Universe dead before initial draft

Problem: Initial draft can't start because I consistently get the following error "ERROR - Draft - no player picked!". I get the error once if I click continue draft, it appears continuelly if I auto pick until my next pick.

CPU specs:
XP Pro (SP2) Laptop
1.6GHz w/ 512 RAM
OOTP ver. 1.0.0.12231

Backround: Immediately after finishing the universe creation process I saved my universe and then saved as quick start. Then I started looking around my team, scouting staff, etc... Then I looked at my transaction page. Oddly I found two leagues (1 rookie and 1 A level league) already had 25 players each. I never intentially filled these leagues with players but can't be 100% sure that I didn't bump that button, twice. Then I noticed that two of my leagues had the same abbreviation. So I went into League Setup and edited the name and abbreviaiton of one of the leagues. Finally I was ready to start my draft. I clicked the random draft order button 7 times and then click continue draft to see who the first team took.

Ok guys I'm going to hold off on starting to recreate my league. Is there anything I can do to either fix my problem or at least help prevent it from happening again to myself or others?

UPDATE: Recreated my league using the Quick Start I created. Same problem but I discovered if I draft in commish mode I can select players for all teams. The Continue Draft button still produces the problem in commish mode.

UPDATE: Ok I may have solved this one. When I tried to install the patch earlier this evening (before starting to build my universe) I executed file ootp2006_setup_101. It seemed to install fine. Now I realize that I should have executed OOTP2006_patch_101. So I essentially reinstalled OOTP over top of itself. Now I have installed the patch and my version number has changed to 1.0.1.12242. I'm assuming since I created my universe in a screwed up installation my universe is dead. Really hate to have to input all that again.

Hmm, I'm not sure of whether your info is recoverable. It certainly sounds like you're going to need to recreate it... :(
