Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 26 June 2299 - CA Player of the Week Chosen At the age of 28, John Burp might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Bunker Hill first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .813 batting average. For his efforts Burp collected the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 13 hits in 16 at-bats, no home runs and 4 RBIs last week in 4 games. In the current season, Burp has put up a .563 batting average with 18 hits, 1 home run, 7 runs batted in and scored 5 runs. 26 June 2299 - Star of the Week Named in MA All week long nobody could get Cola Dirtman out in the Massachusetts Association and that is the prime reason he was voted the Player of the Week. The Fiddler's Green first baseman took home the trophy by blasting 9 hits in 15 at-bats for a .600 batting average, driving in 5 runs and scoring 3 times. So far this year Dirtman is batting .326 with 4 home runs, 24 RBIs and 15 runs scored. 26 June 2299 - BNN Stats: Career Batting Leaders So, who is the leader in the Boston Minor Union in career extra base hits? Analysis
Sixty games in and we can see that the haves and have nots have started to truly distinguish themselves. Today we will feature the least competitive league, the Railroad, but first, let us take a look at the Power Rankings. The Top 5 is still the same, with a slight shift of Diamond City jumping up one spot to take #2 from Nordhagen Beach, which drops to #3. The Swatters had a 4-1 week, as did the Party Boys. Diamond City dropped their game at home to league-mate Vault 81 (#10). The Boys dropped one game at Institute League leader Fort Hagen (#4). In the opinion of Publick Occurrences, Nordhagen Beach had the better week of the two, but they drop regardless. I guess the same order of the Top 5 was too boring to BNN. The bottom two of the Power Rankings has an interesting twist, as Warwick drops two spots to #24, while Atom moves up to #22. Easy Town stayed at #23, meaning the bottom two teams were 2298 playoff teams, with the Assaultrons making it to the Sole Survivor Series in 2298. Now, both teams can consider themselves sellers to try to build their team to get back in the future. Weekly Team Power Rankings Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (141.0, o) 2) Diamond City Swatters (137.0, +1) 3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (132.0, -1) 4) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (125.0, o) 5) Oberland T-51s (108.0, o) 6) Starlight Lady Killers (107.0, +2) 7) Salem Witch Hats (101.0, +2) 8) Abernathy Adamantium (95.0, +1) 9) Quincy Gunners (95.0, -2) 10) Vault 81 Dwellers (94.0, +3) 11) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (91.0, -5) 12) Lexington Synths (90.0, +2) 13) The Slog Ghouls (89.0, -1) 14) University Point Deathclaws (82.0, -3) 15) Concord Radstags (77.0, o) 16) FHE Yao Guai (77.0, +4) 17) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (75.0, +1) 18) Egret Ninjas (72.0, +1) 19) Finch Farm Four Leafs (69.0, -2) 20) County Crossing Bloodbugs (67.0, -4) 21) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (67.0, o) 22) Atom Cats (60.0, +2) 23) Easy Town Assaultrons (53.0, o) 24) Warwick Mirelurks (52.0, -2) Choo Choo: Breaking Down the Railroad League We are calling the Railroad League. With just 55.6% of the season completed, we do not see a scenario where the top two in the league will change. It will be Diamond City and Oberland as the playoff teams, just as they were in 2998, except the Swatters (#2) are the league leaders where the T-51s won the league the first three seasons. While Vault 81, Egret, FHE, and Roxbury seem to be decent teams, none are able to find wins consistently against the Swatters or T-51s. Diamond City is a combined 17-10 against those four, while the T-51s are also 17-10. That means both teams win the series, primarily, against the lower teams. Oberland's 3-3 season series versus the Knuckle Punchers is the worst record either of the top two has against the bottom four. |

The Nuka Tour Your introduction to Nuka-World and Bradberton by Evan Guy 26 June 2299 - Part 1: Grandchester Mystery Mansion This story is lifted straight from a terminal. You can find it on the intranet at https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Nuka...bottling_plant and https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Gran...ystery_Mansion, slightly altered to fit StLee's universe. History of the Haunted House This mansion was the family home of the Grandchester family, including Hannibal, Morticia, and their daughter, Lucy. Lucy Grandchester allegedly became possessed and murdered her parents, was committed to a mental institution*, then escaped and committed suicide by hanging in the attic shortly after her 18th birthday. An indeterminate time later, this house was converted to a tourist attraction, taking advantage of the high traffic from the nearby Nuka-World amusement park. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615753478 Lucy: Lucy was the daughter of Morticia and Hannibal Grandchester. According to a legend, she killed her parents and was put into a mental asylum. She escaped on her 18th birthday and was found hanging in the attic of the Grandchester Mystery Mansion nine days later in an apparent suicide. Her ghost haunts her family mansion, which was turned into an attraction for Nuka-World. Her ghost can be seen around the mansion several times, disappearing into dead ends when tourists come close. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615753489 Hannibal: Hannibal Grandchester was the father of Lucy Grandchester and husband of Morticia Grandchester. He severely hated his daughter Lucy due to the fact that she was the reason his wife nearly died in labor. As Lucy grew up he would beat her with his cane, which he needed after Lucy attempted to poison him. He later died due to mysterious circumstances when he was found with a pair of scissors in his head. Lucy claimed that he must have fallen onto the scissors, though his fingers were found cut from his hands. Morticia: Morticia Grandchester was the mother of Lucy Grandchester and wife of Hannibal Grandchester. She nearly died giving birth to her daughter Lucy. She believed that evil spirits were possessing her daughter, so she later hired a psychic to help get rid of the spirits in the house. After refusing to give her daughter's doll a kiss goodnight, she was found dead with the doll stuffed in her mouth. She also had rope burns on her wrists, but no ropes were ever found. (StLee's story: not Wiki-based) *Springfield Home for the Mentally Unsteady: Records of Lucy Grandchester were removed for some unknown reason from the town that partially became known later as Bradberton after John-Caleb Bradberton had purchased a large portion of the town for his Nuka-Cola Bottling Plant and Nuka-World Theme Park. Some more mystery about the Springfield Home for the Mentally Unsteady became available after the Great War. There a journal found in a safe from one Gregory Mortimer with dates minus years gave insight to the Lucy saga. Mortimer, through his journal, admitted to being present when Lucy Mortimer died, though he did not believe her hanging was actually a suicide. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615753478 From one entry in Mortimer's journal: "The Boss keeps talking, well, singing to me. 'I said, 'I'm hurt.' She said, 'Honey, let me heal it' / And we danced all night to a soul fairy band / And she kissed me just right, like only a lonely angel can / She felt so nice / Just as soft as a spirit in the night (all night), in the night (all night). "'Together we moved like spirits in the night (all night), in the night (all night) / Oh you don't know what they can do to you / Spirit in the night (all night), in the night (all night) / Stand right up and let her shoot through me / Like spirits in the night (all night), in the night (all night) / (All night), in the night (all night) / All night.' "Boss told me, 'She's the one.' Yes, that's right. She's the one. Yes, that's right. She's the one. Yes, that's right. That's right. That's right. I'm back home, and she's the one. She's the one, and that's right." The Grandchester Mystery Mansion Renewal Nate Howard investigated the mansion himself and could find no proof that the spirit there was anything but an imprint. If it is malicious, its power seems to lie in its ability to jump scare guests rather than be able to touch them or harm them. Unless that changes, Howard and Bradberton agreed the strange spirit within would continuously draw tourists. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615753478 According to the Nuka-World terminal, "The house is locked, but entry can be obtained from the Protectron ticket taker working just outside the front entrance. Tourists can buy a ticket [from the Protectron]. "This large building features several accessible floors. The tour of the building is linear, often locking the tourist within until the automated announcer finishes describing the current room and asks them to 'please proceed to the next room.' The tour moves through the main floor, right until the kitchen. In the kitchen is a door that leads to the basement. Inside the basement is a door with a bloody scene. "From the main hall and from the kitchen are three stairs going to the second floor. The doors on the second floor accessible from the main room are all locked and need a key and are opened later as part of the tour. The door accessible through the kitchen is unlocked as it is part of the tour. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615753489 "The second floor has several chambers. The first is rigged with gas and was used for seances. The gas can be turned off by using the terminal in the back left corner. The next hallway ends with dead end stairs and the bedroom of the child on the left. Adjacent to the child's bedroom lies the parents' bedroom. In this room is a door that leads to the attic, along with an exit to the building/tour." |

In honor of one of my favorite sports players ever, Drew Brees. He officially retired today.
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1610115119 The Nuka Tour Your introduction to Nuka-World and Bradberton by Evan Guy 26 June 2299 - Part 2: Grandchester Mystery Mansion Team name: Cherry Ghoulrillas https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615757360 Stadium: Grandchester Mystery Mansion Park Team President: Kali Dunmore Kali is the daughter of Brett Dunmore and Monique Dunmore, former Gunners who took up residence outside of Nuka-World. When Nuka-World reopened, she was eager to be the manager of the Grandchester Mystery Mansion. She does not usually enter the facilities, spooked by the "living" ghost inhabiting it. However, she did open a beautiful office in the Grandchester Mystery Mansion Park grandstand where she makes most of her executive decisions. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615757360 Her parents run one of the area's largest homesteads, growing multiple crops for the Bradberton/Nuka-World area. On top of that, the former Gunners were key contributors to Nate Howard's Operation Open Season, taking pleasure in blasting away fleeing raiders when Howard opened fire on Nuka-Town USA. The Dunmores believed that the raider lifestyle was a plague and desired a united and civilized wasteland. Team Nickname: Ghoulrillas https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615757360 The ghoulrilla is a ghoulified gorilla living in Nuka-World. They are most likely offspring of the original gorillas kept in the Safari Adventure zone of the park. Years of radiation have turned them into ghoulish creatures. Ghoulrillas are very similar in appearance to gorillas. However, these have scabs and scratches located around the body, with scraps of fur torn out as well. Their face is very rough and worn, with many skinless patches. The eyes are very dark or lacking pupils. Their size varies. Team Photo https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1615757390 Players to Watch LF Andre Garden (.260/15/48) Drafted in the 26th round, #207 overall, in the 2299 NWL Inaugural Draft, Garden has been a pleasant surprise as a draft steal. The NWL leader in home runs and RBI, Garden is the offensive push the Ghoulrillas need to stay in most games. Garden may also be one of the best defensive outfielders in the NWL, making him a potential MVP. He is also quick, which could mean an eventual move to CF. At 30, he is in his league, but the NWL will be happy to have him the next 5-10 years. SP Justin Hodges (9-3, 1.62) Another of the top pitchers selected, the first pitchers were not taken until the 4th round when every team selected one. Hodges was the 7th pitcher taken in that round. Scouted as a reliever--originally by the CBO, which he passed on--because of his strong arm, Hodges has been working harder than any other to move past his fastball-slider array to add a developing curveball, forkball, and changeup. Hodges currently leads the NWL in wins and is 5th in ERA, making him a potential Nuka Cannon Award winner. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 27 June 2299 - Finch Farm Trades Lockpick for Orange's Coltrain It's all done except the paperwork. The Finch Farm Four Leafs and the Orange Tourists have agreed to a trade that will send 27-year-old minor league RF David Lockpick to Orange, while 19-year-old 3B Andy Coltrain will be shipped to Finch Farm. A top front office executive with the Four Leafs described the trade talks as "quick and easy." "We're glad to get this deal done. We think it's something that helps our ball club and it didn't take too long at all to sort this one out," he said. Lockpick was originally selected by the Four Leafs in the 16th round of the 2296 CBO Inaugural Draft. In 96 games with Finch Farm, he never started a game. 27 June 2299 - Egret Ninjas Ship Estate to Abernathy The Egret Ninjas announced a deal with the Adamantium today, sending 30-year-old RHP Gary Estate to Abernathy for 21-year-old C Goose Bohinski. It had been talked about for the past few weeks and everything came together late last night. All players are expected to be joining their respective clubs shortly. This year Estate has a 4-6 record and a 5.67 ERA. 27 June 2299 - Egret-Salem Trade: Bertha for Bellingham The Ninjas and Witch Hats announced a deal that was completed today. Egret sent 22-year-old LHP Tony Bertha and a 4th round draft pick to Salem for 22-year-old minor league RHP Ryan Mills, 22-year-old minor league RF Governor Bellingham and a 5th round draft pick. Both teams appear happy with the outcome of the trade. The general managers told the Baseball News Network they felt the swap was beneficial for all parties involved. Checking out his stats for the season, Bertha has registered 7 wins and 2 losses in 12 starts, 2.70 ERA and struck out 80 batters in 96.2 innings. 27 June 2299 - Marble Fires Shutout in Lexington Victory Tristan Marble of the Lexington Synths was right on target as he blanked the Finch Farm Four Leafs 5-0, yielding 4 hits and totaling 15 strikeouts and no walks. "I had everything working today and I got some help from my defense, too," Marble said, speaking to BNN reporters after the game. "They saved my butt a few times." Thus far this season Marble has posted a 4-7 record, started 16 games, struck out 79 batters in 104.2 innings and compiled a 3.78 ERA. 27 June 2299 - Razor-Sharp Oldsink Blanks Diamond City It wasn't easy but John Oldsink made it look that way. Oldsink silenced the Diamond City Swatters, 5-0, in a Goodneighbor Hancocks triumph at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Oldsink said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 1 walk and 3 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." For the season Oldsink has compiled a 9-4 record with a 3.49 ERA. 27 June 2299 - Beebe Hits 2 Home Runs in Red Rockets Win Jamaica Plain took on Oberland in front of a lively crowd. The 9-2 Jamaica Plain win over Oberland was due largely to Damani Beebe. The Red Rockets right fielder hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The victory gives Jamaica Plain a record of 31-30. Cody Flatt took Matt Udder deep in the top of the second. His 2-run home run put the Red Rockets on top, 2-0. In all, Flatt had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4. "Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Flatt. 27 June 2299 - Party Boys Cut Down Chemists, 10-7 Michael Fogcrawler helped his team muscle past the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 10-7. In the game, the Nordhagen Beach left fielder was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The winner was Mike Waterdrinker in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Nick Michelsen took the loss. Tom Mannequin was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 10 save opportunities. Fogcrawler had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the seventh, when he hit a run-scoring single. The Party Boys went on to win. "It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Craig Robinson. With the victory, the Party Boys upped their record to 44-17. 27 June 2299 - Witch Hats Trip Silver Shroud, 5-3, in Extra Innings The Salem Witch Hats stopped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 5-3, at Vim! Park of Salem. The Witch Hats got a big game from Chris Treestump, who went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Salem raised its record to 33-28 with the win. The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Treestump hit a changeup from Curtis Thriceshot for a 2-run home run. The Witch Hats, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. "What a buzz," said Treestump after it was over. |
Seems like the departure of Tomas Jones has worked out well for the Boys. Angelou has stepped up and Mannequin, acquired in the trade, seems to have become a model closer (see what I did there?)

I wonder how Night Demon Archaki feels since he was doing just fine as the closer before (Just looked it up--he loves Mgr Craig Robinson, so he's all good). I don't think GM Brendan Kneecapped cares since the Party Boys may not have the most complete pitching staff in the CBO. Sure they don't have a dominant ace like Mike Cartrette or Tim Fusion or Sheng Kawolski, but every pitcher gives them a chance to win every game. As far as Angelou is concerned, I just realized when checking out his stats that he is not a rookie and I need to quit referring to him as such. He was actually on the roster enough games in 2296 and 2298 to make him officially a second-year player with this now being his first year as a full-time starter. Still, he most certainly had a ratings jump in Year 4 of the league. He was the Party Boys' 11th-round pick in the 2296 Inaugural draft, but he had not shown the talent to play over some of the other guys. It may have been his fortune to see Jones get hurt or he may have never seen the field and would have ended up somewhere else. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 28 June 2299 - BMU: Martinson Pitches Rayguns to Shutout Victory Deedee Martinson* of the Cabot House Rayguns whitewashed the Forest Grove Mole Rats 8-0 in a complete-game win, limiting them to 1 hit while chalking up 7 strikeouts and giving up 3 walks. "He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys," Cabot House manager Fourth Wall said to BNN reporters after the game. "Deedee is poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff." This season Martinson has compiled a 6-3 mark with a 3.31 ERA in 10 starts. 28 June 2299 - BMU: Action Boys Hurler Roberts Tosses Masterpiece The Vault 95 Robobrains had no answer today for Postal Square Action Boys pitcher Rapid Roberts. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 5-0. Vault 95 managed only 2 hits off Roberts, who had 10 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Roberts got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Action Boys fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible." 28 June 2299 - Cats Defeat Knuckle Punchers, 8-6, in 11 The Atom Cats weathered an outstanding game by Roxbury center fielder Edward Cox to topple the Knuckle Punchers, 8-6, in 11 innings. Cox went 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Scruffy Taguchi was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities. The last-place Cats have won 5 consecutive games. The most important at-bat for Atom came in the top of the 11th inning, when right fielder Baywatch Fischler stroked a full count slider to left for a run-scoring single, putting Atom up, 7-6. In postgame comments, Fischler said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth." 28 June 2299 - Schneier Goes Distance in 7-1 Win Starlight pitcher Chris Schneier did his part in helping his team beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 7-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Starlight now has a record of 34-28 with the win. Schneier scattered 5 hits over 9 innings for the Lady Killers. With the win, Schneier moves to 5-6 on the year with 78 strikeouts. "I had everything working," said Schneier. Alec Bullets, second baseman for the Starlight Lady Killers, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 25 games with 1 hit in his club's 7-1 victory today. "Not the outcome we wanted," County Crossing manager Biff Future said. "There's never a good time to lose, and it's never fun to be on the wrong end of somebody else's accomplishment." Alec Bullets grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th. To date this season Bullets is hitting .313 with 4 home runs. 28 June 2299 - Gatekeeper 3-4, Leads Mirelurks to Win A 4-RBI performance from third baseman Tutton Gatekeeper, who is on pace for 68 RBI this season, led the Warwick Mirelurks to a win over the Egret Ninjas, 6-3. Brian Bridges, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 2-1. Sheffield Williams earned the save, his 13th. With Warwick leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Gatekeeper hit a changeup from Nick Poppa for a grand slam home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Mirelurks ahead, 6-0. "We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Gatekeeper. The win has Warwick at 23-39. 28 June 2299 - Party Boys Drop Chemists, 6-1 Starting pitcher Julian Shed was a major factor in the 6-1 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys triumph over the Sunshine Tidings Chemists. Nordhagen Beach raised its record to 45-17 with the win. Early in the game, second baseman Brian Masterson had a 3-run home run for Nordhagen Beach. So, I mean, I guess it's clear by now you're doing *something* with the injury situation that isn't vanilla, and maybe I missed an explanation, but could you explain what. (Or don't, if you want to keep it a mystery). I mean, *I* know what a stimpack is, though your other readers might not, but I figure you have done something to the game-auto generating injuries, like having it off the first few years and only turning it on now, etc, with a few more complicated stipulations. This isn't a complaint. No, far from it! I'm just curious, as always, about what you're doing "under the hood".
