Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 26 August 2298 - Cox Touches All Bases, Hits for Cycle Roxbury Knuckle Punchers center fielder Edward Cox had one of the best days of his career today when he hit for the cycle and paved the way for the Knuckle Punchers 13-9 win over the Vault 81 Dwellers at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. "Everything was just clicking today," he said. Cox shelled the Dwellers for 4 hits in 4 at-bats, collected 6 RBI and scored 2 runs. Edward Cox walked in the 2nd, hit a three-run triple in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Fillmore Hofmann in the 6th and doubled in the 8th. Currently Cox is batting .242 with 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 28 runs scored. 26 August 2298 - Machine Slugs Cats to 9-5 Win The Atom Cats topped the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets by a score of 9-5. Leading the way was catcher Garrett Machine. Machine hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Cats. Chris Leggman got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Old Buck Buchanan converted his 4th save in 5 tries. The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Machine delivered big-time for Atom, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Chris Teddybear. The game-changing hit put the Cats on top, 6-4. "We were able to get some things going offensively," said Machine. The win puts Atom at 36-65. 26 August 2298 - Arch Helps FHE Cruise to 12-3 Win The home crowd had a good time watching the Diamond City Swatters and FHE Yao Guai get after it. With center fielder Noah Arch leading the charge, the FHE Yao Guai defeated the Diamond City Swatters, 12-3, at BosCom Circle. Arch, who is tied for 3rd in the SCA in hits with 157, went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Danny Owens earned the win to go to 8-16. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 9 innings of work. Adam Crook hit a run-scoring double off Tyler Powers in the bottom of the second, which put the Yao Guai in front, 1-0. In addition to the double, Crook had 1 single, while going 2 for 5. "Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Crook. Diamond City, at 52-49, has lost 4 straight. 26 August 2298 - Pageturner Hot, Bloodbugs Cold Today was Matt Pageturner's turn in the rotation for the Finch Farm Four Leafs and he made the most of it, shutting out the County Crossing Bloodbugs on 6 hits. The 31-year-old right-hander led the Four Leafs to an easy 6-0 victory, allowing 1 walk and tallying 7 strikeouts. "I hope we miss him next time," County Crossing manager Biff Future said. "Pageturner certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds." Pageturner has a 12-12 season record so far. In 26 starts, he has fanned 126 batters in 185 innings with a 4.67 ERA. 26 August 2298 - Party Boys Upend Assaultrons, 11-1 Nordhagen Beach starter Chet Arthur clamped down on the Easy Town offense, while his team cruised to victory, 11-1. In 8 innings, Arthur surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 63-38 this season and drops their Magic Number to 3. Mike Swift, the 20-year old catcher, had a direct impact on the outcome. Swift contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 1-0. "I'm a bit of a clubhouse prankster," said Swift. "But it's all business when we're on the field." 26 August 2298 - Silver Shroud Top Adamantium, 5-4, in 11 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud beat the Abernathy Adamantium, 5-4, in 11 innings at Hubris Comics Park. Fort Hagen first baseman Jim Tiller had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Fort Hagen reliever Matt Demented, now 5-2. The loser was Kyle Hooch. The victory gives Fort Hagen a record of 56-45, tying them for first place in the Institute League with the Adamantium. The clutch hit was provided by Safety Langer. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring double off Kyle Hooch in the bottom of the 11th. "It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Langer said. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 27 August 2298 - Oldsink Fires 1-0 Shutout for Goodneighbor It wasn't easy but John Oldsink made it look that way. Oldsink silenced the Quincy Gunners, 1-0, in a Goodneighbor Hancocks triumph at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Oldsink said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 2 walks and 3 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." This year Oldsink has worked 203.1 innings with 149 strikeouts en route to a 15-5 record and a 4.03 ERA. 27 August 2298 - Hits Galore: Abern Drills 5 Hits in 18 Innings It was a good day for the T-51s at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina as they clipped the Egret Ninjas, 5-4, in 18 innings. It was a tremendous day for Jonathan Abern, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 5-for-9. "I don't know what to call that," the Oberland second baseman told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well." Abern grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, singled in the 12th, singled in the 13th, singled in the 15th and flied out in the 18th. This season Abern has banged out 118 hits in 344 at-bats for a .343 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .404 pace and his totals also include 45 RBIs and 57 runs scored. The dream of lifting a championship banner above the home field of the Egret Ninjas has been extinguished, at least for 2298. The club was formally eliminated from playoff contention today. Asked to comment on how he felt about the news, Ninjas manager Kip Bomb issued a one-word statement, which cannot be printed by BNN. This is the 3rd time in a row that the Ninjas have missed the playoffs. They have yet to make the playoffs in their history. 27 August 2298 - The Slog Roughed Up by Witch Hats Salem right fielder Chris Treestump made his presence felt in the 8-1 Witch Hats triumph over the The Slog Ghouls. Treestump belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Roberto Gonzales earned the win to go to 11-12. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 9 innings of work. The Slog is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 7 in a row, and now three games back of Easy Town. Salem took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Treestump hit a 2-run home run. His 21st home run of the season made the score 3-1, Salem. "We maximized our offense today," said Salem skipper Proper Lighthouse. "That makes everyone's life easier." 27 August 2298 - Mirelurks' 4-2 Win Puts Deathclaws on Brink The Warwick Mirelurks picked up a win at Gwinnett Brewery Park, knocking off the University Point Deathclaws, 4-2. Starting pitcher Dave Kovalenko was a big reason why. Sheffield Williams earned his 5th save in 6 chances. Warwick has now won 4 in a row, while University Point is on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs. Kovalenko was effective for Warwick, seldom allowing the Deathclaws to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 115 pitches over 9 innings. He limited University Point to just 1 run on 4 hits. "There's no quit in this team," said Mirelurks manager Old Man Langford. University Point needed to sweep this series to put themselves in the middle of the playoff run. Instead, after having lost the first two games of this series, the Deathclaws are now six back of the Mirelurks in the Minutemen League playoff race. To make the playoffs, the Deathclaws must win the rest, have Warwick lose the rest, and get some help from Quincy dropping enough games. 27 August 2298 - Yao Guai Creeps Closer to Swatters, Win 10-2 Elijah Horne impressed in the 10-2 FHE win over Diamond City. Horne, who is tied for 8th in the SCA in doubles with 34, was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Bow Rome got credit for the win, improving to 10-9. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings. The Swatters, now 52-50, have lost 5 straight and now lead the Yao Guai by only two games in the Railroad League wildcard race. The Yao Guai got a big at-bat from left fielder Adam Crook. For the game, Crook went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 8th home run of the season gave FHE a 4-0 lead. "It was full throttle on our side," said Horne. 27 August 2298 - Abernathy Beats Fort Hagen, 7-5, Retakes IL Lead Austin Engill had a 3-RBI game, during Abernathy's 7-5 triumph over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Engill contributed 2 singles and 1 home run to the cause. Kyle Hooch recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 3 for 4. Abernathy raised its record to 57-45 with the win, retaking the lead by a game over the Silver Shroud in the Institute League. Po Greenzone, the slugging left fielder, had a direct impact on the outcome. Greenzone contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Abernathy up, 3-0. "Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Engill told the Abernathy Herald. 27 August 2298 - Assaultrons Prevail, 5-3, Over Nordhagen Beach Easy Town starter Angel Waterdrink had a strong outing against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Easy Town Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Waterdrink, now 13-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The win elevated the Assaultrons to 59-43. Making an impact for Easy Town was second baseman Carlos Tophat. He drilled a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second. For the game, Tophat went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said Easy Town manager Graham Route. While the Assaultrons will still have a hard time catching up to the Party Boys for the Brotherhood League regular season title, they have anchored themselves into the second place slot in the league. They now lead The Slog by three games for the right to be the BL wildcard representative. A sense of relief and excitement washed over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys tonight as the club celebrated a playoff clinch despite the loss. "It's a good feeling to know you're going to be in the playoffs," said second baseman Brian Masterson. "Now we can concentrate on gearing ourselves towards winning a championship." A Sole Survivor Series win would be the 1st in team history, as well as clinching the BL sometime next week. Nordhagen Beach lost the SSS last season against Oberland. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski Spronk Hits 2 Home Runs in Witch Hats Win Witch Hats left fielder Tyler Spronk put his stamp on his team's 11-6 win over the The Slog Ghouls. Spronk hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for Salem in the contest. The Ghouls, now 56-47, have lost 8 straight, putting them on the edge of elimination from the playoffs after being swept by the fourth-place Witch Hats. The Witch Hats got a big at-bat from shortstop Dan Ackerman. For the game, Ackerman was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Salem a 4-2 lead. "The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Proper Lighthouse said. Millioncap Go of The Slog made this game the trifecta for the CBO Performance of the Day leaderboard. Go was 2 for 3 with two home runs, two walks, two runs, and three RBI. 28 August 2298 - Ghouls Woodard and Witch Hats Lynch Suspended for Fight Today at Tarberry Field Forever, C.T. Woodard and Ethan Lynch got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the The Slog Ghouls and Salem Witch Hats. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Tonight the league office notified the ballclubs that Woodard will have to sit out 3 while Lynch would be given a 7-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year Woodard has collected a .341 batting average to date with 145 hits in 425 at-bats, 73 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 84 times. He has played in 103 games. This season Lynch has compiled a 8-9 mark with a 5.04 ERA. 28 August 2298 - Yao Guai Win 5-4 Walk-Off, Sweep Swatters The FHE Yao Guai weathered an outstanding game by Diamond City third baseman Allen Bishop to topple the Swatters, 5-4, in 12 innings. Bishop was 3-6 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The current losing streak for Diamond City has reached 6 games, allowing Ya Guai to move to a game back in the Railroad League wildcard race. The clutch hit was provided by Noah Arch. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring single off Uncle Abe Feddersen in the bottom of the 12th. "It's nice to come out on top today," said Arch. 28 August 2298 - Tight Tilt Goes to Assaultrons, 1-0 Getting an impressive start from Smoker Caliman, Easy Town beat Nordhagen Beach by the score of 1-0. Caliman picked up the win for Easy Town, going 8 innings. He gave up no runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 15-3. Aaron Geneva notched his 36th save in 38 chances. Jarrett Metalbox, who leads the NCA in hits with 171, aided the Easy Town cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the first. For the game, the left fielder went 1 for 3. "We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Metalbox said after the game. The victory gives Easy Town a record of 60-43, which puts them three games back of the Party Boys for the Brotherhood League and four games up on The Slog for the wildcard spot. There are five games remaining in the regular season. 28 August 2298 - Walk-Off Seals 57th Victory for Silver Shroud Fort Hagen and Abernathy duked it out and the Silver Shroud came out victorious. The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the Abernathy Adamantium, 5-4, in North Charles Association action at Hubris Comics Park. The standout performance belonged to Fort Hagen pitcher and Cambridge, Massachusetts, native Derek Green. The triumph puts Fort Hagen at 57-46 for the season, tied with Abernathy for the Institute League lead with five games remaining. Jason Niederer was the walk-off hero for Fort Hagen. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Silver Shroud pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home. "Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Green told the Fort Hagen Bulletin. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 29 August 2298 - Star of the Week Selected in NCA Dan Ackerman demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Salem shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .550 average (11-for-20) with 4 home runs and 8 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. To date this year Ackerman is batting .301 with 9 home runs. 29 August 2298 - Assman Chosen #1 Player It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the South Charles Association, but last week Bryan Assman of the Goodneighbor Hancocks reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Assman rocked opposing pitching for a .471 average (8-for-17), 4 home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award. Assman is hitting .384 this year with 34 home runs, 99 RBIs and 109 runs scored. So far this year, Savelli is batting .332 with 3 home runs and 38 RBIs. 29 August 2298 - BMU: Why Week's #1 Player So far in his young career, Any Why has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 20-year-old Eastlake Aquaboys center fielder hit at a torrid .462 clip as he collected 6 hits in 13 at-bats, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Thus far this year Why has hit .213 with 5 home runs and 32 RBIs. 29 August 2298 - BMU: Nerd Ragers Get Past C.I.T. Ruins for 6-5 Win The Nerd Ragers grabbed a win, 6-5, at General Atomics Stadium at the Ruins, overcoming a fine effort from C.I.T. Ruins pitcher Brian Cox. Cox went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. The win belongs to Brian Young in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Mitch Revolver took the loss for C.I.T. Ruins. Muther Eckstein notched his 19th save in 22 chances. College Square used the timely hitting of Luis Equihua to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nerd Ragers on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer. "This was a good win for us," said Equihua. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal." Galleria improves to 43-30 with the win. They lead their league by 3 games over the Night People with three to play. Greentop Nursery must now win the last three to tie in the Dark Hollow Pond League and force a play-in game for the playoffs. Galleria used the timely hitting of Beer Harku to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Robotics Experts on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer. "Our team showed some gumption," said Weaver. "I like it." 29 August 2298 - BMU: Lifegivers Win, 7-1, Over Bunker Hill Union Hope Lifegivers pitcher Cody Graca was in fine form, leading his team past the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, 7-1. "I just tried to make good contact," said Tattooman. |

Analysis
Goodneighbor is red hot, jumping them back into the top spot after a 5-0 week. It also places the Hancocks just one win behind Oberland for the top playoff spot. Should the two teams finish the season with the same record, Goodneighbor gets the nod for the #1 seed. Some teams that needed a big week did not get it, most notably Diamond City which started the week with a five-game lead on FHE for the Railroad League lead but leaves it with just a one-game lead after an 0-5 week and a Yao Guai sweep. That drops the Swatters all the way to 16th in the Power Rankings. We will feature the Railroad League race below. Fort Hagen and Abernathy end the week exactly where they started it, both going an unimpressive 2-3. The Silver Shroud did win the weekend series, which can be some momentum going into the final five games of the season. What else? The Slog did the opposite of what we expected, losing all five this week as part of their current eight-game losing streak. That pushes them to #14, while Easy Town jumped up to #3 past Nordhagen Beach (#5). A few teams are still technically alive for the playoffs but may be out no later than Wednesday, the last day of the month: The Slog, Starlight, Concord, Quincy, and University Point. Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (137.8, +) 2) Oberland T-51s (134.6, -) 3) Easy Town Assaultrons (112.9, +) 4) Warwick Mirelurks (109.6, +) 5) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (108.1, -) 6) Quincy Gunners (98.4, -) 7) University Point Deathclaws (96.9, +) 8) Abernathy Adamantium (96.6, -) 9) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (96.6, +) 10) FHE Yao Guai (96.1, ++) 11) Concord Radstags (92.9, -) 12) Starlight Lady Killers (91.6, +) 13) Salem Witch Hats (88.9, +) 14) The Slog Ghouls (83.9, --) 15) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (81.1, ++) 16) Diamond City Swatters (78.9, --) 17) Finch Farm Four Leafs (77.9, +) 18) County Crossing Bloodbugs (76.4, ++) 19) Lexington Synths (75.1, +) 20) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (74.1, +) 21) Egret Ninjas (70.6, --) 22) Vault 81 Dwellers (70.1, --) 23) Atom Cats (60.9, o) 24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (43.9, o) Fast Train to Nowhere and an EaRLy Playoff Exit Playing for the right to meet either Oberland or Goodneighbor in the first round of the playoffs, the Railroad League wildcard race between Diamond City (52-51) and FHE (51-52) comes down to the last week. The Swatters have struggled suddenly, putting into question their moxy, while the Yao Guai have been surging towards that potential wildcard spot. For FHE, winning the wildcard spot would mark their return to the playoffs from 2296, while the Swatters had finished 5th and 6th in the league in their first two seasons. Diamond City - 52-51 Remaining Schedule: 2 vs Jamaica Plain (2-0) 3 vs Roxbury (2-1) Estimated remaining record: 4-1 Estimated final record: 56-52 Estimated place: 2nd Analysis: If there was a better draw to have, we cannot find it. The Swatters should have been cruising to the wildcard, but here they are on a six-game losing streak. Should they find a way to put their losing streak behind them, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury are tonics to their troubles. The Swatters have split the season series with the Red Rockets so far, but they have won 8 of 9 against the Knuckle Punchers. We think they will have a 4-1 week, which guarantees at least a tie for the Railroad League wildcard slot. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608388791 FHE - 51-52 Remaining Schedule: 2 at Quincy (0-2) 3 at Vault 81 (3-0) Estimated remaining record: 3-2 Estimated final record: 54-54 Estimated place: 3rd Analysis: One series may make all the difference, though the Yao Guai may have more fight in them than the Minutemen League's Quincy Gunners. Still, Quincy is the better team and trying to earn their own playoff spot. Therefore, think of that mid-week series as a playoff series in its own right. Should the Yao Guai find a way to win that series, then they will have a much better chance. Diamond City is cold, so that could also play to FHE's advantage. In the end, though, we think Diamond City recovers and wins. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608388791 |

On topic: Looks like the end of the season is producing some absolute classic games. You know my favorite teams, but there's several others in the running I can't help but feel some interest in, such as the Hancocks. Knowing the story of Goodneighbor, it's a settlement that could use something good happening to it.
Also as I was catching up, I was happy to see the Swatters in such good position, but I have to admit, if they blow it now, that'd be the most on-brand thing for Moe ever  |

Due to terminal limitations on text content and images attached, this story runs from Tuesday through Thursday. Thankfully, the proprietor of this dynasty has truncated the contents into two entries (split into Parts 1 and 3 together and then Part 2 in the next entry) with the maximum of five images allowed per entry still intact. The proprietor also asks that you forgive the text wall below but hope it gives you some insight into one of the factions and what it was doing in 2287-2288 when the "reign of Nate Howard" began. If there is interest, perhaps some more of the Fallout lore can come to light in the future.
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507 Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 30 August 2298 – C.I.T. Ruins On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our twenty-fourth and final trip around the BMU, we are going to an emblem of Cambridge and the Boston area, the famed university, the Commonwealth Institute of Technology (C.I.T. or CIT). 1. The History of the University for the Smartest People in the World Boston Public Library and the Will Hunting Memorial Library at CIT both have a lot of information available on the CIT. As a bonus, both have a series of physical books, as well as some terminal entries, so I was able to learn a lot about this university. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608472406 According to books and terminal entries, CIT, originally known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, was founded on April 10, 1861, by University of Virginia professor William Barton Rogers. Rogers "wanted to establish an institution to address rapid scientific and technological advances. He did not wish to found a professional school, but a combination with elements of both professional and liberal education, proposing that: 'The true and only practicable object of a polytechnic school is, as I conceive, the teaching, not of the minute details and manipulations of the arts, which can be done only in the workshop, but the inculcation of those scientific principles which form the basis and explanation of them, and along with this, a full and methodical review of all their leading processes and operations in connection with physical laws.'" https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608472406 In 1969, the United States of America changed to commonwealths. According to terminal entries, "The thirteen commonwealths of the United States were created in 1969, as a new intermediate level of oversight between the state and federal governments. States and commonwealths were both used to describe regions and governmental entities. "Those 13 commonwealths, which replaced states, were: Columbia, East Central, Eastern, Four States, Gulf, Great Midwest, New England*, Northern, Northwest, Plains, Southeast, Southwest, and Texas. In 2076, America also added a 14th commonwealth, the Canada Commonwealth." * The New England Commonwealth was made up of six former states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. In Massachusetts, we usually referred to ourselves as just the Commonwealth, even before the change to the American government. In Will Hunting's "A 'Good' 125-Year History of Math, Love, and the C.I.T.," he goes into great detail about the change of the university's name to reflect the change in the American government. According to Hunting, "The decision to change the name defined Massachusetts like no other. Many in the community thought that CIT would be bastardized by letting the 'unkempt Yankees' into the college. There was much debate, but New England Commonwealth governor Michael Dukakis, who was a Boston man himself, urged the change. . . . On January 13, 1977, Governor Dukakis signed the executive order to change the name from the [MIT] to the [CIT]." 3. The Ruins As part of the restoration project, the CIT is on the verge of being a full university again. While settlers have occupied the Rotunda and other wings of the CIT, the Institute has made it clear that the future of the CIT is to no longer be in ruins but to be repaired and built into a full technology instititute. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608472406 In cooperation with other factions, the Institute has also worked to secure the area of Cambridge by helping to establish businesses on the top side while the Institute itself remains underground. Repairing the CIT building has proven problematic, but the Institute and Brotherhood of Steel have teamed up to build large construction machines, as well as employing multiple Gen-1 and Gen-2 synths, to repair the building. Once those are in place, current residents of the CIT buildings will need to relocate to the surrounding Cambridge apartment complexes. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608472461 Most of the people who are residents are involved in reparation and construction with some dealing in business and trade. Most of the food products come from places like Graygarden, Abernathy Farm, and Oberland Station. With the major roadway along the Charles River in front of the CIT, the CIT is a major trade thoroughfare. It is also the major passage for the west-east Corvega connections for the traveling CBO teams on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, so there are several market days set up during those times to help small businesses make more caps. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608472461 The CIT Ruins Refractors, the current minor league affiliate of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, play in front of the Ruins, but there has been talk of moving them behind the college after the full restoration begins. |

In our twenty-fourth and final trip around the BMU, we are going to an emblem of Cambridge and the Boston area, the famed university, the Commonwealth Institute of Technology (C.I.T. or CIT). 2. What Lies Beneath https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608473071 The rest of my research brought me deep underground to the location of the Institute. Founded officially after the bombs destroyed the world, the Institute is a technological wonder. According to Institute terminals, "The Institute formed out of the ashes of what was once known as the Commonwealth Institute of Technology (CIT). While the college itself was completely destroyed in the flames of the Great War in 2077, the science staff took refuge in the underground of the Institute and carved out subterranean habitat for themselves. The Institute was formally founded in 2110, as the children of the original survivors dug into the earth and built increasingly sophisticated habitats and laboratories, starting an ongoing process of expanding the Institute's facilities and infrastructure. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608473071 Institute Relay - Until the CIT Ruins are restored and elevators to the topside can be built, everyone who enters and exits the Institute teleports here. "Isolated from the outside world, the scientists continued their work, disregarding the mayhem and destruction occurring outside of its grounds. As they worked on creating synths, they attempted to work peacefully with the people of the Commonwealth using first generation synths as well as help create a new stabilized government, but mutual mistrust and infighting ended that relationship quickly and they returned to isolation. Eventually, the scientists have utterly put ubiquitous pre-War technology to shame, to the point where they believed that wastelanders would be unlikely to understand the sheer scope of the Institute's achievement, such as the creation of the molecular relay (teleporter) in the 2180s, which resulted in the Institute sealing itself off from the surface permanently, and the development of synths. For decades, the first and second generation synths were the most visible part of the Institute's operations, scavenging for materials and performing experiments on the wasteland. The scientists, sealed away in their utopian society, did not concern themselves with the plight of the surface or the effect their actions had on the surface. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608473071 Institute Atrium - The beauty and peace of mind are addictive "However, the Institute eventually reached the limits of the synth technology that underpinned their society. Although powerful, the second generation synth was an inherently limited, mechanical platform. To overcome the limitations of metal synthetic materials, the Institute endeavored to create synthetic flesh, with the first research initiative beginning in 2178. Under the auspices of Doctor Frederick, FEV samples served as the starting point for the new, organic synthetic program despite the objections of some members of BioScience. Both women and men were abducted from the Commonwealth and submerged in the Institute's modified FEV, their mutations carefully tracked and extensively investigated. Successful mutations would be monitored to ensure survivability, then tagged and discarded. Research ground to a halt in March 2224, as the research team concluded that the organic synth project could not proceed despite perfecting two FEV strains for the project. Radiation-induced hereditary damage proved too much of an obstacle. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608473092 Institute Living Quarters - Scientists of the Institute live in luxury with a balcony to read, listen to music, and drink the night away. "The solution came in 2227, with to the acquisition of Shaun Howard by Kellogg and his undamaged pre-War genetic code. The organic synth project was spun off from the FEV research initiative, and his DNA became the basis of the third generation synths. The infant Shaun became Father to a whole family of engineered synthetic beings. In 2229, a defective synth caused the Broken Mask Incident, vilifying the Institute in the eyes of the Commonwealth, and causing no small amount of internal problems for the Institute, as he was sent out without proper testing or approval. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1608473092 Institute BioScience - While some of the experiments are a secret, we were allowed to take a photo of the gorilla exhibit. These are real, synthetic gorillas. Cats and dogs are also bred here with the thought that the Commonwealth will be made up of naturally reproduced domestic animals in the future. Nate Howard's former dog companion, Dogmeat (RIP), was cloned here. "The FEV research effort continued for several more decades, despite producing no useful data; except for manufacturing more super mutants for the surface to contend with. When Brian Virgil succeeded Dr. Syverson as head of the project in April 2286, it became evident that FEV experimentation ran its course and served no useful purpose, not with the availability of third generation synths. The Institute's experiments with the Forced Evolutionary Virus, or FEV, ended when Doctor Virgil went rogue and fled into the Commonwealth. "But even with the organic synth project complete, the Institute did not rest on its laurels. Work continues in other fields, its sophistication increasing with every day. Of course, with this increase comes an increased appetite for energy; the Institute is constantly facing shortages in its power budget, in no small part due to the fact that the molecular de-materializer (the only way in and out of the facility) requires immense amounts of power for each use. Moreover, despite the luster of the Institute's facilities, a lot of the crucial facilities (particularly the reactor) are pre-War technology and despite continued maintenance requires increasing amounts of resources to keep running after two centuries of expansion. The technology still holds up, as it was built to last." |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 30 August 2298 - BMU: Gibbons, Nerd Ragers Clinch CL Title The College Square Nerd Ragers topped the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors by a score of 6-1. Leading the way was pitcher Jalen Gibbons. Gibbons threw 9 innings of 2-hit ball for the Nerd Ragers. College Square now has a 5-game win streak and clinch the Cambridge League title over the Refractors. Gibbons was effective against the Refractors, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The left-hander limited C.I.T. Ruins to just 1 run on 2 hits over 9 innings. "Our goal is to improve each and every day," Gibbons told the College Square Citizen. 30 August 2298 - BMU: Night People Rally Keeps Them Alive in DHPL The Galleria Robotics Experts got a superb performance from pitcher Punky Shaum, but the Greentop Nursery Night People still won the game, 6-5, in 10 innings. Shaum threw 8 innings allowing 1 run, before being chased in the 9th inning. With the win, Greentop Nursery upped its record to 41-33, two games back of the Robotics Experts with two to play. The Night People procured the win, in large part because of left fielder Chris Faith. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. That followed how he helped the Night People get back in the game in the 9th. Faith told a Greentop Nursery Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win. The 9th inning was where all the excitement lay. Heading into the inning, the Experts led 2-0 and needed just three more outs to clinch the Dark Hollow Pond League. Facing reliever Josh Sisco, Galleria had two outs when Punky Shaum singled, Lux Schwartz walked, and Bill Hulk singled to make it 3-0. Manuel Tellez then doubled in Schwartz and Hulk to give Galleria a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the innings. Greentop Nursery was not done with their season, though, coming into the bottom of the 9th trailing by five. With one out and a man on 1st, Rocky Riffle took over for Shaum. After Muddy Barbano singled, Faith hit a three-run home run to cut the score to 5-3 with one out. Isaiah Swindler then came in, allowing a single to Austin LaFleur and a two-run bomb to Marksman Paul to tie the game, 5-5, and send it to the extra inning. 30 August 2298 - Dominant Performance by Bertha in Sunshine Tidings Win Sunshine Tidings starter Tony Bertha put a stranglehold on the The Slog offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Chemists to a 7-1 win. The slumping Ghouls have dropped 9 in a row and will be eliminated from playoff consideration with their next loss or Easy Town win. Bertha, the winner, is now 11-12 after putting the clamps on the The Slog offense. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 4 hits, while collecting 7 Ks. Bertha told a Sunshine Tidings Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win. 30 August 2298 - Deathclaws Trip Roxbury, 6-3, in Extra Innings, Still Eliminated The University Point Deathclaws defeated the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 6-3, in 11 innings at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury today. Leading the charge for University Point was third baseman Ryan Morris. He was 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win puts University Point at 57-47 this season; however, the Deathclaws were eliminated from the playoffs due to Warwick's win. William Radwater (11-8) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in 8.0 innings. University Point used a timely hit from Kory Richardson to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Deathclaws ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact. Richardson attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone." He also expressed disappointment in being eliminated but stated that the team would "keep fighting like we always do." 30 August 2298 - Goodneighbor Gets 5-2 Road Win, Tied with T-51s Goodneighbor turned a good effort from starter Bruce Iddings into a win over the Egret Ninjas at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The final score was 5-2. Iddings, now 17-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bus Paula earned his 13th save in 14 chances. Burtie Cuttooth, the 18-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Cuttooth contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Goodneighbor up, 2-0. "It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Iddings told the Goodneighbor Times. Goodneighbor raised its record to 73-31 with the win. After Oberland's 5-3 loss to Atom, the Hancocks are now tied with the T-51s for the top position in the Soutch Charles Association. 30 August 2298 - Silver Shroud Win at Nordhagen Beach, 11-3 Fort Hagen pitcher Brent Hooker did his part in helping his team beat the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 11-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 8 innings, Hooker surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 5. He allowed 3 runs. The first-place Silver Shroud have a one-game lead in their division with Abernathy's loss. They also clinched a playoff spot thanks to the Starlight Lady Killers dropping their contest. Seth Dungan hit a run-scoring triple off Accident John in the top of the seventh, which put the Silver Shroud in front, 4-3. Dungan had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 5. "I just trusted my stuff," said Hooker. |
"If there is interest, perhaps some more of the Fallout lore can come to light in the future."
As someone who has no knowledge of the Fallout games, I find all the stuff about the settlements really interesting, adding a lot to the immersion in the "universe" of the game. Starting to get a bit nervous about the Boys.... |
Quote:
The Boys are definitely in the playoffs, so they have that going for them. Looking at the current trends before I sim the Wednesday, August 31, games, the Boys are 4-6 in their last 10, the same as Fort Hagen and Abernathy. Only Easy Town has stepped up as of late, going 8-2 in their last 10. The winner of the Institute League gets them in the first round. I don't know why NB has been cold as of late. Perhaps they're just cruising to the finish. They had better wake up early enough to clinch the league, though! And they most certainly need to be awake in the playoffs if winning the Sole Survivor Series is in their wheelhouse. |
Really like the look at the Institute! I'm one of the rare players that tends to favor the Institute over the BoS, and while I can have a debate about the merits of the factions, it'd also be a lie to say aesthetics plays no role. The Institute is CLEAN. Even in F3, when the BoS had the Pentagon, there was still trash all over the floor, and in NV, the NCR embassy had trash on the floor. The Institute has no such problems.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 31 August 2298 - BMU: Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Refractors The C.I.T. Ruins Refractors faced a tough opponent in College Square pitcher Manny Madrid, but did just enough to pull out the victory at General Atomics Stadium at the Ruins by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Madrid went 8.1 innings and allowed no runs. The winner was C.I.T. Ruins reliever Mitch Revolver, now 4-4. The loser was Victory Parade. With the win, C.I.T. Ruins upped its record to 46-29. The Refractors procured the win, in large part because of pinch hitter Johnny Cambridge. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. "If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Cambridge told the C.I.T. Ruins News. C.I.T. also entered the 9th trailing 2-0. That changed when pinch hitter Chris Knickerbocker hit a one-out, two-run home run to tie the game. 31 August 2298 - BMU: Night People Flatten Robotics Experts, 11-2 Greentop Nursery starter Sam Molina throttled the Galleria offense, as the Night People won in a rout, 11-2. Molina got the win, improving to 5-0. He allowed 2 hits and walked 5 over 7 innings. Molina allowed 1 run. Greentop Nursery now has a record of 42-33 with the win, placing them one game behind Galleria heading into the final regular season game. The Night People got an important contribution from first baseman Er Temptation, who in the bottom of the first hit a circle change into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Night People ahead, 3-0. "We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Alfredo Barios. 31 August 2298 - Teddybear Electric in 6-0 Win Goose eggs were the order of the day for the Diamond City Swatters as starter Chris Teddybear shut out the Diamond City Swatters 6-0 at The Great Green Jewel. The Jamaica Plain pitcher struck out 10 and walked 2 while allowing 3 hits. "Teddybear was good but he wasn't flawless," Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor said later. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from Jamaica Plain, but this is on us." This year Teddybear has worked 201 innings with 191 strikeouts en route to a 11-11 record and a 4.70 ERA. The Swatters still lead in the Railroad League wildcard race by two games after FHE dropped their game to Quincy, a team also still hanging on for a possible wildcard spot. 31 August 2298 - Talbott K's 11 En Route to 4-0 Knuckle Punchers Win The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers topped the University Point Deathclaws, 4-0, in South Charles Association action at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. The game was highlighted by the performance of Roxbury pitcher Scaredy Cat Talbott. Tom Mannequin recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 16 for 22. Roxbury, with the win, is 29-76. Talbott went 8.1 innings, allowing no runs on 5 hits. The Roxbury right-hander, now 5-16, has an ERA of 0.75 this season. "Scaredy Cat made his pitches," said Roxbury manager Squatty O'Sullivan. 31 August 2298 - Bullets Drives in 5 Runs in Gunners Win The Quincy Gunners bested the FHE Yao Guai, 12-6, at The Stone House. Alec Bullets was one of the standouts. He went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The triumph puts Quincy at 60-45 for the season. Bullets contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Quincy in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 3-2, Bullets took a knuckleball from Danny Owens and stroked the double to left. His 7th double of the season allowed the Gunners to leap in front, 5-3. "We maximized our offense today," said Quincy skipper Kevin Banner. "That makes everyone's life easier." Hose Wallcrawler was outstanding for FHE. The shortstop went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs, and two RBI. 31 August 2298 - With 6-1 Win, Party Boys Clinch BL The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys got a stellar effort from pitcher Chet Arthur, helping Nordhagen Beach score a win over the visiting Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 6-1. Arthur picked up the win for Nordhagen Beach, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 11-10. The North Charles Association Brotherhood League-clinching Party Boys are 64-41, four games up on second-place Easy Town with three to play. The Party Boys got an important contribution from third baseman Jon Hitman, who in the bottom of the third hit a 1-1 cutter into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 4-0. Hitman said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together." Fort Hagen benefitted from the Abernathy Adamantium dropping their third-straight game. That means the Silver Shroud lead the Institute League by a game with just three to play. The Shroud have already clinched at least a wildcard spot in the playoffs. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 September 2298 - Silver Shroud to Be Featured in HCU Series Season 1 of Mistress of Mystery's "The Boston Killer," which will feature a team-up of the Mistress of Mystery with the Silver Shroud as they pursue the Boston serial killer, Pickman. Two episodes of the six-episode show will feature some members of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud of the CBO. Some of the selected Silver Shroud players featured are CF Ben Pawlak, 3B Micah Morals, SS Seth Dungan, and P All Day Acosta. The premise of their episode is that they are practicing when they discover a body near the field. They then help the Mistress and the Shroud to find clues to help lead to the killer. Filming will take place in late October, well after the season has finished. 1 September 2298 - BMU: Needham Brawls, Cut Somerville Place Sentry Bots relief pitcher Chet Needham was cut by the organization this morning after getting in a fight at Bar in Somerville Place with visiting Eastlake Aquaboys fans. According to Sentry Bots' manager Limp Durn, Needham defied team curfew and was drinking and talking smack to Eastlake fans. One table of wannabe tough guys challenged to take him outside. Needham responded that they were outside and followed by punching one out. Another grappled with Needham, while the third hit Needham with a beer bottle, cutting his ear in the process. Durn said that the defiance of the team rule led to the team releasing Needham before the season finale today at Somerville Place Park. Needham has pitched in one game this season, the only appearance of his career. In that game, he allowed five earned runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in 0.2 innings. He has an ERA of 67.50. 1 September 2298 - CBO Players of the Month Spronk Captures NCA Batter of Month Award: At only 21 years of age, Tyler Spronk could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career. That would be great news for fans of the Salem Witch Hats, as August was one to remember for the left fielder and he has captured the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .373 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 24 runs scored. So far this season Spronk is batting .257 with 22 home runs. Instead, he struck out to end the threat. 1 September 2298 - BMU: Night People Roar Back to Win, 8-7 Down big, one team was not ready to end their regular season. The Greentop Nursery Night People beat the Galleria Robotics Experts, 8-7, at Longneck Lukowski's Grave. The win was due in part to right fielder Maxx Murtagh, who went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. With the victory, the Night People upped their record to 43-33, tying the Robotics Experts and forcing a play-in game for the Dark Hollow Pond League title. In the bottom of the fifth, Greentop Nursery second baseman Austin LaFleur had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, LaFleur stroked a run-scoring single to center. Trolley Dodge came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. The win elevated the Glowing Sea League-champion Big Leaguers to 48-28. A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the 18th, an error by the Robobrains allowed the Big Leaguers to score the winning run. "Enjoyed this one," Minnier told the Natick Banks Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow." 1 September 2298 - BMU: Commandos Trounce Action Boys, 12-3 Corey Statue was a vital contributor to the 12-3 Haymarket Mall victory over Postal Square. Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 2 September 2298 - BMU: Galleria Takes DHPL Title in 11 It came down to a coin flip for which team would host the game. It came down to an extra-inning game to become the Dark Hollow Pond League champions and extend the season to the playoffs. The Galleria Robotics Experts turned back the Greentop Nursery Night People, 4-3, in 11 innings at General Atomics Galleria Park. Lux Schwartz, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 4-6 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The victory gives Galleria a record of 44-33, one game up on the Night People. The Robotics Experts got the game-winning hit from third baseman Schwartz. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Robotics Experts. "The house was rockin'," said Schwartz. "We are so thrilled to be the champions over a good club. Now we want to go and win the Boston Minor Series." 2 September 2298 - BMU: Galleria's McAndrews Hopes to Advance Skills Galleria Robotics Experts backup centerfielder Base McAndrews has been used sparingly since arriving to the Finch Farm franchise in a July trade with Quincy just before the trade deadline. Today, in his only at bat, McAndrews used a pinch-hit opportunity to hit one of the Robotics Experts' 13 singles. It was only McAndrew's second hit in 14 opportunities (.143) since joining the Experts. McAndrews is a true rookie to baseball. Born in an area southeast of the Glowing Sea, McAndrews lived to survive rather than play games. On a trade visit to Fairline Hill Estates, McAndrews discovered people playing baseball and asked why they were playing and not working. He was floored to hear that baseball was their job. "I asked right then if I could play," McAndrews said. "I had no idea what I was doing, but I was fast and figured out how to run after balls, but swinging a bat was tough. I would just push the ball and run when I could touch it at all." Because of his raw talent, FHE Yao Guai scouting director Jake Kaufman contacted the CBO front office to place him on the scout list. By CBO rules, teams are not allowed to sign their own players without that player being on the OSA scouting list from the CBO central office. Once a player is on the list, then teams can bid on him. Quincy outbid FHE for his rights but gave up on him midway through the season. "I'm going to spend all my time this offseason working on learning how to bat," McAndrews said. "I'll be sad not to get to play much in the playoffs, but I'll be happy to be a good teammate in the future. One day, maybe I can be the leadoff." 2 September 2298 - CBO Elimination Weekend We will be starting several games on this Friday, September 2, but we will see some teams eliminated beginning perhaps today. Four teams have already punched their ticket to the playoffs, with three league titles set: Nordhagen Beach in the Brotherhood League, Goodneighbor in the Minutemen League, and Oberland in the Railroad League. Fort Hagen has also clinched at least a wildcard spot in the playoffs. Eight other teams are still vying for the last four playoff spots with up to four teams able to clinch the wildcard today depending on results. Easy Town could clinch the wildcard over The Slog in the BL, Abernathy could clinch at least a wildcard over Concord in the Institute League, Warwick could clinch the wildcard over Quincy in the ML, and Diamond City could clinch over FHE in the RL. The Assaultrons, Adamantium, and Mirelurks all have a playoff Magic Number of 1, while the Swatters have a Magic Number of 2. 2 September 2298 - BL: Party Boys Flex Muscles on Easy Town Easy Town got a terrific game from left fielder Jarrett Metalbox. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Nordhagen Beach, 11-9. Metalbox went 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Nordhagen Beach reliever Aaron Demps picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Ray Housecat absorbed the loss. With the win, Nordhagen Beach pushed its record to a North Charles Association best 65-41. In the bottom of the sixth, Nordhagen Beach left fielder Michael Fogcrawler put his team on top. With no one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit his 3rd triple of the year. Easy Town pitcher Ray Housecat served it up. Just like that, the Party Boys were ahead, 9-8. Fogcrawler was 2 for 4 with a triple, a home run, a walk, three runs, and four RBI. "We're in the driver's seat," said Fogcrawler. "I like our chances every day." 2 September 2298 - BL: 9th Inning Rally Extends Ghouls' Playoff Chances A good performance from right fielder Boots Yellowhair helped the The Slog Ghouls defeat the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 8-7. Yellowhair went 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Ghouls. The Slog reliever Wonder Boy Fultz got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Steve Warwar was tagged with the loss. The win gives The Slog a season record of 58-48. The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With The Slog trailing 7-6, Stoop Bugwing hit a changeup from Steve Warwar to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Ghouls had a walk-off win. "It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Bugwing said. 2 September 2298 - IL: Adamantium Earn Playoff Spot with Comeback Win The Abernathy Adamantium outlasted the Starlight Lady Killers in an extra-inning thriller. Greenzone went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Adamantium. Abernathy pitcher Kyle Hooch got the win. He's now 6-3. Ricky Six Pack was tagged with the loss. The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Greenzone hit a fastball from Ricky Six Pack for a run-scoring single. The Adamantium, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. "The game of baseball will test you," said Chase Stingwing, the Abernathy skipper. "This one tested us." The current losing streak for Starlight has reached 4 games. They were already eliminated from the playoffs heading into this series. 2 September 2298 - IL: Silver Shroud Maintain One-Game Lead The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 5-3, in North Charles Association action at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Curtis Thriceshot notched his 33rd save in 36 chances. Fort Hagen relied on the hitting of Ben Pawlak to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 4-2. For the game, Pawlak had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats. "Nice to tuck this win away," said Dimes. With the win, Fort Hagen upped its record to 59-47, one game up on Abernathy for the Institute League lead. 2 September 2298 - ML: Goodneighbor Beats Quincy, 8-7 Jumper Hayes impressed in the 8-7 Goodneighbor win over Quincy. Hayes, who is on pace for 87 RBI this season, went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. John Oldsink, the winning pitcher, improved to 16-5. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Bus Paula was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 16 save opportunities. Zachary Utsinger hit a 2-run double off Rapid Roberts in the top of the first, which put the Hancocks in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Utsinger had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4. "I just tried to make good contact," said Utsinger. The Hancocks, now 75-31, have won 9 in a row, putting them one game ahead of Oberland for the South Charles Association's best record. With the loss, the Gunners are eliminated from the playoffs. 2 September 2298 - ML: Mirelurks Snatch Late Win The Warwick Mirelurks withstood an impressive performance by Jamaica Plain left fielder Carney Cornseed to defeat the Red Rockets, 5-3, at The Homestead. Diamond City now has a record of 54-52 with the win. Waiting on the results of the FHE-Vault 81 game, the Swatters' Magic Number is now down to 1 for the four-seed in the SCA playoffs. Fusion allowed 2 runs over 8 innings. He also racked up 11 strikeouts. "I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Fusion said. 2 September 2298 - RL: Vault 81 Rally Eliminates Yao Guai The FHE Yao Guai got a superb performance from pitcher Bow Rome, but the Vault 81 Dwellers still won the game, 6-5. Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 3 September 2298 - Quincy's Brainwash Suffers Attack Quincy reserve shortstop Danny Brainwash will be out for the rest of the season and will need reconstructive surgery after receiving bites to his face and neck by a junkyard dog. The dog protects the junkyard near Poseidon Energy. It somehow got out of the fenced in area and made its way to Quincy. Brainwash was the first person it had a chance to sink its teeth into. One witness said that the dog went straight at Brainwash. "That guy tried to dodge the dog, but it just threw its weight into him and knocked him down," the unnamed witness said. "Once he was down, it just started biting and shaking its head like it was trying to rip him apart." A Minutemen guard nearby also witnessed the attack. He was able to shoot the dog dead, ending the attack. Brainwash was transported to the Quincy Clinic where he was awaiting transport to a hospital to receive surgery. Brainwash appeared in 47 games in 2298, going 18 for 41 (.439) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 10 runs, and eight RBI. 3 September 2298 - Wallace Hot, T-51s Cold An efficient outing for Phlip Wallace usually means a win for the Egret Ninjas and today was no exception. The 29-year-old left-hander held the Oberland T-51s to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 7 and gave up 6 hits in the 10-0 shutout. "Phlip really got it done out there today," said Egret manager Kip Bomb. Wallace has started 28 times this year, pitched 195.1 innings, fanned 189 batters and walked 40. His current record is 11 wins and 11 losses with a 4.42 ERA. Crops Gerdenheimer led the Ninjas' offensive charge. Field. Vault 81's 4 hits and 2 walks came to naught as FHE took the contest 8-0. Monticello added 7 strikeouts in his complete-game effort. This season Monticello has worked 163.1 innings with 106 strikeouts en route to a 10-8 record and a 4.46 ERA. 3 September 2298 - Ackerman Shines in 8-4 Salem Win A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Salem Witch Hats and County Crossing Bloodbugs. Salem is now 51-56, County Crossing 43-64. Salem took a 8-4 lead on Ackerman's 11th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Justin Hale in the top of the seventh, propelled Salem to the win. Utsinger contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put Goodneighbor up, 1-0. In postgame comments to the Goodneighbor Times, Assman said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come." 3 Septemeber 2298 - Party Boys Eke Out 6-5 Win Versus Easy Town The Easy Town Assaultrons knew at the start of this game that they were the wildcard representative of the Brotherhood League. However, they promised that they would still be hungry in this series. They weren't hungry enough.
