Cycle! I saw only the last leg of it, but it was a fine leg. :p

We had it all covered, I think I fell asleep right after they talked about his previous hit and woke up with Gary screaming about the cycle :)

I like Escobar, he's been slumpy for a while but maybe that's how he goes. Unbelievable throw from 3B the other day in Dante's Inferno Stadium too.

Well this is shaping up to be an epic mess, 2nd inning and only a backup C on the bench :(

BBGiovanni 06-08-2022 12:12 AM

And tonight's "thing I never saw before": an alleged pitcher walking 3 guys on 12 pitches

Always remember, he's getting paid for that.

And more than you make with honest work for the entire year.

They said the x-rays on his hand were negative, but they probably used the same machine that gave deGrom 5,000 clean MRIs last year so

(blows)

...

Something to lighten the mood. Jeff McNeil's extended zoo!

Forget it Jake, it's San Diego.

NEW YORK -- Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar missed Thursday’s game against the Brewers due to what manager Buck Showalter called a “non-workplace event.” Neither Showalter nor other Mets officials clarified further, except to say that the team would know more on Friday.

“That’s all I can really say legally,” Showalter said.

Escobar does appear to be suffering from some sort of medical issue, as Showalter cited HIPAA laws in explaining why he could not comment further. The manager also noted that he checked in multiple times with trainers about Escobar’s status during the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Brewers. But when asked directly if Escobar was injured, Showalter declined to comment. Mets general manager Billy Eppler also declined comment, as did a team spokesman. Escobar did not appear in the Mets’ dugout during the game.

I can't decide whether I should put my money on "really bad" or "really stupid" yet...

I haven't followed the cartel plague protocols this year, I suppose like everywhere else they've given up.

In other news, your hero struck out two whole batters in the 9th inning yesterday! But if not for Pete's great throw and Plummer being on the ball that was a blown save and a half.

There are few things in the world that I enjoy more than when Pete socks a grand slam. :D

knightdreamer2k 06-18-2022 01:36 PM

I love reading this thread because a great many folks are in here expecting the inevitable wheels to fall off, and yet it has not happened yet. Of course if it does I will be rightfully roasted. The Mets are a really good team. Once Degrom and Scherzer come back they will be a force to be reckoned with. Did you ever think that at this point in the year the Mets would have the most runs scored in baseball?

And to think you never knew that until a few weeks ago!

Is it me or does it look like the rally parakeet has grown up quite a bit?

You mean the hawk? Looks more like a jinxbird to me :(

Where do the Fish keep finding these guys? The A's and Marlins should be made into feeder league teams!

Westheim 06-20-2022 01:07 PM

Keith Hernandez: "Did you always want to be a baseball player?"
Pete Alonso: "It was either that or astronaut, but I failed calculus in college, and then my options were limited."

THANK GOD FOR CALCULUS!! :D

Westheim 06-20-2022 02:44 PM

Jeff McNeil squirrels away a run the Mets had no business getting, but of course tears out a leg in the process.

If he's seriously hurt, I must cast myself off the tallest cliff into the ghastly darkness of the deepest sea ...!! :crying::crying:

This will be an apology to Drew Smith, who I lumped in with Eric Hanhold and Jacob Rhame and other bums and called the whole lot of them "terrible relievers" on page 29 of this thread.

I didn't mean to, Drew. Really. It was just that I was angry, and back then you had not been able to show us what you got due to repeated and depressing injuries. Please don't be mad at me, Drew. I like you a whole bunch now!

I am also sorry for never remembering you when I go over the box score of a Mets night game and under pitching I see "Smith, Dr", and each and every time I wonder, who the heck is this Doctor Smith and why is he pitching for the Metsies? I really do like you a whole bunch, and I could totally pick you out of a lineup with Sergio Romo, Hank Conger, and Johnny Cueto. IF you wear your uniform.

You know, the one that says "SMITH 62" on the back.

Yes, I am bored to ******* death in the office and read my way through old threads. No guarantee I won't have to make more apologies to players and other people that don't even know I exist.

BBGiovanni 06-21-2022 09:04 AM

Smith is no slouch, and I'm not sure there are better options than him. Lugo can really make a mess when he's not right, and the other guy is just not good.

BBGiovanni 06-22-2022 09:23 PM

Hey look, every SP but Walker is broken! Smells like Szapucki!

Westheim 06-23-2022 12:57 AM

Doesn't matter. Pete will put the entire team on his back and just out-homer the other teams while we keep sending out the Seventeen Incarnations of Yennsy Diaz. :D

Or maybe not.

Wouldn't be the first first-place Mets team in June to have drowned by August.
