Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 3 August 2298 - BMU: Aquaboys Lose By a Run at Mass Pike, 4-3 The Eastlake Aquaboys got a superb performance from pitcher Andy Watsname. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Mass Pike. The Robobrains won the game, 4-3. Watsname threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Joker Griffith converted his 18th save in 19 tries. The 5th-place Robobrains go to 28-33. Had Raul Allstar not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Allstar hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Robobrains. "This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Allstar told the Mass Pike Today. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them." 3 August 2298 - BMU: Dominant Performance by Lidtke in Boston Common Win The home crowd had a good time watching the Haymarket Mall Commandos and Boston Common Lead Bellies get after it. The Boston Common Lead Bellies racked up a win at Hallucigen Stadium at Boston Common, bumping off the Haymarket Mall Commandos, 2-0. Bobby Lidtke, who started for Boston Common, pitched effectively for his team. Boston Common has now won 3 in a row. Lidtke, who dominated for Boston Common, earned the victory to move to 2-4. He was in control the whole game, scattering 4 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 13. Haymarket Mall batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally. Lidtke said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game. 3 August 2298 - Bloodbugs Paste Chemists, 13-2 The County Crossing Bloodbugs beat the Sunshine Tidings Chemists by a score of 13-2. left fielder Tom Mastodon deserved the lion's share of the credit. Mastodon went 4 for 5 with a home run, 2 triples, and a walk. He scored 4 times and drove in 4 for the Bloodbugs. The loss makes Sunshine Tidings 34-51. Josh Noggin, the slugging first baseman, had a direct impact on the outcome. Noggin contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put County Crossing up, 5-2. "We got our butts kicked," said Sunshine Tidings manager Cozy Burmaster. 3 August 2298 - Kawolski One-Hits Warwick, 5-0 Sheng Kawolski of the Oberland T-51s shut out the Warwick Mirelurks 5-0, stopped them on 1 hit and had 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing at The Homestead today. "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw," Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand said later. "When Sheng stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key." In 22 starts this year Kawolski has recorded a 11-2 record and a 2.65 ERA. 3 August 2298 - Islander Lifts Dwellers to 10-4 Triumph The Vault 81 Dwellers beat the Atom Cats, 10-4, at CURIE Inc. Field. Knud Bather took Sam Teflon deep in the bottom of the first. His 3-run home run put the Dwellers on top, 4-2. In all, Bather had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 4. "Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Bather. 3 August 2298 - Yao Guai End Hayes's Streak It was the best of both worlds for the FHE Yao Guai today at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS, as they defeated the Goodneighbor Hancocks 18-6 and also snapped Jumper Hayes's 24-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old Goodneighbor second baseman failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Hayes, we just wanted to win the game," said Yao Guai skipper David Meatcook. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Hayes frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." This season Hayes has hit at a .355 clip with 68 RBIs, 11 home runs and 74 runs scored. 3 August 2298 - Lexington Snaps Bugwing's Streak at 20 The Lexington Synths got more than the 4-3 victory at Tarberry Field Forever today -- they also put an end to the 20-game hitting streak of The Slog Ghouls third baseman Stoop Bugwing by holding him without a hit in 4 at-bats. After the game, Bugwing seemed more concerned with his team taking the loss than with the demise of his streak. "I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit," he said. "I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today." Bugwing is hitting .305 in 2298 with 49 RBIs and 7 home runs. 3 August 2298 - Lady Killers Drop 8-3 Decision The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys downed the Starlight Lady Killers, 8-3, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Bellingham rocked opposing pitching for a .474 average (9-for-19), 1 home run and 5 RBIs to come away with the award. Hitting .277 to date, Bellingham has 7 home runs and 31 RBIs. He has played in 62 games. 8 August 2298 - BMU: Lead Bellies Beak MA Hitter of the Week Blue Beak is respected by most Boston Common Lead Bellies fans for his no-frills style of play. The 20-year-old third baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .533 average (8-for-15) with 1 home run, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. This season in 56 games, Beak has hit at a .307 clip with 62 hits, 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 26 runs scored. 8 August 2298 - CBO News: Draft Pool Revealed Commonwealth Baseball Organization announced the 2298 amateur draft pool today, a scant 90 days in advance of the actual draft. For scouts, it is the toughest challenge of the season, trying to come up with an educated guess as to what a young man in his late teens or early twenties is going to do at the professional level a good five years down the road, at best. Some will go on gut instincts; some will rely on years of experience; but most will find it disconcerting how much their team is beholden to Lady Luck. Choose well and they are geniuses; choose poorly and they are unemployed. A complete rundown of the draft list is available upon request and will be available 90 days before the draft. The early favorites to be high picks are the following: 1. Ajani Peacock, 19 year-old 3B 2. Gunner Eyesocket, 19 year-old LF 3. Chase Doctorman, 18 year-old 1B 4. Tib Shorthop, 18 year-old SS 5. Scruffy Taguchi, 18 year-old RHP 6. Cy Thompson, 19 year-old 3B 7. Kasey Sloc, 19 year-old 1B 8. Mace Pageturner, 19 year-old CF 9. Cornelius Humperdink IV, 19 year-old CF 10. Otto Krappe, 18 year-old 2B The official OSA Mock Draft will be released on the day of the draft. |
Hey, I'm a ways behind, but still reading this! October-November is the busy season in my line of work, and it's the holidays. Didn't want you to think I'd lost interest, but I've not got anything actually productive to say about the content at this actual moment.

2298 Week 18 - The Week in Review, Part 1

Analysis
Oberland sits at the top spot for the 16th of 18 weeks, as they clinch a wildcard spot. That spot is irrelevant since the T-51s have a magic number of 5, meaning they need any combination of five wins or Diamond City losses to clinch the Railroad League. The magic number can only shrink, so we would assume the T-51s clinch the RL this week due to their 16-game lead with just 20 to go. Nordhagen Beach plunged down the Power Rankings this week from #2 to #6 after a 2-3 week, splitting with Starlight and losing at Salem. The Party Boys have also seen their division lead shrink to just three games over The Slog. The Brotherhood League is basically down to three teams, but the Boys still need to show that they are the class of the North Charles Association that they have looked to be for most of the season. The Institute League still looks to be the most interesting down the stretch, though Fort Hagen and Abernathy have pulled away from Starlight. The Lady Killers have the stigma of being slow finishers forever, or at least for now after the 2297 implosion. The Silver Shroud and Adamantium have not been killers themselves, but the Shroud are currently tied with the Ghouls and the Quincy Gunners for hottest teams in the CBO. Like the RL, the Minutemen League is virtually over, though the Goodneighbor Hancocks have a magic number of 12 over the current second-place team, the Warwick Mirelurks. Interestingly, looking at PAM's predictions, the Hancocks should currently hold a better record than Oberland, so the 2nd-best team in the CBO and the South Charles Association is actually playing BELOW their expectations. Something tells me that is a prediction of the future. We will see once the games are played, but Goodneighbor is probably the actual best team in the CBO despite being four games back of the T-51s in the race for the first seed. Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Oberland T-51s (136.9, o) 2) Goodneighbor Hancocks (129.7, +) 3) The Slog Ghouls (115.4, +) 4) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (114.3, ++) 5) Warwick Mirelurks (111.3, +) 6) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (110.5, --) 7) Quincy Gunners (105.2, +) 8) Easy Town Assaultrons (103.2, ++) 9) Abernathy Adamantium (101.3, --) 10) Diamond City Swatters (101.2, o) 11) University Point Deathclaws (101.2, -) 12) Starlight Lady Killers (91.1, +) 13) FHE Yao Guai (84.9, +) 14) Salem Witch Hats (81.8, ++) 15) Concord Radstags (79.9, --) 16) Vault 81 Dwellers (76.7, o) 17) Egret Ninjas (74.7, -) 18) Lexington Synths (74.7, o) 19) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (74.6, +) 20) Finch Farm Four Leafs (70.7, +) 21) County Crossing Bloodbugs (62.6, -) 22) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (58.5, o) 23) Atom Cats (51.4, o) 24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (47.1, o) |

Four-Week Wars
Below is the PAM-generated "Pennant Chase" with the teams realistically in the playoff race with their playoff chances. This is our first look at the Pennant Chase algorithm, so we have not yet decided what to do with it. Pictures of the leagues below with the standings and other information, including playoff chances and the Week 19 schedule for each contending team: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607869988 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607869988 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607869988 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607869993 Draft Pool Analysis Nate Howard does not wnt to project, but it is a fact that the current pool of players has been depleted from the initial class. For perspective, the initial class of players included the best of the best 16 and 17 year olds, who were not eligible for the Rookie Drafts. After the initial pool, Howard determined that only players of 18 or 19 years old would be eligible for the Rookie Draft. Players under 18 must play in the various youth leagues around the Commonwealth, and players 20 or above can sign as a free agent only after they have had a tryout through the CBO's scouting department, the OSA. Got all that? OK, so Howard won't state that the 2298 draft class is weak compared to their peers, but they are. Let us look at why. Let's take a look at the top prospect of the 2298 Rookie Draft, third baseman Ajani Peacock, who will probably be groomed to play shortstop in the Boston Minor Union, probably with the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers' Forest Grove Mole Rats if he goes #1 overall as expected. According to the OSA scouting, Peacock has a chance to be a good contact hitter with good speed and decent power, meaning he will probably bat at the top of the lineup but could become a decent third hitter. However, his overall potential stands at just 68 overall, which is not bad. In fact, he compares well to a current MVP candidate in the CBO who is the same age: Goodneighbor's Jumper Hayes. Hayes grades out by OSA as a 66 overall, but that is now, while Peacock has only potential he has not actually seen yet. Peacock was able to play in front of the OSA scouts a lot since he played in the Boston Youth Development League with the Pleasant Minigunners. The BYDL was formerly known as the Boston Youth Travel Teams but has since been organized. While he was not recruited to be in that first class, he has led his "senior" class in potential in the BYDL, batting an impressive .494 (43 for 87) in 21 games this past season. That included 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 45 runs, 28 RBI, and 31 stolen bases. So, Ajani Peacock looks like he can play. What about others? After Peacock, there are only three other players picked at plus-60 potential. In all, there are only 15 players graded as potential CBO starters, and none of them will probably see that time within the next three years. The three other plus-60 potential players are LF Gunner Eyesocket, SP Scruffy Taguchi, and 1B Chase Doctorman. SS Tib Shorthop, SP Deedee Martinson, 3B Cy Thompson, and 1B Kasey Sloc are all close to being at plus-60 and should be interesting prospects. However, only 15 players graded in the green for potential indicates that the CBO may have too many teams for not enough players. We will monitor how that goes in future seasons, but there is some concern. As a final note, there are a few other interesting prospects that include family connections to current CBO/BMU players, including OF Moses Church (57 potential), OF Mace Pageturner (53), C Don Erb (43), OF Bottlecap Go (37), Jumper Hayes' twin brother SS Hopper Hayes (35), Good Don Duck's brother 1B Clap Homestead (33), SP Dougy Beerholder (32), and 3B Tupp Islander (27). |

Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 9 August 2298 – Union's Hope Cathedral On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our twenty-first trip around the BMU, we are visiting the settlement in Cambridge that is mostly populated by employees of Kendall Hospital, Union's Hope Cathedral, also called Union Hope Cathedral, and now referred to more as just Union Hope. A Feral-Ghoul-Hating Ghoul Holy Man When Nate Howard first came upon Union Hope, he heard a scuffle happening inside the cathedral. There he saw three feral ghouls attacking another ghoul. Hearing the man, Father Gabe, calling for help, Nate dispatched of the ghouls. Instead of thanking, Nate, though, Father Gabe attacked, confusing Nate who thought his efforts would be appreciated. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607874304 Father Gabe Howard retreated and then negotiated. In time, Father Gabe believed Nate that he was not a raider who came to steal his goods but a wannabe hero of the wastes. Father Gabe trusted that Nate was trying to secure the area and make it free of raiders and ferals and mutants and whatever else may crawl out of the ground. From there, Nate and Father Gabe established the Union Hope mission to be a place where people could go for sanctuary regardless of their situations. Father Gabe established a hierarchy of people to clean up the place and clear out the graveyard so that more ferals would not congregate, provide security, produce food, work on repairing Kendall Hospital, and otherwise solidifying a large chunk of Cambridge. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607874285 Union's Hope Cathedral - 2287 Later, members of the Brotherhood of Steel joined the cause to help further secure the area, making the Union Hope Cathedral a place where people could go for relaxation and Kendall Hospital where people could go for repair. Kendall Hospital, the "Best Hospital of the Commonwealth" The largest employer of the Union Hope residents, Kendall Hospital is Cambridge's premier hospital. According to a terminal, "Once a hospital, after the Great War, this facility became a hiding point for The Railroad, known as Augusta safehouse. However, it was compromised by the Institute, sending in a squad of coursers and an unknown number of older models that somehow knew exactly where they were. They attempted to interrogate the safehouse's organizer, Blackbird, but he succumbed to his injuries before they could extract sufficient information. Once the Institute finished off the safehouse, raiders discovered them, and slaughtered every synth within. Those corpses that are not burned in the lobby bonfire were thrown to the deathclaw kept on the lowest floor." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607874285 Kendall Hospital - Union's Hope Cathedral is seen in the background Nate cleared the hospital, too, and was part of a Railroad crew that cleared out the former safehouse and started to put the hospital back in order. That made this area of Cambridge an anomaly in the Commonwealth before the Four Factions Treaty was signed in 2288 because the Railroad and Brotherhood of Steel worked together here starting in early 2288. In fact, testimony from Father Gabe and representatives of the Railroad and BoS helped in the Four Factions Treaty. Cambridge, the Smart City Nate hopes to reestablish the Commonwealth Institute of Technology (CIT), also once known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as a hotbed of future science technology. There is still a lot of work there, and we will cover the C.I.T. Ruins in a future edition of "The View from the BMU." However, the Kendall Hospital-Union Hope area is also an important point of Cambridge in addition to the future project that is the C.I.T. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607874285 Cambridge overview - 2287 According to a terminal about Cambridge, "Before the Great War, Cambridge was a city sprawling with college structures and old homes built before the 21st century. Home to the Commonwealth Institute of Technology, Cambridge was highly bent on academics and research, with buildings such as the Campus law offices, Greenetech Genetics, and Cambridge Polymer Labs. Serviced by College Square station, the district was connected to the rest of Boston through bridges over the Charles River. "The staff at the Cambridge Polymer Labs were working on power armor technology for the military when the bombs dropped. As the world descended into chaos, the director, Jon Elwood, was informed that the military could spare the resources to escort only essential personnel to safety. He kept the staff in the facility, passing the gunfire and explosions outside as a military drill in order to keep them calm to complete the project. "The lack of information and confinement in the lab prevented the staff from working. Eventually, Jon died from radiation exposure, and the staff met a similar fate, locked up in the lab to turn into feral ghouls. "During the war, a number of C.I.T. personnel survived by taking refuge in the underground level of the campus. In 2110, survivors and their descendants founded the Institute, an organization dedicated to furthering pre-War science. Following the invention of a teleportation device known as the molecular relay in the 2180s, the Institute was able to expand deeper underground and enhance the production of advanced robots known as synths." "At some point after the bombs fell, the Railroad set up a safe house known as Ticonderoga in Cambridge and began carrying out operations in the area. Soon after, in 2287, the Brotherhood of Steel's Recon Squad Gladius moved into the Cambridge Police Station, fortifying it. "Though all three factions were bitter enemies, they all unknowingly had a presence within blocks of each other. Adding to the danger in the area was the presence of both Gunners and raiders in the district." It should be added, though, that Nate helped make that area less dangerous and one of the more progressive areas in all of the Commonwealth, a great reason why we see the peace we see today in the Commonwealth. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607874304 The Union's Hope Cathedral Graveyard - 2287 - Now The Cathedral Diamond ballpark Now, Union Hope Cathedral is a central part of the peaceful Cambridge. The graveyard that was cleared in 2287 became small farms. Now, however, the old graveyard has been repurposed into the Union Hope Lifegivers' ballpark, The Cathedral Diamond. |

"I try to not think too much," said Burton. 9 August 2298 - Ghouls Win Nail-Biter, 1-0, in 20 Innings The The Slog Ghouls defeated the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 1-0, in North Charles Association action at Hubris Comics Park. The Slog pitcher David Kiwi had a standout performance. The victory gives The Slog a record of 53-36. Kiwi gave The Slog a solid start. The left-hander allowed no runs on 5 hits over 9 innings. "It was a test of wills," said Mack O'Shea, the The Slog skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win." For the game, Adams had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats. "It was a solid team effort," said Driftwood after the game. 9 August 2298 - Party Boys Top Lady Killers, 5-1, Behind Arthur Nordhagen Beach Party Boys pitcher Chet Arthur was in fine form, leading his team past the Starlight Lady Killers, 5-1. *Note: I had to correct an OOTP-generated error about the Atom Cats never making the playoffs below. I believe this will be a problem in future years when I cannot remember who was in and who was out. The Slog made the playoffs as a wildcard and won it all. Let me check their team histories.
Ah, I see. Since the playoffs were set through an association instead of within a league, only the league winners are recorded in the Champion category, not the CBO playoffs--that is in the association history. There is nothing marked in the Playoffs category. That should change for the 2298 season. Extra note: I don't know why a negative balance shows. I have financials turned off. I may have simmed a day or two, though, before turning them off. The attendance numbers are off, too, but I haven't messed with the attendance figures. I may need to do that in the offseason. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607960277 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507 Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 10 August 2298 - Atom Out of Time, Out of Playoffs There will be no late-season playoff surge for the Atom Cats, who were officially eliminated from postseason contention today. That makes them the second team in the CBO eliminated from the playoffs after Roxbury officially exited last weekend. This is the 2nd time in a row that the Cats have missed the playoffs. They advanced as a wildcard in the 2296 season. 10 August 2298 - BMU: Behemoths Win at Union Hope, 10-6 The 10-6 Breakheart Banks win over Union Hope was due largely to Hawk Callaway. The Behemoths third baseman went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The victory puts Breakheart Banks at 26-38. Callaway had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the sixth, when he hit a run-scoring single. The Behemoths went on to win. "We'll enjoy this win," said Callaway. "But there's more we hope to accomplish." 10 August 2298 - BMU: Dominant Performance by Brenner in Galleria Win Galleria beat Bunker Hill on the strength of starter Jamie Brenner's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 8-0. Galleria, at 40-24, is 4― games up in the Commonwealth Association Dark Hollow Pond League. Brenner lasted 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits. The Galleria right-hander is now 2-0. "We've got a great group of guys," Brenner said, "and we're having fun right now." 10 August 2298 - BMU: T-60s Upend Cannibals, 8-3 Greenetech Genetics Park was the site for Massachusetts Association action featuring the Charles View Cannibals and Fiddler's Green T-60s. The Fiddler's Green T-60s defeated the Charles View Cannibals, 8-3. Doing his part was catcher Toad Harris, who was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Joe Bargas got the win, improving to 2-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. With Fiddler's Green leading 3-0 in the top of the third, Harris hit a 2-run single off Charles View hurler Wearya Going. It was the 32nd hit of the season for Harris and put his team ahead, 5-0. "We need to keep playing good baseball," Harris told the Fiddler's Green Citizen. With the win, Fiddler's Green upped its record to 32-32. 10 August 2298 - Big Day for Tostado: Swats 5 Hits There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day. Crooked Tostado is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-5 against the Salem Witch Hats at Vim! Park of Salem today. The monster effort from the 21-year-old right fielder helped the Lexington Synths take the win, 6-3. "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Witch Hats manager Proper Lighthouse. "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today." Crooked Tostado hit a solo-shot off Roberto Gonzales in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th. In this current campaign Tostado is hitting at a .257 clip with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs. 10 August 2298 - Trifecta of Home Runs for Castillo Prof Castillo was in a home run mode today at Gwinnett Brewery Park. The Oberland left fielder massacred Deathclaws pitching, cracking out three home runs and going 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. But this sensational performance didn't really matter. University Point won the ballgame 8-4 despite the three homers. "I wish a big 'W' had come with this," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but the bottom line is whether you win or lose." Nonetheless, Castillo will now have a place in the league record book, tying the South Charles Association and CBO record for home runs in one game. "I guess when you're hot, you're hot," he said. "I'm not going up there trying to hit home runs. I put the good part of the bat on it and luckily three of them went out today." Prof Castillo struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Adam Froggatt in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Adam Froggatt in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Adam Froggatt in the 8th and flied out in the 9th. Presently Castillo is batting .316 with 118 hits and 21 home runs. He has knocked in 68 runs and scored 72 times. 10 August 2298 - Ashfire Excels, But Ninjas Win Atom first baseman Will Ashfire was sensational. He went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Egret beat the Cats, 7-4. Nick Poppa, the winning pitcher, is now 9-11. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 2. The Cats, now 31-59, have lost 6 in a row. Crops Gerdenheimer, who is on pace for 79 RBI this season, contributed to the Egret win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 4 runs batted in. "The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Gerdenheimer told the Egret Herald. 10 August 2298 - Lady Killers Get 9-6 Win Versus Nordhagen Beach Starlight right fielder Damani Beebe had a 4-RBI performance, which helped his team down the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 9-6. Larry Undertaker earned his 25th save in 28 chances. With the win, Starlight pushed its record to 47-43. The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fifth when Beebe, who is on pace for 67 RBI this season, hit a 2-run single. It propelled the Lady Killers into the lead, 3-2. "You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Beebe told the Starlight Times. The Killers added five more runs in the 8th and the Boys answered with four in the 9th, but those four just were not enough. Tommy Beach (12-5) was credited with the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings. 10 August 2298 - Silver Shroud Knock Off Ghouls, 7-5 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud bested the The Slog Ghouls by a score of 7-5, with third baseman Micah Morals getting the main credit. On the day, Morals went 3-3 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Silver Shroud. The win gives Fort Hagen a season record of 52-38. With Fort Hagen leading 2-1 in the bottom of the first, Morals hit a curveball from Tyler Storts for a 2-run double. It was his 21st double of the season and put the Silver Shroud ahead, 4-1. "Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Morals told the Fort Hagen Bulletin. |

Josh Warner picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Kitty Steppe was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Lifegivers upped their record to 34-31. The Lifegivers got an important contribution from shortstop Frank Hermit, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a 1-2 curveball into right for a run-scoring double. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Lifegivers ahead, 6-4. "We maximized our offense today," said Union Hope skipper Greg Tannenbaum. "That makes everyone's life easier." 11 August 2298 - BMU: Hawkins Slugs Rayguns to 12-8 Win A good performance from left fielder Ben Hawkins helped the Cabot House Rayguns defeat the Eastlake Aquaboys, 12-8. Hawkins went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 7 for the Rayguns. The win gives Cabot House a season record of 35-30. The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Steve Mech came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Eastlake pitcher Homie Foster, he hit a 0-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cabot House on top, 9-8. "Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Hawkins. "Those qualities define our team." 11 August 2298 - BMU: Hughey Hits 2 home runs in Snipers Win The Trinity Plaza Snipers bested the Natick Banks Big Leaguers by a score of 8-4, with center fielder Bobby Hughey getting the main credit. On the day, Hughey hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Snipers. Josh Dude, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. Trinity Plaza used a well-timed hit by Jared Tech to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Snipers ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important. "We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Tech said after the game. 11 August 2298 - Mole Rats Top Commandos, 3-0, Behind Poole Left-hander Whokill Poole mesmerized the Haymarket Mall Commandos while leading the Forest Grove Mole Rats to a 3-0 victory. He kept Haymarket Mall hitters off-balance, while giving the Mole Rats 8 quality innings. Poole threw 139 pitches, allowing 1 hit and striking out 11. "Nervous? No," said Poole. "It was my time to shine." |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 12 August 2298 - BMU Playoff Race Nineteen weeks are in the books in the BMU, and the playoff chase is getting clearer with just three weeks and 11 games to play. Only four teams make the playoffs, each league winner. The league winners of the Commonwealth Association will face off in one playoff semifinal series, while the league winners of the Massachusetts Association will face off in the other semifinal series. The winners of each association will then face off in a best-of-five championship, the Boston Minor Series. Seven teams have been eliminated: Breakheart Banks and Malden of the Dark Hollow Pond League; Bunker Hill of the Cambridge League; Postal Square and Charles View of the Downtown Boston League; and Forest Grove and Mass Pike of the Glowing Sea League. Natick Banks of the Glowing Sea League is most likely to clinch its league first with a seven-game lead and a magic number of 5. Below are PAM's odds to make the playoffs in each league with only contenders listed. SInce we cut off the decimal at one place, there were roundings for the results. For example, the Big Leaguers actually only have a 99.998994282364% chance to win their league. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607963096 12 August 2298 - Silver Shroud Lick Lady Killers, 14-1 A good performance from third baseman Micah Morals helped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud defeat the Starlight Lady Killers, 14-1. Morals was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 for the Silver Shroud. The winning pitcher was Derek Green. He's now 13-9. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits for the Silver Shroud. With the win, Fort Hagen pushed its record to 53-38, while the Lady Killers fall six games back in the wildcard race. Paul Grog, the 26-year old catcher, had a direct impact on the outcome. Grog contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Fort Hagen up, 4-0. "I like our moxie," said Silver Shroud manager Mark Andersen. 12 August 2298 - Driftwood Goes Wild, But Mirelurks Win David Driftwood had a good game, but he could not keep the Quincy Gunners from falling, 16-7, to the Warwick Mirelurks at The Stone House. The Quincy right fielder was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice in the loss. Warwick reliever Brian Bridges was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Matt Ranger (10-6) took the loss. The winning streak has now reached 6 games for Warwick, putting them three up on Quincy and University Point for the Minutemen League wildcard race. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Joe "Whiskey" Hagen? The Warwick left fielder had a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Mirelurks on top, 6-3. For the game, Hagen had 1 double and 2 singles in 6 at-bats. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Hagen. 12 August 2298 - Schmidt Propels Yao Guai to 14-8 Win Pistol Schmidt helped his team muscle past the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 14-8. In the game, the FHE third baseman was 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The win was credited to Loop Bikameal in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Beachboy Nut took the loss. The Knuckle Punchers, now 25-66, have lost 5 in a row. It could have been a different outcome for FHE, had it not been for Tyler Shoemaker, the top prospect . Shoemaker contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put FHE up, 3-0. "I just tried to make good contact," said Schmidt. 12 August 2298 - Party Boys Win, 7-2, Versus Ghouls, Now 4 Up Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Julian Shed kept the The Slog Ghouls hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 7-2 win. The winning pitcher was Shed, now 11-7. He tossed 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. The victory gives Nordhagen Beach a record of 57-34 and a four-game lead over the defending league champions in the BL race. The Party Boys picked up the win with a combination of good hitting and good pitching. Michael Fogcrawler was the best hitter for the Boys. He was 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, his 25th of the season, a run, and two RBI. Taboo Richardson hit his 13th homer of the season. Shed said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together." 12 August 2298 - County Crossing and Jamaica Plain Go Bye-Bye Two more teams were eliminated from the playoffs today when the County Crossing Bloodbugs of the Brotherhood League and the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets of the Minutemen League lost today. They now join Atom and Roxbury in preparing for the 2298 Rookie Draft. The Bloodbugs were 9-5 victims to Easy Town, the third-place team in the BL. The Red Rockets succumbed to University Point, which is tied for third place in the ML, 1-0. Jamaica Plain has a more bitter pill to swallow for their season. PAM's preseason prediction had them finishing 58-50 and outpacing Goodneighbor (currently 1st) and Warwick (currently 2nd) for the ML wildcard. PAM predicted Quincy to win the league. One of the key contributors was supposed to be David Seaweed, who PAM predicted would battle with Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman for the South Charles Association MVP. While Seaweed is doing OK this season, .302/17/74, he is nowhere near MVP-level production. In fact, he probably will not be his own team's MVP, which looks like it will be CF Hid Matsumoto. In addition to Seaweed, PAM predicted Chris Teddybear to win the Pitcher of the Year award. Instead, he is only 8-10 with a 4.99 ERA in 23 starts. While those numbers are not absolutely terrible, Teddybear is the ace of the SCA's 10th best staff. |

Boston HS. Bryan Assman was one of the standouts. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Goodneighbor is now riding a 3-game win streak. Goodneighbor won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With no outs and Jake Williams on the mound for Atom, right fielder Good Don Duck hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Hancocks fans to their feet. "We got the victory," said Duck. "That's all that matters at the end of the day." 13 August 2298 - Lexington Befuddled by Bertha in 8-0 Whitewash In an impressive outing, Tony Bertha whitewashed the Lexington Synths 8-0. "I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Bertha, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion. "It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took." The Sunshine Tidings hurler held Lexington scoreless, allowed 4 hits, chalked up 6 strikeouts and yielded 3 walks. This season Bertha has worked 155 innings with 115 strikeouts en route to a 9-11 record and a 3.89 ERA. Frank Corsica was 3 for 3 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI in the game. With the win, the Chemists have now surpassed Lexington for 5th place in the Institute League. 13 August 2298 - Knuckle Punchers Stumble Again, Lose, 13-8 The FHE Yao Guai powered past the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 13-8, at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. Hose Wallcrawler was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3, to lead the charge. Roxbury now has a 6-game losing streak. The Yao Guai got a big hit from second baseman Elijah Horne. In the top of the fifth, Horne pounded a 2-run triple to right-center. His 3rd triple of the season put the Yao Guai ahead, 8-6. Wallcrawler told the FHE Daily: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer." 13 August 2298 - Party Boys Hang 6-3 Loss on Ghouls, Clinch Series The 6-3 Nordhagen Beach win over The Slog was due largely to Michael Fogcrawler. The Party Boys left fielder went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Derek Gist, the winner, goes to 8-1. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts over 7 innings. The North Charles Association Brotherhood League-leading Party Boys are 58-34, five up on the Ghouls in a must-win series for both teams. Nordhagen Beach took a 4-2 lead on Fogcrawler's 2nd triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which he hit off Edwin Mass in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Nordhagen Beach to the win. "I'm glad we can make our fans happy with a win," Fogcrawler told the Nordhagen Beach News. 13 August 2298 - Shroud Take Down Killers, 3-2, with Late Rally Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Starlight Lady Killers. The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud faced a tough opponent in Starlight pitcher Jonathan Newman, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Valentine Detective Agency Field by a final score of 3-2. Newman went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Curtis Thriceshot was credited with the save, his 32nd in 33 tries. Fort Hagen took a 3-2 lead on Jim Tiller's 47th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Tiller hit in the top of the ninth, left Starlight pitcher Larry Undertaker visibly frustrated. "At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Fort Hagen skipper Mark Andersen. The win for the Silver Shroud lifted their record to 54-38, now a game up on Abernathy for the Institute League lead and seven up on the Lady Killers with just 16 games to play. These two teams conclude their season series tomorrow at 1:05 PM. Fort Hagen is currently 7-4 in the matchup. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 14 August 2298 - Kawolski Stands Out in Oberland Shutout Today at Graygarden Park, Sheng Kawolski of the Oberland T-51s baffled Vault 81 Dwellers batters on 2 hits en route to a 2-0 shutout. The win clinched the Railroad League title for the T-51s for the third straight season. "He was able to keep hitters off-balance and got the ball down," said T-51s skipper Dirk Steadyhand about his starter's performance. Kawolski had 15 strikeouts and no walks in the game. He is the third player in the CBO with 15 strikeouts in a game this season, joining Mike Cartrette of Salem and Bruce Iddings of Goodneighbor. This year Kawolski has compiled a 12-3 mark with a 2.45 ERA. He leads the CBO in shutouts with 3. He is second in ERA behind Diamond City's Tim Fusion (16-4, 2.23). Special Notes: Sheng Kawolski ties the Oberland T-51s regular season game record for strikeouts with 14. Sheng Kawolski breakes the Oberland T-51s regular season game record for strikeouts with 15. Sheng Kawolski ties the SCA regular season game record for strikeouts with 15. 14 August 2298 - Yellowhair, Ghouls Too Much for Party Boys The 5-3 The Slog win over Nordhagen Beach was due in large part to Boots Yellowhair. The Ghouls right fielder went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Tiny Greene got the save, his 27th in 28 chances. The victory gives The Slog a record of 54-39, where the team necessarily avoided a sweep. The Ghouls are just two games up on Easy Town for the Brotherhood League wildcard spot. Yellowhair contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for The Slog in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Yellowhair took a curveball from Chet Arthur and stroked the home run to right-center. His 15th home run of the season allowed the Ghouls to leap in front, 4-2. Yellowhair told a The Slog Citizen reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win. 14 August 2298 - Stockton Leads Swatters to Win Jazz Stockton led Diamond City to a win over Egret. The final score was 10-6. The catcher collected 3 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. Diamond City now has a record of 50-43 with the win, but they watched as the Oberland T-51s clinched the RL title today. In the top of the first, Jeffrey Curatolo delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Diamond City first baseman hit a 2-run double, putting the Swatters in front, 10-6. "We took advantage of our opportunities," Curatolo told the Diamond City News. "It's as simple as that." 14 August 2298 - Fort Hagen Sunk by Starlight, 4-1, Still Hold IL Lead The Starlight Lady Killers got a stellar performance from pitcher City Moore, who handcuffed the Fort Hagen offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Valentine Detective Agency Field. In 7 innings, Moore surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Larry Undertaker was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 26 of 30 save opportunities. With the game tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the fifth, Moore had a key at-bat for Starlight. With a runner on 2nd, Moore hit a run-scoring single off Mike Cartrette, making the score 2-1, Lady Killers. Moore called the win "a team effort." With the win, Starlight upped its record to 48-45. The Killers trail second-place Abernathy by five games in the wildcard race with just 15 to play. 14 August 2298 - Hancocks Shut Out Cats, 5-0, Sweep Season Series 12-0 Goodneighbor Hancocks starter Steve Rocky pitched his team past the Atom Cats, 5-0. The current losing streak for Atom has reached 9 games. On the season, the Hancocks won 12 out of 12 times when facing the Cats. The Hancocks ran into trouble in the top of the fourth. The score was 1-0, Goodneighbor, with one out. Atom, with runners on 1st and 2nd, had Guru Bean at the plate. With a base hit, he could have changed the complexion of the game. Instead, he hit into a double play and the Hancocks went on to win. "Wow, we beat them all 12 times?" Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate asked. "I would say that is quite an accomplishment. You can't do better than that. And that is part of the reason why we're in first place and they're in last. The Hancocks leave the weekend with a 10-game lead on Warwick for the Minutemen League lead with just 15 games to play after the Mirelurks lost two of three to Quincy. Goodneighbor's magic number is now 6, which gives them a good chance to clinch the league next weekend. They are also just two games behind Oberland in the race for the top record in the CBO and SCA. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 15 August 2298 - Week's Top Player: Sunshine Tidings's Nukes At the age of 26, Amari Nukes might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Sunshine Tidings left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .650 batting average. For his efforts Nukes collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 13 hits in 20 at-bats, 1 home run and 5 RBIs last week in 5 games. This season Nukes is batting .394 with 17 home runs. He has scored 59 runs and driven in 74. 15 August 2298 - SCA Player of the Week Awarded Robbie Adams has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 21-year-old shortstop of the Quincy Gunners had a hot bat in the South Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Adams batted .550 with 11 hits in 20 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs. Posting a .262 batting average to date, Adams has 9 home runs and 56 RBIs. 15 August 2298 - BMU: Bellingham Picked Best Player It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Commonwealth Association, but last week Governor Bellingham of the Breakheart Banks Behemoths reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Bellingham rocked opposing pitching for a .545 average (6-for-11), 1 home run and 3 RBIs to come away with the award. Presently Bellingham is batting .289 and has collected 8 home runs, 34 RBIs, .357 OBP and scored 26 runs. 15 August 2298 - BMU: MA's Best Player, Hughey of Trinity Plaza So far in his young career, Bobby Hughey has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 19-year-old Trinity Plaza Snipers center fielder hit at a torrid .636 clip as he collected 7 hits in 11 at-bats, 3 home runs, 4 RBIs and 6 runs scored. Currently Hughey has 3 home runs and a .333 batting average. |

Analysis
Goodneighbor returns to the top of the Power Rankings after a 4-1 week when Oberland did just a little worse. The Party Boys returned to the third slot after getting an important series win over the second-place The Slog Ghouls. Roxbury moved out of dead last in the rankings this week after the Atom Cats were listless in getting swept on the season by the Hancocks. A few other teams bounced up and down the rankings, listed below. The Minutemen League Wildcard Threesome
The Minutemen League is shaping up to be the best end-of-season battle, at least for right now. With Warwick, Quincy, and University Point all within two games of each other, the team that has the best run down the stretch gets awarded with a playoff series at either Goodneighbor or Oberland. Still, once in the playoffs, that team has a chance to win it all, while the other two teams in the ML race can only eat Fancy Lads Snack Cakes and watch. Looking at the remaining schedules, let's look at the probabilities of success in their order in the standings. Warwick - 54-39 Remaining Schedule: 2 vs FHE 3 vs Goodneighbor 2 at Vault 81 3 at University Point 2 vs Vault 81 3 vs Jamaica Plain Estimated remaining record: 10-5 Estimated final record: 64-44 Estimated place: 2nd Analysis: The Mirelurks have the easiest remaining schedule with one matchup against Goodneighbor and one trip to University Point standing in their way. We expect them to continue their recent hot streak and barely take the wildcard spot by two games with a sweep of Jamaica Plain in the last weekend. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607967254 Quincy - 53-40 Remaining Schedule: 2 vs Diamond City 3 vs University Point 2 at Diamond City 3 at Goodneighbor 2 vs FHE 3 vs Goodneighbor Estimated remaining record: 7-8 Estimated final record: 60-48 Estimated place: 4th Analysis: The Gunners look to have the worst remaining draw with only one series remaining against a team with a losing record (FHE). They get Goodneighbor for six games, and that is a problem since the Hancocks are trying for the best record in the CBO. Diamond City is still trying to make the playoffs, so they want to win, and of course a playoffs battle with the Deathclaws next weekend will not be easy. We think the draw is just too tough for the Gunners to even finish with a winning record in their last 15. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607967254 University Point - 52-41 Remaining Schedule: 2 at Oberland 3 at Quincy 2 vs Egret 3 vs Warwick 2 at Roxbury 3 at Atom Estimated remaining record: 10-5 Estimated final record: 62-46 Estimated place: 3rd Analysis: Well, it's a rough start next week to be both at Oberland and Quincy. Still, if they can split with the T-51s and beat the Gunners in that rod series, only their matchup with Warwick will stand in their way to the wildcard. With three series versus teams with losing records--Egret, Roxbury, and Atom--the Claws need this week to determine if they can overtake the Mirelurks. They are also the team of the three that gets both of the other teams, meaning they can make their own success in low-scoring affairs. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1607967254 |
