (273). On top of that, the Boys from the Beach may have made the most important trade yet of playoff contenders by dropping their third base project for third base production in Jon Hitman. The offense has responded since he arrived. Going into the All-Star break, Nordhagen Beach (40-25) now has a four-game lead over the next three teams.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1606570899

Blue

Lexington (--11, TW - 21, LW - 10) - The Synths thought they were getting into the playoff race, but then they suffered two bad sweeps to Finch Farm and Concord to go 0-5 on the week and drop into 5th place in the IL, six games back of Abernathy and Starlight.

Easy Town (--9, TW - 12, LW - 3) - In all fairness, the Assaultrons had a tough week ahead of them in facing both first place teams in the NCA, the Adamantium and Party Boys. However, to be a true championship contender, a team like Easy Town cannot go 0-5 in those two series, but they did. While Easy Town had been the CBO's best team in one-run games, both losses to the Adamantium were one-run losses. Nordhagen Beach, on the other hand, beat the Assaultrons by four, six, and twelve. It is worth noting that Easy Town is still 13-5 in one-run games, leading the CBO in wins in that category and only second in losses behind the T-51s (3).

Quincy (--5, TW - 10, LW - 5) - As opposed to the two teams above, the Gunners still hold the wildcard spot in the ML, but barely. After sweeping Vault 81 in two games, the Gunners then got swept in three games by league-leader Goodneighbor, pushing the Hancocks further away from the pack in what looks to now be a locked league for the league title. Quincy could not capitalize on being one of the best offenses in the league after losses of 4-3, 9-6, and 5-1.

5 July 2298 - A View from the BMU Postponed

We were originally scheduled to visit C.I.T. Ruins this week but that trip will be postponed to the final week of the BMU season because of the CBO All-Star Game. We will be back next week with a visit to Trinity Plaza in Downtown Boston.

5 July 2298 - Cats' Wiliams Required for BOS Mission

Atom Cats closer Freedom Williams will have to take an emergency leave of absence from the team after his services are needed for a covert Brotherhood of Steel mission.

While some CBO players are required to serve a one-year term, Williams is officially retired from active service but may be called on for missions from time to time. The Cats organization agreed to those terms when they drafted Williams in the 8th round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft.

Williams' duty time is expected to take about one month, so he should return in August. On the season, he is 1-1 with 11 saves and a 2.31 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched and 23 appearances.

5 July 2298 - Trade Processed: Goodneighbor-Fort Hagen

The Goodneighbor Hancocks traded 20-year-old minor league left fielder Josh Breggs to the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud yesterday, getting 35-year-old minor league starting pitcher Oscar Chekhemani in return.

In 45 games started with Trinity Plaza, Breggs is 61 for 174 (.351) with 11 doubles, six home runs, 43 runs, and 28 RBI.

Chekhamani started 11 games and appeared as a reliever once for C.I.T. Ruins. He was 5-0 with a 1.91 ERA and was considered a contender for the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Year Award before the trade.

Chekhamani spent his first two years in the CBO as a Silver Shroud starter before being demoted. In 40 starts in the CBO, he was 8-16 with a 8.31 ERA. He is expected to be promoted to the Goodneighbor roster following the All-Star break.

5 July 2298 - FHE Yao Guai Ship Paula to Goodneighbor

Trade winds have been blowing through FHE. This time, a deal has materialized between the Yao Guai and Goodneighbor Hancocks. According to sources inside the organization, FHE will ship 32-year-old RHP Bus Paula and 19-year-old minor league 3B Danny Vertibird to Goodneighbor for 21-year-old minor league RHP Pray Tell, 19-year-old minor league 3B Americ Boston, 24-year-old minor league 3B Mike Oldtimer and 19-year-old minor league SS Jayden Neo.

Paula has taken the mound for 21 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 3-2 record with a 2.45 ERA. The reliever has limited opposing batters to a .256 batting average.

This marks the second straight day that the Hancocks have made a trade for a pitcher. The Hancocks only trail Oberland for runs allowed in the South Charles Association. Though they are 2nd in Starters ERA (3.89), Goodneighbor is 8th in Bullpen ERA (4.87). They are hoping Paula will help that bullpen number improve.

5 July 2298 - BMU: Tattooman Leads T-60s to Win

The Fiddler's Green T-60s beat the Trinity Plaza Snipers, 9-7, at Memory Den Field. Fiddler's Green third baseman Johnny Tattooman had an outstanding performance. He went 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Devon Museum got the save, the 4th for him this season. Trinity Plaza, at 24-22, has lost 7 straight.

Tattooman had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Wally Hall, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the T-60s a 9-7 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Tattooman.

"There's a lot of fight left in this team," said Tattooman.

5 July 2298 - BMU: Gun Fu Walk It Off for 21st Win of Season

The Bunker Hill Gun Fu defeated the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks, 7-6. Doing his part was third baseman Bubbles Fleeker, who went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The Gun Fu now have a record of 21-25.

Shotgun McElveen was the walk-off hero for Bunker Hill. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Gun Fu third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"This place was rockin'," said McElveen.

5 July 2298 - BMU: Gipper, Sentry Bots Get 4-0 Win

Ronnie Gipper was locked and loaded, helping the Somerville Place Sentry Bots beat the Haymarket Mall Commandos, 4-0. Somerville Place raised its record to 23-23 with the win.

Gipper ran roughshod over the Haymarket Mall lineup. The left-hander allowed just 3 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 8. With the victory, he goes to 9-1 on the season.

Gipper told a Somerville Place News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

6 July 2298 - Atom Trades Parkman for Abernathy's Hawkins

The Atom Cats have released a statement confirming the trade of 32-year-old RHP Bob Parkman to the Abernathy Adamantium for 19-year-old minor league LF Ben Hawkins and a 2nd round draft pick. The deal was finalized today.

This season Parkman has been credited with 1 save. In 14 relief appearances and 14.2 innings he has a 2-0 won-lost mark, 5.52 ERA, and 15 strikeouts.

Hawkins started 35 of 43 games for Bunker Hill in left field. In 124 official at bats, he had 36 hits for a .290 average, nine doubles, two home runs, 25 walks, 16 runs, 20 RBI, and 27 strikeouts. He was successful in stealing 3 of 4 bases. Hawkins was an undrafted free agent earlier this season signed from a traveling team out of Pawtucket in Rhode Island. He is originally from Bellingham, which is on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border.

6 July 2298 - BMU: Kish K's 10 En Route to 2-0 Sentry Bots Win

The Somerville Place Sentry Bots picked up a win at Garden Terrace Field, taking down the Haymarket Mall Commandos, 2-0. Starting pitcher Josh Kish was a big reason why. With the win, Somerville Place pushed its record to 24-23.

The Commandos had little chance against Kish, who overpowered Haymarket Mall hitters and struck out 10.

"Josh made his pitches," said Somerville Place manager Limp Durn.

Pinch hitter Frankie O'Luck was the offensive hero for the Sentry Bots. With two on and two outs in the top of the ninth, O'Luck stroked a two-RBI double off Commandos reliever Batface Landry to deliver the game-wining hit.

Also Sanch was Haymarket Mall's starter. In 8.0 innings, he allowed only two hits and no earned runs to go with two walks and six strikeouts. Sanch's record remains 9-1 on the season.

6 July 2298 - BMU: Q Stars for Raybathers in 10-4 Win

The home crowd had a good time watching the Greentop Nursery Night People and Mystic Pines Raybathers get after it.

Mystic Pines third baseman Ruben Q had a 4-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Greentop Nursery Night People, 10-4. With the victory, the Raybathers upped their record to 28-19.

With Mystic Pines leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Q hit a fastball from Emmett Frito for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Raybathers ahead, 5-0.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Q.

6 July 2298 - BMU: Strongbacks Top Gun Fu in Extras, 6-4

Starting pitcher Bobby DeLaune pitched well enough to help the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks beat the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, 6-4. John McEntee recorded the save, his 1st. With the win, Outpost Zimonja upped its record to 24-23.

Outpost Zimonja used the timely hitting of Keagan Heat to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 3-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Strongbacks ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Heat, "and not try to do too much."

It's a little cross dynasty posting past due (I was supposed to post this in the November 2297 month, but, well, oops. I have been going through each page to try to see what information I may have introduced but have not recorded. Also, I am trying to reorganize for future postings. There are . . . events, assuming I make it a few years into the future. I am really liking the baseball of the CBO, though, so I am not as motivated to post all of the other storylines I have written on a bar napkin!

7 July 2298 - BMU: Dominant Performance by Collins in Corvega Win

The Corvega Flamers did just enough to secure a victory over the Galleria Robotics Experts, 2-1, at Corvega Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Jamie Collins. Mike Koenig sewed up the save, his 10th. The 5th-place Flamers raised their record to 21-27.

Collins, the winner, is now 4-5 after putting the clamps on the Galleria offense. In 8 innings of work, he gave up no runs on 6 hits, while collecting 9 Ks.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Collins said.

7 July 2298 - BMU: 1-6 Loss Extends Breakheart Banks Skid

Kyle Whitehead was a vital contributor to the 11-6 College Square victory over Breakheart Banks. The Nerd Ragers second baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The win was credited to Lost Dog Coleman in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Red de Leon took the loss. The victory gives College Square a record of 28-20. The Behemoths have now dropped seven straight to drop to 16-32.

Babs Rooth was 1 for 4 with a hit by pitch for College Square. The top prospect had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Red de Leon. It was his 18th RBI of the season.

"Another day, another win. On to the next one," Whitehead told the College Square Citizen.

7 July 2298 - BMU: With 5-2 Win, Commandos Improve to 34-14

The win gives Haymarket Mall a season record of 34-14, best in the BMU. The Jamaica Plain affiliate now has a magic number of 21 with an 8-game lead in the Downtown Boston League.

Hunter Wilde took Danny Bell deep in the bottom of the fourth. His 2-run home run put the Commandos on top, 2-1. In all, Wilde had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
