There obviously will be multiple stables, except they will be run by a computer manager. It's just a matter of allowing more than one "user" manager to be created. I don't mean online. I'm talking about on the same PC. Sure, I make it sound like it is a piece of cake, but I don't even know if this is possible. Every boxing management game I have played has been a "one player" game. I guess this is what I'm asking Andreas, is this possible????

Hello!

Yes, it sounds like a piece of cake, but of course it isn't :) Furthermore it's too much work for too little benefit, because there are not many people who have the 2nd player (or 3rd, 4th and so on) at home. If I would add multi player gaming, then I would add something which works across the web. I have that on the list, but not for the first version of the role playing game, because it's just too much work.

I think it would be good if the "Swarmer/Pressure" style would be added to the boxer, slugger, either categories.

Here's why.

Some guys are pure boxer (Ali). Others are pure slugger (Foreman). A pure slugger is the easiest style for a pure boxer to cope with. On the other hand, the swarmer - pressure fighters (like Frazier) gives them fits.

That's how Jake LaMotta's swarmer/pressure style of fighting put the first loss on Ray Robinson's record. Swarmers aren't generally one punch knockout artists. They land an accumulation of punches. Aaron Pryor was another great swarmer/pressure fighter.

A good example of guys who fit into each of the 3 categories are:

Pure Sluggers: George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Stanley Ketchel & Rocky Graziano. Pure power.

Pure Boxers: Ali, Willie Pep, Gene Tunney, Billy Conn, etc.

And in the game, we have fighters that can do both like: Roberto Duran.

Typically, if the skill levels are comparable, it works out like this:

1. Boxers have the style edge over sluggers (Ali-Foreman, Ali-Liston)
2. Sluggers have the style edge over swarmers (Foreman-Frazier, Gene Fullmer-Carmen Basilio.
3. Swarmers have the style edge over boxers (Frazier-Ali, Harry Greb-Gene Tunney, Carmen Basilio-Ray Robinson)

It's not that one style is better than the others, but certain styles give other styles problems even if the fighter isn't always victorious.

It would give the game an additional dimension with the matchups.

*Just a side note: Some punchers, like boxer/punchers can be a mix of Slugger/Swarmer. In other words, they can do either. In the beginning of his career, Mike Tyson fought mainly as a Swarmer/Pressure fighter. When his training dedication took a nose-dive, however, he fought as a slugger - looking for the one big shot and the follow-up flurry to end the fight. He was much more effective as a swarmer.

*** Agreed....love this one

Great!!! That you are thinking of implementing this in the future is good enough for me. Thanks for the reply!!!

I agree ... get the RPG into the next version then on the next OOTP break look into multiplayer either hotseat or over the internet.

Just started thinking that the betting module may finally get a use (from me at least) in the RPG game. Could be a way to earn money for your gym.

Andreas, I'd absolutely use a multiplayer version....but as you imply...one step at a time!

I strongly hope that TBCB3 features better, more sparse commentary, fewer knockdowns due to body punches and either better "animated" boxer graphics or none whatsoever.

Id like to see some buddy mcgirt like stoppages and also an ocassional "hiatus per jail sentence" since it seems to be pretty common" lol

I don't really look at it as an RPG game myself. It's merely a sports management simulation like OOTP Baseball or Championship/Football manager.
Baseball Mogul....Front Office Football etc etc etc.

You manage a boxing stable instead of a baseball team or a football team.

You are 100% correct .. RPG just seems the easiest way to say it. I see Inside the Park as an RPG.

Editable default cornermen.

Well, with the announcement of OOTP X coming out soon, I thought I would dig out this old thread, maybe TBCB 3 will be getting some love in the near future.
Gotta keep the dream alive.

I would like to see the ability to manually set a "minimum date between fights" individually for each fighter. This would allow the autoscheduler to have some fighters very active and some guys spend a long time between fights.

I really like the global option as it is now in the autoscheduler, but would like to see this taken to another level.

Cap 02-22-2009 08:37 AM

I would like the game to make the actual fighters appear in the room in front of you and you could talk to them......hey, it has as much chance as the rest of the ideas in this thread. Let's face it, guys. We're in a recession now and OOTP is the only thing that seems to be making money for Andreas and company. Why waste precious hours on a niche game of a niche sport in the niche genre of text-based sports sims?

Havent posted in a long while...I have lurked and read.

2 years since this original post...since then 2 more versions of OOTP have come out...another is on the way. In my opinion, the rollplay version of this will probably never come out. If you search the forums, it appears that this has been in discussion for over 4-5 years. I have this game as is, its great for historical replays and (if you have time and great desire )for homemade universes. It appears that this is a niche sport game ( and I LOVE BOXING...its my favorite sport) and that OOTP is the flagship of this company (hence the name of the company).

In my estimation, there will be a more ambitious boxing game developer down the road (that is not to say Andreas is not ambitious...but that this is not the company's focus) that will create a full blown role play.

Hopefully, OOTP Developments will automate the careers and there will not have to be spreadsheets and 100% care to be able to maintain a universe. There are a lot of people who dedicate a lot of time to maintaining uni's ( and that is awesome).... I am sure others dont have the complete time (with twins, a job, grad school, and other life issues). Now I know some of you guys swear by the spreadsheets...and thats awesome. I have tried, but Im just looking for something more automated. A long while back I tried World of Boxing. That had the right idea, but it was put together awfully. I ve always thought that TBCB was put together incredibly, but any future ideas were stunted because its a niche sport and because OTTP developments is (and has to be) more dedicated to OOTP baseball.

With that said, I have purchased OOTP from version 4 and on...and if they can automate baseball and all of its rules and situations, I am sure they can automate a boxing universe ( or at least so that you can do everything in game and not have to inker with everyones career stage).

Im just babbling....and I am not trying to be disrespectful. As it stands as a historical replay engine, it is great as is. I just remember in 2005 posting a lot and being pumped for a roll play. Creating a boxer and having to go through the ranks within the game. Creating a stable of fighters. Trying to negotiate my way to getting my fighter a title shot. I am sure some will say...hey you can do that....use spreadsheet a and do this....while is it ultra inventive and creative, it is not something i have complete time to do.

In anycase...thanks for listening...and dont be too hard on this poster from yesteryear.
