2989 - Game crashes with template error in Vista
Game Crashes
PC/MAC: PC What were you doing? Trying to start a new game. What happened? After going through and setting up my league, and choosing my Manager name, when I choose start game, I get "the program has stopped responding" message, and have to close it down. Then when I tried to re-open it I get messages galore: TEXT_Engine;;my_load_text_file() - Folder doesn't exist and then about 30 others. Reproducible? Yes Problem occurs with other leagues? Yes I am running windows vista ultimate if that helps. I am working from a fresh instal (obvious since it's day one of release) |
Did you change the locaion of your user data using the game preferences dialog?
|
I didn't change anything in options I just started a game.
|
Hi Khrag, first thing I'd try is to uninstall the game, reboot the computer and then reinstall it. I haven't seen that type of crash before and I don't have Vista. The reason I'd like you to reinstall is because of all the error you are getting when launching the game. Or do those errors pop up after you try to restart this game.
Did you save a template of your world? Can you restart a new game with the same template? Can you create a smaller world and see if that will start? After you clicked start game did any windows pop up, like creating player names, pictures, anything? If a clean install doesn't work, I'll create a ticket for you. |
OK, Uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed and I get the same messages when I try to run the game.
the next 31 pop up message is about the templates engine. |

I forgot to ask you to delete the SI folder from My Documents. Last I checked, I don't think that OOTP does that for you. The templates folder is located in there, I'm wondering if that's the problem? How about going into the SI folder in My Docs (the default game folder) and navigating through to the world_templates folder. Do you see the template in there? Maybe cut it out, and restart the game to see if the issues continue. Just to be clear, do these 31 messages pop up after you double click the icon to start the game, or after to try to start your saved games? |
You probably have My Documents on a network location. Follow these directions from the FAQ:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=142326 I also saw this once when the data directory under Program Files/Sports Interactive/OOTP 2007/ was missing or incomplete. |
OK when I uninstalled I removed it from the documents folder (incedently it's not called my documents in Vista, it's under a path like (C:/username/documents) irrelevent I know) I also deleted the main instal folder.
When I reinstalled, same problems. I tried looking for the world_templates folder and it isn't there. and the 32 messages (first one I posted then the next 31 are about the templates) happen right after I double click the icon on my desktop to start the game. Khrog, thanks for the link, but the Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config also doesn't exist. |
oh, its khrog and khrag :@@:
at first i thought he was talking to himself :o try this: uninstall delete folders reboot reinstall right click and run as admin disable any anti virus programs while you reinstall |

and I have the exact same problem again. as soon as I double click on the icon on my desktop, the splashcreen comes up and all the error messages start. I can hit OK for all 32 errors, and get into the game, but if I try to start a game it crashes. |

Where, exactly, is the game installing the Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data folder on your machine? |
which do you mean, the one here:
C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 or the one here: C:\Users\myname\Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 |
khrag,
If you do this, what happens? Can you see the files like "app" and "config"? Open the Windows Start menu, click on "Run", enter %appdata%\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config and hit Enter. If so, even though we're not talking about a network drive here, try these steps. I just want to see if moving the data somewhere else on your drive and setting a path to it resolves the issue: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=142326 When it says "My Documents" in there, use this folder you mentioned: C:\Users\myname\Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 |
ok in here:
C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data I have a fonts and a skins folder, background jpeg, changelist txt, and 4 PNG files (loading, ootp, sega, and si) and thats it Here: C:\Users\myname\Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data I have ballcaps, ballparks, database, facegen, help, jerseys, logos, photos, pictures, quickstartgames, savedgames, schedules, stats, templates, and text folders. and thats it. no programs no apps, nothing else. Am I missing something? Also, in Vista there is no "run" in the start menu, MS in their infinate wisdom did away with it. |
OK, I need to find some more Vista fodder. Something sounds weird here, because we had several people testing with Vista, and no one ever mentioned these sorts of issues...
Let me see what I can do... Steve |
ok I'm here Steve.... I will edit in once I've read everything
|
thanks
if this helps, when I actually get into the game and try to start a new game it runs but as soon as the "loading fictional characters" load screen comes up (and I mean almost instantly) I get the windows message that says "this program has stopped responding" and the only option is "close down program" |
Apparently you can get the run command back:
1. Right Click on Start Menu 2. Go to Properties 3. On Start Menu Tab Click Customize button next to Start menu radio control 4. Scroll through the main box and you will see a Checkbox for Run Command 5. Check this and you are done 6. You will now have the Run command on your Start menu. |
Ok first off, uninstall one more time.... Because the game actually uses 3 file locations in Vista.
Besides the two you mention here Quote:
So first step is to enable seeing hidden folders, then Goto Admin in the start menu (Could possibly be your User ID name, I never named mine) Top right side of the Start menu, then you should see App Data. Make sure everything is deleted there. Then Re install the game and the first time you load the game, right click and choose run as Admin. If this doesn't work I will check back in a bit |
lol awesome,
I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a guy from Microsoft Canada (an aquintance of mine) and he couldn't find it for the life of him! Just goes to show: "those that can, do. Those that can't, work for micro$oft" APujols5 Trying it now |
