Every player on the 40 man roster does NOT need to have a ML contract!!

After 3 years of service a player must be put on the 40 man roster or he is eligible to be drafted in the Rule 5 draft....He DOES NOT need to have a ML contract. In the next patch only the players on the 25 man roster should be on the 40 man roster and almost no players who have yet to play in the majors should have ML contracts. It ought to be up to the human player how he or she wants to manage their roster.

This patch has screwed up roster management because it arbitrarily put minor league players on the 40 man roster and awarded them major league contracts. Highly unrealistic. And there is no way to take them off.

There is no way to remove players from a 40 man roster? That's a big problem that I've never experienced in the game.

Only by waivers or release. And thats because everyone on the 40 man roster now has a major league contract. Human managers should get to decide which minor leaguers to put on the 40 man roster.

Erich Ingram 07-07-2006 05:15 PM

If you designate the player of Assignment that should take them off the ML roster, but it won't change their contract.

bp_ 07-07-2006 05:15 PM

This is a problem.

Mr.Opinion 07-07-2006 05:20 PM

EDIT: Bit my own tongue.

And because of the ML contract they have to clear waivers before they can be removed from the 40 man roster. :(

Sure, but you aren't granted a major league contract when placed on the 40-man roster if you are a player in the minors. The major league contract doesn't happen until a player is added to the 25 man active roster for the first time (or when you sign a FA to a major league deal).

It sounds like the game isn't following this logic right now.

1) If you want realistic they shouldnt all have major league contracts

2) If you want it to be 'in your hands' minor league players shouldnt be on the 40 man roster unless we put them there

I realized this after I re-read your initial post. Didn't get my post editted in time. Sorry for the confusion. :D

Well, mebbe because something changed between the time it was tested and released?

bp_ 07-07-2006 05:30 PM

Question - I haven't patched yet. If I have a game started already will the game give all the minor leaguers on my 40-man a major league deal or does this only happen when starting a new league? Thx.

andymac 07-07-2006 05:31 PM

Being placed on a the 40-man roster should get the players a pretty significant raise. However, it does not give them a major league contract.

Also, I'm still unsure why it has been made that a player with a MaL contract has to be on the 40-man. If he passes through waivers (when removed from the 40-man), why wouldn't a team be able to place that player with his major league contract in the minors?

right. 6.5 had this stuff right, why not the new version?

Marc Duffy 07-07-2006 05:42 PM

This isnt 6.5, this is a total rewrite.

This is a work in progress patch and thankyou for raising an issue. Please make sure it's in tech support and it'll get logged and checked over

Stock answer. Shouldn't matter. How hard is it to transfer the same logic when it comes to a set of rules for roster eligibility. Anyway...

OK sorry for being harsh :o :flowers:

Mr.Opinion 07-07-2006 05:49 PM

Apparently, the raise is to at least a minimum contract of $37,000. It's still not a major league contract ($300k), but it does have a least a minimum that they must paid.

bababui 07-07-2006 05:49 PM

Minor leagers on 40 man roster dont need major league contracts
