Historical League with fictional players...can't get it to work?

Historical League with fictional players
I have tried twice to set up a historical league from 1901 using fictional players and setting all the correct historical variables on the League tab except I removed
importing fictional players. I had the automatic league expension with the league expension draft set. I have ran the league up through 1952 thus far and it has never expanded...I still only have 8 teams...for example, the Brooklyn Dodgers are still there. Either the historical league wizard with the expansion option does not work or I am doing something wrong. I also ran the league again from 1901 left the orginal players in the league but set the randomly reassign new names to the players. It still hasn't expanded beyond the 8 teams. What should I do? Thanks

There was no expansion in baseball until 1961.

Check out my Baseball Chrono. Link is in my signature.

1. You probably should have started out with 16 teams in 1901, since that was the year the AL became a major league.

2. The Dodgers didn't move to Los Angeles until I believe '58. In fact, between 1903 and 1953 *no* team changed cities. The first team to move was IIRC the Boston Braves to Milwaukee, followed by the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore. Again, if you don't have the AL, you won't see the latter shift happen.

BruceM's Baseball Chronology, by the way, is a wonderful wonderful tool.

Baltimore moved to New York early on. So did Milwukee to St. Louis. When ever I ran a test Lahman's historical league, these teams never move so I just forget about doing such a thing.

Odd, I've had no problems with teams moving/name changes, etc at all.

Make sure you have "Automatically Expand League" checked and if you want Ruth to change from a pitcher to a hitter in 1919 you need to have "Recalc Player Ratings based on real stats after each year" checked also.

Which DB did you use? I got the Lahmans 5.4.

Granted I only tried it once, so maybe another go will get it to work.

I did alter the league names. That might have done something. Because I just tried it again this morning to no avail. I know now that it is my fault here, so I just have to figure out what mistake I am making. It might be the name thing,

I am also trying Comedian2004's guide to doing a historical league with fictional players, which requires deleting all the players, clearing out histories etc. Maybe I am clearing out too much and unchecking too many boxes.
