can't load online league file
I've patched to the latest update, (which the league is using.) I'm running a mac osX and ootp 2007. The league file downloads fine, and I move it into the saved game folder. when I try to load the saved game though, it runs through the %s as if it will work, before giving me an errorr message that says something like "the file is either corrupt or from and older saved version".
In taking a closer look at the .lg file in the saved games, I think it may revolve around the .dat files. In a working saved game, they show up in the finder as pictures - little black boxes that are labeled "Unix executable files". the .dat files in the problem .lg folder are recognized as documents by my mac. Any help is much much appreciated |
Are the .dat files in your non-working league empty?
|
I don't think they're empty, players.dat is 24 MB, some of the others are only 4kb but those seem to be small files in a working league as well.
After looking harder, the scouting file in the working league is a .dat file, but in the nonworking league it was converted to a .txt file. I have to think this is something with the way safari/my mac is unzipping files. When I download the league file, it shows up in my downloads, and it seems to be unzipped automatically by safari or some other program. Then I move the .lg folder into the saved games folder of ootp, and the .dat files ares still recognized as documents instead of unix executable files. I'm stumped. |
I can't be a whole lot of help with unzipping problems, especially on a Mac.
Not having a scouting.dat file would be a problem. Can you figure out how to convert the .txt back to a .dat? Maybe just rename it to the proper extension? |
tried and that does not work.
|
Maybe you can get the file in a different compressed format that won't automatically be unzipped by your computer so that you can go about doing it properly?
Presumably, all of your solo leagues work just fine? |
yeah, solo leagues are fine
|
it also doesn't seem to be isolated to my league. other online leagues I'm trying to download are having the same issue.
|
It looks to be a result of the latest patch for OOTP8:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=158310 |
from what I read in that, he's having the same problem, but in ootp8. (although he does say he had the problem using 2007 also).
|
That'll teach me to ... read ... properly. :)
So yeah, it looks like you are having some trouble unzipping your files. Can you try to get a commish to compress the files in a different format, or (though I shudder to suggest it), send the dat files without zipping them first? |
Try downloading the file manually, and save it to an arbitrary location.
After you download the file, navigate to that folder and make sure that the scouting.dat is a .dat file before you place it in the league folder. Then, copy and paste each .dat one at a time into your league file, and see if that works. If the file is coming out of the zip as a .txt as soon as it's uncompressed, then I'm out of guesses. Doing this may not fix your problem, but it may help determine where the problem lies. |
All the files are dat files. I have no clue what it is I quess I will have to go back to 2007 thanks for trying to help
|
Did you try the manually copy and pasting I suggested?
|
Don't give up on OOTP8, because just this evening I was able to download a league file and use it, so this should be a fixable problem.
|
I'll try that when I get home. I gave up again last night.
And don't worry, I won't give up on OOTP8, it sounds like fun. But I'm using 2007. |
and problem solved - was getting the league file from the wrong place.
