I checked all pitchers who accumulated 50+ fWAR. The only two who ever wore single digit numbers were Feller (9 in his rookie year) and Billy Pierce, who wore 12, 20, and 5 at various times in his rookie season with the Tigers.

But I did say single digits for a reason. Bobo Newsom wore number 00 in his two separate 1-year stints with the Senators.

Bowa's records have since been broken, though he retains the NL mark for career fielding percentage.
