Con: Nido had a paw squished.
Pro: His replacement can't possibly hit less than him.

The highlight reel is mostly Keith antics, like absolutely enjoying reading out loud the pitching log of the Red Sox as they got crammed 28 by the Blue Jays, and being cordially invited by Gary Cohen to trim his hedge if he's bored while the Mets are on national TV.

This is the baseball equivalent of the Simpsons' "Stonecutters" episode. Detach the stone of shame... attach the stone of triumph!

Vogelbach will be perfect for the team beach football game after the season, but he's the perfect example of the kind of guy teams actually roster to be a DH. Career .400 SLG, useless with a glove or on the bases, Not a niche that needs to be filled on a team with JDD AND Pete AND Dom.

But it does remind me of all the lunkheads the last two years who went on and on about how the Mets would be so helped by the DH :rolleyes::laugh:

His slash line is unimpressive, but as a subheading says, "Vogelbach should represent an upgrade over Dominic Smith as a most-days DH."

Bruuuuuuu!! :woohoo:

I missed you! :crying:

Yeah I thought of you a lot, watching (from afar) this remarkable Mets season.

I have served my time in self-imposed purgatory, so I have returned; a reformed citizen. https://1592792734.rsc.cdn77.org/ima...closedeyes.gif

Remarkable season indeed, led by 10.5 in May and are now almost done blowing it :p

Well, look. Nobody's talking anymore about the Yankees breaking the Mariners' 116 regular season wins record. And, if they had to play the Astr*s all year, they'd probably end up below .500. They are fortunate not to have a team like the Braves behind them.

It's the long run that counts, as experienced fans (who are immune to media hype) know. The Mets seem to have what it takes to have a run at the title this year, with the possible exception of their bullpen. You have to say, after so many seasons of futility, it is a pleasure to see them as relevant in late July, not to mention the second best record in the NL.

The Mets brought in Daniel Vogelbach to fix their DH woes. Not sure if Vogelbah can do much based on his career numbers, but they got him in a one-for-one swap with a rarely used relief pitcher in a crowded bullpen. Worth a shot I guess.

Yes, Dominic Smith seems to be headed for the dustbin of history.

He's hard to understand. He was great in the Covid shorten seasoned and pretty good in 2019. I wonder if teams started attacking him more after the Mets signed Lindor, etc. which shined a microscope on Smith's weaknesses?

Look, BBG, Cod, tejdog, Westheim, and others; I like you guys. But today and tomorrow, it's business. Nothing personal, OK? I will be friendly again on Friday, when you face the Fish in Miami.

(Or sooner, if you let us sweep these two games. :))

Ehhhhhhh, you never can tell! (I can just hear Grandma saying that ... :))

Tell you what: I will root, root, root for the Phillies. Root like heck for 'em, today and tomorrow! That way you lose no ground, at least. ;)

Don't lump me in with Mets fans! The only Met I've ever liked and continue to like is Mr. Met.

Okay, present company excepted, then! :)

Say, the only one being accommodating is Lindor. The rest of these Mets did not get my memo, apparently.

But there is still time.

*Sigh* You fellows couldn't just cooperate, could you? Oh well. I could respond with "Go Braves" but I am a much bigger person than that. Besides, New York is New York, after all. :)

GeoWar 07-26-2022 11:57 PM

the Yankees need pitching ---- and some quality vets.

Westheim 07-27-2022 01:36 AM

Well, we have at least made them share so far. :D

Déjà Bru 07-27-2022 10:20 PM

Woof. Who are these Mets? You know, you used to be able to depend on them, but not anymore. :(

Westheim 07-29-2022 04:03 AM

Mets add Naquin, Diehl in deal with Reds

Horrendous southpaw and a guy that can't hit them. While we gave up a bag of baseballs, I don't see how those two are helping in any damn way...

I guess they're unhappy with JD/Dom? How many more platoon players can they roster?

And Diehl is what happens when you look at your bullpen and decide "OMG not enough lefteiez!!11!"

Maybe there will be some small sample size magic and they put up career numbers for a few weeks.

Westheim 07-29-2022 12:10 PM

I have been unhappy with J.D. Davis basically since the Mets got him... Didn't get me anywhere.
