Season "ends" and "playoffs start" before first games!

While waiting around for the first mini-patch, I thought I would start a small league to keep me busy, OOTP-wise. I began a game with two subleagues and one division in each SL. Six teams in each division. Fifty game (OOTP-generated) schedule. Originally, I wanted interleague play and had it set for that. I also had it set with the default average series length, 3 games. I decided after starting the game, though still on the first day of the year, I think (or pretty close to it) that I ought to change the ave. series to 2 games because of the season length. Thus, I came upon the bug where you have to uncheck interleague play before you regenerate the schedule, so I did that and regenerated the schedule with the average series set at 2 games. I proceeded to go through spring training simming games and responding to trade offers. Brought a few players up and sent a few down. (I only have one minor league here, btw, a AAA level. Those are the only leagues in this world.) I thought everything was fine with the schedule because the spring schedule looked fine and I didn't bother to look ahead. Well, I got to opening day (opening day and the start of spring training were set to their default dates). Only to find no games scheduled. Well, I thought that was strange but just possibly understandable, so I simmed to the next day. Still nothing. And the day after that. Nothing again. So, I went to look at the schedule which you'll see in the html dump below. There aren't any "regular season" games until Oct. 20! Then the schedule appears to continue "normally", but something is still out of whack. Look at the attached screen showing the menu with the sim-to dates: "regular season" ends May 26 (before any games are played), the "playoffs" begin May 28, again before any games, all star teams area announced Nov. 8, after about a month of games and the all-star game is Nov. 15! Now, I don't mind the positioning of the all-star game, but how can the season end and playoffs start before any games are played? Anyone else have this happen?

I'm running the Mac version in OS X 10.4.7, on a MacBook with a 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo with a GB of RAM.

I'm pretty sure the issue with the autoplay calender being out of whack (i.e. showing "Playoffs begin 5/28") is only cosmetic and happens all the time when you're regenerating a schedule with different properties. The events should still take place on their "proper" dates, but you obviously can't autosim to them directly using the calendar.

As for the schedule being moved to strange dates (resulting in spring training being scheduled for December and other such nonsense), I've encountered that as well, but haven't tried to track it down. I think it happens when you're regenerating the schedule too late in the year, confusing the game in some way. (Not sure what constitutes "too late" though...January 2nd might already do it, especially in the very first season.)

Only regenerate a schedule or import a different schedule during pre-season period. Doing either of the aforementioned actions at any other point in the season may cause issues.

Yes, however "issue" = "bug" = "TT". :)

Not technically, since you're doing a function when that function is not supposed to be run. No one to blame but yourself in such cases. :D

What's wrong with changing the schedule before the season starts? Nothing. (edited to add: as you can see from my first post, that's what I did do. "Before the season starts", especially if on the first few days of the year is "preseason", right?) Even if there was something wrong with doing this, at the very least, it should put up a message to the effect of "Sorry, you cannot edit schedules at this point in the year. Please try again at " X, Y, or Z, and then not let you change the schedule. Letting the user screw up the game is... er... how do I put this mildly... not good programming. Ever hear of error handling?

No argument from me on that point.

I'm sorry for the awfully slow response to this thread. :(

Obviously, some time has passed since you posted this issue, and the 1.0.2 patch has since been released as well. Are you still seeing this issue? I have not been able to reproduce it so far.

Please let me know!

Thanks,

Steve

I'm trying, but I haven't either so far.

Alright, shall I just move it to "Claimed Fixed" for now?

OakDragon 07-18-2006 02:58 PM

I guess so... I just tried again and it generated a schedule just fine, though only once I had turned interleague play off, of course.

battists 07-18-2006 03:03 PM

Well, I'll close it for now. We can always re-open if it crops up again.

Thanks!
