This is my first year of OOTP and I'm a little curious how player development works. I'm running my first season with the Boston Red Sox and their 2013 first round pick Trey Ball had an overall potential rating around 75 (cant remember if this is out of 80 or 100) at the beginning of the 2014 season. But by the end of the 2014 season his overall potential has been reduced to 20 or 21. How does this happen? His stuff rating is still pretty high, he is only 20 years old, he is a top 10 pick. I understand not all prospects are going to work out but in 15 months he went from being a top 10 pick to a nobody? what happened?

not sure if this has been touched on, but I believe the the rating system to the MLB scouting card, which is on a 2.0 to 8.0 scale, just in the 20-80 scale.

Some issues with the *** roster I've noticed:

none of the teams have coaches assigned
many salaries are for one year then revert to $50,000 in 2015
On the Swallows, Shingo Kawabata is out for two months. I was at opening day and he started at third that day.

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks!

I've added all the coaches over the last week or so, they'll show up in the next update.

Not sure exactly what to do about the salaries. I guess maybe we should make most contracts multi-year deals?

Fixed Kawabata. Boosted his ratings a bit as well.

eriqjaffe 04-30-2014 10:50 AM

It's more of a database thing, but U.S. Cellular Field's capacity is wrong. OOTP shows a capacity of 47098, while the capacity is actually 40615.

The capacity changed in 2004 when some remodeling was done at the park. Bugged me for a while, but I keep forgetting to mention it.

You might want to check Ben Revere's defensive ratings. He has something like a 190/250 OF range in the game, but zone ratings had him as below-average last year.

Top Prospect List is not as like one on MLB.com. Gary Sanchez,Wong because he hasn't played a full season yet in majors should make top 100. Also like Allen Craig-Cardinals,John Smoltz-Tigers in History missing who they were Drafted by.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I have the latest patch (15.2, build 4) and Tyler Beede is still listed as retired.

Did you start a new game with the latest patch? That's needed to have the changes show up.

I did, but using a quickstart. That quickstart was created before I downloaded the patch, is that my problem? Any way I can fix this?

That is your problem. You'll have to create a new quickstart after installing the patch.

Shucks, I have a ton of roster and other modifications I did pre-patch. I can create a new player who matches Beede, but is there any way to fix the draft class so they aren't all high schoolers?

Alternatively, can I import the rosters, league settings, and other fixes into a new quickstart?

Unfortunately not.

Most of this should be doable but is a bit complicated.

I'm a bit pressed for time so hopefully someone else can explain how to do this. If not I'll try to do so as soon as I get a chance.

That would be way more preferable, don't worry about when you can explain it. It would be much appreciated though! :)

The elements that I'm most concerned with are rosters (I set accurate opening day rosters for all 30 clubs, including jersey numbers!), injury lengths, strategy settings, and league setup (names, abbreviations, award names). It would be great if I could export these to a new quickstart, because I'd like to make the quickstart available for people to download on here, if anyone is interested.

Cool! Appreciate the hard work you must've put in!

Rosters can certainly be done. The other stuff I'm not so sure about, though most of it is probably doable other than possibly the league setup stuff.

For Tyler Beede, you should just be able to unretire him? If not, just screenshot Beede or something and re-create him.

As for the high schoolers issue, you can't fix that, the patch will though. I don't see it as that big of an issue though? It's not like these guys have stats or anything? I could see if you possibly want to sort "College" vs "High School," in that case, just create filters for the time being:

"HS" Filter: Age BETWEEN 17 and 19
"COL" Filter: Age AT LEAST 20

As for the importing, it wouldn't be worth the time trying to do that, it could easily take hours and might nor even work. I pre-ordered and got my game early, so there were a few errors here and there, so I waited until the first patch to start my big dynasty since I knew most wouldn't carry over in the new patch. I have since downloaded the BETA 2 patch and everything is running great so far! Waiting those extra few days killed me, but playing a couple more days of OOTP 14 wasn't that bad :p

Could always just zip the league file and upload it here? That way everything stays the same and you shouldn't lose anything?

Hah yeah, I only actually started simming last week. From 4/18 till then it was 100% of my own anal-retentive configuration :P

Strategy can be exported, so I could just import that into a new game assumably. A lot of the other time-consuming issues I found were minor league ballparks like in El Paso, and also having to create new spring training fields (Cubs, Dodgers) for use by AZL rookie league teams. This is stuff I wouldn't enjoy doing again. Otherwise the league setup mostly involved team names and abbreviations.

I know the feeling. Still haven't started my sim yet, there's still quite a bit of roster stuff to get right before my OCD will actually allow me to play the game.

Some of that stuff (ballparks etc.) is on our list of things to get to. Hopefully it'll make it into the game a few patches down the road.

Seri League has a Teams Lineup and Pitching Rotation gets blanked at Opening Day of second Season but Roster is full and only way around is to delete that League.

For accurate Rosters Injured List to the day your Rosters come available to Download. Also hopefully you updated 40 man to like Springer of Astros on it.

Started a new game, not from my quickstart. The draft pool is not 100% high schoolers, but Beede is still not included.

Yeah, still listed as retired. Occurring when I create a new standard game from the start screen. His ratings are slightly higher, however.

The Yurpman 05-07-2014 06:40 PM

Go in to Commish mode and un-retire him. He'll be in the draft for you.

That hadn't worked previously, but it does when you retire him at the start of the season. Doesn't seem to work after that point.

mdtwnkfey 05-07-2014 11:02 PM

His rating is still pretty off, though. I set scouting accuracy to 100% and his potential is 2.5 stars. Rodon, Kolek are 5 stars. I know he's a couple years older, but he probably ought to be closer to them, no?

Probably. Rodon and Kolek are pretty badly overrated compared to the current MiLB prospects in game and Beede might be a little underrated as well.

As I've mentioned a few times before, the draft is still very much a WIP.

I'll be working on fixing and refining as many draft guys as possible over the next few days. So things should look totally different/much better next build.

bwburke94 05-08-2014 03:03 AM

Has anyone checked minor league ballpark names to see if they're accurate? I remember the final OOTP13 patch missed a few new corporate-sponsored names.

rstoomeyii 05-08-2014 10:32 AM

How is overall rating determined? I'm about to start my 2016 season with the Red Sox and I have had Charlie Blackmon on my team since mid 2014. His contact rating has been over 65 the entire time I have had him and he has been a .300 hitter with regular playing time since 2013. But his overall is still 20 or 21. I don't have his other ratings handy but just that fact that he is a .300 hitter shouldn't he be given a little more credit?

I've done a few at AAA and the lowermost rookie leagues. A few of the GCL and AZL league stadiums, which are their parent franchise's spring training stadiums, are incorrect. In addition, El Paso is still listed as playing in PGE Park, which is in Portland. That franchise was in Portland prior to moving to Tucson in 2011, so it's been incorrect for several years now.

You should put together a list of the errors along with the correct information and post it here or send it to lukasberger so it can be considered for future updates.

I posted a few of them earlier in this thread. I realized that as I made these edits starting my simulation I should have manifested them. I probably will do that now.

Well, do something to help with it then. You got added to the beta team, no? Please contribute and earn that free game.

A list of the MiLB (and Int) parks that need to be changed with the changes that need to be made specified, would be useful, then I can send that to Markus and Andreas so they can make the changes.

PSUColonel 05-09-2014 11:46 PM

I am...Camelback Ranch is the homes for AZL Dodgers and White Sox
Venezuela has no weather database.

El Paso also has the wrong minor league ballpark...it should be Southwest University Park

Charlotte Knights now play at BB&T Ballpark (CHARLOTE)...game says Knights Stadium

BB&T Ballpark (WINSTON-SALEM) has no ballpark factors added

Weather is hard to list since it is attached to the cities. Someone just needs to go through each ballpark and make sure the weather is correct. Some cities are no in the database, and either have to be manually entered, or find a close city within the database. I am currently doing the weather for all parks, but I am not sure how that can help Markus with the downloaded copy???

Arizona Diamondbacks have the wrong weather...should be Phoenix
Reno Aces has wrong weather...should be Reno, NV
Visalia Rawhide has wrong weather..should be Fresno, CA
Hillsboro Hops should be...Portland, OR
AZL Diamondbacks weather should be Phoenix
DSL Diamondbacks weather should be Santo Domingo

Now this is just one organization....most are like this. I don't mind going through them...is there a way I can change all of this for Markus? It is time consuming, and I know he has more important things to do.

Delmarva Shorebirds are located in Salisbury, MARYLAND.
Greenville Drive are located in Greenville, SOUTH CAROLINA
Scranton-WB Railriders are listed as playing in Moosic...which while technically correct, does not help with weather. Should be...SCRANTON, PA...closest is probably Allentown
Staton Island has no city...probably should be NEW YORK

PSUColonel 05-10-2014 02:43 AM

I've never seen this, but shouldn't it be included within the game?

mdtwnkfey 05-12-2014 01:02 AM

Continuing with the MiLB incorrect ballparks:

The Omaha Storm Chasers are no longer at Rosenblatt Stadium, which was torn down. They've been at Werner Park since 2011.

Charlotte Knights and Winston-Salem Dash are both in new stadiums, each coincidentally named BB&T Ballpark.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos are now at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. They are still listed at Five County Stadium, which was where the Carolina Mudcats played before moving to Pensacola and becoming the Blue Wahoos.

Richmond Flying Squirrels are listed at Senator Dodd Stadium. This was the franchise's park when they were the Connecticut Defenders, but they moved to Richmond in 2010. The Connecticut Tigers now play there. In the game, the Tigers are listed as playing at Damaschke Field, where they played in Oneonta, NY before moving to Connecticut.

Seeing as these moves happened several years ago, it seems like there's been a lack of updates lately in the minors. I hope these will be fixed soon and for next year's game. Since as mentioned, the developers have better stuff to work on, I'm happy to pitch in if I can.
