Anyone remember Bowl Bound College Football?

Did they ever make that for Mac? Wasted soooooo many hours on that game.

Le Grande Orange 02-12-2015 04:36 PM

I never played it but I do remember seeing screenshots of it, and thinking that the interface design was quite attractive.

baseballonly 02-12-2015 05:40 PM

I play it still! It is great, I really love recruiting.

Syd Thrift 02-12-2015 09:01 PM

It's still out there at Grey Dog Software, isn't it? And, unfortunately, still priced at $30.

fullbull 02-13-2015 12:03 AM

Yep, played it as recently as yesterday! Love it, entertains me for hours on end.

Not sure if it's Mac compatible...

What killed that game for me was the many crashes it would have, thus losing everything since the last save. Also, it has a hard limit of 50 some season before the game crashes and will not continue.

This.

It's a fantastic game, by far the best of the college football sims up to this point, but it has a couple of issues. The first, as noted above, is that it's buggy as hell. The second is that the game was released just prior to the proliferation of shotgun spread offenses, and if you want to run a HUNH/spread-option attack, you can only run two running plays (QB draw, RB draw) out of a shotgun formation.

This wouldn't be a problem, but the developer has basically abandoned the game. He's allegedly been working on a pro football sim for seven or eight years now. He had originally said he was going to do the pro game and then come back and do an update to the college game, but both are vaporware now. The playbook of the college game needs a complete rewrite.

simboy 02-15-2015 12:33 AM

Still play it

baseballonly 02-15-2015 11:12 AM

The customization and interface sucks, but the level of detail and accuracy is immense. Someone needs to buy the game and update it.

I spoke to Arlie recently. They have a pro football game in the works too.. Not sure how much time they are committing but I would bet this game shows its face again

Steeb 02-15-2015 12:36 PM

Yeah, I've been seeing news about the pro game for a while now, but have sort of given up hope of ever seeing it come to fruition. Would love to see them go in an fix/update BBCF, because it was pretty close to perfect.

baseballonly 02-15-2015 05:25 PM

If anyone on here still plays BBCF and wants to join an online league, there are some great ones at SimNation Forums

I'd recommend joining the WWCF and taking Arkansas State, unless you are a fan of Notre Dame. (They are open too).

You can join by signing up for the forums and sending a PM to Mike.

Rizzo 02-15-2015 06:05 PM

I had given thoughts a few times to buying BBCF and I was sniffing around SimNation for a league to join. I've held out so far and hoping that BTS will be able to fill the void.

The pro game was announced late 2006. Arlie put up a note from the developer on 1-20-2007. Since then, no screenshots, no real updates on the Grey Dog site. I'm sure Arlie told you they're working on it, but at this point all signs point to them not working on anything. Grey Dog seems to have doubled down on pro wrestling and fantasy games and given up on sports-related games (with the exception of basketball).

The forum dedicated to the pro game hasn't seen a new post since 7-2-2014.

Yeah I won't disagree with you there. The crashes are painful, and I will have to often reset my computer before the game works again. That does suck, but I can deal with that because it's a lot of fun.

Also, saving every 10 minutes or so is a must. Occasionally when I forget to do so, if it crashes it's a nightmare because I lose a fair bit of data!

Dc-eagle 02-16-2015 02:05 PM

Is it by chance still worth a buy? I've been thinking about purchasing BBCF for a few days now but can't really decide if I should get it or not. I've heard some critiques and some really good things about it.

100%. still a great game. Join that league I mentioned, play a few seasons out, read up on a tutorial or two, and you'll be ready to go!

Even with its flaws, it's the gold standard of the genre. But if you think it's imperative to save frequently with OOTP, you ain't seen nothin' yet. If it were possible to make a macro inside that game, I'd have one written to auto-save it every time I changed screens. :p

GeoWar 05-06-2015 12:27 AM

I need to contact them about getting a download for my new computer and get it off my XP.

Is there a site for downloading the game for Windows 7 or 8 ?

BBCF -- Played online league of Gridiron Glory .

He has had that game in the works for 3-4 years now. Seems to be more focused on their wrestling game now.

Rizzo 05-10-2015 04:20 PM

I have constantly been tempted with buying BBCF and joining ta college league but I'm holding out hope for college levels to be playable in this game in the future.

Mike Lowe 05-25-2015 07:10 PM

We're recruiting for a new real-time (weeklly) sim league starting this fall. See my sig for details. Please remove if this is considered spamming, I just thought some folks may be interested.

Sharkn20 05-25-2015 07:31 PM

Uh I still playing it and loving it :)

You have a site to check out?

Mike Lowe 05-26-2015 05:08 PM

Hey, Rizzo, the link is in my signature.

OmahaBaseball 05-26-2015 05:48 PM

Loved this game. It and OOTP got me through the tough times of grad school. Lost the game when my laptop died, have no idea how to get my license back other than buying a whole new copy.

Hanson Bros 05-30-2015 06:28 PM

game needs an update

DD Martin 07-05-2015 06:25 PM

I have played this game off and on for years and it is still a very good game (but the crashes are annoying). It desperately needs an update with all the changes in the game since 2005. Besides the offenses that have changed so much, the conferences, speed of the game etc are all major changes since then.

Here is hoping that someday we will see a college football game like this again, but I am not holding out a lot of hope.

I haven't done any of the online leagues, but several are still out there and i might try one. Overall still a good game and the recruiting is enjoyable.

SirMichaelJordan 08-22-2015 07:23 PM

There's an update available and its currently in beta!

I saw that and while I'm a big college football fan and would love to play a sim football league I wasn't a huge fan of the game when I played the demo. I think I'm going to hold out until BTS comes to fruition to get my football sim fix and then await the playable college level after that.

Yea I feel the same way. I am going to wait and see what new features are put in. I feel the same way about FOF.

baseballonly 08-24-2015 09:59 PM

I would recommend BBCF. I can play it for hours solo and never get tired.

Mike Lowe 08-25-2015 02:08 AM

Hey, guys. We're recruiting for a brand new CFB 2015 league.

Here is the most recent news as we just released the league file today. Our first stage of training camp runs on Wednesday.

www.simsportsglobal.com

With the AWESOME news that Grey Dog has released a 2015 patch which even includes a 4-team playoff, the SSG College Football league has started over (we were only a few weeks into training camp!).

We just uploaded our new league file, and week 1 of training camp gets simmed Wednesday at 12pm noon ET. Our first games will be played September 5th to coincide with the actual NCAA FB season.

Take a look around the site (especially the NCAA FB links), and fill out an application if you're interested!

This looks great - now I just need to figure out how to get my license back after the laptop crash a few years ago.

I'd try sending Arlie an email. He got back to me about mine in a day or two.

SirMichaelJordan 08-30-2015 11:16 AM

I see that staff can be edited now. Are you able to edit offense/defense preference along with name and ratings?

One thing that put me off buying this game was that in my time playing the demo most of the teams were playing a old school offense. Seem like the option (wishbone/t-bone) was played by a large % of AI teams.

getheroff 09-03-2015 12:13 PM

Yes you can edit offense/defense preference for coaches as well as names and rating...but only the OC, DC, and ST Coordinator (not the HC/your own ratings). Yes, Arlie needs to update the game, as the offenses are still a bit old school. But I wouldn't say that most teams run option variants.

I really hope he picks this game up and starts developing it again. The recent update was good, but if he did a comprehensive update of the game and re-packaged it as BBCF 2015/6 I think he would be very successful. There is a huge niche market yearning for a good college football sim and at its core BBCF is a very solid game. I actually posted a message on his forums encouraging him to do so:

Fumbles on Kickoff (and a thank you) - Grey Dog Software

so I would go over there and do the same if anyone is at all interested in college football games.

Mike Lowe 09-04-2015 12:20 AM

We're still recruiting (pun!) for our league that sims week 1 on Saturday!

www.simsportsglobal.com

Fill out an app, and I can try and get you activated ASAP. Please be patient as I'm on vacation in Hawaii for the next week though! :)

Get the game though while it's on sale on Steam!

mickey7 09-06-2015 08:40 PM

If you don't the game Steam is selling the new updated version for 14.99

OmahaBaseball 09-07-2015 09:41 PM

Does anyone know if I could purchase the Steam version but use some of the downloads from the GreyDog website?

xepicx2729 09-07-2015 10:07 PM

I actually have the board game edition. Great game,
