2299 Week 6 - The Week in Review

3 Attachment(s)
Analysis

For the first week this season, the Diamond City Swatters are not in first place, at least, not by themselves as the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud used a 4-1 week to boost themselves to the second-best record in the CBO behind the Swatters.

The Shroud have been silver hot in May, going 8-2 so far in the month with both losses coming on Wacky Wednesdays. As far as Institute League action, they are an inspiring 6-0 against the Lexington Synths, including the CBO's second-ever no-hitter and two straight shutouts in the series. Starting pitching has been dominant overall, leading the CBO in ERA (2.54) by 1 full point and 16 runs better than Nordhagen Beach for runs allowed (94). Mike Cartrette (6-1, 1.33) threw the no-hitter following his two-hitter last weekend and appears to be on the path to the Pitcher of the Year Award. Brent Hooker (5-1, 3.02) also got in on the shutout action this week.

The members of the Top 5 did not change this week, just moved around in order, with BL-leader The Slog at #3, ML-leader Goodneighbor at #4, and ML-wildcard leader Quincy at #5. The bigger story was huge moves up and down the rankings from #7-23. We will feature some of those teams below, with the biggest risers being Oberland, Roxbury, and Concord, and the biggest fallers being FHE, Jamaica Plain, and Easy Town. Atom remains at #24.

Playoff Statements

Oberland (16-14, 6-game winning streak)

The three-time Railroad League champions flexed their muscles this week, putting them in sole possession of 2nd place in the RL. The T-51s contributed to two of the biggest fallers, dropping the Red Rockets in two and the Yao Guai in three in the battle for 2nd. Things look to only get better in the rest of May as they face 12-18 Warwick four times, 7-23 Atom once, and 12-18 Vault 81 six times to close out the month. Oberland may not catch up with Diamond City this month, but they will probably gain two or three games to get to somewhere behind by only four games heading into June. Do not count this team out!

Goodneighbor (21-9, 8-2 in their last 10)

The Hancocks are tied with the Silver Shroud for the hottest May. Though they dropped two games this weekend to Warwick, Goodneighbor was on an 11-game winning streak before that loss. They are second in the South Charles Association in both runs scored (180) and runs allowed (119) showing that they can grab a win anyway they need to. RF Good Don Duck (.430/5/16) appears to be the early MVP leader in the SCA.

The Slog (21-9, Won 4 straight, 7-3 in their last 10)

If people thought that Nordhagen Beach would easily take back control of the Brotherhood League, they were mistaken as the Ghouls continue to push success. With one 10-inning loss to a good team in Abernathy, The Slog went 4-1, including a sweep over defending NCA champions, the Easy Town Assaultrons who plummeted back to last after getting swept. All of the Ghouls' success comes from their bats, leading the NCA in runs (174), batting average (.294), and four other categories. SS Lernz Tentsleep has been on fire (.344/10/32) and 2B C.T. Woodard (.404/2/20) is among the best hitters in the CBO this season, currently leading the NCA in batting average and the CBO in stolen bases (15).

15 May 2299 - NCA's Star Player Named

Lernz Tentsleep has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 21-year-old shortstop of the The Slog Ghouls had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Tentsleep batted .400 with 10 hits in 25 at-bats, 4 home runs and 12 RBIs.

So far this year in 30 games Tentsleep is hitting .344 with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

15 May 2299 - Quickwalker Takes This Week's Trophy

One of the league's most exciting young players, Deer Quickwalker of the Vault 81 Dwellers earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 20-year-old right fielder had a lofty .500 average (12-for-24), collecting 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Currently Quickwalker is batting .328 with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

15 May 2299 - Sources Report Atom Search Party Obtained Stimpacks

Though the organization has been mum, unnamed sources have reported that the Atom Cats organization has located stimpacks, though where they found them or how many they obtained is unknown.

Commissioner Nate Howard had previously stated that teams would not be allowed to supply their own stimpacks and any available should be added to a settlement's emergency stockpile instead of using them for injured players.

Reports have also come out that Howard was heading to the Atom Cats Garage upon receiving the report. Cats owner Zeke Cat has been outspoken about the detriment of additional injuries to his struggling team. The CBO has been compensating teams for players lost, but some owners and front office personnel are more concerned about wins than caps.

We will report on any follow-ups we may have pertaining to this story. Atom Cats Radio has not been a reliable source regarding the situation, so we at Publick Occurrences await reports from one of our stringers in the field.

16 May 2299 - Cuttooth Excels, But Swatters Win

The Diamond City Swatters jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on to overcome a fine performance by Goodneighbor shortstop Burtie Cuttooth to defeat the Hancocks, 9-8, at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. Cuttooth hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Burt Oldshoe. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Josh Samm earned the save for Diamond City, his 16th of the year.

Diamond City relied on the bat of Danny Suarez to get the win. The second baseman ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Swatters ahead, 5-0. For the game, Suarez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Suarez. "And not try to do too much."

Four different players hit a home run for the Swatters. In addition to Suarez, Wally Warwick, Wayne Lacy, and rookie Oren Gep all added home runs. Bryan Assman added one more homer for the Hancocks.

Diamond City leads the South Charles Association Railroad League by 8 games and won the first game of the battle of the two first-place teams in the SCA.

Tyler Ross failed to get a hit in today's game against, bringing his 20-game hitting spree to an end. The 21-year-old Diamond City left fielder was 0-for-5.

"I'm not disappointed at all -- I had a great run," Ross said. "I got to 20 games. I got my name into an elite group with a bunch of good ballplayers. What's there to complain about?"

This year Ross is batting .389 with 51 hits, 12 home runs, 29 RBIs, 4 walks, .401 OBP and has scored 28 runs.

16 May 2299 - Richardson Hits 2 Home Runs in Deathclaws Win

The University Point Deathclaws topped the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers by the score of 7-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Kory Richardson. Richardson hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Deathclaws on the day. Marc Pondsip closed the game out for University Point, earning his 5th save. The Deathclaws now have a record of 17-14.

Richardson contributed in the bottom of the third. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped University Point get the win.

"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Richardson.

16 May 2299 - Neo, Adamantium Hammer Assaultrons, 10-1

The Abernathy Adamantium trumped the Easy Town Assaultrons, 10-1, at Easy Town Field. Abernathy catcher Dan Neo was terrific. He was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The Assaultrons, at 11-20, have lost 4 straight games.

With Abernathy leading 4-0 in the top of the third, Neo came up to bat against Easy Town pitcher David Hill. Neo hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season put the Adamantium on top, 7-0.

"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Abernathy manager Chase Stingwing.

16 May 2299 - Finch Farm Roughed Up By Radstags

The Concord Radstags coasted to a win over the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 11-3. David Stahl had a good day at the plate for Concord. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Concord is now riding a 4-game win streak.

Stahl made an early impact for Concord when he stroked his 6th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the bottom of the third, put the Radstags on top, 9-2.

"We did a lot of things right," said Stahl.

Danny Honeycutt's 20-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today as the Four Leafs suffered a setback against the Radstags.

Honeycutt went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. He was visibly upset during a postgame press conference, but it appeared that the streak had little to do with it.

"The hitting streak was one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep about it tonight," he said. "On the other hand, I am going to lose sleep about dropping this game today."

This season Honeycutt has hit at a .358 clip with 22 RBIs, 6 home runs and 21 runs scored. He has played in 31 games.

16 May 2299 - Silver Shroud Bump Off Bloodbugs, 12-5

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud defeated the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 12-5, at Hubris Comics Park today. Leading the charge for Fort Hagen was third baseman Micah Morals. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Derek Green picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-1. He struck out 6 in 7 innings. The win for the Silver Shroud raised their record to 23-8.

Morals contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Fort Hagen in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 4-2, Morals took a fastball from Zach DiGrande and stroked the home run to right-center. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Silver Shroud to leap in front, 5-4.

"Feels good to get the job done," Morals said after the game. "This team knows how to be explosive at the plate."

The Shroud blew the game open in the bottom of the seventh. Leading 6-4 at the time, they doubled their score to push the game to 12-4. CF Ben Pawlak had the biggest hit in the inning, hitting a three-run home run for three of his five RBI. Catcher Seemore Mares added a two-RBI double in the inning.

16 May 2299 - Party Boys Win at Sunshine Tidings, 8-2

Nordhagen Beach turned a good effort from starter Julian Shed into a win over the Sunshine Tidings Chemists at ArcJet Systems Stadium. The final score was 8-2. Shed (2-3) picked up the win for Nordhagen Beach, going 7.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. Sunshine Tidings now has a 5-game losing streak.

Nordhagen Beach relied on the hitting of Jonathan Angelou to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Party Boys on top, 3-0. For the game, Angelou had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Said losing manager Cozy Burmaster: "Give the Party Boys credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."

Jon Hitman and Ryan Combs had three hits apiece for Nordhagen Beach, Combs had two doubles and scored twice. Jalen Wharton had two of the Chemists' five hits, including a double. He scored once.

17 May 2299 - It Happened Again!: Kawolski Hurls No-Hitter

It was the game that pitchers dream about: the no-hitter. Before this season, there had only been one in the CBO. Now there are two more in four days.

It happened today at Graygarden Park. Sheng Kawolski of the Oberland T-51s was right on target against the Warwick Mirelurks in a 6-0 victory. Kawolski zeroed in on them, holding them hitless with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk. His 4th-inning walk of Mirelurks 1B Straight QuaLiTy prevented the first-ever perfect game.

"I just had it all today," Kawolski told BNN reporters after the game. "Very good stuff and great location. That is a combination that's hard to beat."

On the year Kawolski has worked 52.1 innings with 65 strikeouts en route to a 4-2 record and 4.64 ERA. Though he has struggled early this season, he said that this outing shows he is "on the right railroad bus."

"Look, we got a business to run," he said. "I'm a busy man. Got things to do. People to see. Been on my own since I was eight. I'm a fully independent man, well, except for my wife, Nat. But today, I am a happy man. Now let's all drink to my success."

17 May 2299 - Witch Hats Win on 9th-Inning Salami

Behind the hitting of Antonio Toeclaw, the Salem Witch Hats stopped the Starlight Lady Killers, 9-6. Toeclaw was 2 for 4 with a grand slam in the 9th and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Witch Hats. Salem reliever Kevin Marsh was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Larry Undertaker. The win has Salem at 13-19.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Salem trailing 6-5, Toeclaw hit a cutter from Undertaker for a grand slam home run, giving the Witch Hats the walk-off win.

"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Toeclaw told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."

Hats 2B Kody Downing also had a successful day at the plate, going 4 for 5 with a double, two runs, and an RBI. Dan Ackerman hit his 8th home run of the season.

Damani Beebe and Ryan Raider each homered for Starlight.

17 May 2299 - Hancocks Best Swatters, 7-3

The Goodneighbor Hancocks beat the Diamond City Swatters, 7-3. Goodneighbor pitcher and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, native Bruce Iddings led the way. The winning pitcher was Iddings, now 5-3. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. Goodneighbor is now 22-10, 2 games up in the South Charles Association Minutemen League.

The Hancocks got a big at-bat from third baseman Jason Juras. For the game, Juras went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Goodneighbor a 4-3 lead.

Iddings called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."

Jumper Hayes was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs. Wayne Lacy and Wally Warwick each had two hits for Diamond City. Lacy homered for the second-straight game.

17 May 2299 - Bloodbugs Edge Silver Shroud, 6-5

Tattoo Woolf was instrumental in his team's 6-5 triumph over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. The shortstop went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the County Crossing Bloodbugs. The Bloodbugs sport a record of 13-19.

With County Crossing leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Woolf hit a cutter from Matt Hope (5-1) for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Bloodbugs ahead, 3-0.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Woolf.

Danny Neikirk (1-0) got the win in just his second career start, beating the previously unbeaten Hope. Jim Tiller led the Shroud with three hits, going 3 for 4 with a home run, a run, and two RBI. David Driftwood added a two-run homer for Fort Hagen.

17 May 2299 - Party Boys Bounce Chemists, 8-5

The 8-5 Nordhagen Beach win over Sunshine Tidings was due largely to Dustin Mart. The Party Boys first baseman hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Derek Gist, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-0. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Night Demon Archacki recorded the save, his 14th.

In the top of the first of a scoreless game, Mart hit a 2-run home run to put his team ahead.

"We came out aggressive," said Party Boys manager Craig Robinson. "We came out swinging the bats. The Slog is not going away, so we need to keep doing this."

The last-place Chemists have dropped 6 straight games. Jalen Wharton hit his first home run for Sunshine Tidings since he had two in the team's first three games of the season. He finished with two hits, a run, and two RBI.

2299 is definitely looking to be quite the season. You'd think there'd be more excitement at the start of a dynasty (and there was, to be fair), but completely organically, we're just having a great all around season, especially from a neutral's perspective, but also from the perspective of fans of the certain teams those of us who are vocal support.

Also can't remember if I said the Nuka World insights were great, but they're great too, really carry the torch from one of my favorite segments highlighting the wasteland settlements.

I'm still excited for all teams out there and have stories in my head for all of them. I'll be honest, though, I am currently hating that Oberland is hot again. I love the concept of parity in a young league, so it sucks that they are always right in the butt of a trophy every season so far. With their slow start, I was going Roxbury or Vault 81 or Egret or FHE could step in with the T-51s missing the playoffs. Otherwise, I can live with any other team making it or winning it right now.

One thing I have found is that certain players have made their marks as stars. I am trying not to "hand of God" this dynasty like I do for some of my others--well, to clarify, I definitely have "hand of God" aspects, but those are randomized through dice rolls and random.org random numbers.

Now, one thing I definitely need to figure out is how to get my NWL numbers to what I want. It is making me angry to see that 5 of 8 teams are batting below .200. I thought the numbers should be the opposite where teams are scoring too many runs, so I am dancing around there needing to be some structural changes to the parks or mounds or something. However, until I start testing adjusting numbers in the middle of the season, this first NWL season is going to have a .225 batting champion.

18 May 2299 - The Slog Trades Redplate for Sunshine Tidings's Traderman

There were plenty of hugs and handshakes all around as 21-year-old minor league RHP Dan Redplate left the The Slog Ghouls today en route to joining the Sunshine Tidings Chemists organization. 28-year-old C Fon Traderman will be traveling to The Slog Ghouls to complete the swap.

Redplate will now be playing for his third team this 2299 season after he was traded from Lexington to the Chemists just three weeks ago. In four appearances this season with the Union Hope Lifegivers and Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks, Redplate has a 0-0 record with a 6.35 ERA in 5.2 innings. He is considered to be a decent future reliever in the CBO, but he needs to develop his control much better and work on improving his fastball effectiveness.

Traderman joins the Ghouls after three-plus years with the Chemists as their former starter, current backup catcher. The 18th-round pick in the CBO Inaugural Draft, Traderman has played in 109 career came with 98 starts. He has batted .306 with nine home runs and 56 RBI in his career. It is yet to be determined if Trademan will become a regular player with The Slog, but the organization is unhappy with Tony Edgewater's production and may be sending a message.

18 May 2299 - May 2299 - The Slog's Tarberry Wineyard to Welcome Party Boys

The Slog opened its new winery, the Tarberry Wineyard, this week and its first guests of honor will be the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys who are playing the Ghouls in a battle for first place in the Brotherhood League.

Holly Berry, owner of the Tarberry Wineyard, expressed her welcoming to the Party Boys team and how they would make perfect guests for the grand opening.

"What now? We're throwing a monster's ball," Berry laughed. "The party Boys will make perfect strangers for the program. I don't want to sound like the rich man's wife, but I am the queen and this is strictly business. We'll have 50 women and an X amount of men. We even have some living dolls and the cat woman, Deirdre, coming. We're serving swordfish caught at the dark tide. We'll all be like kings. Every guest gets to enter the golden circle and answer the call. It will be like their eyes were watching God."

Berry plans to hold her soiree tonight with robots as servers. Reports are that her different varieties of tarberry wines are quite potent, so it will be important for the Party Boys visiting The Clubhouse to keep their wits about them and drink moderately. Then again, they are the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach team owner Emogene Cabot is reportedly traveling with the team this weekend. Recently it has been reported that she is looking much younger.

Tyke 02-21-2021 04:13 AM

Not liking the sound of this! Here's a fixture that they really need clear heads and sharp wits for. But then again, as Nat W-K said, "they are the Party Boys".....

19 May 2299 - Ghouls Miss Warmups

The Slog Ghouls missed their early afternoon warmups before their game tonight in the battle for first place in the Brotherhood League against Nordhagen Beach.

Last night, at The Clubhouse in The Slog, players from both teams attended Holly Berry's grand opening tasting of her variety of tarberry wines from the newly opened Tarberry Wineyard.

The Party Boys attended the tasting that began at 7 PM, but they politely excused themselves en masse just before 10 PM and returned to the visiting players' dorms. However, many of the Ghouls stayed until well past 2 AM enjoying their local winery.

Ghouls' manager Dick Tricky was not available for comment. However, he seemed to have a purplish hue and an overpowering headache when observed arriving at the field at 5:17 PM for a 7:05 PM game start. Players for the Ghouls mostly arrived later and looked similar to their manager.

19 May 2299 - Teddybear Pitches Red Rockets to Shutout Victory

Chris Teddybear allowed 4 hits while giving up no walks and collecting 11 strikeouts as the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets blanked the University Point Deathclaws, 3-0.

In the postgame interview, the 23-year-old right-hander said he was focused on "trying to keep the ball down and letting guys put it in play."

"It worked for me today," Teddybear said.

To date this season, Teddybear has registered 9 starts, 5-3 won-lost mark, 3.56 ERA, 60.2 IP, 71 strikeouts and 9 walks. Opposing teams have hit .233 against him.

David Seaweed's RBI triple in the 1st inning proved to be the game-winning hit. Cody Flatt homered in the 7th--his 12th--to put him one behind the CBO lead, and Teddybear added an RBI single.

19 May 2299 - Cox Hits 2 home runs in Knuckle Punchers Win

Edward Cox knocked in 3 runs to help Roxbury beat FHE, 5-0. Cox produced 1 single and 2 home runs. Roxbury is in 4th place in the South Charles Association Railroad League with a record of 15-18.

With Roxbury leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Cox hit a fastball from Bow Rome for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Knuckle Punchers ahead, 3-0.

"It was a good effort all around," said Cox.

Scaredy Cat Talbott (1-6) picked up his first win, going 101 pitches in just 5.2 innings. He did not allow a run, allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out three. Bow Rome (3-5) suffered the loss.

19 May 2299 - Mirelurks Lose, 5-1, Stop Gunkill

In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.

Behind an impressive start by Manny McDuff, Quincy beat Warwick, 5-1. McDuff went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 9-0.

Quincy relied on the hitting of Tyler Braggmann to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Gunners on top, 5-1. For the game, Braggmann had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Quincy manager Kevin Banner. "It's usually not just one thing."

Quincy raised its record to 21-12 with the win.

Steve Gunkill's 29-game hitting streak was snapped today. The 33-year-old Quincy Gunners center fielder failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats in the game.

"I don't think the streak was ever a big deal to Steve," Gunners manager Kevin Banner said after the game. "He ain't that type of guy. He just wants to help the team win ballgames."

This season Gunkill is batting .367 with 55 hits, 4 home runs, 18 RBIs, 6 walks, .403 OBP and has scored 31 runs. He has played in 33 games.

19 May 2299 - Party Boys Trounce Sluggish Ghouls, 11-2

Nordhagen Beach starter Tommy Beach kept the sluggish The Slog offense in check, while his team rolled to a win, 11-2. Beach went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-4. With the win, Nordhagen Beach pushed its record to 23-10, giving them a one-game lead over the Ghouls for first place in the Brotherhood League.

Mike Swift, who is tied for 5th in the NCA in triples with 3, aided the Nordhagen Beach cause with a run-scoring triple in the top of the fifth. For the game, the catcher went 2 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Swift.

Ryan Bale, who pinch ran for Michael Fogcrawler in the 6th inning, ended up contributing to the onslaught of the eight-run inning. He scored as a pinch runner and later doubled in a run in the inning. He finished 2 for 2 with two doubles, a walk, three runs, and an RBI. The Party Boys entered the 6th only up 2-1.

"Not our game, not our day," The Slog manager Dick Tricky said. "We were not prepared to be the first place team today. Luckily for us, we have two more days to change that."

Dan Dozier (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

19 May 2299 - Lady Killers Lose, 6-3, at Hubris Comics Park

Safety Langer helped his team muscle past the Starlight Lady Killers, 6-3. In the game, the Fort Hagen pinch hitter went 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Earning his 7th save for Fort Hagen was Curtis Thriceshot. The Lady Killers, now 17-16, have lost 4 in a row.

Langer had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-1 fastball from City Moore, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Silver Shroud a 6-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Langer.

"I felt good up there," said Langer. "I saw the ball well and took my cut when I had a big opportunity to help us win."

SS Seth Dungan was 3 for 4 on the day for Fort Hagen, including his 5th triple of the season in the bottom of the 1st. He scored the Shroud's first run on Andrew Nuka's RBI ground out.

Mike Cartrette had his scoreless streak end in the no decision. In 5.0 innings, he pitched 106 pitches, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Starlight 3B Hubris McBride homered off Cartrette. McBride finished a game-best for his team of 2 for 4 with the homer, two runs, and two RBI. Joe Verti (2-0) picked up the win in relief.

19 May 2299 - Swatters Win at Egret, 3-1

Diamond City Swatters starter Tim Fusion pitched his team past the Egret Ninjas, 3-1. Fusion picked up the win for Diamond City, going 8.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 6-1. Josh Samm locked down his 17th save.

Allen Bishop contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the sixth. With a runner on 1st, he hit a double. It was one at-bat that helped Diamond City get the win. The Swatters scored all three of their runs in the 6th.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Fusion.

With the win, Diamond City upped its record to 25-8.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Fogcrawler.

Jonathan Angelou, Dustin Mart, and Mike Swift all had two hits apiece for Nordhagen Beach. One of Angelou's hits was a home run as back-to-back shot following Fogcrawler's first. Ryan Combs stole two bases to give him 13 on the year, two behind The Slog's C.T. Woodard for the lead.

Kyle Whale had two of the four Ghouls hits, all singles.

20 May 2299 - Toeclaw Helps Salem Cruise to 15-0 Win

"I wish every win came this easy," said Toeclaw.

Hats starter Ethan Lynch (1-5) pitched 8.2 innings of shutout ball before giving way to reliever Little Rat Swickard after throwing 131 pitches. 20 May 2299 - Starlight Beats Fort Hagen, 5-3

The Starlight Lady Killers topped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 5-3, in North Charles Association action at Hubris Comics Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Starlight third baseman Hubris McBride. Earning his 9th save of the year was Larry Undertaker, with Chris Schneier (3-4) earning the victory. Starlight now has a record of 18-16 with the win to break up a four-game losing streak.

McBride had a key at-bat for Starlight early in the game. With the bases empty, he hit a solo home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and gave Starlight an early 1-0 lead. He finished 3 for 5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

McBride called the win "a collective effort."

Seven different players each had a hit for the Shroud. David Driftwood's RBI double in the 4th was their only extra-base hit. Brent Hooker (5-2) suffered the loss.

20 May 2299 - Swatters Win at Egret, 8-6

The Diamond City Swatters topped the Egret Ninjas by the score of 8-6, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Tyler Ross. Ross went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times for the Swatters. Burt Oldshoe earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Josh Samm picked up the save, his 18th.

The Swatters got a big at-bat from pitcher X10-44 Mannson. For the game, Mannson threw 4 innings allowing 2 runs. In the top of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 1st double of the season gave Diamond City a 5-2 lead. They later extended that lead to 8-2.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Ross said after the game.

The triumph puts Diamond City at 26-8 for the season, two games ahead of all other first-place teams in the CBO.

Nuka News Update

All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World

by Evan Guy

21 May 2299 - Two No-Hitters Mark Game 30 for the NWL

On what we are starting to hope will be a historic day for the anemic offenses of the Nuka World League, two teams were held to no hits on the day.

Orange's Rob Thurston (3-0), who is a 1B/SP for the Victory, pitched the complete-game no-hitter and went 3 for 3 from the plate with a run scored. In nine innings, he walked one and struck out 10 in the 5-0 victory over the Grape Painted Ghouls.

In the other no-hitter, Paul Giunta of the Quartz Star Force pulled the complete-game no-hitter in a 3-0 victory at the Wild Gatorclaws. Giunta (2-4) walked two and struck out two on 102 pitches.

"Giunta pitched a great game," Wild manager Mark Wike said, "but let's be honest. Nobody on our team can ******* hit. They couldn't hit a basketball, much less a baseball."

21 May 2299 - Atom One-hit by Eloquent

Atom dropped a 14-0 shutout to Quincy Eloquent and the Goodneighbor Hancocks at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS today. The Cats offered little resistance to Eloquent (6-1), who stopped them on 1 hit, fanned 8 and walked 1.

"It just felt right today," the left-handed Eloquent told reporters after the win. "Even with the radrain, it didn't throw me off my rhythm."

This year Eloquent has 6 wins and 1 loss and a 4.06 ERA. He lost the chance for the no-hitter in the 2nd when Ray McMillen hit a two-out double. Eloquent only allowed on other baserunner in the game when he walked Jake Doucette in the 6th.

In addition to Eloquent, LF Zachary Utsinger had a team-record day, as well as SS Burtie Cuttooth. Utsinger was 3 for 3 with a double, a grand slam, two walks, two runs, and a team record-setting seven RBI. Cuttooth was 3 for 5 with three doubles to tie the team record, two runs, and an RBI.

21 May 2299 - Honeycutt Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle

It was a quite a day for Danny Honeycutt at Finch Family Park.

He hit for the cycle, belting out every kind of hit there is -- a single, double, triple and home run. The Finch Farm left fielder accomplished the rare feat during his team's 8-5 victory over the Salem Witch Hats.

"I never even thought about hitting for the cycle and what do you know, I did it," he told BNN reporters at the postgame press conference. "The cycle really doesn't matter to me, it's the win that's important."

Honeycutt went 4-for-5 in the game with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Danny Honeycutt hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jamie Brenner in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

So far this season Honeycutt has hit .340 with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 23 times.

Peter Tatoeater also had four hits for the Leafs, including two doubles. He scored once. Joe Mahaney and Matt Basile each homered. Chris Deathclaw (2-5) got the win.

Three Salem hitters--Kody Downing, Tyler Spronk, and Dan Ackerman--had three hits apiece, all singles. Chris Treestump's two-out, two RBI double in the 9th was the Hats' only extra-base hit in their 14-hit game.

21 May 2299 - Cornseed Hits 2 Home Runs in Red Rockets Win

A 5-RBI performance from the slugging left fielder Carney Cornseed helped the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets beat the University Point Deathclaws, 13-8. The winner was Ryan Hartley, who threw 113 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 7 runs on 7 hits. Jamaica Plain is now 16-19.

Cornseed had a key at-bat for Jamaica Plain early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and gave Jamaica Plain an early 2-0 lead.

In postgame comments to the Jamaica Plain Citizen, Cornseed said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

21 May 2299 - T-51s Pounded, 17-2

Vault 81 laid the wood on Oberland at CURIE Inc. Field.

Deer Quickwalker, the 2297 CBO MVP, was a vital contributor to the 17-2 Vault 81 victory over Oberland. The Dwellers right fielder was 4 for 6 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Vault 81 is now 15-20, while Oberland is 19-16.

The Dwellers got an important contribution from third baseman Mark Dombrowski, who in the bottom of the third hit a fastball into right-center for a bases-clearing double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Dwellers ahead, 7-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Quickwalker told the Vault 81 Daily News. "It would be nice if we play like this a lot more often."

21 May 2299 - Lady Killers Drop 7-5 Decision to Silver Shroud

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud weathered a fine game by Starlight center fielder Glenn Higinbotham to upend the Lady Killers, 7-5, at Hubris Comics Park. Higinbotham was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Fort Hagen reliever Joe Verti was the winner. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Spider Caddell (0-1). Curtis Thriceshot got the save, the 8th for him this season.

Fort Hagen took a 7-5 lead on Safety Langer's 2nd home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Starlight pitcher Spider Caddell in the bottom of the seventh. The Shroud had tied the game in the sixth with two runs.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Langer said after the game.

The victory gives Fort Hagen a record of 25-10. With the series win, they maintain a five-game lead over Abernathy in the Institute League.

21 May 2299 - Ghouls Top Party Boys, 7-5, Avoid Home Sweep

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys got a sterling performance from right fielder Jonathan Angelou, but the The Slog Ghouls still prevailed, 7-5. Angelou was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Flotsam DiPasquale came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Tiny Greene earned the save for The Slog, his 15th of the year.

The Ghouls got a big at-bat from right fielder Boots Yellowhair. For the game, Yellowhair went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season gave The Slog a 6-5 lead.

In comments to the The Slog Herald, Yellowhair admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."

The Ghouls have an impressive 23-12 record but still trail the Party Boys by a game after losing the weekend series.

21 May 2299 - Swatters Collect 12-4 Win Over Ninjaswith 8-run 11th

The Diamond City Swatters saddled the Egret Ninjas with a loss at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The final score was 12-4 in 11 innings. Wayne Lacy was 4 for 6, including 3 singles and 1 home run. The Diamond City right fielder scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Diamond City pitcher Nick Via got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Surrender Hendrickson (0-2) got the loss. Diamond City has now won 3 in a row with the sweep.

The outcome might have been different for Diamond City, had it not been for Allen Bishop, the 21-year old third baseman. Bishop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put Diamond City up, 5-4. For the game, he was 3 for 6, including 1 double and 2 singles.

Bishop's single was the beginning of the onslaught against Egret relievers Hendrickson and Josh Kish. Each pitcher allowed four earned runs in the decisive 11th.

"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Lacy told the Diamond City News.

22 May 2299 - Rumors out of Nordhagen Beach

With the emergence of rookie Right Fielder Jonathan Angelou, the 11th-round pick in the 2296 Inaugural Draft who has thrived with the absence of usual starter Tomas Jones, rumors are flying what to do with the injured starter.

Unnamed sources out of Nordhagen Beach is that the Party Boys are shopping Jones, their 1st-round pick from the 2296 Inaugural Draft. They will need to wait until he is healthy, but the career .349 hitter with 39 home runs and 182 home runs, is on the block due to his injuries.

In 31 appearances, including 23 starts since Jones went down with an injury, Angelou is batting .355 with five home runs and 17 RBI on 33 for 93 hitting. Angelou can play right field but he is considered to be slightly better in left field which could give Nordhagen Beach more trade options.

Jones is one of the better defenders in the league, which gives him an extreme price tag that other teams may not be able to meet. Instead, it could be possible for the Party Boys to shop Angelou or even one of CF Ryan Combs or LF Michael Fogcrawler.

The biggest need is SS where starter Taboo Richardson can hit for power (4 HR in 2299) but has a putrid .135 batting average, meaning he is usually a sure out in a lineup that depends on getting ahead big early. Richardson is rated as the 23rd best shortstop in the CBO ahead of only Warwick's Jonathan Sapplicker.

One potential partner could be Quincy, which has a decent one-two SS combination in Robbie Adams (the 10th best) and Danny Brainwash (.571 average as a pinch hitter) with Jason Ringer the 8th-best SS prospect with the Postal Square Action Boys. They also have a large need for outfielders, especially right field where Tyler Braggmann is rated as the 24th-best at his position and they only have eight total outfielders in their organization.

Abernathy, Concord, and FHE could be other landing spots in naming teams with compatible needs.

22 May 2299 - Two Cats Suddenly Return, Cats' Number of Stimpacks Unknown

Atom Cats' LF Jeremy Schoolboy returned for the weekend series at Goodneighbor and CF Ed Tarberry will return for their series starting Tuesday versus Egret.

Commissioner Nate Howard traveled to the Atom Cats Garage where they reported having four in stock. Still, some wonder if it was coincidence two starters returned immediately after the report that the Cats had secured an unknown number of stimpacks.

The four were registered to the clinic at the Atom Cats Garage. Publick Occurrences will continue looking into the story.

22 May 2299 - Spronk Selected Top Performer in NCA

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North Charles Association, but last week Tyler Spronk of the Salem Witch Hats reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Spronk rocked opposing pitching for a .400 average (10-for-25), 3 home runs and 12 RBIs to come away with the award.

Spronk currently has a .278 batting average with 40 hits, 8 homers, 31 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a .350 OBP.

22 May 2299 - University Point Shortstop Nets SCA Award

One of the league's most exciting young players, Aaron Nukacola of the University Point Deathclaws earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 19-year-old shortstop had a lofty .722 average (13-for-18), collecting no home runs, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

This season Nukacola is batting .313 with no home runs. He has scored 13 runs and driven in 18.

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Heston Prynne was rewarded with the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors.

22 May 2299 - Weekly Team Power Rankings

For the first time, the Mystic Pines Raybathers are not #1 as the hotter Eastlake Aquaboys take that spot. The Raybathers did not lose their first game of the season until May 11, their 16th game. Now, after dropping the last three to the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors, have won just one of their last five to drop to 17-4.

The Aquaboys have the same record after sweeping Naticks Banks to improve their winning streak to nine straight. Eastlake, the FHE Yao Guai minor league team, have a lot of talent, especially in the infield with top SS prospect Jayden Neo (.352/2/13), to 3B prospect John Yaoguai (.290/0/10), and 4th-best 2B prospect Allen Burmaster (.211/0/3). LF Adam Crook (.321/3/18) has been hitting well from the cleanup spot. Ace Josh Calvit (2-0, 2.55) has been effective. Eastlake has hit well and has good pitching, but they are not dominant in runs (111, 4th in Massachusetts Association) and runs allowed (84, 3rd in MA).
