I think finding out about older players is one of my favourite things about PT :)

I had Billy Wagner nab me a 4k inning (and 2500 PP) earlier today.
Nice little PP bonus. |

You could also have Dizzy Dean as well, nice concept!
|
Phil Rizzuto, Jerry Coleman and Don Drysdale say hi.
|
Pirates broadcasters to join the mission: Bob Walk, Steve Blass, John Wehner, Kent Tekulve and Mike McKenry

guess its a pretty big pool.... may have to narrow the focus to national broadcasters from an era : ) Or monday night baseball |

I would love to see how many are done....how 4 k inninges are there? Maybe the devs load a modifier to make them occur? OOTPB please have more stats trackable and sortable overtime : ) |
There are no shortage of players who crossed over into announcing. Many are color commentators, but some become leads (Steve Busby comes to mind, having grown up with him and Jim Sundberg teaming up to call the Rangers on TV).
There are even more if we extend it to broadcasting in general, as many more have also appeared on studio pre/post-game shows. |
Ray Fosse for the 90's A's!
|
I hereby predict they will add this one...how can you not?

Ray Fosse was a pretty good catcher.....my main memory of him is Charlie Hustle busting him up in a meaningless all star game.

Listening to Steve Stone do a White Sox game right now - and BINning him in the AH as I've decided to take the plunge. I'm revamping my L.A.-born team to become a broadcasters team. I already have a decent PP stash (18,000+) and Don Drysdale on the roster.
|
Good news for me - I started looking up some of the players who are already on the team. In Duke Snider's Wikipedia page, I found this:
"Following his retirement from baseball, Snider became a popular and respected TV/radio analyst and play-by-play announcer for the San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1971 and for the Montreal Expos from 1973 to 1986. He was characterized by a mellow, low-key style." So I can keep the Duke of Flatbush (one of the greatest L.A.-born players of all time) on the team as it transitions. I'm also going to apply for Our League membership once I get rid of the Live cards on the roster. I've already replaced Buck Farmer with the aforementioned Steve Stone - five more to go. |
The Cardinals can offer Al Hrabosky, Jim Edmonds, and Tim McCarver from their current announcing crew if you still need to find some players. There's also Mike Shannon and Rick Horton, but I don't think they have cards.
|
From the Dodgers broadcasts we can also add Orel Hershiser and Nomar Garciaparra.
|
Blyleven, Kaat, Laudner and Gladden have all been broadcasters (and still are).
|
Thanks everyone. Keep 'em coming.
In addition to Drysdale and Snider, I was able to keep Mike Krukow and Eric Chavez on the roster. Also, I had Harold Reynolds and Rocky Colavito in my reserves so they've been promoted. And Bob Ojeda and Darryl Strawberry both have done pre- and post-game studio work for SNY in the past. Not ideal, and they'll both be replaced, but I'm keeping them for now to keep startup costs down. I've also decided on a new team name - the Scullytown Barbers. |

You'll need to get Sal "the barber" Maglie. |
Doesn't look like he was ever a broadcaster.

See you in Diamond... |
In the last 24 hours, I've added Bert Blyleven, Steve Blass, Ray Fosse, John Kruk, Phil Rizzuto, Jerry Coleman and Rick Monday to the squad. It is now Our League compliant.
|
SE Tom Seaver and Alex Rodriguez (the 2005 Yankees 85 OVR version) are now on the squad. Seaver joins a formidable rotation with Drysdale, Blyleven and the surprisingly underrated Mike Krukow. A-Rod is the new DH. Eddie Murray (who really is out of place on a team full of talkers) is now on the AH if you're interested.
|
There's also John Smoltz of course.
|
One of my pitchers did that last week with 3 strikeouts. Again with a passed ball. I think i got 1500 PP for the inning.
