Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 18 August 2299 Gep Goes Deep Twice in 18-7 Swatters Win The Diamond City Swatters dumped the FHE Yao Guai, 18-7, in large part due to first baseman Oren Gep. On the day, Gep went 4 for 6 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6 for the Swatters. Diamond City, at 67-29, has already clinched the South Charles Association Railroad League. With Diamond City leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Gep hit a fastball from David Kiwi for a 2-run home run. It was his 23rd home run of the season and put the Swatters ahead, 3-0. "If it's down the middle," said Gep, "you might as well hit it." Juras Swats 2 Homers, Hancocks Top Mirelurks, 12-6 The Goodneighbor Hancocks relied on the hitting of third baseman Jason Juras to stop the Warwick Mirelurks, 12-6. For the game, Juras hit 2 home runs. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2. Goodneighbor is now 64-32, 5 games up in the South Charles Association Minutemen League. Good Don Duck was a prime contributor to the Goodneighbor win. He was 3 for 6 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. In the top of the sixth with no one out, the two-time All-Star hit a 2-run single. It made the score 6-4, in favor of the Hancocks. "It was a solid team effort," Juras said. "That's usually what it takes to win." Boohoo Excels, But Dwellers Win The Egret Ninjas got a superb performance from first baseman Kyle Boohoo. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Vault 81. The Dwellers won the game, 10-9. Boohoo slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Vault 81 reliever Dave Caveman picked up the win, upping his record to 8-4. Chris Grandchester was saddled with the loss. The win boosted Vault 81 to 52-44. Sam Farland helped the Vault 81 cause in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases empty, he hit a solo home run. "It wasn't a pretty victory," said Farland, "but we got it done." Vault 81 and Egret have been advised by the league commissioner that the Dwellers' Knud Bather and the Ninjas' Nick Poppa have been suspended 5 games each for instigating the brawl at today's game at CURIE Inc. Field. This year Bather has collected a .265 batting average to date with 93 hits in 351 at-bats, 64 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 52 times. He has played in 91 games. Poppa has gone 4-13 this season with an ERA of 6.24 and 129 strikeouts in 145.2 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .311 against him. Witch Hats Win Nail-Biter, 3-2 Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The Salem Witch Hats topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys by the score of 3-2, with the biggest share of the credit going to center fielder Mike Castillo. Castillo went 5-5 with a double and 4 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Witch Hats on the day. The triumph puts Salem at 51-45 for the season. Runs were scarce in this one. So, Mike Laughingman's at-bat in the top of the tenth was vitally important. With two out, the Salem catcher drew a walk against reliever Tom Mannequin (0-1), driving in 1 run, to give his team a 3-2 lead. "Exciting game to play in," said Castillo. "Getting the win makes it even better." Castillo doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, and singled in the 10th. This year Castillo is batting .290 with 7 home runs and 36 RBIs. Despite the loss, the Party Boys clinched at least a wildcard in the Brotherhood League thanks to The Slog dropping a 10-8 decision to Easy Town. Nordhagen Beach needs just one win over Salem this weekend to clinch the BL title for the second straight year. Silver Shroud Drop 8-0 Decision to Adamantium The Abernathy Adamantium and starting pitcher Gary Estate stifled the Fort Hagen offense en route to a comfortable 8-0 win at Tato Field. Estate got the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed 9 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Estate allowed no runs. With the win, Abernathy pushed its record to 53-43. The tension was thick in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Fort Hagen trailing 3-0, Gary Estate had to get a big out. On a 1-1 fastball, he retired Jim Tiller, who grounded out. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 19 August 2299 Ninjas Paste 6-4 Loss on Dwellers The inspired effort of Vault 81 right fielder Deer Quickwalker was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-4, to the Egret Ninjas. Quickwalker was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Egret goes to 47-50, Vault 81 to 52-45. Tony Tamez had a key at-bat with two out in the top of the fifth for Egret. With the bases loaded and the Ninjas leading 2-0, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. "It was a solid team effort," Tamez said. "That's usually what it takes to win." Go Leads Ghouls to 10-5 Win Over Assaultrons The The Slog Ghouls powered past the Easy Town Assaultrons, 10-5, at Tarberry Field Forever. Millioncap Go went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once, to lead the charge. The victory gives The Slog a record of 51-46. The Slog left fielder Chris Van Benschoten staked his team to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning, when he grounded out, driving in 1 run with the bases loaded. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Go. Arasmith Sensational for Knuckle Punchers Starting pitcher Jack Arasmith did his part in helping the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers thwart the Oberland T-51s, 2-1. The Knuckle Punchers go to 35-62 with the win. Arasmith scattered 4 hits over 8 innings for the Knuckle Punchers. With the win, Arasmith goes to 2-8 on the year with 44 strikeouts. "I had everything working," said Arasmith. Adamantium Turn Back Silver Shroud, 4-2 Abernathy shortstop Austin Engill helped his team beat the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 4-2. Engill, who is on pace for 68 RBI this season, went 1 for 1 for the Adamantium. Abernathy reliever Kyle Hooch picked up the win, raising his record to 3-1. Matt Demented was tagged with the loss. T-Bone Heagy recorded the save, making him 21 for 25. Abernathy catcher Dan Neo had a key at-bat for the Adamantium in the bottom of the eighth inning. Facing right-hander Matt Demented, Neo hit a 2-run single. It put Abernathy in front, 4-2. For the day, Neo was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. Engill called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem." With the win, the Adamantium hiked their record to 54-43 and in sole possession of second place in the Institute League. Witch Hats Spill Party Boys, 7-0 Salem Witch Hats pitcher Roberto Gonzales was all business, helping his team muzzle the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 7-0. The triumph puts Salem at 52-45 for the season and delays the Boys' chance to clinch the Brotherhood League by at least one more day. With two out in the top of the second, Tyler Spronk barreled up a changeup from Tommy Beach. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Witch Hats in front, 5-0. "It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Gonzales told the Salem Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight." Hancocks Drop Mirelurks, 6-5, with Late Score The Goodneighbor Hancocks turned back the Warwick Mirelurks, 6-5, at The Homestead. Bryan Assman, in particular, had a fine performance. He hit 2 home runs. Matt Lambda picked up the win in relief for Goodneighbor, while Dave Kovalenko took the loss. The first-place Hancocks have won 4 consecutive games. John Rose had a nice at-bat for the Hancocks with one out in the top of the eighth. With a runner on 2nd, the center fielder hit a run-scoring double, which would prove important in the Goodneighbor win. "This was a good win for us," said Assman. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal." Yao Guai Tagged with 8-4 Loss Starting pitcher X10-44 Mannson pitched well enough to help the Diamond City Swatters beat the FHE Yao Guai, 8-4. Mannson went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 12-4. Diamond City has now won 3 in a row. Danny Suarez hit a 2-run home run off Peak Sizeman in the bottom of the second, which put the Swatters ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Suarez had 1 double, while going 2 for 4. "Feels good to get the job done," Suarez said after the game. Gunners Take Down Deathclaws, 2-1 The Quincy Gunners went home winners at The Stone House, thanks in large part to starter Colt Finley. Finley stifled the University Point Deathclaws, enabling Quincy to grab the 2-1 win. Quincy raised its record to 60-37 with the win. In the bottom of the tenth, Josh Radcake knew he could end it with one good swing of the bat. And he did, hitting a run-scoring double off University Point pitcher Marc Pondsip. "Exciting game to play in," said Finley. "Getting the win makes it even better." The math is in the favor of the Quincy Gunners. The club can no longer be ousted from a playoff position, with a berth in the postseason now a guarantee. Quincy boasts a 60-37 record and will be looking for the 1st Sole Survivor Series in team history. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 20 August 2299 Roxbury Knuckle Punchers Ship Treadway to Concord The Baseball News Network is reporting that the Knuckle Punchers and Radstags have consummated a trade. Concord will receive 26-year-old 3B Sean Treadway in a swap for 36-year-old RHP Giving Tree. A league analyst called the trade a "fairly even transaction." Tree has taken the mound for 30 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 4-2 record with a 4.42 ERA. The Roxbury reliever has limited opposing batters to a .329 batting average. Abern Helps Oberland Cruise to 11-3 Win Oberland took on Roxbury in front of a lively crowd. The Oberland T-51s coasted to a win over the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 11-3. Jonathan Abern had a good day at the plate for Oberland. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. The victory gives Oberland a record of 49-49. Abern had a key at-bat for Oberland early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and gave Oberland an early 2-0 lead. "Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Abern told the Oberland Daily News. Quickwalker Stars in 10-4 Dwellers Win The Vault 81 Dwellers beat the Egret Ninjas, 10-4, at CURIE Inc. Field. Deer Quickwalker, in particular, was impressive. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. With the win, Vault 81 raised its record to 53-45, four games up on Oberland for the Railroad League wildcard. Mark Dombrowski, who is on pace for 78 RBI this season, helped out the Vault 81 cause in the bottom of the first inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the third baseman went 2-4 with a double and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. "I still think this team can play even better," Dombrowski told the Vault 81 Daily News. Wharton, Chemists Beat Radstags, 6-3 The home crowd had a good time watching the Concord Radstags and Sunshine Tidings Chemists get after it. Jalen Wharton was instrumental in his team's 6-3 triumph over the Concord Radstags. The first baseman went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Sunshine Tidings Chemists. Chris Lueckenhoff got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7.1 innings. Handsome Frank earned his 15th save in 19 chances. Brightsun Ramos, who is tied for 9th in the NCA in doubles with 32, came through for Sunshine Tidings with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. The right fielder was a perfect 3 for 3 in the game, including 1 home run and 2 singles. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in. "Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Wharton told the Sunshine Tidings Citizen. Sunshine Tidings is now riding a 3-game win streak. Nordhagen Beach Rallies, Clinches BL The first-place Nordhagen Beach Party Boys picked up another win. This time, it secured them as Brotherhood League champions for the second year in a row. The Party Boys topped the Salem Witch Hats, 6-3, in North Charles Association action at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Nordhagen Beach pitcher and Belmont, Massachusetts, native Chet Arthur. Tom Mannequin got the save, his 15th in 16 chances. Ryan Combs, who is tied for 7th in the NCA with a .986 OPS, aided the Nordhagen Beach cause with a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. "Chet is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. Nordhagen Beach, at 64-34, is 12 games up in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League. Adamantium Lose Late, 7-5 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud beat the Abernathy Adamantium, 7-5, at Tato Field. Fort Hagen left fielder Andrew Nuka had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner was Matt Demented in relief. His record improves to 3-5. Kyle Hooch took the loss. The Silver Shroud have an impressive 64-34 record and push their Magic Number to 1 with the win. Fort Hagen used the timely hitting of Bixton Moore to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Silver Shroud ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one. "I just tried to make good contact," said Moore. Hancocks Deal Mirelurks 4-3 Defeat Goodneighbor Hancocks starter Quincy Eloquent was in fine form against the Warwick Mirelurks at The Homestead, leading his team to a win, 4-3. The Hancocks own a robust 66-32 mark. It could have been a different outcome for Goodneighbor, had it not been for Burtie Cuttooth, the 19-year old shortstop . Cuttooth contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Goodneighbor up, 4-0. "Quincy was pounding the zone," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. Swatters Win Thriller, 5-4, in 13 The Diamond City Swatters picked up a win at The Great Green Jewel, knocking off the FHE Yao Guai, 5-4. Starting pitcher Tim Fusion was a big reason why. Diamond City reliever Noah Williams picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Dave Crowfoot shouldered the loss. Diamond City is now 69-29, 16½ games up in the South Charles Association Railroad League. The Swatters relied on third baseman Allen Bishop for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 13th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal. "This place was rockin'," said Fusion. Gunners Slingshot Smacks 5 Hits 5 times is the charm -- at least for Curtis Slingshot. The Quincy Gunners first baseman tore up the University Point Deathclaws to the tune of 5 hits in 6 at-bats at The Stone House today. The offensive onslaught from Slingshot powered the Gunners to a 7-6 win. "Slingshot was a tough out today," University Point manager Woody Lumpkin said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure." Curtis Slingshot singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, and singled in the 11th. Currently Slingshot has 16 home runs and a .299 batting average. |
The Swatters' rise, and the emergence of a certain star for them, maybe means all we need to do is have patience sometimes, and even the teams down in the dumps can make a strong run in this league. It's still going to be hard to pick who I want to win come playoffs though.
|
I know the Boys have been out in front for most of the season but, given how they've stumbled in the last few days, it's a relief to see them clinching.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 21 August 2299 Ramos Chosen #1 Player It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Brightsun Ramos, the Sunshine Tidings Chemists 20-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 11 hits in 18 at-bats, compiling a .611 average with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Ramos is presently hitting at a .361 pace with 24 home runs, 76 RBIs and has scored 71 times. Gep Week's Top Player So far in his young career, Oren Gep has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the South Charles Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 21 August 2299 CA Star of the Week Announced Curtis Yellallot is respected by most Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters fans for his no-frills style of play. The 19-year-old right fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .500 average (5-for-10) with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. This season in 65 games, Yellallot has hit at a .268 clip with 68 hits, 15 home runs, 44 RBIs and 38 runs scored. Hayes Picked MA Player of the Week 19-year-old Hopper Hayes, younger brother of Goodneighbor's Jumper Hayes, made a few Somerville Place headlines during this past week as the rookie shortstop proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Massachusetts Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort. He cracked 9 hits in 11 at-bats to put up a .818 average. Hayes collected no home runs, 1 RBIs and scored 4 runs. Presently Hayes is batting .228 with 1 home run and 15 RBIs. Analysis
The South Charles Association is beginning to look a lot like the dominant association again. Winners of the past two Sole Survivor Series, the SCA now sports the top three teams in the CBO's Week 19 Power Rankings in Diamond City, Goodneighbor, and Quincy. Of course, the NCA's two best, Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach, round out the Top 5. We also officially have half of the playoff teams set, with every team from the Top 5 clinching a spot, except the Silver Shroud. Of course, all the Shroud need are a win or Starlight and Abernathy to each lose a game. Since the Lady Killers and Adamantium meet in the final weekend, at least one of those two teams will do that, which means, Fort Hagen HAS clinched a playoff berth, but the standings represent the numbers minus the schedule influence. Therefore, with 10 games left to play, the Shroud could go 0-10 and will still be guaranteed with at least tying for the Institute League title. Otherwise, there are few big movements in the Rankings. Atom (#19) is now tied for the worst record in the CBO with County Crossing (#22) and Roxbury (#23) after going 7-3 in their last 10. Warwick is now the 24th team after they have gone 1-9 in their last 10. Weekly Team Power Rankings Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Diamond City Swatters (138.7, o) 2) Goodneighbor Hancocks (128.2, +3) 3) Quincy Gunners (123.0, o) 4) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (120.6, -2) 5) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (116.6, -1) 6) Abernathy Adamantium (104.2, +1) 7) Vault 81 Dwellers (102.3, -1) 8) The Slog Ghouls (99.5, o) 9) Starlight Lady Killers (98.2, o) 10) Salem Witch Hats (96.5, +1) 11) Lexington Synths (90.5, -1) 12) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (87.7, +3) 13) Oberland T-51s (87.0, +3) 14) University Point Deathclaws (84.2, -2) 15-T) Egret Ninjas (81.3, -2) 15-T) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (81.3, -1) 17) FHE Yao Guai (73.1, o) 18) Finch Farm Four Leafs (70.5, o) 19) Atom Cats (69.3, +3) 20) Easy Town Assaultrons (68.1, -1) 21) Concord Radstags (66.5, -1) 22) County Crossing Bloodbugs (61.3, +2) 23) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (57.3, -2) 24) Warwick Mirelurks (55.1, -1) Peeks at Peops RF Brightsun Ramos, Sunshine Tidings He won't see the playoffs for the fourth straight season, but the Sunshine Tidings Chemists' Brightsun Ramos is in the running for the NCA's Nuka-Hitter Award. Ramos is the NCA's leader in total bases (252) and falls in the Top 10 in a number of other offensive categories. In fact, his biggest threat appears to be Starlight's Zeldolph Violet. The two are tied for 6th in batting average (.361) with Ramos leading in homers (24 vs 22) but trailing in RBI (78 vs 76). Violet has the top WAR (5.7) while Ramos is #3 (5.0). SP Terrence Artman, Salem As the 4th overall pick of the 2296 CBO Inaugural Draft, Terrence Artman was supposed to be one of the dominant pitchers of the CBO. He started the 2296 season looking that way, but then faded out to a 10-8 season with a 5.50 ERA. The next two seasons looked just as dire, including losing a Brotherhood League high 11 games in 2297 before the leagues merged in 2298. In 2299, he is suddenly starting to perform the way he was expected to, going 14-5 with a 2.96 ERA in the Witch Hats' legitimate bid at being a playoff team. He is still behind ex-teammate Mike Cartrette now of Fort Hagen in the Vim! Pitcher Award pursuit, but Salem will be happy if Artman is the starter in their first-ever playoff game. 2B Jumper Hayes, Goodneighbor He gets overshadowed by several of his standout teammates, but Jumper Hayes is a star without the ring of fame to place him atop. With Bryan Assman as a reigning MVP, Good Don Duck as last season's playoffs MVP, Quincy Eloquent as a legitimate #1 in the league, and John Rose as a sure #3, Hayes seems to fall out of the limelight when he would be the #1 man in most franchises. Still Hayes is #1 in batting average (.377), as well as being Top 10 in seven other categories. Most importantly of those, Hayes (5.7) only trails Assman (6.2) in SCA WAR, making him a potential MVP candidate heading into the final two weeks. SP Manny McDuff, Quincy He never stood out in his first three years, finishing a game below .500 (7-8) in 2296 and at .500 (8-8 and 10-10) in the next two seasons. This season he is 17-4, leading the SCA in wins, with the 2nd-best ERA at 2.93. (Note: Goodneighbor's Matt Pageturner is 11-1 in the SCA but 18-3 overall between Finch Farm and the Hancocks.) McDuff is a big reason that Quincy has a chance to win the Sole Survivor Series in 2299. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 22 August 2299 Fort Hagen Clinches IL with 11-3 Win Andrew Nuka impressed in the 11-3 Fort Hagen win over County Crossing. Nuka, who is on pace for 100 RBI this season, went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The first-place Silver Shroud have their sights set on making a deep playoff run and have begun that journey by clinching the Institute League for the first time. David Driftwood swatted a 2-run double for Fort Hagen in the bottom of the second. The right fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 3 runs and batted in 3. In postgame comments to the Fort Hagen Gazette, Driftwood said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come." Nuka has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Fort Hagen left fielder picked up 3 more today against the Bloodbugs and now has a 20-game hitting streak. "Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being." Nuka hit a two-run home run off Zach DiGrande (4-17) in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. This year Nuka is hitting at a .333 pace with 24 home runs and 92 RBIs. He has played in 99 games and scored 76 times. Bertha Throws 4-Hitter En Route to 8-1 Witch Hats Win The Salem Witch Hats picked up a win at Vim! Park of Salem, taking down the Concord Radstags, 8-1. Starting pitcher Tony Bertha was a big reason why. The last-place Radstags have dropped 4 straight games. Bertha (11-7) was effective against the Radstags, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The left-hander limited Concord to just 1 run on 4 hits over 9 innings with 12 strikeouts. "Winning the game is always the first objective," Bertha said. On Road, Party Boys Top Adamantium, 8-3 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys beat the Abernathy Adamantium, 8-3, at Tato Field. Jonathan Angelou, in particular, was impressive. He was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Derek Gist got the win. He's now 11-7. Gary Estate was tagged with the loss. The win gives Nordhagen Beach a season record of 65-34. With Nordhagen Beach leading 2-1 in the top of the third, Angelou hit a fastball from Gary Estate for a 2-run home run. It was his 23rd home run of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 4-1. "We did more than enough to get the win," said Angelou. Quincy Gets 6-2 Win The Quincy Gunners picked up a win at The Great Green Jewel, knocking off the Diamond City Swatters, 6-2. Starting pitcher Joey Dimes played a key role in the triumph. Dimes got the win, improving to 11-11. He allowed 9 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. Dimes allowed 2 runs. Quincy is now riding a 4-game win streak. It could have been a different outcome for Quincy, had it not been for Ben Pettinato, the two-time All-Star . Pettinato contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Quincy up, 3-0. "You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Dimes told the Quincy Citizen. Hancocks Reel Off Another Win Goodneighbor Hancocks starter John Oldsink turned in a top-notch performance against the Oberland T-51s at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. The result was a win for the Hancocks, 4-2. The Hancocks, at 67-32, have now won 6 straight. Zachary Utsinger dealt the T-51s a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases empty and Goodneighbor leading 1-0, Utsinger, who is tied for 5th in the SCA with a .576 slugging percentage, hit a 2-2 fastball for a solo home run. "I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 23 August 2299 Lexington Releases Top Reliever Arthur Prince Arthur has been having an outstanding season, going 1-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 21 relief appearances in 2299. However, due to a feud with manager Sprole Races and pitching coach Brian Cecil, the Lexington Synths have decided to give him his unconditional release. "Prince was a problem in the locker room and the meeting room," Synths GM Jason Saum said. "We got to a point where we were tired of tolerating his negative energy. Basically, he needed to go, and we hope we're a better team because of it." An already young team, Lexington now has zero players over 30. For their long-term success, the current 4th place team in the Institute League may benefit from keeping its young roster together. Whether or not they will overtake Starlight and Abernathy in the last two weeks is yet to be seen. "Yes, we understand we're in a playoff race," Saum said. "We'll miss his productivity, but feel the team will respond better, especially the pitchers, without having to listen to his *****ing constantly. He was selfish and not very fun to be around." Closer Doug Dee El, 28, is now the oldest player on the Synths. He is 3-5 with 25 saves and a 2.37 ERA. There is no word yet which player will take Arthur's place in the bullpen rotation. Mour Helps Jamaica Plain Cruise to 13-2 Win The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets downed the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 13-2. The hitting star was catcher Ayag Mour. Mour was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Red Rockets. The Red Rockets saw their record improve to 48-52. Mour contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Jamaica Plain in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-0, Mour took a fastball from Scaredy Cat Talbott and stroked the home run to right-center. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Red Rockets to leap in front, 3-2. "That game had disaster written all over it," said Roxbury skipper Turbo Peabody. "I could feel it." Clevinger Now 4-8 After Subduing Party Boys The Abernathy Adamantium picked up a win at Tato Field, knocking off the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 3-1. Starting pitcher Kyle Clevinger was a big reason why. T-Bone Heagy sewed up the save, his 22nd. Abernathy raised its record to 55-45 with the win. Clevinger allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 8 innings for the Adamantium. He walked 1 and struck out 8. "Kyle -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Adamantium manager Chase Stingwing. "He was the key to us winning." Deathclaws Top Ninjas, 7-0, Behind Stallworth The University Point Deathclaws beat the Egret Ninjas, 7-0, at Gwinnett Brewery Park. Starting pitcher Gary Stallworth was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The third-place Deathclaws improved to 49-51. Stallworth scattered 3 hits over 7.2 innings for the Deathclaws. With the win, Stallworth moves to 7-12 on the year with 112 strikeouts. "It's a mindset," said Stallworth. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent." The Ninjas lost to University Point today, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Paladin Danse's 29-game hitting streak. The left fielder went 0-for-4 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Danse, we would win the game," Deathclaws manager Woody Lumpkin explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." Looking at his present stats, Danse has compiled a .319 batting average in 100 games with a .413 on-base percentage, while hitting 35 home runs and driving in 107 runs. Bloodbugs Edge Silver Shroud, 3-2 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud went down to defeat to Danny Neikirk and his County Crossing teammates. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the Bloodbugs. William Whitehurst earned his 15th save in 18 chances. The win has County Crossing at 36-64. Joel Carrotflower, the 27-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Carrotflower contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put County Crossing up, 1-0. Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said. Gunners Beat Diamond City, 4-3 The inspired effort of Diamond City third baseman Allen Bishop was not enough to prevent a loss, 4-3, to the Quincy Gunners. Bishop went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. Quincy reliever Ryan Kazarian picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Blaine Phrasemaker absorbed the loss. Wick Prater closed the game out for Quincy, earning his 28th save. Quincy used the clutch hitting of Ben Pettinato to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gunners ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one. "The vibe's good," said Quincy manager Kevin Banner. "We've got to keep it going." The second-place Gunners have won 5 in a row. Hancocks Prevail, 4-3, Over Oberland The Oberland T-51s got a superb performance from pitcher Sheng Kawolski. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Goodneighbor. The Hancocks won the game, 4-3. Kawolski threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. Goodneighbor now has a 7-game win streak. Had Jumper Hayes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Hayes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Hancocks. "I like the roll we're on," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. |
Lexington's strategy reminds me of what the expansion teams are doing in my 2020 MLB start save... it hasn't worked out for them so far...

BTW, I had made notes about the Arthur family. I have a few family member brothers, but Prince Arthur is the only father of a player. Prince is the brother of Nordhagen Beach's Chet Arthur and the father of Fort Hagen's minor leaguer, Bloody Arthur. |

Shutouts galore!
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507 Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 25 August 2299 BMU: Two Refractors Fight, Get Suspended by Team C.I.T. Ruins Refractors players, CF Alan Steele and RP Jeremy Crowe, were involved in a pre-game batting practice scuffle yesterday before their loss at Union Hope. That got each player suspended three games--or the entire series--next week versus the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks. Steele was set to be in the starting lineup for the Refractors for the first time this season. However, he took exception to Crowe's pitching style, resulting in the two exchanging words before they started hitting each other. Steele was then scratched from the game, as well as Crowe. Now, they will sit and watch when their team attempts to catch Mystic Pines for the Cambridge League title. The Raybathers lead by four games with seven to play. Since starting 10 games with the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in 2296, Steele has been caught in a numbers game in the franchise. He appeared in 14 games as a pinch hitter for the Shroud and 6 with the Refractors. Last season, he hit just .077 in 1 for 13 batting. This season, he played in 13 games, going 4 for 10 on the season. Crowe came to the Refractors after being released by the Roxbury organization. He has only appeared in two games in 2299, going 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA. Neither player is likely to remain with the club following the 2299 season. Hope Shines, Shuts Out Abernathy, 4-0 Matt Hope of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud blanked Abernathy 4-0 on 2 hits. He rang up 12 strikeouts, keeping batters off balance all day long. This year Hope has fashioned a 12-5 mark, 3.83 ERA and pitched 171.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .266 against him and he has logged 120 strikeouts. Jim Tiller hit a two-run home run in the 5th inning, his 21st of the season, to put the Shroud up 4-0 at that point. Howard Miracleman, playing in the place of injured Mark Miller, was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Browneye Slugs Synths to 6-3 Win A 5-RBI performance from Justin Browneye helped the Lexington Synths beat the Concord Radstags, 6-3. Doug Dee El got the save, his 26th in 33 chances. The slumping Radstags have lost 6 straight. Nasty Byrd aided the Lexington cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth. For the game, the left fielder drew 2 walks in 4 plate appearances. "Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Lexington manager Sprole Races. Teddybear Gives Atom Goose Eggs Everything clicked on the hill today for Chris Teddybear as he hurled the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets to a 8-0 shutout win over the Atom Cats, limiting them to 5 hits while recording 13 strikeouts and yielding no walks. He overpowered some batters with fastballs and buckled knees with sharp breaking pitches. "We had our shot at him a couple of different times," Cats manager Paul Stands said. "We just weren't able to get to him." On the year Teddybear has compiled a 14-4 mark with a 3.28 ERA. Party Boys Win at Easy Town, 8-7 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys topped the Easy Town Assaultrons, 8-7, with youngster Ryan Combs playing a key role. Combs was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Party Boys in the win. Tom Mannequin converted his 16th save in 17 tries. Nordhagen Beach improves to 66-35 with the win. They lead their division by 11½ games. Nordhagen Beach relied on the hitting of Mike Swift to pick up the win. The catcher ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the first inning to put the Party Boys on top, 4-0. For the game, Swift had 1 triple and 2 singles in 4 at-bats. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. Gunners Fall Short at Goodneighbor, 5-4, on Walk-off Zachary Utsinger helped his team muscle past the Quincy Gunners, 5-4. In the game, the Goodneighbor left fielder hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Goodneighbor reliever Tiny Greene was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Ryan Kazarian. The winning streak has now reached 8 games for Goodneighbor and cut their magic number to two. They just need one more win in this series to clinch the Minutemen League and set Quincy as the #3 seed. The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Goodneighbor trailing 4-3, Utsinger hit a curveball from Ryan Kazarian for a 2-run home run, giving the Hancocks the walk-off win. "It's great to see the crowd jacked up," Utsinger said. Yao Guai Down Swatters, 6-2 The FHE Yao Guai picked up a win at BosCom Circle, taking down the Diamond City Swatters, 6-2. Starting pitcher David Kiwi was a big reason why. Kiwi went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 5-8. The 'W' lifts FHE's record to 44-57. Po Greenzone dealt the Swatters a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with a runner on 1st and FHE leading 1-0, Greenzone hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring double. Greenzone said his team "played with focus." |

I am trying to keep things organized, but it is tough, especially since a lot of my time has been taken up so I am mostly just trying to pump out daily results as much as possible.
There are quite a few (offseason) storylines I have sketched out, but I did not put as much time into as I thought I would. I may spend part of my summer writing stories. I am considering doing something different again rather than daily results. It may switch to a weekly format by the 2300 season. |
