Fallout 4's Commonwealth Baseball Organization

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586024326

4 April 2020 - This is my second try at this dynasty, but I feel I have it in order this time.

Disclaimer:
The following dynasty is a Fan Fiction dynasty of the game Fallout 4. I am in no way associated with Fallout, Bethesda Games, or any affiliates thereof. All images used from the game are property of Bethesda Games. I have no financial gains from these images or the characters and locations from within the game.

The Dynasty:
This dynasty will take place after the events of the end of the Fallout 4 game. I am using the Sole Survivor (also known as Nate Howard from the game demo), the main character of the game, as an ambassador in post-war Boston to generate a professional baseball league.

I am liberally using characters, places, and events from the Fallout universe to create this account of my dynasty. You can call it a true fan fiction dynasty because I am diverting from some storylines of the game (like uniting the factions) to fit my fictional needs. Thus there will be some associations that are impossible in the game that I made possible in my rewritten account of the game through this baseball league.

Also, this dynasty includes some Fallout 4 SPOILERS. If you have not played the five-year-old game but plan to in the future, you may want to consider that I am revealing the ending of the game and a few other key elements of the game in my dynasty. Please keep that in mind!!!

Additionally, I am using some language consistent with the language used in the Fallout games, so be aware that there will be adult words used, filter-willing.

As a final note, the logos used in this dynasty are taken from the Fallout Wiki and Google searches. I have created all team uniforms based on those logos. I did not create those logos, nor do I claim them as my property. I am not using them for profit, but only for entertainment purposes. Should a request from the rightful owner of those images ask that they be removed, I will comply.

I hope you enjoy this dynasty. I loved (and miss) my previous Fallout dynasty (Fallout: New Vegas' Mojave Baseball League). Life has changed--I now live back on my original side of the world--and family/job dynamics have limited my time in recent years. I will try to take my time and post when I can.

Now that I have OOTP 21, I look forward to jumping back into the dynasty world. Because of our current world situation of staying and working at home, I hope to commit more time to my creative efforts than I have in many years. I believe it will be good therapy for me.

Dynasty Setup

As opposed to my Fallout: New Vegas dynasty, in which I took a story I had worked on (The Shadow Man) and then converted it into the OOTP and Fallout universes, this dynasty will be baseball-centric.

I still plan to give some life to the universe and add in snippets of the past and other shenanigans of the characters, but I am not devoting as much time to the Sole Survivor as I did with the Courier of New Vegas.

If you are reading this dynasty and there are references you just do not understand, then please ask! For example, you may see me refer to caps or bottle caps. In the Fallout universe, bottle caps have replaced dollars as the currency in Fallout though there are places where paper money and alternative money are used.

SPOILER ALERT:
I am using the original given demo name of the Sole Survival, Nate Howard. In the game at the start of the Great War in 2077, Nate was frozen involuntarily in a cryopod, along with his wife and child. At some unnamed point, he woke up just long enough to see his son taken and his wife murdered. He was frozen again, before finally waking up in 2287 and freeing himself from the cryo vault, Vault 111.

After escaping, the war veteran fought his way through a dangerous and divided Commonwealth. He was able to confront the kidnapper/murderer and eventually located his son. He then had to make decisions about the future of the Commonwealth, including the fate of his son who was no longer the baby he remembered.

In the game, there were four major factions with whom Nate could ally himself. In most cases, allying with one ally meant having to destroy other factions. Bethesda did not give the choice to side with everyone or no one, so players were placed into one of four (with a few variations) boxes to be able to complete the game.

I am choosing to create my own ending where Nate could use the powers he obtained to unite rather than divide the factions. In my world, all four of the factions could play an important role in unifying the Commonwealth, and each of them has greater importance in making the Commonwealth an epicenter of peace that places like the Capital Wasteland can never be. The next post will detail some of those ideas that led to baseball as the Commonwealth's pastime.

One final note: the universe created here coincides with my Fallout: New Vegas dynasty, if I can make it that far to tell the connected story. Otherwise, it's time to set up this baseball league!

History: 2287-2295

History: 2287-2295

Post-Game Spoiler Alerts

2287-2288: Nate's Reign Began

Nate allied with the Minutemen to build up communities
Nate allied with the Brotherhood of Steel to be protectors of the Commonwealth
Nate took control of the Institute from his son. The Institute provided advances in science, farming, and medicine.
Despite the Railroad's protests against the Institute, Nate made peace with the Railroad, which led the charge for synth protection and rights.

2288-2293: War, Peace, and Settlements

With the help of Institute synths and coursers, Brotherhood patrols led attacks against thriving raider groups, including the Gunners throughout the southern portions of the Commonwealth, including Quincy and the Gunner's Plaza.

Community centers were built in Cambridge, Concord, Fort Hagen, Jamaica Plain, Lexington, Malden, Salem, Southie, and Quincy. Other settlements started to establish themselves due to the Minutemen and Brotherhood working together to clear threats such as raiders, super mutants, feral ghouls, deathclaws, mirelurks, and feral dogs and then repair and build structures and turret defenses.

Smaller communities were established as corporate farmlands: Abernathy, County Crossing, The Slog, Finch Farm, Sunshine Tidings, Tenpines, Warwick Homestead, Somerville Place, Oberland Station, and Greygarden, among others.

Parts of Downtown Boston started to get cleared out. After Robert MacCready was elected mayor of Diamond City, he started to expand the parameters of the "city" beyond the Great Green Jewel into the surrounding areas. Crews would clear out and build defensive structures, and more people began moving off the field area and into rebuilt structures for more room and privacy. MacReady started to dismantle shacks on the field area, including Nate's home there, Home Plate.

Corporate interests started to take hold. With a safer Commonwealth, traders in Bunker Hill started to spread out to more desirable locations, establishing their own "territories":
Trashcan Carla - Lexington's Super Duper Mart became a goods warehouse.
Doc Weathers - Established a medical supplies trading center at the National Guard Training Yard.
Deb Merchant and Kay Merchant - Started to supply goods and entertainment near the Brotherhood of Steel Headquarters at Boston Airport. Deb and Kay made East Boston Prep their own headquarters, with the Easy City Downs offering downtime entertainment to residents of nearby Nordhagen Beach and Boston Airport.
Lucas Miller - Lucas made the treasured land, Jamaica Plain, into his own "treasure box," as he called it. Lucas dealt in weapons and armor, but also helped manage the trade of stone from the nearby Quincy Quarry.

Other business enterprises included the following:
Isabel "The Mechanist" Cruz - Built a new robot production factory and service center at Fort Hagen
Arlen Glass - Fixed up Wilson Atomatoys' Corporate HQ, known after as just Atomatoys. He then started producing toys for the Commonwealth's children, including the once-popular luxury toy, the Giddyup Buttercup.

2291-2294: Mysterious Stranger Appeared

No one spoke to the Mysterious Stranger but Nate. Even Nick Valentine tried to investigate the Stranger, but his friend Nate would not tell him anything. On their own, Nate and the Stranger spent a lot of time on the fringes of the Commonwealth. They double-handedly wiped out gang establishments west of the Commonwealth at Nuka-World. Nate spent more of that time also concentrating on baseball and led the construction of baseball parks in each settlement community the Stranger and he visited. The Stranger mostly remained unseen except when needed and always silent in public. He remained a mystery until he was seen no more sometime in 2294. No one really remembers the last time or place he was seen.

2294-2295: Baseball Takes Hold

With the idea of baseball camps given to him by the Stranger, Nate educated many of the youth around the Commonwealth about the fundamentals of the game. Children from 6-18, along with some adults, spent a lot of time learning about and playing the game. Baseball became an obsession of the Commonwealth, taking over as the major pastime over former favorite pastimes such as drinking, fistfighting, and sniping.

Diamond City was fully moved to neighboring buildings with the Great Green Jewel being reconstructed back into a baseball stadium and the headquarters of Nate's ideas for a Commonwealth baseball league. MacCready moved out of the press box as his mayor's office to the nearby Hangman's Alley Hotel, and Nate established his office in the box, looking over the field.

2295: Council of Baseball Executives Established

Commissioner: Nate Howard

Operations and Corporate Interests: MacCready, Moe Cronin, Cait Irish, Sturges Freeman, Desdemona, Gwen McNamara, Daisy Librarian, Arturo Rodriguez, Deb Merchant

Brotherhood Rep: Paladin Danse
Institute Rep: Liam Binet
Minutemen Rep: Preston Garvey
Railroad Rep: Deacon

Media Relations and Coverage: Piper Wright, Nat Wright-Kowalski, Travis Miles, Anne Hargraves, George Cooper, Rex Goodman

Security: Arthur Maxson, Lancer Captain Kells, Selected Brotherhood members

Nate, along with his council, established the incorporated Commonwealth Baseball Organization to begin operations on 1 January 2296. They divided the Commonwealth into four regions that would make up the entirety of its league.

Nate began taking applications for potential owners, coaches, players, and CBO staff. By November of 2295, he had a pool of nearly 1500 players available for the 2296 season based on league rules, giving the OK to establish 24 teams throughout the Commonwealth.

The League

1 Attachment(s)
The CBO was divided into four leagues with each featuring six teams. Because of travel difficulties, the six teams would play the regular season only against their other league members before a CBO-wide eight-team playoff to end the season.

Games would also be played over a three-game weekend stretch only due to various travel problems and some players needing other jobs to help on farms or other labor.

The Brotherhood League: the northeast region also known as Charlestown.
Teams: County Crossing Bloodbugs, East Boston Prep Assaultrons, Finch Farm Four Leafs, Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, Salem Witch Hats, The Slog Ghouls

The Institute League: the northwest region, also known as Cambridge
Teams: Abernathy Adamantium, Concord Radstags, Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, Lexington Synths, Starlight Lady Killers, Sunshine Tidings Chemists

The Minutemen League: the southeast region, including Southie and Quincy
Teams:Atom Cats, Goodneighbor Hancocks, Jamaica Plain Treasures, Quincy Gunners, University Point Deathclaws, Warwick Mirelurks

The Railroad League: the southwest region, including Downtown Boston
Teams: Diamond City Swatters, Egret Scrappers, Fairline Hill Estates Ya Guai, Oberland T-51s, Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers, Vault 81 Dwellers

CBO Teams Pick 27

By Nat Wright-Kowalski

The Commonwealth Baseball Organization convened in the center of Diamond City at the CBO HQ, The Great Green Jewel.

The place that this reporter, as well as the Publick Occurrences office, once called home was the location of the first CBO draft where 1427 young men lined up with the chances to be chosen by one of the 24 teams.

Teams drew from a lottery to determine draft order, with the order alternating from first to last each round. The Abernathy Adamantium were selected to pick first, followed by Fort Hagen, Fairline Hill Estates, Salem, and Quincy rounding out the top five. East Boton Prep had the last pick of the first round and first pick of the second.

By the end of a 10-hour, 23-minute marathon, 648 players were selected in the 27-round draft. Shortstop Austin Engill, who grew up in Vault 81, became the first pick of the draft and first ever player selected by the CBO. After, players not selected were hunted down and murdered.

I kid, I kid. Players not selected then met with teams to sign as at-need players with one-year non-guaranteed contracts. Teams could sign a maximum of 42 players through the draft and undrafted free agency. That is because the Mysterious Stranger apparently once told Commissioner and Commonwealth Overlord Nate Howard that 42 is a perfect number.

Some of the undrafted players left in disappointment or anger. A few were physically removed from the premises.

Below is the list of the players selected in the first round, including a handsome young man this reporter calls "Husband" selected at number 10 overall by the Oberland T-51s.

Another player of note was Brotherhood of Steel representative Paladin Danse, who expressed a desire to play "for at least a couple of years" before returning to his administrative duties. He is expected to name an interim to take his place. In the meantime, he was selected 19th overall by the Scrappers of Egret Tours Marina.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586099998

Location: County Crossing

Nickname: Bloodbugs - Named after the blood-thirsty beasts that were mutated from what was once called mosquitoes, bloodbugs have a long, sword-like proboscis that penetrates deep into their victims and suck them dry.

Owner: Doc Weathers

Back Story: The wide-open area became a central all-purpose farming community thanks to the Minutemen. Settled between Bunker Hill and the rest of Charlestown, County Crossing was an excellent trading center for the Commonwealth. Former caravaner and traveling medicine man, Doc Weathers, decided to take control of the National Guard Training Yard and convert it into a medicine and chems supply station for the Northeast.

Stadium: Beantown Brewery Stadium - Brothers Vadim and Yefim Bobrov moved from the inskirts of Diamond City as local bartenders to producing their own beer through the Beantown Brewery just north of Oberland. Given the opportunity to become a sponsor in the league, they found the Bloodbugs to be a convenient team for them to claim stadium naming rights. The Bobrovs promised to begin production on a stadium special, which they said they would name related to bloodbugs in some way.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586099998

Location: East Boston Prep, aka Easy City, aka Easy Town, aka Brotherhood City, aka The Airport

Nickname: Assaultrons - Named after the feminine-shaped deadly assassin robots that shoot lasers out of their face, the assaultron name is meant to instill fear in its enemies.

Owners: Deb and Kay Merchant

Back Story: With a steady supply of Brotherhood of Steel soldiers passing through from Boston Airport on their way to Boston proper, married couple Deb and Kay Merchant decided to move their business out of the wreckage of Bunker Hill and into a cap trove of young, dumb soldiers looking for food, booze, and entertainment. With the nearby robot races at Easy City Downs and the seaside ballpark, East Boston Prep is a perfect location for Commonwealth baseball. Deb had proposed using the name Easy Town as the location name, though the name has not fully caught on yet in the Commonwealth, especially since old Easy City Downs billboards dot the Commonwealth. For now, the team remains East Boston Prep due to the location of the team's stadium.

Stadium: Easy Town Field - Settled at East Boston Prep, where Kay has made her clinic's location, Easy Town Field is within walking distance of the Easy City Downs track where daily robot races take up most of the soldiers' entertainment. Deb and Kay sponsor their own stadium, so they did not seek outside sponsorship.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586099998

Location: Finch Farm

Nickname: Four Leafs - Named after a prominent symbol of Boston's Irish immigrant past, Four Leafs are meant to instill great luck for their team.

Owner: Abraham Finch

Back Story: The Finches became early supporters of Nate Howard after he saved their youngest, Jake, from the clutches of The Forge gang. With Abraham being a shrewd businessman in combination with successfully farming and providing food to the downtown area, Finch Farm was a no-doubt location for a franchise. Several small settlements nearby were sure to make Finch Farms one of the more popular teams in the CBO.

Stadium: Finch Family Park - The Finch Farm is one of the larger farms in the Commonwealth, growing a number of crops, including corn, melons, gourds, and mutfruit. Because of the wealth the Finch family has accrued, they are their own stadium sponsors, though some companies have attempted to "go green" with them.

Location: Nordhagen Beach

Nickname: Party Boys - Named for the laissez-faire attitude many young people of the Commonwealth have, the Party Boys are representative of their cosmopolitan owner and the sheer number of beach parties happening all nights of the week.

Owner: Emogene Cabot

Back Story: Emogene has been a long-time "girl of society" among the Boston elite. With her secret formula for staying young, many suppose Emogene is older than the war, but she will never tell. Given the prospect of purchasing a place of her own away from her mother and brother's mansion, Emogene built a luxury mansion of her own at Nordhagen and started purchasing extra land across from the Nordhagen Beach settlement where a baseball park was built. Convinced that she would be blessed with an army of handsome young men, Emogene continued her dreams of having a lover or seventeen, and purchased the rights to the Party Boys franchise.

Stadium: Red Rocket Station - Kasumi Nakano, who once left her family for the synth compound Acadia in Far Harbor, followed Nate's advice to use her electrical skills to start her own business upon her return to the Commonwealth. Leaving her family's fishing home just north of Mahkra Fishpacking Plant and with an agreement with Nate that she would convert the Commonwealth's Red Rocket stations into an electrical repair franchise--focused on refrigeration, cooling, radios, and machinery, Kasumi soon built a thriving business. Her first shop opened in Nahant, which was not as far a travel to visit her aging parents as headquarters in Downtown Boston would be. Since Nahant was only a short boat ride from Nordhagen Beach, Kasumi happily tossed her caps into Emogene's hat.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586100923

Location: Salem

Nickname: Witch Hats - Owner Barney Rook described Salem to Bostoners as the "place with all the witch hats." People of the Commonwealth then started referring to Salem as that place, leaving off Rook's other descriptions of Salem, like the "place with all the ******* mirelurks, too." Witch Hats became one of Nate's favorite team names as soon as it was proposed.

Owner: Barney Rook

Back Story: Old Barney has been defending the wastes of Salem for a long time. As the ambassador and mayor of the new Salem settlement, Rook agreed to "let the kids play their stupid games in the street." Instead, a beautiful park built on the coast that doubled as a well-armed lookout post for Barney gave birth to the northeasternmost CBO franchise.

Stadium: The Coven of Salem - No corporations agreed to sponsor the stadium, probably since Salem is the most northeastern franchise, far away from Downtown Boston. Nate Howard helped out by tossing his own caps Salem's way, asking that the stadium be called The Coven. Most of the settlers were unsure what it meant but appreciated having an opportunity for a baseball park.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586100923

Location: The Slog

Nickname: Ghouls - When people think of ghouls in the Commonwealth, they realize there are two kinds, the unfortunate ones and the feral ones. While the feral ghouls terrorize the Commonwealth through their zombie-like desire for eating human guts, the unfortunate ghouls are just discriminated against because of their unsightly skin. Either way, people are intimidated by ghouls, which makes the team nickname a formidable one.

Owner: Mr. Wiseman, aka Wiseman, aka Wiseman Slog

Back Story: Being the top man of the tarberry farms in the ghoul town of the Commonwealth, The Slog, Wiseman was a wise choice to take over the franchise. While ghoul relations have become better since the ghouls were kicked out of Diamond City by then-mayor McDonough, Nate Howard has spent significant time preventing ghoul discrimination. Nate was a major proponent in opening up trading channels for tarberries throughout the Commonwealth and shut down some independent farmers looking to cut into The Slog's profits. As the leading tarberry farming community in the Commonwealth, The Slog provided an ideal location for a diverse baseball fanhood.

Stadium: Tarberry Fields Forever - As a suggestion from Nate, Wiseman agreed to self-sponsor his own stadium and followed the name Nate picked. Wiseman was not sure what the name meant, but Nate seemed to hum every time someone mentioned the name.

Location: Abernathy Farm

Nickname: Adamantium - The indestructible material used to built stronger limbs on war-time soldiers, adamantium represents strength and great defense, a perfect combination for a battling ball club.

Owner: Blake Abernathy

Back Story: The leader of the Abernathy family farm and top tato farmer in the Commonwealth, Blake Abernathy used his built wealth to build a community and used his sizeable land for a top-notch baseball field. Blake Abernathy was one of the first people in the Commonwealth to meet Nate Howard, and a person who held Nate in esteem after Nate avenged Blake's daughter's murder.

Stadium: Tato Field - Named for the Abernathy Farm's top crop, Tato Field's left field wall protects from the outskirts of crops dotting the farm's horizon.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586199463

Location: Concord

Nickname: Radstags - These docile-looking beasts attack anyone trespassing on their territory. The two-headed ungulates feature strong, sharp horns pulsating with a radiation venom that punctures the skin and poisons any potential predators. In other words, radstags are scrappy.

Owner: Sturges, aka Sturges Freeman

Back Story: Sturges was a part of the last stand of Minutemen before Nate Howard came to their rescue at the Concord Museum of Freedom. Sturges then moved on to Sanctuary Hills where he began repairing and building up the community there. That community eventually expanded out of Sanctuary Hills to the Concord area, a place where the bombs damaged but barely destroyed any buildings. Many more settlers started to arrive from the northwest, with many stopping in Concord instead of continuing to Boston.

Stadium: Nate Howard Honorary Park - Sturges ran the town of Concord as its mayor, but the team was financed by Nate Howard's insistence that the team exist. As official owner of the team, Sturges insisted that the stadium bypass any corporate name and keep the name of its benefactor.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586199463

Location: Fort Hagen

Nickname: Silver Shroud - Named after one of the top Unstoppables superheroes of pre-war Boston, the Silver Shroud exemplifies peace, justice, and the American way of freedom from the Commies. His bravery and will are meant to be foundations of the team playing in his colors.

Owner: Isabel Cruz, aka The Mechanist, aka Queen of the Robots

Back Story: After Isabel Cruz retired from her misled life as The Mechanist, she realized that Nate had given her beyond just the gift of her freedom. Using her knowledge in robot design and radio signals, she returned to her Mechanist past by truly doing good in the Commonwealth. Nate Howard suggested that she move her operations to Fort Hagen, which proved to be a key location in eradicating the Rust Devils gang. Later, after the Commonwealth was won, Nate introduced Isabel to the ghoul Kent Connolly, the man with the foremost knowledge on The Mechanist. Kent was an expert on all of the pre-war comic book characters of the Hubris Comics world, including the Silver Shroud.

Stadium: Hubris Comics Park - Kent Connolly was not only an expert on the Unstoppables line of characters, but a major fan of the Shroud. After making peace in the Commonwealth, Nate Howard personally helped Kent fix up the Hubris Comics shop near the Charles River. There, Kent started his own Unstoppables radio broadcasts through a revamped Galaxy News Radio signal and began producing and selling Unstoppables merchandise to the Commonwealth. He was happy to team up with Isabel Cruz in a hero-villain partnership to push the Hubris Comics brand and bring the Shroud and other Unstoppables mascots to the CBO.

Location: Lexington

Nickname: Synths- Named after the Institute's humanoid robots, these marvels range from skeleton-like models all the way to human-like. The namesake for this team is based on Model 1 synths, which are aggressive and foolhardy. While they may make mistakes in baserunning and taking chances on defense, the Synths will never back down.

Owner: Trashcan Carla

Back Story: With the Institute HQ not far away at the CIT Ruins, Carla decided the name was as good as any. While Nate Howard was not fond of Carla copying the logo, Carla decided to personalize it by adding the initials of the team, LS, to the logo.

Stadium: Super Duper Mart Stadium - When Trashcan Carla relocated from Bunker Hill, she maintained her territory in the Cambridge area. One of the larger communities ripe for settlement was Lexington, a place formerly overrun by ghouls and raiders. With the help of Nate Howard, Trashcan Carla was able to rebuild the largest Super Duper Mart in the Commonwealth. That mart became her general goods dynasty, a great stopping point between Boston and people on their way towards anywhere northwest of the big city.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586202274

Location: Starlight Drive-In

Nickname: Lady Killers - Violence is not the only game in the Commonwealth. Sometimes charm has its place. Cait thought the term Lady Killer was perfect irony for her since she had been know for a long-time as a black widow. She figured she had the black widow perk, while the boys on her team could be lady killers, charming their way through carefulness and finesse to will their way towards victory.

Owner: Cait Irish, aka Cait, Fists O'Smashey, aka Irish Cait

Back Story: Cait was a companion of Nate's through Nate's own adventures of locating his son and cleaning up the Commonwealth. Skilled in hand-to-hand cage fighting and a major league chem user, Cait was a bad day from death. After escaping her family and then the Combat Zone, Cait was a loyal follower of Nate's. Nate helped her surgically remove her chem addiction. After things settled down, Cait decided to take control of one of Nate's favorite settlements, the Starlight Drive-In. Cait worked tirelessly to build up some manufacturing in the area and cleaned up the silver screen in anticipation of Kent Connolly's promised Unstoppables series. Though there were no major companies in the Starlight Drive-In area, Cait was able to produce a peaceful, well-liked settlement.

Stadium: Valentine Detective Agency Field - Another companion of Nate, Nick Valentine, the vaunted synth detective, left Nate's side to continue his well-respected detective agency. Operating out of Diamon City, Nick moved his headquarters from the Great Green Jewel's field to luxury apartments overlooking Hangman's Alley in Diamond City. There he continued to work cases and built up a reputation as the Commonwealth's leading private detective in finding any missing person or solving any mystery. Some called him the Mystery Machine, others Synthlock Holmes. Valentine and Cait, who became acquaintances and then friends through Nate, created a great baseball partnership at the Drive-In.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586202274

Location: Sunshine Tidings Co-op

Nickname: Chemists - Named for the chem lab "manned" by a Mister Handy called Professor Goodfeels, the Chemists played upon the tradition of the communal settlement of Sunshine Tindings Co-op.

Owner: Talia McGovern

Back Story: Nate first met Talia when she lived in a synth-killing small community, Covenant. While the leaders of the community were found in contempt by Nate and a bounty hunter named Honest Dan, Nate took a liking to some of the residents, convincing them that they were brainwashed and should reconsider. The easiest to charm was Talia, who was a skilled mechanic, but a person quite lousy at being decisive. Nate told her that she could be skilled in repairs and suggested that he needed someone to govern the Sunshine Tidings Co-op. Talia said that she guessed it would be OK but only if Nate said it would be, and that was that. She moved out west to one of the only settlements where it was OK to just be groovy and relax all day. Nate figured Talia would not have to be too decisive in that case.

Stadium: Vim! Park - When Small Bertha helped to liberate and populate Far Harbor, a faraway town in the area formerly known as Maine, she was only a girl. Regardless of how small and young she was, she ruled with an iron fist and made decisions important to the community in the Acadia region. In time and with the help of many, including Nate Howard and Nick Valentine, Small Bertha was leading several communities, sent the Trappers packing, and wiped out a legion of super mutants stationed in a luxury hotel and a soft drink factory. That soft drink factory was the local favorite drink, Vim! Realizing that the factory was only a good dusting away from being operational, Small Bertha got the place up and running. Soon, Far Harbor residents were making frequent trips to ship Vim! to Boston and the Commonwealth. Small Bertha decided to open a second factory in the Commonwealth, but there needed to be new construction since factories in the Commonwealth either could not meet her needs or were in too much disrepair. She moved an office to Downtown Boston east of Diamond City and started construction of her factory, set to open sometime around 2230. She also listened to Nate's advice to pump some caps into the Sunshine Tidings franchise since it was one of the poorer franchises in the CBO. Some were surprised Bertha did not just buy out the franchise, but Nate insisted that Bertha let McGovern run the show.

Location: Atom Cats Garage and Territory

Nickname: Atom Cats - Confusing that the name is the location, but that's what you get at the coolest place in the Commonwealth.

Owner: Zeke, aka Zeke Cat, aka That Cool Cat, aka The Cat's Meow, aka Mr. Cat, aka Top Cat, aka The Dreamiest, aka Daddy-O

Back Story: Zeke is the founder of the Atom Cats, the coolest gang in the Commonwealth and allies with Nate Howard. Zeke founded the group and has kept his meat hooks in their rise to power in the Southeast, working to fend off feral ghouls ("rubber chickens") , Gunners ("dogs on the hunt"), mirelurks ("rank crab monsters"), and raiders ("heater beaters"). They also spent a lot of time protecting nearby Warwick Homestead, which caused a mutual agreement of food for protection. The Atom Cats now have it made in the shade dealing primarily in power armor repair and customization. Zeke thought it would be a big tickle to buy one of the franchises and even give all the players on the team their own cool nickname to welcome them to the team. Then they all would know that they're in fat city, baby.

Stadium: Coolest Field in Town - When you've got hotrod paint adorning your stadium walls, you know you've just entered the Coolest Field in Town. Rockin' night until morning and then some, this stadium represents the power armor decorating culture of the Atom Cats Garage.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586310738

Location: South Boston High School - Since Goodneighbor is an all-concrete location with no room for a baseball field, the team built its stadium at South Boston High School

Nickname: Hancocks - Named after Goodneighbor's dear leader, the Hancocks represent brute strength, careful planning, and high confidence. Teams know the Hancocks will never bow down and will sign off on any chance of victory.

Owner: John Hancock, aka Hancock, aka That Ghoul Son-of-a-*****, aka John McDonough

Back Story: Hancock, mayor of Goodneighbor, is the brother of the former Diamond City mayor, Mayor McDonough. He fought for ghouls' rights before he was a ghoul himself. A terrifying leader, Hancock expects the people of his city to keep the peace or else he will knife them. Hancock assisted Nate Howard in his quests after Nate helped quell an underground rebellion in Goodneighbor. After, Hancock worked to keep peace in Downtown Boston as much as possible, leading a few of the charges against the entrenched gangs of raiders, Gunners, and supermutants in the myriad of destroyed buildings throughout Boston Common and the Financial District. Hancock used some of his earnings to purchase a franchise in the CBO and insisted that they have his name.

Stadium: Third Rail Stadium at South Boston High School - Named for Hancock's club in Goodneighbor, he thought naming the stadium after the Third Rail would help bring in some more money. Irma in Goodneighbor tried hard to convince Hancock to take a sponsorship for her Memory Den, but Hancock said that he was "having nothing of it." For now, the stadium is represented by Hancock himself.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586310738

Location: Jamaica Plain

Nickname: Treasures - Named for the 210-year-old mystery, the Treasures of the Jamaica Plain offered hope and riches to the person or group willing to penetrate the town center's extensive and expensive defense system. While many failed, Nate Howard found his way through the lasers and robots to finally open the vault, only to find out that not all treasures are made of gold. With the multitude of pamphlets and signs around the Commonwealth advertising the Treasures of Jamaica Plain, owner Lucas Miller already had his team name set. Thus, the Treasures it would be.

Owner: Lucas Miller

Back Story: Another of the Bunker Hill traveling merchants, Miller settled in Jamaica Plain, helping to build up the ruins of the town back into a thriving small city. While Miller's main base of sales is armor and weapons, he has worked to broaden his dealings in Jamaica Plain. With Doc Weathers claiming his territory in the northeast, Miller had no choice to find new territory. He found that it was a great move in the earlier days of Nate Howard's reign in the Commonwealth because his stocks helped knock the Gunners out of nearby Quincy. In addition to his base in Jamaica Plain, Miller often makes diplomatic trips to Quincy, including expanding his trade to stone from the quarry, and some of the other settlements in the area to keep the Southeast region one of the most united of the Commonwealth.

Stadium: The Treasure Box - Miller described Jamaica Plain as his own "treasure box," and the name stuck for the stadium.

Minutemen League - Meet the Teams

Location: Quincy

Nickname: Gunners - The military-like raider group held a solid grasp on the southern portions of the Commonwealth before Nate Howard and the Brotherhood of Steel's efforts against them. Not your typical raider group, the Gunners were well-trained, formidable fighters. After the group was either killed or converted to the common citizenry, Gunners' flags reminded people of the Commonwealth just how tough they had been. Quincy decided to use those flags as a mascot of a rough and tough group of scrappy players willing to fight until the end.

Owner: Smiling Larry

Back Story: This man and his Reckoning were once bathed in the blood of a dozen super mutants. That's how Nate Howard met him. Smiling Larry held up the ripper and, well, he just smiled. Nate recruited him at first in the Southwestern settlement, Somerville Place, to be a weapons liaison for battling the Gunners near Vault 95 and the Gunner's Plaza. After Quincy was liberated from the Gunners, Smiling Larry asked Nate to move his weapons emporium there. Along with the quarry, Quincy became a wealthier part of the Commonwealth.

Stadium – The Stone House - When not busy on her pet project in Vault 88, Valery Barstow manages the Quincy Quarries, also called Quincy Quarry. She does little of the trading of the stones produced there, leaving that to Lucas Miller in Jamaica Plain. However, she did have the idea to build the one and only purely stone stadium in the Commonwealth. Sure, the outfielders will get banged up going after long fly balls, but the stadium is a rock. No, a stone house.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586364754

Location: University Point

Nickname: Deathclaws - One of the fiercest beasts in all of the Wastelands, the deathclaw is agile, strong, and deadly, just like this baseball team. Interestingly enough, when settlers repopulated University Point, they found a terminal entry of a small gang that used to run out of that area called the University Point Deathclaws. The name stuck.

Owner: Ronnie Shaw, aka Gen. Shaw, aka Quartermaster Shaw, aka The Minutewoman

Back Story: The former Minutemen quartermaster, later general, decided to retire while she could still walk, but retirement was never going to slow down Ronnie Shaw. She knew that Nate Howard assisted the Minutemen in retaking the Castle, the Minutemen's fort headquarters, and she wanted to repay Nate in whichever way she could. When he told of the desire to create a professional baseball league in the Commonwealth, she was all in. After retiring to University Point to be near The Castle but "not up everyone's *** there," Ronnie used her retirement caps to invest in purchasing the team. Even though Heather Casdin had thought about investing, she decided to continue he rediscovery of her old home and let Ronnie do her thing. With Ronnie's military background, she is one of the more demanding owners in the league, but she will build a team of respect and discipline.

Stadium: Gwinnett Brewery Park - Rufus Rubins, with the help of his trusty protection Drinkin' Buddy, left the confines of the Hotel Rexford in Goodneighbor to get the Gwinnett Brewery up and running. One of the favorite watering holes in the Commonwealth, the Gwinnett Brewery and Restaurant serves plenty of the Minutemen stationed at The Castle, as well as other travelers coming from the Southeast or Downtown Boston.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586364754

Location: Warwick Homestead

Nickname: Mirelurks - Those pesky crab-like beasts are scattered throughout every waterway of the Wasteland, including every ocean, river, lake, and pond in the Commonwealth. The reproduce at fast rates, laying about a dozen eggs at a time once every 3-4 weeks. With strong claws and a voracious appetite, these hard-shelled beasts are dangerous and ugly.

Owner: Roger Warwick

Back Story: It was discovered in time that Roger Warwick was not who he claimed to be. Nate found out and did something about it, but Roger was always grateful for what did. At first, the Warwick Homestead was a struggling small settlement with barely enough crops to feed the Warwick family, much else anything else. However, Nate changed that fate when he showed Roger and other settlers how they could fix up the nearby wreck of the FMS Northern Star and use that ship to catch, prepare, and distribute mirelurk meat to the Commonwealth. Soon, Roger and friends started the Warwick Homestead Fisheries Company and also learned how to better grow crops for exporting a new Commonwealth favorite dish, the Crustacean Salad.

Stadium: The Homestead - Simple and elegant. Roger Warwick expressed a desire to name the stadium after the nickname bestowed on his settlement instead of after his company, Warwick Homestead Fisheries Company.

Nickname: Swatters, aka Da Swahhhhhhhtahs - The baby of baseball fanatic Moe Cronin, the Swatters are the name he gave baseball bats for their abilities to crush skulls and swat away speeding bullets, just like the players on the team.

Owner: Moe Cronin

Back Story: Once he was taught the true game of baseball by Nate Howard, Cronin was slightly disappointed but still thirsty for more knowledge. In time, he not only invested all of his caps into baseball, but through multiple investors in Diamond City, he had a team. Of course, there were two benefits. First and foremost, Diamond City was at first located on the real baseball stadium, the Great Green Jewel of Boston. Cronin dealt in baseball equipment which functioned as weapons (waters, aka bats) and armor (catcher's equipment). He also collected baseball cards, so to say that he was born to be a baseball owner in the Commonwealth was quite an understatement. He was also the source of envy since his team would be playing half of their games at the best stadium in the Commonwealth, well, maybe even all of the world.

Stadium: The Great Green Jewel [StLee's note: you readers of this alternate universe would know that very same stadium as the famed Fenway Park, but the people of post-Great War Boston only knew it as the Great Green Jewel. Nate never called it anything else, either, so I can only assume that's what it always was.] - There was not going to be any corporate sponsor changing the name

Location: Egret Tours Marina

Nickname: Scrappers - For the people who sift through piles of junk to build a machine, this team is for them. For the people who don't need 5000 caps to buy parts for a house, this team is for them. Scrappers can find that one working wire, straighten the crooked bolt, conjure victory from nothing, this team is that. Most people made a strange look through the explanation of this team name. Who knows how long that nickname will last?

Owner: Ron Staples

Back Story: Ron Staples has not always been your conventional businessman, but his vision has led to opportunities. While set up at his one-man settlement near Walden Pond, Ron had dreams of being the best bartender in the Commonwealth. At first, Nate must have thought Ron was crazy, but then Nate decided he could use a good bartender at one of his favorite settlements, Egret Tours Marina. Ron agreed and moved there, where he became best friends with Egret Tours Marina matron, Phyllis, which most of the settlers called Old Phyllis. Soon after arriving and setting up the best bar in all of the Southwest on the Egret Tours Marina pier, Ron Staples was voted mayor of Egret Tours Marina. It's not the richest settlement in the Commonwealth and Egret Tours Marina is battling division mate Fairline Hills Estate as one of the poorer squads in the CBO.

Stadium: Old Phyllis Field - Named for Old Phyllis, the original inhabitant of Egret Tours Marina before Nate Howard convinced her to allow a settlement there. Old Phyllis was the best friend of Mayor Ron Staples, but sadly she eventually died of an unknown illness that could not be treated with meds or chems. Ron Staples wanted to name the stadium in honor of Phyllis after he could not secure a corporate sponsor for the stadium.

Armed with sharp teeth and claws, and a vicious attitude, regardless off what their called, yao guai are nothing to mess with.

Owner: Eleanor Scarface

Back Story: Eleanor has been shrouded in mystery, at least from her point-of-view. Rumors have swirled for years that she was the mother to a raider boss, but he got violent, thus the large scar on her face. She settled as an ammo dealer near Fairline Hills Estate and later moved her shop there at the insistence of Nate Howard. In her mid-70s, Eleanor may not have many years left, but she agreed to Nate's suggestion that she take on a team in what will be one of the fastest-growing settlements in the South.

Stadium: Yao Guai Circle - Built right in the middle of a small but growing settlement directly south of the Great Green Jewel, Yao Guai Circle fits precisely in the circular park of Fairline Hills Estate. Eleanor could not secure a corporate sponsor since there are no corporate headquarters nearby and many in the Commonwealth fail to put their trust or faith in Eleanor. Some rumors have swirled of corporate interests that may more easily ignore Eleanor's gangster past, but for right now, the Yao Guai name remains.

Railroad League - Meet the Teams

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586458346

Location: Oberland Station / Graygarden

Nickname: T-51s - The most advanced power armor before the Great War, the T-51 suit is known for its nearly impenetrable defense, durability, and stamina, all qualities expected of its players.

Owner: August Oberland

Back Story: August Oberland took her family name based on the settlement at Oberland Station where she became mayor. In conjunction with the robot farming settlement of Greygarden, August created a useful trading post over the northern and southern shores of the Charles River. August also worked out a deal to build the stadium in a more open space near Greygarden since the land surrounding the Oberland Station settlement is hilly and covered in trees. Since Oberland Station is one of the smaller settlements in the Commonwealth, it will be one of the teams that will need multiple investors for future financial success.

Stadium: Graygarden Park - With the success of the robots manning Greygarden, baseball in the area seemed like a perfect location. It is one of the areas easier to defend since it sits atop a large hill, and it is a short hike from Oberland Station. Many of the Oberland Station settlers travel to Graygarden often anyway for picking up their food supplies.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586458346

Location: Shaw High School

Nickname: Knuckle Punchers - This pugilistic marvel epitomizes the qualities in a strong man: brave, ruthless, and topless. These iron-fisted warriors do not need high-powered laser rifles to take down a deathclaw. No, they just need a good, old-fashioned knuckle sandwich delivered to its gaping jaw.

Owner: Arlen Glass

Back Story: One of the original partners of Wilson Atomatoys, the ghoulified Arlen Glass decided to change the new Commonwealth in his old ways: making toys for children. Instead of the toy rust buckets that formerly dotted the Commonwealth lands, Arlen and his helpers were able to get the Atomatoys factory up and running again, providing all the kids of the Commonwealth with their very own Giddyup Buttercup. While the corporate HQ lies in downtown Boston and the factory is near Quincy, Arlen grew to love the game of baseball and felt that owning a baseball team would require him to turn over operations of Atomatoys. This time, instead of being let go by a sniveling brat, he retired from the business and used his buyout to purchase the Knuckle Punchers.

Stadium: Atomatoys Stadium - Sponsored by Arlen Glass's old company, the stadium is the one kids' most want to visit. Of all the stadiums built in the Commonwealth, Atomatoys Stadium is the only one that features a Kids' Zone. In the Kids' Zone, rambunctious children can jump across sharp metal planks onto rusty metal planks, slide head first into broken beer bottles, and do other fun things their parents would never let them do, all while their parents get hammered and watch baseball.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586458346

Location: Vault 81

Nickname: Dwellers - These underground unexplorers have assumed the royalty role of the Commonwealth, considering their lot always to have been better than those above ground. The Dwellers are known for being creative, innovative, and hella good at passing the G.O.A.T.

Owner: Dr. Jacob Forsythe

Back Story: Forsythe got acquainted with Nate Howard after Howard saved young Austin Engill from a near-fatal encounter from some lab-created molerats. Later Forsythe became acquainted with Nate's companion Marie Curie, whom he did not know lived merely feet away from him for many years. After Nate tamed the Commonwealth, Forsythe and Curie worked together researching deadly diseases and formulating treatments and cures, hoping to extend the lives of human wastelanders. Their research brought in a lot of caps for Vault 81, and Forsythe reinvested those caps in the Dweller baseball franchise.

Stadium: McNamara Park - Named after the overseer (that's like the mayor of an underground vault) of Vault 81, McNamara Park was possible thanks to Vault 81 being one of the richer settlements in all of the Commonwealth. From Forsythe and Curie's miracle cures, plenty of caps flowed through the vault. Though McNamara was not interested in baseball, she was happy to know she would be the namesake of the Vault 81 baseball stadium built west of the vault along the Charles River.

January 2296 - Monthly Report A

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507

This Month in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

Each month, Publick Occurrences will put out reports that we hear from various stringers and sources around the Commonwealth. These reports are considered rumors until confirmed, but that will not stop this reporter from reporting what she hears.

This month has been a busy one for these seemingly random events, so our humble paper must print two editions. Please enjoy our first offering of news and notes around the CBO.

2 January 2296 - New CBO Player Has Close Call

Excited by being drafted by the Egret Scrappers in the 5th round, new centerfielder Bill Chaney started to make his way from a motel in the Fens to his new home at Egret Tours Marina. While on the way, Chaney had a run-in with a juvenile bloodbug. Chaney suffered minor injuries to his abdomen and pelvis from the bloodbug's sword-like needle proboscis, but he ultimately splattered the bug's brains all over his brahmin, Truce, with a .45 revolver.

3 January 2296 - Party Boy Wakes Up Naked and Broke

Nordhagen Beach draftee Steve Gunkill may want to taper his habits after the 30-year-old outfielder woke up after a downtown dance party turned into drunken regret. According to witnesses who refused to be named, Gunkill started taking off his clothes and throwing caps at the bartendress. He later passed out behind the club with his clothes never to be seen. Luckily Mae has a good sense of fashion and the right size, as she sent the 9th-rounder Party Boy on his way in a beautiful sequined red dress. Cheers, Mae. And cheers, Steve.

4 January 2296 – Chemists Owner Seen Sporting a Black Eye

Sunshine Tidings owner Talia McGovern disappeared for a couple of days after the draft. When she was seen emerging from her house in Sunshine Tidings Co-op, she was sporting one hell of a shiner. Asked by a local correspondent if her lover was responsible, McGovern responded, “Wait? What? You heard? I mean, no, there’s no lover. I mean, no, no lover of mine, if there was a lover, I mean, there’s not, but if there was, he would never hit me. I mean, there is no he, but a hypothetical he would not.” Further questioning resulted in McGovern taking the fetal position and rocking back and forth.

In related news, there are reports that Small Bertha, who was in town for the draft in Diamond City and whose Vim! company bought the naming rights of the Sunshine Tidings stadium, was livid after the draft when McGovern passed on Bertha’s brother with the 21st pick to take Front Porch Potter. Tony Bertha was then selected with the next pick by the Starlight Lady Killers, the 22nd pick overall. Whether McGovern’s black eye and Small Bertha’s anger have anything to do with each other, this reporter was unable to find out.

6 January 2296 - CBO Named as Public Treasure

King of the Commonwealth and do-everything man, Nate Howard, named the new Commonwealth Baseball Organization as a Public Treasure.

According to Howard, "We want to mark this momentous achievement by thanking all citizens of the Commonwealth. Without you, we could not enjoy the pleasures of this daily life. Now that we have a professional baseball league to entertain us, we can consider this to be our pastime and the public treasure of the Commonwealth."

Diamond City mayor Robert McCready raised a toast to Howard and the union of the Brotherhood of Steel, Institute, Minutemen, and Railroad. Ceremonies were cut short after a radstorm blew through.

14 January 2296 - Yao Guai Claims Home, Gets Roasted

Lexington is not a place known for yao guai infestations. That's why it came as a surprise to Synths pitcher Doug Dee El when he purchased a building from a sketchy broker. Centered in the master bedroom was Dee El's biggest surprise of his life as the shaggy beast did not take kindly to strangers. Along with his trusted Mr. Handy, Dee El took a flamethrower to the beast and later held a neighborhood barbecue. Dee El is OK, but the scrape to his left arm will need to be monitored for infections for the next month.

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

16 January 2296 - Swatters' Investment Rusts

Diamond City first baseman Jeffrey Curatolo thought he was clever when he stored his life's savings in a sewer grate off the Charles River. Unfortunately, the 7th-rounder did not use an airtight box. Since his life's savings were entirely in bottle caps instead of the paper money Nate Howard has suggested using for large amounts, Curatolo now has just a rusted pile of metal. What he claimed was enough to invest in new restaurants in the Fens now just gets to go to the scrap heap. At least he will make more money hitting balls for the CBO's elite team.

19 January 2296 - Goodneighbor Player Regrets #2 at the Third Rail

Playing for John Hancock has to be among the most thrilling of enterprises for young men in the Commonwealth. However, 16-year-old second baseman Jumper Hayes's introduction to the team got, let's say, a little sticky. While having a team party at Hancock's club, the Third Rail, Hayes had to go number two. What he did not know was that an unidentified-as-yet prankster smeared super glue on one of the toilet seats. Hayes, who was taken in the second round of the inaugural draft, was glued to the seat for several hours before Whitechapel Charlie was able to saw off the metal frame. Still, Hayes will miss a bit of time while the skin regrows on his bum. However, he definitely will not be sitting very much in the next few weeks. Hancock has threatened to publicly execute the prankster. There is no comment yet from Nate Howard.

20 January 2296 - Slog Player Gets Sloshed

In what promises to be a running storyline in the CBO of drunken debauchery among players, Ghouls third baseman Lou Churchman found himself in a pickle at the Steamhouse. Four guys who didn't like Churchman's face nor his boasting at the neighborhood bar, took out their frustration by challenging the rockhead to a fight. While the four guys got the best of Churchman by cracking his tooth, he claimed the other guys got the worst of the punishment. Churchman is a little battered and bruised, but he said he could take on a behemoth today if need be.

23 January 2296 - University Point Still a War Zone

University Point two-bagger Greg Shallowwater learned the hard way that renting an apartment means that neighbors are nearby. Angered by his new neighbor blasting Atomic Radio a little too loud, the late-round pick put his fist through their adjoined wall. It looks like we know what Shallowwater, who will make the league minimum, is going to be doing with his next capbag: paying to replace a wall. Wade in your pool, there, GS.

26 January 2296 – Junkman Knows His Trade

A slightly inebriated member of the Four Leafs forgot his new trade and drunkenly fumbled his way through his old one. Shortstop Tommy Junkman, following a ten-day trend of CBO infielders doing stupid things, got drunk with his new Finch Farm comrades. After most of the party died down, a few heard someone hammering on metal. What they found was Junkman battering the pitching machine into submission.

According to one teammate who wished to remain anonymous, Junkman yelled out, “This is some good scrap, man” in reference to the mutilated machine. “I can get at least 70 caps on this!”

Perhaps the Junkman forgot that he will be making more caps on fielding grounders than he did in collecting scrap.

31 January 2296 - Irony Strikes Concord Player, Long Clinic Stay Imminent

What Concord Radstags reliever Bobby Fairline may not have understood is that joining the Radstags team does not suddenly make actual radstags his friend. Fairline found out the hard way that close encounters with radstags can and do result in aggressive animals with sharp horns poking holes in people. The undrafted free agent pickup is listed in critical but stable condition. While his injuries may not be life-threatening, advances in medicine have yet to speed up healing gapes in the body. Fairline looks to miss some time, with the start of the regular season probably out of the question.

2 February 2296 - Glowing Radroach Nearly Does in Dwellers CF

Vault 81 once had a major hidden molerat problem. Though the venerable Nate Howard took care of that problem and freed the darling of the Commonwealth, Ms. Marie Curie, not all of the vault’s holes have been filled. Vault 81 centerfielder Chris Van Benschoten along with his new gal pal learned all about the filthy holes of the vault when he found a glowing radroach amid the steaming pipes of the boiler room. While Van Benschoten was able to protect his girl, the radroach was able to sink its mandibles into Van Benschoten’s neck, running a nice little array of rad poisoning through his veins. Dwellers’ owner Dr. Jacob Forsythe was able to treat the wound, but simple RadAway was not able to do the trick. Instead, Van Benschoten needs time to heal all wounds. He will be out for the foreseeable future. He may also want to practice safe…ahem…time in the future.

5 February 2296 – Player Takes a Plunge at the Marina

The Charles River distributary is no imposing river—unless one cannot swim. That was the case for near-drowning, and extra-irradiated victim Corey Statue of the Scrappers. While working on repairing a dock with a couple of his new teammates, fellow infielders Casey Roux and Fawk Fowkes, Statue lost his footing after tripping over a large nail. After falling into the river and taking a great big gulp, Statue was pulled up by his bemused but suddenly concerned teammates. While he dries out his lungs and gets pumped with a ton of RadAways, reports are that teammates are starting to call Statue “The Anchor.” Because he sinks.

6 February 2296 – First Trade Rumored

In a follow-up to a story from last month, the first rumored trade is starting to take shape. Apparently, Sunshine Tidings and Starlight, both of the Institute League, are currently working on a deal to move Tony Bertha from the Lady Killers to Sunshine Tidings. While neither team has confirmed the trade talks, Irish Cait and Small Bertha were seen together in County Crossing over the weekend. Supposedly Cait was looking for medical supplies for the Starlight Drive-In stockpile when she bumped into Bertha, but reports mentioned the two women together entered Bloodbugs owner Doc Weathers’ office.

Last month Chemists owner Talia McGovern was reported to have a black eye. While there were no conformations, sources suspected Bertha of being the culprit after McGovern passed on Bertha’s brother, Tony Bertha, in the CBO Inaugural Draft. Rumors also swirled that Small Bertha had threatened to pull her company, Vim!, from the stadium sponsorship in Sunshine Tidings Co-op if “that ***** [McGovern] didn’t get her **** together.”

9 February 2296 – Scrappers Rename Stadium

The Egret Scrappers’ owner, Ron Staples, announced on Sunday that the team had found a corporate sponsor for the 2296 season and would rename Old Phyllis Field to Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina, effective immediately. Becky Fallon was on hand to commemorate the event. While Egret Tours Marina has worked on expanding its territory and has some investments from Nate Howard and others, the Scrappers are thought to be one of the poorer teams starting out the inaugural season. With the addition of the Fallon name, the leader in clothing production and distribution in the Commonwealth, Egret can be more financially competitive with other teams. While that may not be of value to this year, they may be able to compete for more depth in the near future.

10 February 2296 – Atom Cats Name Their Five “Coolest Cats”

Atom Cats owner Zeke Cat announced today his team’s Five Coolest Cats, an honorary title for five players he wants to push as players exemplifying the qualities of his gang. Each of the five chosen agreed to be called by their nicknames in official press, though Zeke did not expect the players to change their names permanently. The five players are:

“Boss” Junkpile – Leadership Award

“Daddy-O” Sixx – Loyalty Award

“Bee’s Knees” Stabb – Selflessness Award

“Earthbound” Bussey – Work Ethic Award

“Jets” Wash – Smarts Award

19 February 2296 – Exhibition Tournament Announced

Diamond City – Nate Howard announced today that the league would hold a preseason tournament from March 19 through March 22 to kick off the season. While this is currently a tournament meant to get teams in game mode before they begin practice games against their own league members on March 26, there could be plans to repeat or expand the tournament in future seasons.

Six random hosts were selected. First, a single host from each league was selected, and then two wild card hosts were selected. Each host team will host three other teams, one from each league, in a round-robin format. The top two teams will then play for a tournament championship unless one team goes 3-0 in the round robin. In case of a three-way tie for first, the team with the best run differential would get a bye. That team would then play the winner of the other two teams for the championship. Each tournament is named after its hosts’ nicknames.

The Four Leafs Invitational features the following four teams: Finch Farms, Concord, Goodneighbor, and Vault 81.

The Silver Shroud Invitational features Fort Hagen, East Boston Prep, Warwick, and Fairline Hill Estates.

The T-51s Invitational includes Oberland, Nordhagen Beach, Abernathy, and the Atom Cats.

The Gunners Invitational includes Quincy, Salem, Lexington, and Shaw High School.

The Deathclaws Invitational shows off University Point, The Slog, Sunshine Tidings, and Diamond City.

The Lady Killers Invitational includes these four: Starlight, County Crossing, Jamaica Plain, and Egret.

20 February 2296 – Rogue Power Armor Takes Out Shroud Reliever

A Brotherhood of Steel patrolman is under fire for forgetting to power down his power armor. Knight Edgar Lomax had to take a piss break while on patrol out west. When he got out of his suit, though, automatic pilot somehow got tripped. While Knight Lomax and others on patrol were unable to secure the suit, a helping Curtis Thriceshot of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud decided standing in front of the suit was a good idea. It wasn’t. Though he only suffered minor scrapes and bruises in the incident, Thriceshot may have beat Knight Lomax for dumbest move of the day.

24 February 2296 – Trade Rumors Rumors No More

Ever since the Inaugural Draft was held on January 1, there have been rumors swirling that Sunshine Tidings Chemists corporate sponsor Small Bertha has been putting pressure on owner Talia McGovern to correct the mistake she made when she passed on Small Bertha’s brother, Tony Bertha. Earlier this month, Small Bertha was spotted in County Crossing meeting with Bloodbugs’ owner Doc Weathers and Starlight Lady Killers owner Irish Cait.

Today, we are able to confirm the purpose of that meeting when Cait announced there had been a three-way trade between the teams. The trade will need to be processed through the home CBO office, but there may be some delays since the system only allows two-way trades currently.

Here are the details we know:

Sunshine Tidings has sent pitchers Front Porch Potter and Chopstick McWilliams to County Crossing. They also shipped outfielder Jesus Church and infielder Wild Cannon to Starlight.

Starlight sends pitchers Tony Bertha and Danny Beerholder to Sunshine Tidings. They send infielder T.J. McMath and outfielder Mushy Levy to County Crossing.

County Crossing sends pitchers City Moore and Burn Rivera to Starlight. They send infielder Josh Noob and outfielder Frank Corsica to Sunshine Tidings.

There has been no confirmation if McGovern approved the trade. The trade is pending approval from the CBO league office.

March 2296 - Monthly Report - March 1-19

This Month in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

There's a lot happening this month in the lead up to the opening tournament, Spring Training, and the debut of the CBO. Therefore, we are splitting this month up as much as needed with our opening news and notes all the way up to the tournament, which begins March 19.

So, now for the hot takes of March 1 through March 19.

1 March 2296 – Faulty Wiring Destroys Players’ Dorms

While Vault 81 is overcrowded, the settlement has expanded from the vault and surrounding area all the way west to the Charles River where they built McNamara Park. Along the river, Vault 81 also built a row of houses just completed four days ago called the Dorms, a wall-to-wall array of shanty shacks meant to keep the players away from the usual settlers.

Unfortunately, whoever was in charge of wiring the Dorms made a mistake by crossing the wires, causing an overheating issue. That issue led to a row of the eastside dorms catching fire and wiping out five pitchers’ temporary homes. Those players were identified as Danny Hitless (Dorm EA1), Kevin Containment (EA2), Joker Griffith (EA3), Zippy Patterson (EA4), and Nate Riccardi (EA5).

While no players were injured in the incident, the five players mentioned above lost most of what they own and may not have their minds on baseball for a while. Only 31 of the 40 dorms had been occupied, so all five players can move to new dorms while they take care of replenishing clothes and other supplies.

Overseer McNamara also ordered that her engineers test the wiring of the remaining 35 dorms to ensure no more would experience similar problems.

4 March 2296 – Jamaica Plain Player Too Honest

When he was a boy growing up in Covenant, Jamaica Plain second baseman Honest Dan Mathews was known then as just Danny. A visiting mercenary who called himself Honest Dan passed through for an investigation Matthews did not understand, but he fell in love with the man’s name and assumed it as his own later.

Living up to his assumed name, Matthews made it his life’s mission always to tell the truth, regardless of the consequences. Well, after an incident at the Drumlin Diner, Matthews is honestly going to need to learn how to cook.

After eating a mirelurk egg omelet, Matthews complained that the omelet was “so bad it could turn a deathclaw pink.” Well, Drumlin Diner cook Maxbear Sanders took exception to the insult and attacked Matthews with a frying pan. While Matthews got the better of Sanders in the end, Sanders insisted that Matthews be banned from the establishment. As one of the few eateries in the Jamaica Plain region, Drumlin Diner does not have to be the best food, but it is one of the few places serving the demanding bellies of the young people of the Commonwealth. It will be minus one of those bellies now.

In other news, Sanders was overheard planning a new menu item: Pink Deathclaw Fingers.

10 March 2296 – Cool Has a New Voice

Zeke and the Cats have announced that the Atom Cats Radio Network is “going to be the A, B, and Double C” of all Commonwealth baseball broadcasts. Not happy with the drag that is the official media on Diamond City Radio and WRVR, Zeke announced that the ACRN would broadcast all home games for the Atom Cats.

According to Zeke, “Hey all you cool cats and chicks, we’re not down with the town when it comes to them squares in the radio biz. We’re no wet rags here at the Garage. We want to party like it’s 1957, ya dig? Our Atom Cats Radio is going to be the boss of the Commonwealth, baby. It’s hip. It’s fab. And it’s got a lot of pizzazz.”

Nate Howard was unavailable for comment. Before the Atom Cats’ announcement, there were plans for both DCR and WRVR to each broadcast at least one home weekend series for each team in the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, meaning that each team would be featured in at least six games on the season. With the Atom Cats’ announcement, it appears that there may be an uneven amount of coverage, depending on the strength of the Atom Cat’s signal. Currently, DCR and WRVR can be heard throughout the Commonwealth.

11 March 2296 – Bloodbugs Newcomer Needs Amputation

Chopstick McWilliams has only been with County Crossing for two weeks, and he already has experienced problems.

While apparently on a date with one of the chemists at Doc Weathers’ chem and meds manufacturing plant, McWilliams and his date, later identified as Maggy Weathers, decided they needed a little more privacy. The only place nearby where no one else goes is an abandoned nuclear power plant station.

The couple intended to have time to themselves, but instead emerged themselves in a toxic soup of nuclear waste. Both immediately started growing new limbs from their legs where they stepped in the nuclear puddle. Both will also require amputations and recovery time.
McWilliams grew a new pair of legs from his left calf muscle. While he will heal just fine, there will be some time for the muscle to be reshaped and rehabilitated.

Doc Weathers asked that the entire nuclear plant be fenced off with radiation warnings instead of just being understood as a no-man’s land. “I could have lost my daughter,” Weathers said. “Either that, or she could have become a twin. And I don’t want either of those to happen.”

Weathers also requested that his players stay "a ball field away" from his daughter from now on.

14 March 2296 – Giddyup Buttercup Donkey Kicks Knuckle Puncher

Youngster Ethan Lynch thought it would be funny to mechanize a horse-sized Giddyup Buttercup and ride it into practice. Unfortunately for the undrafted reliever, he overpowered the metal toy and turned a slow ride into a bucking bronco. Lynch was thrown from the metallic beast and then caught a hoof to his nose, enveloping the young man in oil, blood, and tears.

After the rogue toy was put down with a frag grenade, Lynch was treated for a broken nose to go along with a broken spirit. He will rest for a couple of days while the swelling goes down, but he is expected to be available for the preseason tournament in five days.

15 March 2296 – Cautious Learns Irony

Egret Scrappers reliever Danny Cautious learned a lesson in irony as he was injured in a freak accident over the weekend.

Cautious was collecting firewood just east of Egret Tours Marina to cook some fresh radstag meat when he tripped over a frag mine near the train tracks. The trip probably saved his life, with the shrapnel only tearing through his boots and slashing his feet.

Cautious will have to spend a few weeks in the Egret Tours Marina Clinic while a Miss Nanny meticulously pulls the metal shards out of his feet.

16 March 2296 – Hayes Close to Sitting

After the terrible incident that left Goodneighbor Hancocks infielder Jumper Hayes with a . . . strain to his gluteus, the team has announced that he is close to being ready to play.

Hayes has been sitting for longer periods of time. He will try to practice with the team and sit on the bench. He may even take the field at the Four Leafs Invitational if he feels down to it.

17 March 2296 – Protest Interrupts Quincy Parade

A parade to celebrate the Gunners Invitational for the host team from Quincy and visiting teams from Lexington, Salem, and Shaw High School was cut short today amid protests.

Around 100 picketers blocked the path’s parade through Downtown Quincy in protest of the team taking the Gunners name. They held signs reading such things as “Kill off the Gunners for good” and “My family was killed by Gunners.”

Quincy team owner Smiling Larry tried to address the crowd, but they were offended by his face. He was pelted with tatos and mutfruit as he tried to explain the financing and how he had no love for the Gunners gang, blah blah blah.

Protester Mabel Furcat, who made her way to the protest from the Finch Farm area, said, “My settlement was attacked by Gunners who killed people just because they needed more bullets. How dare a baseball team adopt their name? They were killers. It is gross to think people will cheer for Gunners. It makes me ill.” Furcat then spat on the ground to show her disgust.

While local militia and volunteer peacekeepers were able to remove the group, Quincy mayor, Jun Long, said that he was too shaken up and could not allow the parade to continue. No word yet about whether or not Commissioner Nate Howard was made aware of the event. He is expected to be at Starlight Drive-In for the Lady Killers Invitational. Who knows how many women will be protesting that one, am I right?

19 March 2296 – Sunshine Tidings Down a Pitcher

The Sunshine Tidings attempted to pose for a picture while in an underdeveloped section of University Point. While there had been repairs to the building, no one considered that 40 burly boys and men standing on a single platform could be dangerous.

As expected, the platform collapsed, causing most of the Chemists players to suffer only minor cuts, scrapes and bruises. All except pitcher Bill Sarnacki who ended up with a post pinning his leg at an awkward position with the weight of several men on top.

Though he was pumped up with some stimpacks to help the healing, Sarnacki suffered a broken leg and was transported via pack brahmin to The Castle so that he can get top-notch care from Minutemen surgeons. Broken limbs are often quick-healing injuries thanks to medical technology, but, of course, they still take some time.

Sunshine Tidings is now down to two starting pitchers for the Deathclaws Invitational. They will consider attempting to use multiple pitchers for their third game and potential fourth day.

19 March 2296 – Tournament Coverage at Starlight Drive-In

We at Publick Occurences are focusing our first coverage of the Commonwealth Baseball organization at Starlight Drive-In since the commissioner, Nate Howard, is present. While we are focusing our coverage here, we will use reports from around the Commonwealth for scores and any news reports we may receive.

For our coverage, we will feature all games at our location, giving a quick recap of the days’ events in that day’s late edition. We are also broadcasting all games live, so tune in to Diamond City Radio to hear the games come to your room or wherever you are listening to the game.

Play ball!

A Win for Boston, A Win for Blue

by Piper Wright

Starlight Drive-In -- I call these the Blue Days. Not because of sadness. Not because the sky seems to have changed from the brown drabness and frequent radstorms. No, these are the Blue Days for a different reason. Because of Blue. You may know him as Nate Howard, the royalty of the Commonwealth. The Peacemaker. The Sole Survivor. Today the Commissioner of Baseball. But for me he will always be Blue.

I first met the man from another time just outside Diamond City. At the time the mayor of DC, Mayor McDonough, had locked me out because he did not like the news I was reporting. A fellow in a blue vault jumpsuit walked up on me, and the rest for me was history.

He was a man from before the war, frozen like a popsicle, but forced to watch his wife murdered and his child get kidnapped. He was desperate and manic, but I could see in him at the time that there was something special about him. And oh boy was there.

After time passed and he found his son and overcame his demons, Blue did something no one ever thought possible. He tamed the Commonwealth. Later, with the help of a trenchcoat-wearing stranger, Blue brought more than hope to the Commonwealth. He brought fun and taught people how to look forward to the next day, to have hope.

In the last few months, there has been a buzz louder than a horde of bloatflies. That buzz has been all about a game that has been around longer than anyone can remember. Baseball.

I know I would sometimes look at the pennants hanging in The Great Green Jewel. At the time, we called that structure Diamond City. Those banners had a peculiarity to them. The last pennant there read 1918, the last year the Boston team that played there won a championship.

Fun fact: the day the bombs dropped that formed this wasteland that we call the Commonwealth, Boston was hosting a team from Texas for the championship. The Boston team was up three games to zero and was set to win the championship for the first time in 159 years.

But they never did. That same day, Blue and his family was ushered into one of Vault-Tec's famed vaults where they were frozen in small metal tanks. That time was for 210 years. Blue was ready to see Boston win in baseball, but instead he had to wait 210 years to escape his ice prison. Nine years after that, Blue finally gets to see Boston win with the start of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization.

Today, four teams are gathered at Starlight Drive-In to play at Valentine Detective Agency Field. These four teams--the Lady Killers, Scrappers, Bloodbugs, and Treasures--are not playing in Boston proper, but they are representing Boston winning at baseball. Name one other place than the Commonwealth where baseball is being played right now? There may be a place, but it is doubtful.

In five other places in the Commonwealth, other teams are experiencing that same buzz: Greygarden, University Point, Finch Farms, Quincy, and Fort Hagen. People are more excited for the start of this tournament than anything else. Blue told me baseball was once considered to be America's pastime.

Now it's our, the Commonwealth's, pastime. Here's to Boston winning a championship for the first time in 378 years. Here's to Blue.

My ulterior motive for this preseason tournament is to see which settings I need to tweak (like realizing after I ran the games that I had the game summaries turned off, which was supposed to be a bit of a time saver for me instead of writing stories or blurbs on each game. There may need to be some mistakes in the first season but I'll try my best to get this right. I know for the regular season I will feature two series per weekend series (only one three-game series per team per weekend) with previews and stories and try to bring some life to the kooky characters involved.

Questions About Pictures

Two questions concerning pictures:

1. How can I save a complete boxscore with everything included in that file? I would like to upload complete box scores with the game summary and everything to my dynasty, but I can only seem to get that through multiple screenshots spliced together. I would like to save time instead of doing that!

As you can see in my box score pictures above, I zoomed out on my browser to try to get a full screen capture, but those box scores are difficult to read on here. They are blurry!

2. How do I resize any photo to the proper 135x90 for the owner/coach photos? I want pictures instead of Facegen for those, but I cannot seem to ever resize them correctly to show up in game. My old-school program is Photoshop CS3, but I can only seem to lock in files to their dimensions or play the guessing game for the 135x90 size. Regardless of what I do, I can't seem to get my pictures to load to the right size or appear under the owner's files like I am attempting to upload.

Lady Killers Invitational Championship: Jamaica Plain Treasures 7, Egret Scrappers 3, 10 inn. – POG: 1B Carney Cornseed, JP

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1587827060

In an exciting finish, Jamaica Plain took the Lady Killers Invitational by defeating the Egret Scrappers 7-3 in 10 innings. Left fielder Carney Cornseed’s grand slam in the top of the 10th proved to be the game-winner, giving Cornseed the Player of the Game award. For the day, Cornseed was 2 for 5 with the grand slam, a run scored, and four RBI.

Treasures starting pitcher Will Rope looked to earn the victory in the game, allowing just one run on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts in eight innings. However, closer Ryan Hartley could not finish the job, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in the ninth. He was still credited with the win once the Treasures retook the lead in the tenth. Matt Mercadante pitched the final inning to shut down Egret.

The Scrappers had ten hits, all singles, in the game, with their four hits in the bottom of the ninth being the most they produced all game. Third baseman Jason Juras and second baseman Dustin Bowfiddle led the way with three singles each.

Thank you! And thank you for the input on the banners. I used banners in another dynasty I had that somehow I lost in time, but I loved doing the banners. Therefore, I thought the Commonwealth would be a great place to include them with all of the faction flags in the Fallout 4 game.

This Month in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

23 March 2296 –Howard Praises Preseason Tournaments, Addresses Protest in Quincy

Commissioner Nate Howard gave each of the hosts praise for their tournaments.

“I want to thank the six host settlements for all their efforts,” Howard said at Starlight Drive-In. “I enjoyed my time watching the Bloodbugs, Lady Killers, Scrappers, and Treasures. It was a joy to see the players show off all their hard work, and I can’t wait for the first regular season to start.”

This reporter was in attendance and asked the commish about the purported incident in Quincy. He described it as “unfortunate” but also mentioned that he would like to hear personally from the protesters and seek solutions for their concerns.

When asked about other potentially threatening names, like the host team, the Starlight Lady Killers, Howard mentioned that the name itself was slang and not meant as a literal interpretation.

He also mentioned that a lot of traditional team names included double entendre. “I mean, I played on a softball team called the Angry Dolphins, for mercy sake," Howard said. "The Angry Dolphins.”

This reporter is not sure what Howard meant by references to "softball," slang, double entendre, nor "Angry Dolphins," but I suppose politicians will be politicians when it comes to answering questions directly. In the meantime, there may be more questions about some of the baseball teams’ nicknames.

25 March 2296 – Runaway History Bites Witch Hat

Little Johnny Orphan may make it in the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, but he has a lot of maturing to do.

The 16-year-old reliever, Orphan, is on his tenth different team, and the official start of the spring season does not start until tomorrow.

Barney Rook gave the young man a "talking to" in a team gathering, telling the young man that committing to something is the very thing he needs.

Orphan has not switched teams so often because teams are looking to muddle through the waiver wire, but because Orphan has quit on his team each time practice got rough. He tried the same thing today, but teammates and Rook convinced him he would be “****** up a ***** with a ********* **** *****” if he quit on them. Also, Rook told him that all contractual payment was being withheld until he completed a month’s service with the team or was released before that time.

Whether Orphan stays or goes this time, he definitely does not want to ****** up a ***** with a ********* **** *****. Nobody does!

26 March 2296 – Gambling Problem Haunts Yao Guai Pitcher

Fairline Hill Estates pitcher Crick Dubya stands out in a crowd. At 6’7” the pitcher stands a head above many, which means it is tough when he is trying not to be seen.

That was especially evident when an unseemly loan shark and gang leader at Easy City Downs, Babyface Aorta, paid Dubya a visit. Apparently, before heading to Diamond City from Lynn Woods for the draft, Dubya made a detour to Easy Town to gamble on the robot races. He paid for his gambling by taking out a loan from Babyface. After losing all day at the track, Dubya headed off without repaying his debts.

Yesterday, Babyface found Dubya, and there was an issue. For one, a group of guards was able to chase away Babyface and his diaper-wearing goons. That means Babyface is probably going to put a hit on Dubya. Two, Dubya will soon get a visit from the commish based on a strict no gambling rule in the league. In all fairness, Dubya gambled at Easy City Downs before he became a league player. However, if that gambling past jumps out of the bushes and shouts “Boo!” then there be ghosts in Dubya’s pantry, or however that phrase goes.

30 March 2296 – Incident in Oberland

After a team meeting in Greygarden, young reliever Vince McCort returned to his loft shack at Oberland Station to get some rest, where he discovered Third Saturday Montana allowing his molerat to root through McCort’s porch garden. Angered by the animal ruining his silt beans and tatos, McCort stabbed the beast to death with a combat knife. Montana tried to intervene on his pet’s behalf, but McCort turned on him and stabbed Montana three times in the abdomen. Onlookers intervened before McCort could deliver the final slash.

Montana was rushed to the Oberland Clinic where he is in critical condition. McCort was escorted to the guardhouse to be processed for attempted murder. If Montana passes away, McCort would have more severe charges.

Oberland T-51s owner August Oberland made a statement:
“When I built up this settlement from nothing more than a train station to one of the more important trading posts, I thought I had accomplished two great things up until now: a safe place and a peaceful place. Due to the incident today, I learned I was fooling myself. I’m trying to do too much, and I need to rethink what I can do to keep Oberland what I dreamed it could be. I know Mr. McCort is not from here and where he’s from that may be acceptable action, but it’s not here. Old Third Saturday [Montana] also has to understand that his pets need to have limits. Both of them messed up today, and I hope [Montana] pulls out of it and we can move on. With that said, McCort is suspended from the team, probably forever, but I will file it with the league office to make it official.”

Welcome to the Wasteland!

Unfortunately for me, I cannot yet choose my favorites. I want to see how the dice roll to see which storylines will come to mind and lead me on to favorite players and squads.

I am already finding myself especially attracted to the dynamics of Small Bertha vs Talia McGovern in Sunshine Tidings, as well as the jazzy lingo of the Atom Cats. Of course, the Diamond City Swatters play at my real-life favorite ballpark, so there's that to go along with future tournament plans.

Other teams that I will pull for early on include one of my favorite settlements, Starlight Drive-In, along with the Irish Cait and Nick Valentine duo there. Also, I think the Witch Hats and Knuckle Punchers are hilarious team nicknames.

Preseason Predictions

5 Attachment(s)
Now that Spring Training is complete, teams can turn their attention to the regular season, a 60-game affair among individual leagues over 20 weekends from April through mid-August.

For the 2296 season, Nate Howard revealed to the Commonwealth and the CBO the dynamic assaultron that played a central role in helping the Railroad escape annihilation in its early days. That assaultron is P.A.M., or the Predictive Analytic Machine.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588040782

P.A.M. is a master of predictive analysis. Running the numbers, here is what P.A.M. had to say about the 2296 season.

"I was, am, and will most likely be P.A.M. Predictive Analytic Machine. All systems fully functional. Baseball token recognized. I provide first order approximations of the behaviors of all residents of the region designated Commonwealth. Rephrasing. I predict the future.

Rephrasing. I also provide first order approximations of the results of baseball of the league designated CBO. Commonwealth Baseball Organization. Nate Howard has reprogrammed this unit's new primary goal. He calls it the B.P.M. Baseball Prediction Model.

Processes reaching maximum capacity. Output only. User must fill in own conclusions. Data sustained. Accuracy is expected to reach better than 80%. Results printed. Recharge in progress. End transmission."

P.A.M.'s predictions in pictures. Diamond City Radio's analysis of those predictions in text below.

BROTHERHOOD LEAGUE

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588040782

They both approached team building like they wanted to be champions, and in this inaugural season of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, a two-way battle for the Brotherhood League is expected to be the highlight of their division. Among all divisions in the CBO, the BL is expected to be the second best division race behind the Minutemen League.

Finch Farm and The Slog are predicted to tie for the division title, with East Boston Prep on their heels. County Crossing, Salem, and Nordhagen Beach are not expected to be in the running for the division. Should the Four Leafs and Ghouls tie for the division lead, the winner of the tiebreaker would be expected to get the fourth seed in the Commonwealth Series tournament. The loser of the tiebreaker game would then be predicted as the sixth seed.

Offense is expected to rule throughout the Commonwealth, with Finch Farm left fielder Danny Honeycutt expected to get the nod as the league MVP. Along with the batting title, the Four Leafs’ Matt Pageturner is predicted to the top pitcher.

INSTITUTE LEAGUE

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588040782

The Institute League is not expected to be much of a contest in the CBO. The real story is who will be second for the league.

Sunshine Tidings, which is run by the determined timidity of Talia McGovern and the brute strength of team sponsor Small Bertha, looks to have built the best top to bottom line up in the entire CBO. Running away with the division would earn the Chemists the number one overall seed in the Commonwealth Series tournament.

The second place team, which is also a playoff team in the end, will be the real question. Abernathy is slightly favored over Concord and Lexington in what should be a tight race. Based on expectations, the second place team would get the seventh seed in the Commonwealth Series tournament.

Despite the Chemists’ expectations to take the division, it’s the Radstags who are expected to walk away with the top awards in the IL. Left fielder Dan Erb is expected to take the batting crown, while reliever Burt Oldshoe is expected to be the league’s most dominant pitcher. Sunshine Tidings’ Tony Bertha, whom the team traded for in February to join his sister’s team, is expected to be the top starting pitcher.

MINUTEMEN LEAGUE

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588040797

Like the Brotherhood League, the Minutemen League is expected to be a tight race, in fact, the tightest. This race happens to be a three-team show, while the other three teams can wait until next year.

Goodneighbor and Warwick are expected to tie for the division crown, with Quincy falling just a game behind. In other words, who knows what will happen? If the ML does fall the way it is predicted, the tiebreaker would make the winner the third overall seed in the Commonwealth Series tournament, while the runner-up would be the fifth seed.

The Atom Cats, Jamaica Plain, and University Point are all expected to tie for last place, all acting as nothing more than spoilers for the other three teams.

The Hancocks’ first baseman Bryan Assman is expected to beat out the Treasures’ first baseman Cody Flatt for the Most Valuable Player. On the mound, Mike Grille of Warwick is expected to be the most dominant pitcher, while Manny McDuff of the Gunners is predicted as the best starter.

RAILROAD LEAGUE

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588040797

The Railroad League is another league expected to have a runaway winner, with Oberland expected to take the well-preserved pie. Like Sunshine Tidings, the T-51s are well put together, having few obvious weaknesses throughout their lineup. By far, they are expected to be the top offense, expecting to average about a run an inning.

Behind the T-51s, the other five teams are expected to be in a tight race for second place and the expected eighth seed in the Commonwealth Series tournament. Shaw HS and Vault 81 are currently predicted to finish tied for second, with Diamond City and Fairline Hill Estates predicted to be tied for fourth. Egret is predicted to take up the rear.

Knuckle Punchers’ right fielder Damani Beebe is predicted to be the top player in the league. The Swatters’ Ricky Six Pack is expected to win the pitcher award, while the Yao Guai’s Bow Rome is expected to be the top starter.

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

1 April 2296 – Quincy Trades Wegott, Pol for Oberland's Drinkwater

Quincy and Oberland reported that the Gunners have reached a deal sending 25-year-old LF Ryan Wegott and 24-year-old LF Pol Graham to the T-51s for 27-year-old 1B Brian Drinkwater.

1 April 2296 – Brawl Affects Opening Weekend

For the first weekend of the first season of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, an incident between two players in the Railroad League may affect their teams to start the organization.

In a mixer at Fairline Hills Estate between the Yao Guai and Diamond City Swatters, a day before the two teams face off on the diamond, an incident cut the celebration short.

Fairline Hills Estate reliever Hercules Moss took exception to the young #2 starter for the Swatters, Mark Stuhlsatz, bragging about how he would “mow down the skinny bears like a bunch of bowling pins.” Moss approached Stuhlsatz and told him to “shut the [stuff] up.” Stuhlsatz responded by pushing Moss into a liquor table. Moss then punched Stuhlsatz and the melee was on.

Other players and personnel on each team kept their cool, breaking up the two.

There is no word yet on what will happen, but managers for each team expressed expectations of a short suspension, possibly for opening weekend. That would affect Diamond City more since Stuhlsatz is crayoned in as the #2 starter.

2 April 2296 – DCR Opening Weekend Series Preview

1 Attachment(s)
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1588285360

DCR – SALEM WITCH HATS (0-0) AT THE SLOG GHOULS (0-0)

WHAT TO KNOW

Salem is not expected to have a successful first season, with P.A.M. predicting the Hats at 28-32 in the Brotherhood League. They are expected to finish 5th in the league for runs scored (390) but lead the league in runs allowed (372). If they are scoring more runs than expected, the Witch Hats could be a contender for the division crown.

The Slog is predicted to finish 34-26 on the season in the BL, expected to match Finch Farm for the division win. There is something that seems to lift them ahead of any other team in the CBO: leadership. In order to find success, they will need to overcome the expectation that they are last in the BL in pitching. The Ghouls are expected to score 432 runs on the season, with 416 runs against them.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SALEM

Expect the Witch Hats to rely on strong pitching to stay in the game. Outside of pitching, they will probably rely on the bats of 3B Pistol Schmidt and 1B Antonio Toeclaw.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE SLOG

Hits, hits, and more hits. Other than at the catcher position, every other starter has better than average expectations. The Slog is expected to average a league-best 7.2 runs per game. They will have to start off hot against the Witch Hats’ first two starters, but few of their games are expected to be low-scoring affairs.

KEY PLAYERS IN THE SERIES

SAL: Starting Pitching—Josh Hugs beat out first-round pick Terrance Artman for the ace position in the lineup, which bodes well for the one-two punch. The CBO is expected to be all about the bats, but the Witch Hats’ pitching staff may have what it takes to keep them in more games than predictions indicate.

SLOG: Killer Infield – With the combination of Millioncap Go at 1B, C.T. Woodard at 2B, Lernz Tentsleep at SS, and Stoop Bugwing at 3B, the Ghouls should have the best infield in the CBO. Go and Tentsleep are both young but natural-born leaders that should help keep the team balanced when things do not go their way.

PREDICTION: Despite the season predictions, we at DCR think the Witch Hats will start off faster than the Ghouls. Maybe they'll find a little magic, or maybe some frog guts, in their hats. Anyway, for the weekend...

WRVR – CONCORD RADSTAGS (0-0) AT SUNSHINE TIDINGS CHEMISTS (0-0)

KNOW THE STARS

CON: LF Dan Erb – As the first-round pick, Erb seems to possess all the qualities needed in a top hitter. He has good bat control and can hit for power, which makes him a valuable hitter in the middle of the lineup. Concord has him batting second to help produce runs and drive in runs.

ST: SP Tony Bertha – The lefty ace has all around good tools that are expected to keep batters guessing. He has a fast windup and stretch, which gives batters little rest between pitches and keeps runners from getting a large start on the bases.

TEAM ANALYSIS

Concord is a young team expected to struggle at times. Reserve outfielder Thinker Brown is the oldest position player at 22. All three starting pitchers are 18 or younger, but the bullpen features six players over 30.

The Radstags’ long-term goal is to build a team that can stay together and gain a lot of wins. We will see how the chemistry holds up. Catcher Jim Carr and 2B Mike Armstrong have seemed to take on the leadership role, showing some compassion for other players’ needs.

Sunshine Tidings is expected to be the team of now, at least in the Institute League. Top-to-bottom, the Chemists seems to have the chemistry concocted they need to win it all. They are currently expected to win a league-best 39 games, which will put them at winning about two games every weekend.

There is little doubt that offense wins games in the CBO. While the Chemists are going to be in the run for top-scoring offense, there is little doubt that they will give up the fewest runs in the league. They are exprected to give up only 360 runs, while the second best through predictions is Lexington with 415, a difference of about one run per game.

PREDICTIONS

Game One: Radstags 8, Chemists 6

Game Two: Chemists 5, Radstags 2

Game Three: Chemists 11, Radstags 6

Surely all 'Caps' could be sponsored by Nuka Cola? :p

I have contemplated throwing some logos on to the teams since many of them are sponsored. However, that would mean editing all uniforms!

Hmmm.... just brainstorming here. There will probably be a minor league in the future because I hate having edited 1000 names but only 600 play. When I make those uniforms, the parent team's sponsor may be the team name.

I didn't make Nuka-Cola a current sponsor although I was thinking of incorporating Nuka World in some way into this dynasty. I also have places like Atomatoys, Vim!, Slocum's Joe, Drumlin Diner, Red Rocket, and a few others I can't think of offhand that have life in this dynasty.

I'm liking the sponsorship idea. Let us know what unfolds. Good work on this dynasty!
