29 April 2299 - Lexington-The Slog Make Deal

The Lexington Synths traded 21-year-old minor league reliever Dan Redplate and 22-year-old minor league left fielder Jason Templeman to the The Slog Ghouls, getting 29-year-old second baseman Pat Cambridge in return.

29 April 2299 - Mustang Sharp in 8-0 Shutout

In an outstanding mound performance, Vault 81 Dwellers starter Josh Mustang fired a complete-game shutout against the Diamond City Swatters at CURIE Inc. Field today.

Mustang was the key to the Dwellers's 8-0 win. The 33-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 8 hits and 2 walks he allowed. In 5 starts this season Mustang has chalked up a 3-2 record and a 3.96 ERA.

"8 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."

Kevin Morrison and Deer Quickwalker each homered for the Dwellers. Chris Van Benschoten led the team in hits with three, including a double. Tyler Ross was 3 for 4 for Diamond City with a double and triple.

29 April 2299 - Deathclaws Beat Gunners in 21-inning Affair

A 5-RBI performance from center fielder Jukebox Luttrell, who is tied for 4th in the SCA in home runs with 6, led the University Point Deathclaws to a win over the Quincy Gunners, 12-11, in 21 innings. The game took 7 hours and 58 minutes to complete and the teams used a total of 44 of the possible 50 eligible players in the game.

Luttrell had a game-changing triple in the top of the 21st. On a 2-2 changeup from Ray Human, he banged a run-scoring triple to right-center, giving the Deathclaws a 12-11 lead. It was the 3rd triple of the year for Luttrell.

"It feels good to get this one," Luttrell told the University Point Daily News.

Special Notes: CL Wick Prater was injured while pitching. Jukebox Luttrell sets the SCA regular season extra-inning game record for runs with 4. Bernie Gonzalez sets the UP regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Jukebox Luttrell sets the SCA regular season extra-inning game record for bases on balls with 4. Tyler Braggmann sets the QUIN regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Bernie Gonzalez sets the UP regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 9. Tyler Braggmann sets the QUIN regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 9. Bernie Gonzalez sets the SCA regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 10. Tyler Braggmann sets the QUIN regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 10. Jukebox Luttrell sets the SCA regular season extra-inning game record for bases on balls with 5. Bernie Gonzalez sets the SCA regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 11. Tyler Braggmann sets the QUIN regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 11.

29 April 2299 - Assaultrons Edge Past Four Leafs, 2-1

In a low-scoring game between the Easy Town Assaultrons and the Finch Farm Four Leafs, pitcher Smoker Caliman was masterful on the mound. The Easy Town right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. The win was credited to Ray Housecat in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Blaine Phrasemaker took the loss. The win brings the Assaultrons to 5-14, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Jarrett Metalbox was the walk-off hero for Easy Town. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Assaultrons left fielder hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Caliman said after the game.

29 April 2299 - Witch Hats Bridle Party Boys, 2-1

The Salem Witch Hats reigned over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys in damp conditions.

Roy Syme never let the Party Boys get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Witch Hats to a win, 2-1. Dan Beantown closed the game out for Salem, earning his 2nd save.

Chris Treestump, the slugging right fielder, had a direct impact on the outcome. Treestump contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Salem up, 2-0.

"I just trusted my stuff," said Syme.

Julian Shed (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

29 April 2299 - Radstags Deal Silver Shroud 5-4 Loss

Jason Robinson left his imprint on the 5-4 Concord win against the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in 10 innings. Robinson, who is tied for 9th in the NCA in bases on balls with 10, went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Bell Franklin in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Joe Verti took the loss. Concord is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 5th in 19 games.

The game came to a sudden end. In the bottom of the tenth, with one out, Robinson drew a walk from reliever Joe Verti (1-1), driving in 1 run. It gave Concord the 5-4 walk-off win.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Robinson.

The Stags were down to their final out in the bottom of the 9th with Curtis Thriceshot on the mound for the Shroud. However, 2B Josh McIntyre took a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall to tie the game and contribute to Thriceshot's first run allowed on the season and first blown save.

29 April 2299 - Ghouls Top County Crossing, 8-7, in 14

The The Slog Ghouls beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 8-7, at Tarberry Field Forever. The Slog left fielder Kyle Whale had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. David Tower notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. The loss has the Bloodbugs at 6-13.

The Ghouls procured the win, in large part because of shortstop Lernz Tentsleep. In the bottom of the 14th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.

"We found a way to get it done," Whale said.

30 April 2299 - Season Done for Kovalenko: Dave Kovalenko had to wait several agonizing days to find out his diagnosis after suffering bone chips in his elbow on 04/28/2299. Today he received word from the Warwick doctor that he would be out the rest of the year. Team officials called it a huge setback but something they would have to overcome.

In pitching stats this season Kovalenko has rung up no wins and 3 losses in 5 games. He has an ERA of 4.13 and has fanned 19 batters in 28.1 innings.

30 April 2299 - Chemists Win Thriller, 4-2

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists walked off with a big win.

A good performance from right fielder Brightsun Ramos helped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists defeat the Abernathy Adamantium, 4-2. Ramos was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Chemists. The win belongs to Jumbo Cleveland in relief. His record improves to 1-0. T-Bone Heagy took the loss for Abernathy.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Ramos hit a cutter from T-Bone Heagy for a 2-run home run. The Chemists, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"At least I did my job," Ramos said.

The win gives Sunshine Tidings a record of 11-9.

Abernathy second baseman Jim Waples came into today's game against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Chemists did their jobs well, beating the Abernathy Adamantium 4-2 and holding Waples hitless to snap his 22-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old second baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Jim did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Adamantium manager Chase Stingwing. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 22 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

This year Waples is hitting .380 with no home runs and 7 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .412 clip and scored 18 runs.

30 April 2299 - Big Day for Lacy in 10-7 Swatters Win

Getting a good performance from right fielder Wayne Lacy, the Diamond City Swatters defeated the Vault 81 Dwellers, 10-7. Lacy was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5 for the Swatters. For the Dwellers, the loss makes them 6-14.

Lacy had a key at-bat for Diamond City early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and gave Diamond City an early 3-0 lead.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Swatters manager Bucky Bachelor. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

30 April 2299 - Garge Slugs Radstags to 7-4 Win

With right fielder Cram Garge leading the charge, the Concord Radstags defeated the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 7-4, at Nuka Park. Garge hit 2 home runs. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Bell Franklin. Concord is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 6th in 20 games.

Josh McIntyre drove in one run for Concord. The 20-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring catcher's interference off Radscorpion Johnson. It was his 9th RBI of the season.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Garge.

30 April 2299 - Rathmann has 3 Hit Day to Power Yao Guai Offense

In the 12-6 FHE win over Egret, the impact of Joe Rathmann was substantial. Rathmann, who is tied for 7th in the SCA in stolen bases with 4, went 3-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winning pitcher was Papa Bush. His record is now 1-0. The left-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits for the Yao Guai. The loss puts Egret at 9-11.

Rathmann had a game-changing triple in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 slider from Nick Poppa, he banged a run-scoring triple to right, giving the Yao Guai a 5-4 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Rathmann.

Rathmann expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

30 April 2299 - Witch Hats Absorb 6-1 Loss at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Derek Gist kept the Salem Witch Hats hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-1 win. Gist went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 4-0. Nordhagen Beach is off to a hot start at 15-5.

Jon Hitman had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the fifth for Nordhagen Beach. With the bases loaded and the Party Boys leading 2-1, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson.

1 May 2299 - Swatters' Slumpbuster Mauled in Sleep

Following their team's 10-7 victory over Vault 81 on Sunday afternoon, the Diamond City Swatters returned to Diamond City for some rest and relaxation before traveling to Warwick on Monday. With the teams out of town for a few days, Swatters backup SS Alex Slumpbuster did not know he had an uninvited guest waiting in his apartment.

In the morning, Slumpbuster woke to excruciating pain on his leg, discovering an infant radroach munching away for its midnight snack. Slumpbuster was able to retrieve his .44 from his nightstand and unload into the beast. He was then able to crawl out of his apartment to get help.

Slumpbuster was taken to a clinic to be treated. It is unknown the extent of his injuries, but the Swatters organization did release a statement that he would not be joining them in Warwick for their two-game series against the Mirelurks.

1 May 2299 - Assaultrons Samuels Snags NCA Player of the Week

One of the league's most exciting young players, Sean Samuels of the Easy Town Assaultrons earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 21-year-old center fielder had a lofty .526 average (10-for-19), collecting 1 home run, 2 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

To date this season Samuels is hitting .354 with 2 home runs.

1 May 2299 - SCA Star of the Week Chosen

Allen Bishop has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 21-year-old third baseman of the Diamond City Swatters had a hot bat in the South Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Bishop batted .500 with 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.

This season Bishop is batting at a .393 clip with 4 home runs and 15 RBIs.

1 May 2299 - NCA's #1 Batter Announced

Brightsun Ramos made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the North Charles Association this past month.

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists right fielder shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 19-year-old hit .329 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

1 May 2299 - Bishop Claims SCA Batter of the Month Award

At only 21 years of age, Allen Bishop could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Diamond City Swatters, as April was one to remember for the third baseman and he has captured the South Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .393 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

1 May 2299 - April's Premier Pitcher Announced by NCA

Sunshine Tiding's Tony Bertha has made fans throughout Commonwealth Baseball Organization take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the North Charles Association threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 5 starts Bertha compiled a 1.67 ERA, putting up a 4-0 record, striking out 30 and tossing 43 innings.

1 May 2299 - McDuff SCA Winner, Top Hurler in April

The South Charles Association scribes have announced April's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Manny McDuff of Quincy. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 5-0 mark to prove it.

The Quincy star made 5 starts with a 2.50 ERA and surrendered 37 hits in 39.2 innings. He struck out 33 and walked 10.

1 May 2299 - Hein Voted April's #1 Newcomer

Tommy Hein is beginning to make a name for himself and he did it by posting a 3-1 record and a 3.67 ERA in April. For his spectacular mound performance last month he has been named BNN's Rookie of the Month in the North Charles Association.

The 21-year-old newcomer isn't at all intimidated by his lack of experience, at least not outwardly. In fact, by the way he has pitched beyond his years, you could easily mistake him for a veteran.

In 5 starts for the Ghouls Hein has struck out 27 batters in 34.1 innings, holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .212 during his hot streak.

1 May 2299 - South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month

Ayag Mour is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Jamaica Plain hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .284 average with 21 hits, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.

2299 Week 4 - The Week in Review

3 Attachment(s)
Analysis

This week saw a little less when it came to extreme changes with only one team--Roxbury--jumping up five spots in the rankings and the most any team, well five of them, fell was four spots.

Diamond City checks back in at #1, but their lead as the definitive top team has fallen a bit. It has nothing to do with the Swatters' performance, but there are several teams "killing" it early on. The rest of the Top 5 except for #2 is the same other than Quincy and The Slog each slipping down a slot. Fort Hagen remains #5. Abernathy drops four spots to #8, while the Party Boys rise up four spots.

Nordhagen Beach jumped up this week to #2 thanks in large part to a two-game sweep of then #4 Abernathy in the mid-week series. The Party Boys dropped one of their weekend games for a 4-1 week with just one 2-1 loss. They're not scoring a lot of runs with yesterday's 6-1 win being their highest-scoring game of the week, but their pitching has been impressive, allowing 3, 1, 3, 2, and 1 runs, with the two three-run games going into extra innings. Now NB is 2nd in the NCA in runs allowed (65), 3rd in Starters ERA (3.64), and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (2.24). Closer Night Demon Archaki has been the most impressive, currently with a 0.00 ERA in 10 appearances with 8 saves.

Goodneighbor, University Point, Abernathy, Starlight, and Sunshine Tidings round out the Top 10.

Oberland continues to be a surprisingly mediocre team, dropping four spots to #16 this week. The amazing fact about their fall so far is that their biggest strength last season, pitching, has been atrocious so far. The T-51s are 10th in runs allowed (113), Starters ERA (5.63), and Bullpen ERA (4.94). Sheng Kawolski (2-1, 5.58 in 2299 / 14-4, 2.51 in 2298), Lennie Landslide (1-1, 5.02 in 2299 / 16-7, 4.29 in 2298), and Matt Udder (2-4, 8.27 in 2299 / 16-5, 2.71 in 2298) have been struggling immensely. Still, the T-51s are 9-11 and in a four-way tie for 2nd place in the Railroad League. Our expectation is that the T-51s are going to come out of this pack sooner rather than later, especially that studmuffin Kawolski pitching as the ace. I guarantee 15 wins for him or I wouldn't call him "Honey."

Prospects/Rookies to Watch

In this feature, we're going to look at a few of the prospects and rookies out there and how they are doing so far in 2299, as well as what might be happening for them in their CBO futures. Ten featured players are listed alphabetically. [StLee's note: I know who my active readers* are based on comments in the dynasty, but I think I have 'derived' names of other dynasty writers* whom I read. If you read this and want to know if/when you're in, let me know!]

Pockets Aintfull* - #41, CF, The Slog
The 2296 1st-round pick by The Slog, Aintfull has finally been called up to the CBO team after Boots Yellowhair went down with an injury. He has only played two games so far with one start. He is 0-4 so far. However, Aintfull is considered to be a good prospect to remain in the CBO. From 2297-2299 with the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks, he has a career average of .273/.337/.383. He has scored 75 times and drove in 44.

Harry Byrd - #33, 2B, Vault 81
Taken in the 1st round by Oberland in the 2297 Rookie Draft, Byrd was traded to the Dwellers because they felt he could be a threat in the CBO for a long time. Considered to be a long-term prospect who should one day be one of the league's top players, Byrd has not yet been active in his rookie year, making many wonder why he was called up from the Vault 95 Robobrains in the first place. Byrd has had just two pinch-hit opportunities so far stuck behind a good two-bagger in Bubb Islander*.

Ugio Church* - #26, SP, Breakheart Banks (Salem)
The 1st-round pick by Salem in 2297, Church was a high-potential late bloomer. In 2298, he struggled mightily with the Behemoths, going 0-14 with a 9.89 ERA. That would seem to make him a bust, but team officials refused to part with him from some hungry teams. So far in 2299, Church has started three games, going 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA. The difference? Things are starting to come together, especially his arm motion, meaning his control is improving. He had a 62-36 walks-strikeouts number in 2298. He is 11-19 so far this season. He still walks too many batters, but his pitch placement is getting better every outing.

Oren Gep* - #47, 1B, Diamond City
The DC rookie, the #1 overall pick in 2297, has not been dominating the field so far, but he was good enough to be named starter despite there already being a good starter when he was called up from Breakheart Banks. Gep is doing well, hitting .257/.333/.392 with two home runs, six runs, and 10 RBI in 20 starts this season. He has struck out too much with 31, but he is working on better working the strike zone. If he ever gets it, he'll be a .350 hitter in the league.

Eugene Gym - #21, SP, Forest Grove (Roxbury)
The #1 overall pick in the 2298 draft, Gym has had growing pains in his first three starts as a professional. He is 1-0 but has a 12.27 ERA, lasing only 7.1 innings in those three starts. His pitching is expected to get much better but he will probably need much more time like a lot of the up-and-comers.

Tommy Hein - #55, SP, The Slog
One of the few rookie pitchers, Hein earned the NCA Rookie of the Month. Not drafted in 2296, Hein has been one of the hardest working players in the league. He was traded from Egret to the Ghouls in 2298. While his numbers were not outstanding, he has shown strength of character, which will probably result in him being the top rookie pitcher in 2299.

Ayag Mour* - #17, C, Jamaica Plain
The other Rookie of the Month in the CBO, Mour has risen from being at the top of the 2nd round in the 2296 draft to finally getting a full-time shot in the CBO this season with the Red Rockets. His numbers of .284/.338/.459 are good for any team, and he leads all rookies in several categories. Mour is the likeliest CBO Rookie of the Year at this moment.

Lannie Tykeson* - #17, 1B, Taffington Boathouse (Easy Town)
A player who surprisingly fell in the 2296 Rookie Draft after a poor pre-draft workout at pitcher, Tykeson has taken his 5th-round pickup as a chip on his shoulder. One of the few two-way prospects where the team wants him to play both, Tykeson is still trying to find his footing as a pitcher. He looked like he was getting it this season, allowing just one run in his first two starts. However, he allowed eight runs in his third start, leading to more questions as to when he will be a CBO-level pitcher. He IS a CBO-level hitter, so far in 2299 with a .385/.400/.436 line with nine runs and five RBI in 10 starts at 1B/SP.

Racky Westheim* - #20, C, Fiddler's Green (Oberland)
The 1st-round draft pick by Abernathy, Westheim was a surprise trade to the Oberland franchise in January. Considered to be a steady prospect who is likely to continue to improve his game, Westheim is batting .292/.333/.313, finding it hard so far to earn extra-base hits with just one double on his 14 hits in 11 games.

Any Why* - #23, C, Eastlake Aquaboys (FHE)
The 2297 1st-round pick of FHE, Why did not stand out in his first season in the BMU, but he has been hot so far for the Aquaboys in 2299. In 11 games, with 10 starts, Why is batting .343/.439/.657. He is 12 of 35 with six extra-base hits, nine runs, and eight RBI.

Huh, that is quite the fall for Oberland. I mean... kinda sad to see them down there... but it's already crowded at the top with teams we like.... so not that sad ;)

Totally agree! Oh dear, how sad, never mind!!
Having got all excited about young Lannie's status as a 2-way player, I'm now a bit frustrated - like the boy himself, I assume - that he hasn't reached the same level with the ball as with the bat. It's going to be interesting to see how he pans out.

The fall of the T-51s' pitching so far in 2299 is the strangest of strange. I checked the scouting reports for all four starting pitchers, and none of them have had dramatic drops, though that might change in the mid-May scouting report! However, Matt Udder, who led the RL in wins in 2 of the 3 first three seasons, who went 16-5 with a 2.71 ERA in 27 starts in 2298, has a 2-4, 8.27 ERA in 2299. In six starts, he has already given up more than half (30) of the earned runs that he gave up in 2298 (59). That is an amazing switch in effectiveness!

I'm not going to tell Easy Town manager Graham Route and pitching coach Saturday Maddox what to do, but if I were them, I would tell them to give up the ghost for Lannie when it comes to being a pitcher and just make him a full-time first-bagger. If they're going to keep him at the minors, they should at least let him play multiple positions. He would already start at 1B with the CBO team, I would assume, because Joe Ransom is terrible (.209/2/4) hitting and not so great at fielding (4 errors in 20 games). He must have some pictures of GM Ryan Herner fooling around on his wife or something.

Also, even if Lannie is not ready to pitch, how much worse could he be than fourth starter David Hill (0-3, 6.21)? Hill has the advantage of being rated higher than Tykeson with two good pitches, one OK pitch, and one not-so-good pitch. Hill doesn't have much movement in his pitches with his sidearm action, but he can place the ball decently well. Tykeson has two good pitches and two not-so-good pitches (reliever, anyone? --I don't think the OOTP AI uses two-way players as relievers), and his movement and control both need to improve: each is developed about halfway of their potential. That slow development also tells me it may take two or three more seasons to fully develop, and neither will be elite in the CBO.

Really, the best thing the Assaultrons organization could do for Tykeson is to lose their pipe dreams of him being a dominating hitter and pitcher, and just let him pitch. Maybe if they continue to tank, though, they could unload some of their players in trades and move him up around midseason to see what he can do with the big boys.

2299 - BMU - April in Review

2 Attachment(s)
Perfect Month

Based on their own admissions, the Starlight Lady Killers organization will break up their BMU team, the Mystic Pines Raybathers to make a run at the 2299 Sole Survivor Series. While it lasts, though, let us take a look at the undefeated Raybathers (11-0) and how awesome their numbers look in the Commonwealth Association.

First, offense. The Bathers are 2nd in runs scored (75) but 1st in several categories: Batting AVG (.308), OBP (.401), OPS (.865), Batting WAR (4.1), and wOBA (.394). Their worst ranking is 6th in home runs (9). Catcher Chris Dominoes just got called up to Starlight to back up Hope Scrapper. Dominoes was batting .390/.469/.488 with seven runs and seven RBI. CF Geminy Grasshopper is batting .372 with a home run and 13 RBI. 1B Mike Pushard is .343/2/7. SS Reverend Wilson is .333/2/7.

Next, pitching. Mystic Pines is first in runs allowed (30), Starters ERA (2.20), and Pitching WAR (2.4). They are second in Bullpen ERA (2.05) and FIP (3.85). All of those are great when considering they are only 8th in strikeouts (92).

Alex Alexson, a 2nd-round pick in the 2298 draft, is already on an MVP pace, going 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA. While it is yet to be seen what he can do in the CBO, he has been confusing batters a lot by cycling through his five pitches, with only his changeup lagging behind in usefulness. Obviously an undefeated team has undefeated starters, but all four have looked spectacular: Chad Sweet (2-0, 1.93), Trombone Jones (2-0, 4.50), and Dave Harden (2-0, 2.70). Closer Chad Hartwig has been the only questionable pitcher in the lineup (2 saves, 6.75 ERA).

Early-Season MVP Watch

Marketman Wins CA Player of the Week: Matt Marketman is respected by most Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks fans for his no-frills style of play. The 25-year-old right fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .579 average (11-for-19) with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

Star of the Week Picked in MA: At the age of 28, Ryan Wegott might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Fiddler's Green right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .615 batting average. For his efforts Wegott collected the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 8 hits in 13 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs last week in 4 games.

Marketman Named CA Batter of the Month: Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks fans believe they've got a talented young star in Matt Marketman.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in April, as he hit .420 with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month.

MA Announces Best Batter Award: Ryan Wegott of the Fiddler's Green T-60s was named the Massachusetts Association's best batter for his fine performance in April.

He compiled a .500 batting average and .612 on-base percentage during the month. In 11 games he piled up 19 hits, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Commonwealth Association Selects #1 Starter in April: Over the past month Alex Alexson has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Commonwealth Association. He proved all that and now he's been named April's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Mystic Pines Raybathers posted 3-0 mark and a 0.39 ERA. In 3 starts he tossed 23 innings, permitted 10 hits and fanned 4 batters.

April's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Lidtke: Bobby Lidtke took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 21-year-old Lead Bellies starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 2-0 won-lost record in 3 starts. This month he fanned 22 batters in 18.1 innings and compiled a 0.98 ERA.

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

2 May 2299 - Vault 81's McCort Returns to League

Three years ago, Vault 95 Robobrains pitcher Vince McCort was arrested for an incident in Oberland Station where he murdered a man after the man's pet mole rat destroyed McCort's garden. As of April 28, he was released from Parsons State Insane Asylum. Today, he is eligible to make his baseball debut, as long as the Robobrains plan to use him.

The 20-year-old was not drafted in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, but Oberland saw some potential in him, which he started to show heading into the 2296 season. Though he was behind the array of good pitching for the T-51s, they knew that he had the potential to be either a player or trade fodder. What they didn't know was that he possessed murderous rage.

McCort was not available for an interview, but a team representative for Vault 81 said that they were satisfied with the job of rehabilitating McCort at Parsons. According to the representative, "We are confident there will be no repeat of those actions."

2 May 2299 - Copycat Killing Touches CBO Coach

Though the case of the Hubflower Killer was solved years ago, Easy Town had a tragic copycat incident last night that will keep the Assaultrons' hitting coach Kyle Verrecchio out while he mourns the murder of his wife, Kay Adams-Verrecchio.

Adams-Verrecchio was found along the Harbor just north of East Boston Police Station. While Publick Occurrences cannot print all details of the case, her body was mutilated and she was stuffed with hubflowers.

East Boston Police Captain Marker McCluskey would not give many details to the press. He said that they were seeking Detective Nick Valentine's counsel, but they believed that the murder was quite different from the M.O. of the Hubflower Killer.

"We know that the person that did this tried to make it look like something else," McCluskey said. "Make no doubt about it, this person will not get away with it."

2 May 2299 - Moore at His Best, Blanks Easy Town

It was not a good day at the plate for the Easy Town Assaultrons. They came up empty when it mattered against Starlight Lady Killers right-hander City Moore, who scattered 6 hits across 9 innings and held the Assaultrons scoreless.

"We had 6 hits so I know he wasn't completely untouchable, but he was close," Easy Town manager Graham Route said later.

Moore chalked up 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in the 4-0 Lady Killers win.

In 6 starts this season Moore has registered a 1-4 record and a 3.43 ERA.

2 May 2299 - 3-HR Dream Game for Benton

Bryan Benton was sending souvenirs to the sun gods all game long in the 9-5 Quincy Gunners triumph at Graygarden Park today.

The 21-year-old put on a show for fans, launching not one, not two, but three home runs into the stands and powering the Gunners past the Oberland T-51s.

"One homer's good, two's great, three's out of sight," Benton told BNN reporters after the game. "I can't wait until next game. I really feel good at the plate."

The left fielder went 3-for-4, rung up 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs on his record-setting day.

Bryan Benton hit a three-run home run off Gerald Jerry in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Gerald Jerry in the 2nd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Alex Godcomplex in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

Posting a .356 batting average to date, Benton has 5 home runs and 23 RBIs.

2 May 2299 - Big Day for Rathmann as Yao Guai Down Deathclaws, 12-4

The FHE Yao Guai bested the University Point Deathclaws, 12-4, at BosCom Circle. Joe Rathmann was one of the standouts. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. FHE now has a record of 10-11.

With FHE leading 3-2 in the bottom of the second, Rathmann hit a slider from Quentin Malone for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Yao Guai ahead, 6-2.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Rathmann told the FHE Citizen.

Tyler Shoemaker ties the SCA regular season game record for triples with 2.

CF Jukebox Luttrell was injured while throwing the ball. Luttrell suffered a strained oblique and will miss 5 weeks. Luttrell told BNN, "I hurt it throwing the ball. I'm optimistic that I will be back quicker than they say."

This season Luttrell is hitting .278 with 25 hits, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs, scored 15 runs and played in 21 games.

2 May 2299 - Dombrowski Hits 2 home runs in Dwellers Win

The Vault 81 Dwellers beat the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 9-4, at CURIE Inc. Field. The win was due in part to third baseman Mark Dombrowski, who went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Josh Mustang, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-2. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. The Dwellers, now 7-14, have not found much traction so far in 2299.

With Vault 81 leading 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Dombrowski hit a fastball from Chris Teddybear for a 2-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Dwellers ahead, 4-0.

Dombrowski told a Vault 81 Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

2 May 2299 - Synths Bridle Party Boys, 3-1

Super Duper Mart Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys and Lexington Synths.

The Lexington Synths earned a win at Super Duper Mart Stadium, stopping the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 3-1. Starting pitcher Pete Pembroke played a big role in his team's success. Doug Dee El earned the save, his 6th.

Lexington took a 3-1 lead on Justin Browneye's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Nordhagen Beach pitcher Accident John in the bottom of the seventh.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Browneye.

The win puts Lexington at 11-10.

2 May 2299 - Silver Shroud Curb Witch Hats, 7-1

Fort Hagen beat Salem on the strength of starter Mike Cartrette's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 7-1. Fort Hagen goes to 15-6.

Ben Pawlak had a critical at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for Fort Hagen. He came through with a 2-run double to put Fort Hagen in front, 4-1.

"Mike was pounding the zone," said Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen.

2 May 2299 - Late Magic Gets Diamond City 5-3 Win

Starting pitcher Tim Fusion pitched well enough to help the Diamond City Swatters beat the Warwick Mirelurks, 5-3. Josh Samm sewed up the save, his 11th. For the Mirelurks, the loss makes their record 7-14.

Jazz Stockton aided the Diamond City cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the second. For the game, the catcher went 1 for 4.

"We had a good game plan," Fusion said, "and we were able to execute it."

3 May 2299 - Big but Sad Day for Ransom in 7-3 Assaultrons Win

The Easy Town Assaultrons attended the funeral of their hitting coach Kyle Verrecchio's wife, Kay Adams-Verrecchio in the morning. In the evening, they decided to dedicate the game to Adams-Verrecchio.

Easy Town first baseman Joe Ransom played a vital role in his team's 7-3 triumph over Starlight. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for Easy Town. David Tech, the winner, goes to 4-0. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts over 7 innings. The Assaultrons sport a record of 7-15.

Sean Samuels swatted a 2-run home run for Easy Town in the bottom of the third. The center fielder went 2 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 2.

"We're all smiles after that win," Ransom told the Easy Town Today. "It felt good to play like this after what happened to Coach K's wife. We won this one for Coach K and Mrs. Kay."

A person of note was seen in Easy Town, Detective Nick Valentine of Valentine Detective Agency who is looking into the case. Publick Occurrences will provide details as they become available.

3 May 2299 - Robinson, Radstags Wallop Bloodbugs, 10-2

The home crowd had a good time watching the County Crossing Bloodbugs and Concord Radstags get after it.

The Concord Radstags beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 10-2, at Nuka Park. The win was due in part to first baseman Jason Robinson, who went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6. The Radstags go to 7-15 with the win.

With Concord leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Robinson hit a run-scoring single off County Crossing hurler Gavin Eviritts. It was the 14th hit of the season for Robinson and put his team ahead, 3-1.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Concord skipper Mark Gourdroot.

3 May 2299 - Rathmann Helps Yao Guai Beat Deathclaws, 9-6

FHE right fielder Joe Rathmann had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team down the University Point Deathclaws, 9-6. The winning pitcher was W. H. Lub. His record is now 2-2. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits for the Yao Guai. Picking up the save was Dave Crowfoot, his 6th.

FHE took a 9-6 lead on Rathmann's 6th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Chase Southie in the bottom of the eighth, propelled FHE to the win.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Rathmann told the FHE Citizen.

FHE has now won 3 straight, while the Deathclaws have lost 3 in a row.

3 May 2299 - Party Boys Drop Synths, 3-2

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Chet Arthur was in fine form against the Lexington Synths at Super Duper Mart Stadium, leading his team to a win, 3-2. Night Demon Archacki collected his 9th save. With the win, Nordhagen Beach pushed its record to 16-6.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jon Hitman? The Nordhagen Beach third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Party Boys on top, 2-1. For the game, Hitman had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Arthur.

3 May 2299 - Witch Hats Mow Down Silver Shroud, 13-3

Behind a fine performance from Antonio Toeclaw, the Salem Witch Hats knocked off the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 13-3. Toeclaw was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Witch Hats. Roberto Gonzales got credit for the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 7.2 innings. Salem, with the win, sits at 7-15.

The Witch Hats got a big hit from pinch hitter Joe Rossi. In the top of the seventh, Rossi pounded a 3-run home run to left-center. His 1st home run of the season put the Witch Hats ahead, 13-2.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Toeclaw said.

3 May 2299 - Swatters Win at Warwick, 8-4

Diamond City shortstop Wally Warwick had 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Warwick Mirelurks, 8-4. X10-44 Mannson earned the win for Diamond City. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 10. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. Earning his 12th save for Diamond City was Josh Samm.

With Diamond City leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Warwick hit a fastball from Bobby Van Marter for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Swatters ahead, 4-0.

In postgame comments to the Diamond City News, Warwick said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

With the win, Diamond City upped its record to 18-4.

3 May 2299 - Oberland Continues to Struggle, Gunners Not So Much

The Quincy Gunners trumped the Oberland T-51s, 7-5, at Graygarden Park. Quincy second baseman Biggie Biggs was terrific. He was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Wick Prater sewed up the save, his 7th. Quincy has a 3-game win streak, while Oberland has lost 4 in a row.

It could have been a different outcome for Quincy, had it not been for Stuart Costantino, the fan favorite . Costantino contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Quincy up, 1-0.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Biggs told the Quincy Citizen.

5 May 2299 - Lady Killers Win at Sunshine Tidings, 7-3

Behind the hitting of Zeldolph Violet, the Starlight Lady Killers stopped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 7-3. Violet was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times for the Lady Killers. The win elevated the Lady Killers to 13-10.

Violet had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 2-2 forkball from Bill Sarnacki, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Lady Killers a 4-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Violet.

"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Violet told the Starlight News.

Baseball officials have suspended two players for "inappropriate and aggressive conduct." The Lady Killers Damani Beebe and the Chemists Sarnacki will have to sit out 3 and 7 games respectively for their parts in the brawl.

This season Beebe has banged out 28 hits in 82 at-bats for a .341 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .409 pace and his totals also include 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

In 6 starts this season Sarnacki has compiled a 1-3 record and a 5.65 ERA.

5 May 2299 - Red Rockets Down Gunners, 6-1

Jamaica Plain Red Rockets starter Ryan Hartley was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Quincy Gunners, 6-1. Jamaica Plain now has a record of 12-11 with the win.

The Red Rockets got an important contribution from right fielder David Seaweed, who in the bottom of the third hit a splitter into right for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Red Rockets ahead, 4-0.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Red Rockets manager Mark Sellsword, "I like our chances."

Steve Gunkill's consecutive-game hitting streak has now climbed to 20 games. The Quincy center fielder smacked 1 hit against the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets in today's game, but he expressed mixed emotions about the streak after watching the Gunners drop the game.

"I feel good about the streak, but don't feel good when we lose," he told reporters. "I'd love to get a hit as well as a win next time so I can celebrate properly."

Steve Gunkill flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th. Thus far this year Gunkill has hit .370 with 4 home runs and 18 RBIs.

5 May 2299 - Powers Now 4-1 After Subduing Ninjas

The Diamond City Swatters beat the Egret Ninjas, 6-1, at The Great Green Jewel. Starting pitcher Tyler Powers was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The Swatters have now won 4 straight.

The Ninjas had little chance against Powers, who overpowered Egret hitters and struck out 12.

Rookie Oren Gep's 6th-inning home run proved to be the game-sealing hit. With two runners on and the Swatters up 2-1, Gep took a Gary Estate (1-3) pitch over the right center field wall. It was Gep's third homer.

"We'll savor this win," Powers told the Diamond City News, "then get ready for the next game."

5 May 2299 - Brahmin Helps Witch Hats Beat Ghouls, 19-9

The Salem Witch Hats topped the The Slog Ghouls, 19-9, with third baseman Ian Brahmin playing a big role. Brahmin was 4-6 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Witch Hats in the win. The Witch Hats sport a record of 8-15.

The Witch Hats got an important contribution from pitcher Roy Syme, who in the top of the fifth knocked a 2-1 sinker into left for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Witch Hats ahead, 6-3.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse.

Dan Ackerman and Kody Downing each had four hits apiece. CF Mike Castillo added three hits, a double, three runs, and three RBI in the 22-hit Witch Hats assault.

5 May 2299 - Win Makes Silver Shroud 16-7

Fort Hagen rode a decent outing from starter Matt Hope to victory over the Lexington Synths. The final score was 6-3. The save went to Curtis Thriceshot, his 6th this season. The triumph puts Fort Hagen at 16-7 for the season.

The Silver Shroud got a big at-bat from third baseman Micah Morals. For the game, Morals went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Fort Hagen a 5-3 lead.

"I made some pitches when I had to," said Hope.

5 May 2299 - Party Boys Upend Four Leafs, 5-2

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys saddled the Finch Farm Four Leafs with a loss at Finch Family Park. The final score was 5-2. Brian Masterson was 3 for 4, including 2 singles and 1 home run. The Nordhagen Beach second baseman scored 1 run and drove in 3. Nordhagen Beach reliever Drama Miller picked up the win to move to 1-0, while Night Demon Archaki picked up his 10th save on the season. Chris Deathclaw suffered the loss. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 17-6 this season.

Masterson made an early impact for Nordhagen Beach when he stroked his 2nd home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the top of the third, put the Party Boys on top, 5-1.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Masterson.

6 May 2299 - Atom Trades Buchanan for County Crossing's Gentleman, Thompson

The Atom Cats swapped 25-year-old RHP Old Buck Buchanan and a 3rd round draft pick for 27-year-old LF Machete Thompson and 28-year-old RHP Boss Gentleman of the Bloodbugs after what County Crossing officials would only characterize as "difficult" negotiations.

This season Old Buck Buchanan has been credited with 3 saves. In 9 relief appearances and 9.2 innings pitched, he has a 0-3 won-lost mark, 11.17 ERA and 12 strikeouts.

This year Gentleman has posted a record of 1 win and 2 losses with a 3.60 ERA. He has appeared in 6 games and struck out 14 in 30 innings.

6 May 2299 - 5-Hit Blitz by Easy Town's Tophat

Carlos Tophat had an answer for everything the County Crossing Bloodbugs threw at him today at Beantown Brewery Stadium. The Easy Town second baseman went 5-for-5 in the game to put his name in the record book and put the Assaultrons on top, 13-4.

Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Tophat said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."

Carlos Tophat singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th and singled in the 7th.

In 18 games this season Tophat is batting .333 with 24 hits and no home runs. He has scored 8 runs and driven in 8.

Tophat wasn't the only Assaultrons player getting offensive. A total of six players had at least two hits as Easy Town collected 20 on the day. Joe Ransom was 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run, two walks, two runs, and three RBI.

David Hill (1-3) picked up his first win on the season, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with five walks and three strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Easy Town is now 9-15.

6 May 2299 - Yao Guai Win, Arch goes 3-for-4

The FHE Yao Guai topped the Oberland T-51s by the score of 8-5, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Noah Arch. Arch went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Yao Guai. The winner in relief was Tommie Lightbulb after Ali Crummie left with an injury. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 4.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The triumph puts FHE at 12-12 for the season.

The Yao Guai got an important contribution from left fielder Zack Mower, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a full-count fastball into center for a run-scoring double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Yao Guai ahead, 3-1.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Mower told the FHE Citizen. "It's as simple as that."

Sheng Kawolski (2-2) struggled yet again in a surprising season for Oberland pitching. In 5.0 innings, he allowed five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

6 May 2299 - Iddings, Hancocks Get 4-1 Win

Goodneighbor starter Bruce Iddings had a strong outing against the Atom Cats at Coolest Field in Town. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. Bus Paula collected his 8th save. The Hancocks have an impressive 17-7 record.

Iddings (4-2) was effective against the Cats, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The left-hander limited Atom to just 1 run on 4 hits over 8 innings.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Iddings.

6 May 2299 - Silver Shroud Hang 5-1 Loss on Synths

Fort Hagen Silver Shroud pitcher Derek Green was in fine form, leading his team past the Lexington Synths, 5-1. The win elevated the Silver Shroud to 17-7.

Fort Hagen left fielder Andrew Nuka contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 34th hit of the season and put the Silver Shroud ahead, 4-0. Eight different Shroud players each had one hit.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen.

6 May 2299 - Four Leafs Beat Party Boys, 8-5

The home crowd had a good time watching the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys and Finch Farm Four Leafs get after it.

The Finch Farm Four Leafs took Nordhagen Beach pitcher Aaron Demps's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Finch Family Park. The final score had Finch Farm getting past the Party Boys, 8-5. Demps went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs, striking out 8. Blaine Phrasemaker, the winner, goes to 3-3. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts over 6 innings. Steve Warwar got the save, the 4th for him this season.

The Four Leafs got a big hit from third baseman Peter Tatoeater. In the bottom of the sixth, Tatoeater smacked a 2-run double off Nordhagen Beach pitcher Aaron Demps. It was his 10th double of the season. Suddenly, the Four Leafs were ahead, 4-3.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Tatoeater told a Finch Farm Citizen reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."

The third-place Four Leafs are 10-14. Nordhagen Beach is 17-7.

6 May 2299 - Swatters Turn Back Ninjas, 6-4

Behind a solid performance from first baseman Oren Gep, the Diamond City Swatters defeated the Egret Ninjas, 6-4. Gep went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Swatters. Diamond City pitcher Mark Stuhlsatz got the win, upping his record to 5-0. Nick Poppa got the loss. Diamond City has run its win streak to 5 in a row.

Early in the game, catcher Jazz Stockton had a 2-run double for Diamond City. It was his 7th double of the season and put the Swatters on top, 2-1.

Gep told a Diamond City News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win. "I'm starting to feel like a player in this league," he said. Gep is batting .273 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

7 May 2299 - Razor-Sharp Cartrette Blanks Lexington

The Lexington Synths manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. The Synths were overpowered by Fort Hagen starter Mike Cartrette, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Sprole Races said.

Over 9 innings, Cartrette blanked Lexington on 2 hits with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Cartrette said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

In 7 starts this season, Cartrette has picked up 5 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 52 innings, allowed 26 hits, struck out 64 and posted a 1.56 ERA.

7 May 2299 - Westing, Adamantium Get 5-1 Win

Abernathy starter Brad Westing had a strong outing against the Concord Radstags at Tato Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-1 win. With the win, the Adamantium have a record of 13-12.

Westing overpowered the Radstags. The Abernathy left-hander allowed 4 hits over 8 innings, while recording 10 punchouts. With the win, he is 3-1 on the season.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Abernathy skipper Chase Stingwing.

7 May 2299 - Toeclaw Powers Witch Hats Offense

Behind the hitting of Antonio Toeclaw, the Salem Witch Hats stopped the The Slog Ghouls, 4-3. Toeclaw was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Witch Hats. Salem pitcher Terrence Artman got the win, upping his record to 3-3. Dan Dozier got the loss. The win puts Salem at 9-16.

Toeclaw had a critical at-bat in the top of the eighth for Salem, coming through with a 2-run single to put Salem in front, 4-1.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse.

7 May 2299 - Ninjas Prevail, 4-3, Over Diamond City

The Egret Ninjas picked up a win at The Great Green Jewel, knocking off the Diamond City Swatters, 4-3. Starting pitcher Phlip Wallace played a key role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Wallace surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 0. He allowed 3 runs. Egret is now 11-14, Diamond City 20-5.

Egret used a well-timed hit by Tony Tamez to capture the win. The catcher socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Ninjas ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Wallace. "Successful pitchers do it."

7 May 2299 - Red Rockets Roll to 9-3 Win Over Gunners

The home crowd had a good time watching the Quincy Gunners and Jamaica Plain Red Rockets get after it.

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets downed the Quincy Gunners, 9-3. The hitting star was left fielder Carney Cornseed. Cornseed was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Red Rockets. Chris Teddybear got the win, improving to 4-2. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 2.

With Jamaica Plain leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Cornseed hit a 2-run single off Quincy hurler Joey Dimes. It was the 30th hit of the season for Cornseed and put his team ahead, 5-1.

"We played hard and won," said Cornseed. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Jamaica Plain raised its record to 13-12 with the win. Quincy drops to 17-8, one game behind Goodneighbor.

7 May 2299 - Party Boys Come Up Short at Finch Farm, 5-4

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys got a superb performance from left fielder Michael Fogcrawler, but the Finch Farm Four Leafs still won the game, 5-4. Fogcrawler was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The Four Leafs go to 11-14, putting them third in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League.

Finch Farm took a 5-4 lead on Matt Basile's 8th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Basile hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Nordhagen Beach pitcher Accident John visibly frustrated. Tommy Beach (3-3) was responsible for all five runs allowed, four of them earned. Finch Farm entered the seventh trailing 4-1.

"We found a way to get it done," Basile said.

8 May 2299 - Alchemy Accident Sidelines Chillingworth

Jamaica Plain Red Rockets minor league SS Roger Chillingworth of the Haymarket Mall Commandos will miss some time after an alchemy experiment of attempting to turn teddy bears into bottle caps exploded in his face, injuring him.

Chillingworth had the idea from a book he found in a shop in Salem titled "The Leech." Jamaica Plain team officials have warned other players with Haymarket Mall that untrained experiments with impossible science should be avoided. According to one unnamed source, the team told players to "focus on realistic science like laser rifles and pulse mines, or, just, you know, drink your brahmin milk and pump iron."

The Nuka Tour

Your introduction to Nuka-World and Bradberton

by Evan Guy

8 May 2299 - Part 1: Nuka-Town USA

2050-2077: Bradberton's Childhood Dream Come True

According to a terminal, "The nucleus of the Nuka-World amusement park, Nuka-Town USA opened on May 1, 2050, alongside Kiddie Kingdom. Nuka-World's opening day saw tremendous success with over 40,000 tickets sold. Due to the overwhelming success, plans to expand Nuka-World were immediately set in motion. The locale hosted several attractions for families, including eateries like Cappy's Cafe, the Fizztop Mountain and Grille, and The Parlor, as well as the Bradberton Amphitheater for a variety of shows, and the Cola-cars arena and Nuka-Cade for more interactive entertainment. Nuka-Town was also the site of the personal office of Mr. John-Caleb Bradberton, the inventor of Nuka-Cola."

2077-2288: The Gangs All Here and Operation Open Season

Of course, not much happened in Nuka-World or Nuka-Town USA immediately following the bombs, but in time, Nuka-Town USA became a free trade center that caught the attention of a union of gangs.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612695864

According to a terminal, "Nuka-Town became the center of activity in the valley after the Great War, housing its market and living quarters of the traders who chose it as their home. After 2286 and Colter's forcible takeover of the area, it is still the center of life, except with raiders (the Operators, Disciples, and The Pack) at the top and the enslaved former denizens at the bottom.

"The gangs enslaved the settlement's residents with the use of shock collars, forcing them to carry out the manual labor around the park. However, once their takeover was complete, Overboss Colter, the confederation's leader, caused the gang's expansion to stagnate and remained mostly within the confines of Nuka-Town USA and their respective camps. Seeking to expand their reach, and each trying to gain more power over the other two, the leaders of the gangs, and Colter's second-in-command Porter Gage conspired to seek an outside party to take over the raider gangs and lead them to conquer."

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612695864

That "party" happened to be a living god, Nate Howard. Except, Howard was not at all what Porter Gage imagined him to be. Instead of becoming the leader of the gangs after deposing and disposing of Overboss Colter, the new overboss put his ultimate plan in to play: Operation Open Season.

With the help of enslaved Dr. Mackenzie Bridgeman and former Gunner Commander Kaylor, inside information from Sierra Petrovita-Bradberton, and the conversion of raider insiders Porter Gage, Shank, and Katelyn Alden, Howard devised his plan to either murder or capture all gang leaders of the three factions.

Two of the gang leaders immediately converted, influenced by Howard's strength of character and convinced many in their gang to give up their raider ways. Those two were siblings Mags and William Black of the Operators. They proved invaluable in Howard's hunt after he promised them immunity from punishment by the Brotherhood of Steel or Howard's army. They also convinced their personal chemist Lizzie Wyath to convert, a valuable commodity for John-Caleb Bradberton's restructuring of the new Nuka-Cola brand.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612695864

Mason, leader of the Pack, was the toughest to convert, and Howard could not intimidate him. Mason and the Pack all fought against Howard. Luckily, they did not know that Howard was acting independently of the gangs, so they assumed the other two factions were against them, making the defeat of both the Pack and the dangerous Disciples easier.

Howard killed Savoy of the Disciples, and former slaves captured and collared the leader Nisha and her main assassin Dixie. Those two have since been tried and sent to Parsons State Insane Asylum to participate in a mental reprogramming experiment called the "Ludovico Technique."

2288-2299: After Open Season

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612695871

In addition to ridding Nuka-Town USA of its gang problem, Howard also cleared out all other parks of their pest problems. He then reestablished power to all parks, allowing Nuka-World to become a beacon of light (and security) in the Commonwealth.

Now Cappy's Cafe, Bradberton Ampitheater, the Cola-cars arena, Fizztop Grille, Fizztop Mountain, the Nuka-Cade, the Parlor, and Nuka-Town Market bring joy daily to both parents and kids in the good ole Nuka-Town USA.

8 May 2299 - Part 2: Nuka-Town USA

Location: Nuka-Town USA

Stadium: Fizztop Mountain Park at Nuka-Town USA

Team President: Fritsch Nukacade

A trader who lived in Nuka-World until the raiders conquered Nuka-Town USA. His skills with the machines and repair prevented Colter from putting a slave collar around his neck, as they were better than the raiders had. In his own words, that made the raiders almost come to consider him part of the gangs.

Since the raiders arrived in Nuka-World, Fritsch has had only one passion: pre-War arcade machines. And considering that he is the only one capable of repairing and rebuilding them, this makes for a valuable mechanic in hard times. He spends most of his time either fixing the old arcade games or filling them up with all sorts of goodies to attract business from the gangs outside his door.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612697763

Team Nickname: Tourists

Using the Nuka-World mascots Cappy and Bottle with a touring Fallout Boy, the team nickname is an honor to those who spend their caps at Nuka-World.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1612697763

Cappy has always been the most popular Nuka-World mascot. He "was used for marketing purposes and was featured in a park safety rules guide and on postcards along with his friend Bottle. He lived in Cappy's treehouse" in the Safari Adventure park.

Bottle is also popular, but not as marketable as Cappy. He is "a life-size Nuka-Cola bottle, was used for marketing purposes and was featured in infomercials and on postcards along with his friend Cappy."

Players to Watch

1B Die Harris - .397/1/11

Off to a superb start in a league that has yet to learn how to hit the ball, Harris' best quality is as a patient batter who waits for a pitch down the middle. He has good speed and fields decently well on the corner which could allow him to play either 1B or 3B. He has above average speed, already attempting four steals with two successes in 2299.

SP Robbie Graves - 2-1, 1.78

Graves has shown a decent array of fastball, cutter, and changeup. He needs to work on control, but his pitches come on the batters fast. He might have been considered CBO-worthy if he were a bit younger.

3B Brad Ragon - .134/4/10

Tends to swing for the fence on every swing, so he misses a lot. When he does make contact, the ball flies. Decently good with the glove. While he is playing 3B, he could play any of the four IF positions or a corner outfield spot if needed. He's not fast, but he moves well laterally.

SP Ivan Castle - 0-1, 4.15

Despite being a pitcher, helped get himself a spot on Orange after bunting perfectly 10 out of 10 tries in his tryout. Was a free agent signee of Warwick in 2298 but got traded after one season with the Charles View Ampitheater Cannibals. Roxbury released him at the start of the 2299 season. Uses four pitches, with a nice slider. Walks a lot of batters, so needs a lot of work on his control if he wants to make his way back to a CBO squad.

LF Able Gabel - .229/0/6

Signed just over a week ago after being released by Jamaica Plain before the start of the 2299 season. Originally signed with Egret before the start of the 2297 season as an undrafted free agent. Got traded to the Red Rockets in 2298. He shows some power and can probably hit for a better average than most NWL players. A liability on defense.
