Question about Amateur Draft

I'm trying to create a historical league with real players being drafted instead of going to their original teams. So my question is how many rounds should I set the draft to? If I set it to 50 rounds, will fictional players be created? Or, if I set it to a low number of rounds, will some players be omitted from the draft, and sign to teams as amateur free agents?

Don't worry about setting the draft rounds too high for historical leagues. The game will not fill out the rounds with fictional players. If you do set the number of rounds too low though, any undrafted players will become free agents.

If this helps any for how many rounds to have, I think the most players to ever debut was 358 in 1884. Since 1900, the most was 236 in 1914 I believe...

Thanks for the help, guys. :)

There's no way to get the game to fill in fictional players in the draft, correct?

I am not sure if this is related at all, but I think I screwed up my historical sim. I started in 1978 and set it to import real players, but also set it to do a draft (7 rounds). I then set the draft for June 1st. On May 2nd of 1978 the game created a draft pool which seems to include all fictional players...including some that are 29--I gotta try this again, I must have screwed something up...could my database path be set incorrectly?

Well I looked a little closer and the proper rookies are there, but I must have done something at the game creation level to screw this up so that a ton of fictional guys were included ...I did this twice from the same quick start with the same results, 225 players created, the majority fictional.

I think I over-screwed around with this one because a happy accident happened: the game created another set of the draft class and I was able to identify who was real and who was fictional because the real guys we created twice. I did this becasue at one point in my panic mode I set the draft back to march 1st 1979, just in case I couldn't resolve the fictional player problems. On May 30th of 1978 the game created a new draft class and voila I was able to make the identification. I then spent the next half hour deleting 400 fictional players. On june 1st I had a 6 round draft with real players. At least that's what I think happened!
