Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 2 March 2299 - 2nd Day of Exhibitions Highlighted with One NWL Win The CBO vs NWL exhibitions went most as planned except for the Quartz Star Force defeating the Atom Cats in 10 innings, 7-6. In other action, there were two more shutouts, led by the Lexington Synths winning 10-0 on a one-hitter by pitcher Tristan Marble. Jamaica Plain shut out Quantum again, 12-0, on a three-hitter by Will Rope. For the second straight day, Roxbury won 12-3 over the Wild Gatorclaws. Travis Phillips was 3 for 4 with a home run, a run, and six RBI. The Gatorclaws' Lackey Parkman was 4 for 5 with a double. County Crossing needed a late rally from a 4-1 deficit to win 5-4. Tattoo Woolf hit two home runs, including the game-tying homer in the bottom of the 8th. |
These are some cheesy names all around, but I have to admit, Quartz Star Force has a nice ring to it, and I'm not just saying that because they won!

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 March 2299 - CBO Wins Them All In the second series for the NWL's teams touring the Commonwealth, the CBO teams won all eight games for the second time. Quartz (1-2) is the only NWL team yet to pull off a victory. In today's games, there were two shutouts and a 20-plus run performance. Five of the eight CBO teams scored at least 10 runs with the closest game being Concord's 1-0 shutout of the Orange Tourists. In that game, each team was held to just six hits as the Radstags' Gwinnett Southie was able to go only 5.2 innings in the no-decision. The Tourists' Craig Rose suffered the loss, but he allowed just one earned run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout in 6.0 innings. Salem's Josh Hugs pitched a complete-game five-hitter against the Cherry Ghoulrillas in the Witch Hats' 8-0 victory. It was the second straight game the Ghoulrillas were shutout, with their lone run coming in Game One versus Lexington. FHE got the biggest offensive boost on the day, scoring a 21-2 win over the Quartz Star Force. Three players homered for the Yao Guai and Brian Dunne homered for Quartz. FHE LF Adam Crook went 3 for 5 with three doubles, two runs, and five RBI to lead his team. Noah Arch and Joe Rathmann each homered and drove in four runs. The Slog also got offensive in the "Battle of the Ghouls," winning 19-2 over the Grape Painted Ghouls. Lernz Tentsleep did a ton of damage, going 3 for 5 with a double, a triple, and a home run. He scored three times and drove in seven. Millioncap Go was 4 for 7 with a double, four runs, and four RBI. Joe Garofalo went deep for Grape. The highest-scoring NWL team on the day was the Quantum Nukalurks, who dropped a 10-3 decision to Egret. Bernie Valdivia went 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs, and an RBI for the Nukalurks. Kyle Boohoo was 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run, a walk, two runs, and three RBI to lead the Ninjas. |

Nuka News Update All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World by Evan Guy 5 March 2299 - Great Grape! Behind the bootiful bat of Booby Rayburn and the masterful pitching of Blake Johnson, the ever-competitive Grape Painted Ghouls defeated the lowly The Slog Ghouls by a landslide, 5-1. Rayburn hit the ball three times. One hit was a single, one hit was a double, and one hit was for the ages, a 3-run home run off The Slog's poor pitcher, Bobby Delaune. He also walked once, scored once, and had three RBI. Booby was definitely better than Bobby! In the Johnson vs DeLaune battle, Johnson won the game with seven innings pitched, one earned run allowed, five hits allowed, and two walks. Delaune, however, was the loser with a capital 'L,' allowing five earned runs and seven hits while walking three and striking out eight in six innings. Ham Porter also got into the hit action today. He had three hits with a double, two runs, and an RBI. The amazing Painted Ghouls will now travel to Abernathy Farm to play the Abernathy Adamantium on Tuesday and Wednesday. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 5 March 2299 - Game Four of CBO vs NWL Sees 2nd NWL Victory The Nuka World League has to be celebrating today that they could find another victory, this time with a good CBO team falling. The Grape Painted Ghouls pulled off the shocker today, defeating The Slog, 5-1, in the series noted as "The Battle of the Ghouls." Booby Rayburn, who lists Kiddie Kingdom in Bradberton as his hometown because his parents work there, was the hero today. He was 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, a walk, a run, and three RBI. Blake Johnson was the winning pitcher, allowing only a single run in 7.0 innings. The rest of the games went as expected with blowouts, shutouts, and blowout-shutouts. Starlight had the biggest win on the day, defeating the Victory Cave Crickets by a score of 24-1. Jesus Church went 3 for 4 with two triple, a home run, two walks, four runs, and five RBI to lead the Lady Killers. Damani Beebe was 3 for 5 with a double, two home runs, a walk, four runs, and four RBI. Hope Scrapper added two home runs and four RBI. The Cave Crickets' only run came in the top of the 1st when Jazz Man Gant went deep off Starlight's Chris Schneier. Schneier pitched the complete-game six-hitter. The Cherry Ghoulrillas saw themselves get shut out for the second straight time by Salem, 12-0, and the third straight time overall. The Witch Hats' Terrence Artman pitched the complete-game two-hitter to earn the victory. Rookie 3B Ian Brahmin was 2 for 4 with a grand slam, a run, and five RBI. FHE shut out the Quartz Star Force, 12-0, behind Bow Rome's two-hitter. Tyler Shoemaker led the Yao Guai in hitting, going 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, two runs, and three RBI. Adam Froggatt pitched 7.1 innings of shutout ball in the University Point Deathclaws' 5-0 win over the Dark Bloodworms. The Deathclaws had only five hits in the game, all singles, but they benefitted from the Bloodworms walking eight batters in the contest. Ryan Morris had three RBI, once walking with the bases loaded and the other hitting a two-RBI single. Two teams won by a 15-1 count: Quincy over the Wild Gatorclaws and Egret over the Quantum Nukalurks. Other than the Painted Ghouls' five runs, no other NWL team scored more than one on the day. After today's games, NWL teams will travel to play the eight best teams in the CBO from 2299: Goodneighbor, Easy Town, Oberland, Fort Hagen, Nordhagen Beach, Abernathy, Warwick, and Diamond City. Those games are on Tuesday, March 7, and Wednesday, March 8. After those games are played, the NWL teams will return to Nuka-World, while the CBO teams will prepare for the Battles for the North and South tournaments to be held Saturday, March 11, through Sunday, March 19. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 7 March 2299 - NWL Makes Games Close, Still Goes 0-8 The NWL has fallen to 2-38 in the cross-league exhibition series, but five of the eight games played today were within five runs and four within two runs. Only two NWL teams were shut out, including the Cherry Ghoulrillas, who have now been shut out four straight times. The biggest margin of victory on the day went to the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys in their 27-1 victory over the Orange Tourists thanks to atrocious pitching by the NWL team. The Orange pitchers walked a whopping 20 batters while giving up only 19 hits. Michael Fogcrawler led all hitters, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, two walks, three runs, and six RBI. Ryan Combs and Jon Hitman each walked four times. Combs and Dustin Mart each scored five times. Tommy Beach pitched the complete game, allowing just one earned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts. Fort Hagen had the other double-digit victory on the day, topping the Victory Cave Crickets 18-1. David Driftwood was 4 for 5 with two home runs, a walk, four runs, and four RBI to pace the Silver Shroud. Micah Morals also hit two home runs. Brent Hooker was the winning pitcher, allowing one unearned run in the contest in 7.1 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts and five hits allowed. Easy Town shut out Cherry 2-0 on Smoker Caliman's three-hitter. Diamond City shut out the Wild Gatorclaws 9-0 on X10-44 Mannson's four-hitter. Goodneighbor, Oberland, and Warwick all had low-scoring scares in their games. The Hancocks, the defending CBO champions, needed two runs in the bottom of the 7th to push past the Quantum Nukalurks, 3-1. The T-51s trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 4th, but scored five to win, 5-4. The Mirelurks held on against the Quartz Star Force to score a 4-2 win. All teams resume their matchups tomorrow night. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 8 March 2299 - CBO Wins All Eight Again It was a tough finish against the NWL as their eight teams matched up against the CBO's best and went a combined 0-16 in those two games. For the entirety of the CBO vs NWL matchups, the CBO went 46-2 over the six-game stretch. The biggest story of the day may be the Cherry Ghoulrillas breaking up their shutouts streak, despite their 4-1 loss to the Easy Town Assaultrons. The Ghoulrillas' Andre Garden his a two-out, first-inning home run off the Assaultrons' David Tech to give themselves a 1-0 lead. They only managed two singles the rest of the way. Fort Hagen had the biggest win on the day, topping the Victory Cave Crickets 18-0. Micah Morals had his second-straight big day from the 8th spot in the batting order, going 4 for 5 with a double, a home run, three runs, and five RBI. Jim Tiller hit a three-run blast and knocked in five total. Mike Cartrette pitched only six innings but allowed no runs and three hits, walked one, and struck out 11. Diamond City also had another shut out, this time defeating the Wild Gatorclaws 14-0. Tim Fusion pitched 7.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits and striking out 10. Jeffrey Curatolo was only 2 for 4 but both hits were home runs, his second a 6th-inning grand slam. He walked once, scored three times, and knocked in five. Wally Warwick also homered twice, scoring three times and driving in four. Oberland had another close call, taking a 4-0 lead early and holding on for a 6-3 win over the Dark Bloodworms. Gerald Jerry pitched 8.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Dark's Zach Cerilli hit a solo bomb off Jerry in the 4th inning. The NWL teams will now return to Bradberton to prepare for the 2299 season. CBO teams will now head to either Easy Town or South Boston to participate in the Battle for the North and Battle for the South tournaments, respectively. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 10 March 2299 - Sunshine Tidings-Vault 81 Trade: Dominguez for King You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Sunshine Tidings and Vault 81 have made a swap with 21-year-old minor league C Dario Dominguez being shipped to the Dwellers and in return the Chemists would get 21-year-old minor league C Tiger King and a 3rd round draft pick. Sunshine Tidings general manager Bobby Blonde said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Sunshine Tidings organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works. 10 March 2299 - Starlight's Rookie SS Claims Legendary Genealogy He changed his number this season upon his apparent promotion to being the Starlihg Lady Killers' starting shortstop. Tomorrow, he gets to show whether or not the legendary ancestry he claims matters. Speaking to reporters today in the press conference for the start of the Battle for the South Tournament at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS, Killers rookie shortstop Nick Maris said he learned that baseball was his calling. "I was reading this baseball history book at the Boston Library," Maris said, "and I saw that there was a great Major Leaguer from over 300 years ago named Roger Maris. And I also saw he was one of the greatest hitters ever." According to Nick Maris, Roger Maris hit a record 61 home runs in the Major League in the 1960s. It was a record for a long time. "He was better than the Babe, who was the most famous baseball player ever pre-War. That guy was a legend. My great times 100 grandpa was more of a legend after hitting 61 home runs." Asked how he knew that Roger Maris was related to him, Maris referred to the genealogy section of the Boston Public Library. "I found it right there," Maris said. "There was a whole section of preserved genealogy books and it gave me the Maris line all the way to 2077. Well, guess what? Roger had one son that played baseball, but he was not my great grandfather. My great grandfather was named Randy, who played professional golf. His son, another great grandfather was named Blaise, and he played professional baseball. And on and on that one Maris always played baseball or some other sport as a pro. For baseball, some made it to the Major Leagues and some made it to the Minor Leagues, all the way to 2077. "Well, guess what? One of the Boston Red Sox players that year was also my great grandfather, Kurt Maris. Unfortunately, he did not make it to the vault, Vault 81, when the bombs started falling. But my great grandmother did, along with all five of her children, including my great grandfather, Karl. And then nobody didn't play baseball because of living in a vault with no large open spaces. "Then there's me. I play baseball like it's my destiny. I want to be legendary like my great grandfathers." Maris is behind three-year starter Justin People on the depth chart, but he expects to get some playing time in his first season with the CBO squad. In two years at the BMU level with four different teams, Maris has batted .283 with 34 doubles, seven triples, four home runs, 63 runs, and 76 RBI. He has good speed but never attempted a stolen base at the BMU level. "I usually batted 8th in the lineup, so there wasn't opportunities to run. My goal is to bat #1 one day. I don't think I'll ever have the power Grandpa Roger had, but at least I can put a bat on the ball and run like a yao guai is chasing me." Asked why his hometown is listed as Lunenburg, Massachusetts, instead of Vault 81, Maris told that tale, too. He said that his grandfather, Louis Quatorze Maris decided to leave Vault 81 in 2249 with a group of caravaneers. His father, Quarter Maris, was born in 2255 and worked on construction for a settlement called Robbs Hill from 2273-2280. In 2280, when Nick was almost two years old, Quarter decided to join up in the caravan business and moved back to Boston, working out of Bunker Hill. There Nick took an interest in baseball and joined a youth league traveling team, the North Charles Bank Goonies. Publick Occurrences was not able to confirm all of Maris' story due to time constraints. We do know that it is true he lived in Bunker Hill and played for the N. Charles Bank Goonies before trying out for the CBO. He was not drafted in the 2296 Inaugural Draft but signed with Goodneighbor after the draft concluded. If Nick's genealogy story is not real, we think little Nick Maris has a great future in writing. If it is true, then he has a namesake to live up to. |
Like the Maris story - nice!
