FTP Test - Unable to Connect

I just purchased OOTP 2007 and a few of friends of mine (who are waiting to make sure I can set the league up before they purchase) ;-) would like to set up an online league.

I have a personal virtual server in which I installed ProFTP in order to transfer the league files (thus, I have full control over the sever's FTP settings). Whenever I attempt to connect to it through OOTP, I get a message stating that it fails to connect to the server.

Things I've tried:
  • Connecting to the FTP server via another program (IE & cygwin's ftp from the command prompt). This works.
  • Changing the server from the hostname to the IP address. Did not work.
  • Connecting through OOTP to the OOTP's support FTP site just to test... this worked. It connected.
  • Upgrading the software to version 2.0.2. This didn't have any effect.
  • Turning off all firewalls on my desktop. No effect.
Since I could connect to OOTP's support FTP site through the software, I'm pretty sure it must be something wrong with my server. But I really don't know what else to try.

Any suggestions? I'm using Vista Ultimate if that matters.

FTP Reaching Server

I was doing some testing tonight and checked the server FTP Logs. I found this line:

Nov 6 23:12:24 ryanbarger proftpd[5390]: ryanbarger.com ([my ip addy][my ip addy, again]) - FTP session opened.

So it looks like the request is reaching the server. But it still fails every time.

Issue Resolved

There was a server tweak made to /etc/xinetd.d/xproftpd that helped improve the amount of time it takes to log in. This fixed it. So, apparently what was happening was my other FTP clients were willing to wait for the login while OOTP was timing out and returning the error.

This case can be closed.
