Bug: Playoff Problem

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned before, I tried to skim where I could...

In my first season with the default league St. Louis finished at 117-45, and Houston finished at 93-69, but they wound up playing each other in the first round. Houston should have played, Florida who finished 95-67. St. Louis should have played Los Angeles (84-79). So instead of 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3, it was 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4, with the wild card playing its own division champion as well....Im guessing the game has the wild card playing the top seed coded.

I apologize if this has already been reported.

Incorrect Playoff Formats

I noticed in a league i converted, i ran test sims to make sure everything is still A OK, and it was, until i got to the playoffs.

i noticed that the 1st season i simmed that Houston and Chicago both made the playoffs, with Chicago (Cubs) winning the Wildcard. they faced each other in the 1st round.

its probably just a logic thing that needs to be looked at.

Thanks.

OOTP has long not followed the MLB rule of not allowing the wild card in a 3-division setup to play the winner of their division in the first round of the playoffs.

Now that the game can permit setups like 10 divisions and 6 wildcards I think it may be less likely there will be a rule set in the game to not allow divisional opponents to play each other in the first round of the playoffs.

in OOTP6.5 i know it followed the rule, thats why i was surprised to not see it here, especially in the 3 division setup.

im hoping that this can be fixed.

Same here.

Yes, they fixed that wildcard bug in 6.5. I just noticed it's back in 2006.

I would rather this be an option rather than just a straight fix, but I will take a straight fix over nothing at all.

Only problem is for leagues with other playoff setups the idea of restricting a wildcard team from meeting the division winner from its own division could prove problematic.

Hopefully it will be possible to limit this restriction to only the three division winner, one wildcard setup. But the playoff setups seem to be more complicated to code than it might seem (at least, based on the reply I got from Markus about how much work incorporating the Shaughnessy playoff format into the game would take).

That's not an easy fix because of all the different playoffs possible... suggestions?

Comedian2004 06-03-2006 07:04 AM

See TT 869....

Please pardon my quasi-pseudo code :) :

j = NumberOfTeamsInPlayoffs

For i = 1 to (NumberOfTeamsInPlayoffs / 2)
print "In this round," j " will play " i "." *\print or do whatever with teams/*
j--
next i

A different routine would be used for Wild Card situations where team i becomes the Wild Card team when i = 1.

This is actually something that is pretty major and should really be looked at.

I wouldn't call it major, I'd call it more of an annoyance. There are probably some who prefer OOTP's way and think MLB's first round restriction is foolish anyway. :)

Also, if you're doing a historical league, the current MLB playoff matchup scheme was not used in 1995-1997 and an entirely different method was used. That system can't be recreated either.

Playoff Seeding Is Not Correct!

Post-Patch

1 League

16 Divisions

Wildcards

The Post-Season was seeded

1-32
2-31
3-30

and etc

down to 16-17

1-16 is Division winners

17-32 is Wildcard teams

So, in the second round, the 1 and 2 teams meet - UGH!!!

It should have been:

1-32
16-17

8-25
9-24

4-29
13-20

5-28
12-21

2-31
15-18

7-26
10-23

3-30
14-29

6-27
11-32

See what I mean????

david limbaugh 06-12-2006 05:55 PM

Do I get a TT #?

Or is this the place to get TT #'s ??

BigLou 06-12-2006 11:59 PM

And sure enough, I have the best record in the league in
season 2 with a week to go - and if I beat the worst-wildcard
team in round 1 of the playoffs I will be going up against
the second best team in round 2....

Has anyone else seen the bug?

david limbaugh 06-13-2006 05:38 PM

When do I get my first TT # ???

Just wondering - would like to see this fixed in next patch...
