Are you experiencing lots of crashes?

Since it seems some people have a lot of crashes and some have none, I'm looking to pinpoint a common theme with the crashes vs system spec and setup

if you have a crash

1. Tell me how you can make the game crash
2. Tell me about your system, processor type, speed, ram, graphics card etc
3. Make sure you can get the crash to repeatable state in a save game (this helps if we need to grab the save game because we cannot crash it!)

Marlinfan 06-02-2006 08:24 AM

Right Marc, I've tried this 4 times already, I'm the Florida Marlins playing Los Angeles Dodgers.

My game crashes every time top of the 1st, 1st pitch.

I have tried this is on both, SION Broadcast & SION Webcast, same problem.

I've managed to save my game on that day, so if you need me to send you my save game file it wont be a problem & you can get straight to the problem.

My computer specifications are as follows.

AMD Athlon(tm) 64x2 Dual Core 4400+, 2.20 GHz
1.93 GB Ram
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series,
ATI Radeon X300/X550 series,
2 x 300gb harddrive, the one I'm using has 269gb free space.

Monitor resolution - 1280 x 1024

If you need to know anything else, just let me know, I'll be glad to help.

Daz

Just hearing the words AMD here makes me wonder and takes me back to some old CM bugs with that processor chip.

Please send me the file marc _ duffy at sigames . com

Marlinfan 06-02-2006 08:30 AM

ok Marc, sending it you now.

Hope you aren't hinting for me to buy a new processor ;)

Marc Duffy 06-02-2006 08:31 AM

Nope. we'll have to do some debugging on AMD machines!

battists 06-02-2006 08:42 AM

I'm hopeful we'll be able to work through this. Like Marc said, it seems to affect some people but not others, which makes some sort of conflict suspicious. I took a few minutes this morning and tried everything listed in the earlier threads about this, and I can't get the damn thing to crash. :)

It would be great if you could get Marc the saved game. It will be very telling to find out if the same game crashes on one of the "non-crashy" computers.

Thanks for your patience, everyone. :(

Marlinfan 06-02-2006 08:43 AM

Marc, I've tried using winrar to compress it & it's still too big, any ideas?

The file zipped is 23mb

I can send it via AIM if you like, my AIM is marlins711

Erik W. 06-02-2006 08:44 AM

I was going to say that I have an AMD machine and I've had no crashes. But then I remembered that my computer is piled in the corner of our spare room and that this is my fiancée's Intel machine I'm sharing. :(

Actually, I have had one crash. I'm actually about to try to replicate it. I started a league with no minors affiliated and a pre-season amateur draft. I set the league to sim 10 seasons for history, and while I was browsing the web, I got a "Player not drafted!" error on a loop. So I had to hardkill the game. When I came back to it, it was in January of the second year of the league, and continued on normally... except that it no longer held an amateur draft during the simming, despite being set for one. It kept setting the date of the draft as being one year away from that date.

That's my one crash, if you want to count a hardkill as a crash.

I suppose I'll put this in a proper post of its own if I can get it to do the same thing again.

jdettbarn 06-02-2006 08:48 AM

I have AMD and no crashes at all.

(I am pretty sure it is an AMD 3200+ 64-bit processor.)

It actually runs much faster than OOTP6.5 too.

This is the 2nd time I've had one of my games to crash but if I can help get it fixed then great, I'll happily help out in any way possible.

Ok! Cool!

zuty 06-02-2006 09:17 AM

I'm doing a fictional league and just messing around with things to see what I can do.

I just changed a team's city (and abbreviation) from Kings County Kings (KCK) to Genovese Kings (GEN).

First the game crashed (three times) when I tried to sim a season. So I tried simming day-by-day, and had no problem.

Now I've simmed into the next year, but when I go to view the reports, and specifically go to "History", I crash again. Every time.

I'm running:
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Dell Dimension 8400
Pentium 4 (3.4 GHz)
2.0 GB of RAM
ATI Radeon X800 SE

Help?

zuty 06-02-2006 09:58 AM

I seem to be able to create this "History" bug a bunch.

After creating a league, if I add a division and/or move teams from one division to another, the "History Bug" begins. That is -- from this point forward, the game crashes whenever I try to view the "History" page from the SION report site.

I launched the reports in an external browser, and from there, I can actually get to the right page, but it is not complete. The HTML ends partway through the page, and there is no history of the league there whatsoever.

And something about this HTML (maybe that it's incomplete?) is leading to OOTP2006.exe's repeated crashes.

Is there something I don't know? Like -- you're not supposed to do X, Y, Z when moving teams from one division to another?

This severely limits what I was hoping to do with this game. I enjoy creating fictional universes to rebuild the history of baseball. This obviously requires expansion and relocation of teams. While the game seems as if it supports this sort of thing, the fact that it's crashing so easily seems to be a bit of a problem.

Please help...

Marlinfan 06-02-2006 10:03 AM

Marc, I had a little trouble with my e-mail server, which is why it took so long but you should have it now.

Hope this helps you to fix the game.

The crash just happens everywhere. You don't really need a save file from me, since even the quickstart can crash.

Milo 06-03-2006 02:28 PM

Marc I get a crash to desktop everytime I hit the action button, or right click on a player (ie to try and resign him)

My system specs are intel 2.6 p4 with a raedon 9000 graphics card with 2 gigs of ram
Thanks milo

blackrussian 06-03-2006 03:31 PM

i created a moderately large universe, a combination of MLB and several custom Japanese leagues. The creation was ok but as soon as i hit autoplay (until next season), the game crashes.

however, i was able to save the entire setup as a quickplay before it crashed if you want to look at the universe/setup.

i have a 2.8g intel 4, win xp, 128mb graphics card.

fenrrris 06-03-2006 04:04 PM

I'm running a fictional MLB universe with full minors and am crashing repeatedly at one spot: Managing the Red Sox versus (I think) the Orioles, every time the game finishes and leaves me at the box score I click "Leave Game" and get a Windows Unexpected Error message.
I'm running Windows XP on a Pentium 4 2.66GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM and a Mobility Radeon 7500C with 32 MB of RAM.
I have yet to try quick-simming past the game, so I can send files if necessary.
And thanks for the proactive support!

MetsFrigginFan 06-04-2006 02:15 PM

Addline crash

1. Tell me how you can make the game crash-- Made it to June 15 (Draft)...

Error message appears: add_line_to_txt_file - could not open target file for writing
2. Tell me about your system, processor type, speed, ram, graphics card etc
amd 2500+ ,1gb ram, xfx5700le,SATA HDD

if uwant me to send it ill send it

biggamejrs 06-04-2006 03:05 PM

1. Different points. I get this "invalid player_id in scout" when I try to accept a position with my 3rd or 4th manager.
I also get crashes to the desktop at different points.
Also crashes when I try to add a bookmark...
2. WinXP SP2
Pentium M 1300 MHz 256 Ram
Mobility Radeon 9000 Display adapter

Let me know if you need my file.

DaveM0 06-04-2006 03:12 PM

Crashing every ~9 games when I play a game out and click to exit the end of game box score.

AMD 3000+
1GB Ram
WinXP SP2

EDIT: Should also mention I crash when I click on "view game log". But I dont save them so maybe that is why it is crashing, but I don't think the program should crash; just tell me I don't have that option on.

treedom 06-04-2006 04:44 PM

I've had one crash so far. It was when I tried to access a game log that wasn't there (because I had turned them off).

swampdragon 06-04-2006 08:43 PM

I've posted this crash, but I'll repeat:

1. Created fictional league starting in 1890
2. Imported Chief Zimmer (an 1890 player, who it is doesn't matter)
3. Tried to advance to the next day. The game crashes immediately.
4. If I don't import a player, I can advance with no problem, so that has to be it.

This sounds like it might be same issue I am having using autoplay in a universe with MLB and an added fictional league.

What part of this thread exactly was fixed?

I am experiencing a similar problem as blackrussian. In my universe I created a fictional MLB level league. Had one subleague. Had one division. Had four teams. I also created a AAA level minor league for this league. Same exact setup, 1 subleague and 1 division with 4 teams. Creation process went smoothly but everytime I try to advance in date I get the ootp2006.exe crash. I went and tried to create the league again under a different name and get the same crash.

My computer: AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 512 MB RAM, Radeon IGP 320M display adapter.

I have been able to create a historical universe but whenever I try to create fictional universes I get this crash.

Marc Duffy 06-06-2006 01:46 AM

TT 1664 was fixed. Apologies

joepman 06-06-2006 02:56 AM

I'm getting a crash when I click action to have my manager set depth charts.

I have an AMD proc and am running Win XP.

It's a standard MAL setup.

Crashing ALOT with in-game manager

Hey Marc,

I'm crashing ALOT (10-20% of the time) when I manage individual games. I'm running a pretty basic setup of MAL with associated minors but no other leagues. The game is stable except when I go into manage mode for individual games. I lose a few games in the middle of the game for no apparent reason. (The most recent crash came after a routine single in the top of the sixth inning). But the vast amount of my crashes occur when a game is completed and I click on LEAVE GAME. I'm not able to provide a specific point since I can't go back and recreate the individual games.

I'm running on a Dell Dimension 8400 with an Intel processor. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

JimG 06-06-2006 09:17 AM

Running this system.

http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs

Already mentioned the Lahman loading freezes. Also crashing frequently during in-game managing. Last two happend right after computer team stole second but before that it was after I struckout.

My Crashes

My crashes have just started :(

Here's what happened each time. I'm managing a game and going half inning by half inning to follow the progress (and see if I need to jump in to save the day). Each time it reaches the sixth inning it crashes.

I'm on a pretty powerful laptop, HP notebook, running Windows. Any other questions feel free to email me:

bgheadjack@aol.com

Thanks - hope this helped.

I'm having the same problem as MetsFrigginFan. During the draft, my game crashes with the message: add_line_to_txt_file - could not open target file for writing

To add a little more information:
1. moving the draft date does not alleviate the crash
2. if the option to have an amateur draft is unchecked, the same error message and resultant crash instead occurs at the end of the year when the game is autosaving
3. Having simmed two different leagues from 1901 using the same quickstart template, the error occurred both times in 1927.

I'm using a 2.0ghz dual core intel with 1gb of ram

greenmonster04 06-07-2006 01:45 AM

repeating, predictable crash

every time I try to advance to the next day, the game crashes right away. If I set the game preferences to save daily, then it will crash, EVERY TIME, when the status bar is at 92% (updating news).

this happens on both my laptop and desktop, and all they have in common is that they are running windows xp w. SP2.

the league is a brand new fictional league (24+ teams), with minor leagues and some INT leagues. I've finished the initial draft, and have been singing free agents and making trades since. It is only day January 23. I believe that I have no free agent offers out, but do have 3-4 trade offers that the AI must process.

I have the error log saved, and can upload the save game if you would like... just let me know exactly what you need.

greenmonster04 06-07-2006 03:32 PM

just wondering if this thread should be stickied...

BigLou 06-07-2006 10:59 PM

I'll bump it for you

rdklein 06-07-2006 11:46 PM

I fast simmed a 1871 league through 1901 and I can't access the history screen for the league or for individual teams. The game crashes when I do. Tried to restart the game, access the history, and it crashed again. I restarted the game, simmed another year and it ran the year without a problem. Tried to access the history page again and it crashed.

Earlier however, I stopped and accessed the history page around 1890 and it worked okay.

I don't really know the specs on this machine. It's a one year old Toshiba Satellite Laptop running XP.

The game is saved now, so if you need to see it pm me.

thnx

my crash report

I have numerous crashes of the "OOTP2006.exe is experiencing a problem and must close" variety. Usually during autoplay of a regular season, but sometimes just working through screens. Eventually every league I have created has crashed in this fashion, damaging the league files (players' names get wiped out).

I love the game, but this is getting so frustrating.

I am running an XP Pavilion 04
Win XP Home Edition
X86Family 15 Model 1 Stepping 2 Genuine Intel~1693Mhz
70 GB HD, 31.1 GB free

Help please!!!

I've spent many many hours doing my league and logos and all the minor leagues and finally started the games and almost every game that i manage it crashes when i go to start the game or when i leave the game. Also another problem i have is that my players have their stats from 2005 but in my new season it is just adding them to their total of 2005. is there a way to change the league to 2006 after i already started? I'm more worried about the crashes though cause i've managed about 10 games and there's nothing more frustrating than wasting my time on games that crash. My computer is old so that may be the reason. It's a Dell Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.00 GHz 1.99 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.

Thank you so much if you can help me cause i've put too much time into this project to quit.

JamesCh 06-08-2006 11:02 PM

Disabled Ticker

Disabling the news ticker in the options in the main menu seems to have stopped my crashes. At least so far.

Not that old!!

I would suggest

a) Starting a new game to see if the crashes are restricted to your save. Whilst we made every effort to retain save game compatibility in some save games it's not possible.

b) If you can, get your save to a position where we can repeat the issues and we'll do our best to fix them issues.

T-Law 06-09-2006 03:18 AM

Sweet!!!!

Disabling the news tracker has worked so far!! thanks man i really appreciate the help.

never_ends 06-13-2006 03:18 AM

Clearly something happens between 10 and 20 years playing a solo career game with fictional players. I've had this problem (read below) with every single league started. Best I remember that would be 9 leagues now. The furthest I've got is season 18, the soonest fatal crash was season 12 best I remember.

The league setups are always the same. 15 team Major League with, AAA, AA, A, Rookie, Japanese, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Cuban. Different options enabled/disabled sometimes but the same league structure.

1. Tell me how you can make the game crash
Same as bug reported previous (Logged as #1610). The only difference is no longer does the error message screen appear as reported previous and logged as #1610, now it goes straight to the IE message OOTP has suffered a problem and must close screen and then fatal crash.

I've created 2 new leagues since installing the patch. The first one lasted to season 14, now it is in fatal crash mode.

I created the next new league, made it to season 18, now it is in crash mode. Stuck on Dec 31, 2018, will not proceed to the next year, crashed it 25 times so far, same each time. The screen SISA Souting comes up, hangs for about 3 minutes slowly working its way to 100%, gets to 100% and hangs for another 2-3 minutes and then the fatal crash screen appears. It started crashing in Sept 2018, then Oct 2018, then throughout Dec 2018. Slowly as I re-loaded the game each time I moved closer to Dec 31, 2018 saving each step of the way, now Dec 31 is the end for sure, 12 crashes.

2. Tell me about your system, processor type, speed, ram, graphics card etc
Windows XP Pro, AMD 1.9 Ghz, 512MB ram, Asus A7N8X, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro - BTW it takes 10 minutes to sim a season with this setup.

Make sure you can get the crash to repeatable state in a save game (this helps if we need to grab the save game because we cannot crash it!)
I have both games still saved, however, I do not think it possible to send to you. I'm on dial-up, took 3-4 hours to download the game when released, can't imagine how long it would take to send a saved game file.

I think I'll put the game down now, wait for the next patch and see if a fix is in there. It is a great game, Markus is a genius, but for whatever reason I can't get past the fatal crash cycle which makes it unplayable for now.
