Another (much clearer) 3rd baseman PbP error

Sounds like a shift with the third baseman playing at the grass where the SS would be and everyone else was deep and shifted to the right.

Is there such a shift in the game?

If there is, it's even more of a need to have the screen reflect the defensive settings because that's one stupid looking pbp call without the shift. :)

I remember a game or two where Barry Bonds was batting and there wasn't a single player on the left side of the field. That's a little extreme but it happened.

That said, I don't know if this is a bug or not. Should have someone from the PbP group coment.

EDIT: Problem with XML? Maybe that would be along your line of work. :)

That would be ME! :)

I've got it logged as a bug already. Your explanation makes sense, but I didn't know if OOTP would have such a shift. If it does and the play was okay in that sense, it's even more necessary to have the defensive positioning told on the screen somewhere (although it should be anyhow) just because without it the play looks really bad.

We've had plays like this before, ball hit to the catcher that the pitcher fields, balls hit to the pitcher that the 2B fields... all have been fixed. This shouldn't be any problem to get fixed... it just hid better. :)

Bababui, with this post, we're in good hands with this issue. Thanks tysok!

Personally, I read it as the ball was heading closer to second than third, the third baseman charged across the infield, in front of the shortstop and made the play, especially since the ball was a "weak trickle", and therefore not moving too fast. You see plays like that fairly often in baseball.
