I just took a quick look...it appears to be in "development" at this time but there seems to be a serious effort to put this game on the market.

Strikes me as being somewhat interesting to note how quickly a game developer can move...when they actually want to move.

If this thing does get on the shelf within a few months, you have to wonder how many TBCB players will still be here to "get their fix from 2.6."

Hanson Bros 03-22-2013 04:58 PM

I wouldn't get too excited ... all he is doing is graphics right now ... hasn't even looked at a game engine ... he told me that sometime this year he is going to start a kickstarter drive for funding for the game ... honestly it looks a lot more like a graphic design school project than anything else ... all that effort into design one arena

Hope it works out ... the more the merrier but until someone comes out with a game engine that is even close to what Andreas has then it's all just pretty pictures

edit: his last post was 2/12 so not sure how quickly it is moving :D

Well "moving quickly" doesn't exactly describe what we've been seeing around these parts...does it?;)

Personally, I'm one of the old fossils who has no interest in a RPG...strictly a replay type, so I'm here for the long haul.

But the subsequent generation of gamers are hot for this sort of thing...and if they don't get something along these lines, they'll jump this sinking ship for another one in the bat of an eye.

And as far as just "pretty pictures", isn't that all we're getting thus far in the form of these little teasers that have been posted for 2.6?

Unless I missed something (which is possible), I haven't seen anything that would compel me to drop 2.5 for 2.6 as long as I'm using Windows 7 (something I plan to do for at least the next couple of years).

From what I've seen, this long-promised 2.6 is essentially a rearranging of the furniture that's in 2.5.

I'm sorry but this enitre thing is ridiculous. Three years ago over in the SAT forum a small handful of us "ganged up" on Richard Hanna in June to have him revise/update Headed Goal PC Soccer. Richard's the busiest (and best) sports sim programmer in the business. He had a substantive revision on the market in less than two months...and Headed Goal is not a very big seller!

You might be correct in taking a somewhat dismissive view of what this guy is doing. Nevertheless, if someone does pursue the RPG angle for a boxing sim and gets it on the market, you have to wonder how many people here will be inclined to go over the fence.

I don't post very often, but I simply had to Echo your comment on Richard Hanna. In fact, I wish that some of us would again "gang up" on Richard to revise and update his own boxing simulation, whose engine I maintain is the best that I've seen in any boxing sim to this day ... including TBCB! I'd written to him once some years ago, and he dug through some old notes to give me all of the details behind rating boxers in his sim so that I could accurately rate my own. It was marvelous the way the attribute categories all worked together to create a complete and accurate profile of a fighter. If not for needing the ability to adjust some referee tendencies (fights had a habit of being called too often), and needing a slightly more realistic representation of punch output ... that engine blows away all of the other games on the market, and i've played MANY. Cheers to Richard, and good call Professor!

Gee, Professor! How much more information do you need? We've already been told they're at build 7 with only 30 or 40 more to go, barring having to work on some other project or getting the groceries. It's painfully obvious this is a part-time thing and you can't blame Paul because he's not the boss. Apparently Andreas has precious little thought left for this boxing sim. He has to spend all his efforts on yet another update of OOTP, leaving one lowly hard-pressed drudge to carry on in the cellar with his coal-fired Commodore 64. I really don't expect to ever see a version 3, and chances are I won't live to see 2.6 either at the present rate of progress. If we do, it'll be bug-riddled because they had to rush it out.....

Guess I'll go back to my stamp collection and manuscript illumination. Best of luck to the new guy.

Without good competition there is no great progress quality games! Competition must be! Very interesting, how gameplay simulation of fight will be in this new RK-roun1 game. Now only new skins and options we can see on the pics. I hope, what in TBCB game we'll see new Career manager mode + new 3D simulation of fight + black vs black, white vs white ..figters can be (maybe some options to edit fighters body and face, hair type, stance style for more realistic). Animations of TBCB is only some old pics animated in fight - it looking good, but it need to upgrade to 3d modern version, given these ratings skills of fighters! Options of Promotions (and edit too, create new) need to for interesting to future!

I emailed the guy behind this (his name is Jordan IIRC) and he said they plan to do a Kickstarter campaign in April 2013 with a hoped for release date of November 2014. Like you say Mike it's just wishware at the moment.

I have this boxing game (World of Boxing) and Richard Hanna is the programmer only, the designer is Terry Goodchild. Not knocking Richard, he is an excellent programmer but if he was able to revise games like Headed Goal within a 2 month period it is helped by the fact that he has one of the best sports games designers like Terry helping and guiding him. Just want to give Terry his credit for the design of games like World of Boxing and Headed Goal, both of which were computer versions of board games also designed by Terry.
I emailed Richard some time ago (maybe 2 years ago) and asked if he planned an updated version of World of Boxing and sadly the answer was no.

The kick started is still up, with a target of 300K. The deadline is early May, and so far they've raised only a few hundred pounds. Not looking likely fellows.

I have been told by one of the developers that there is a plan B and plan C should the kickstarter total not be raised.

Hanson Bros 04-05-2013 03:38 PM

will probably donate a bit early next month ... esp. if he starts to get closer

I'll never quit TBCB because of my universe but it would be fun to have another game just to mess around with

damianhucker1 04-05-2013 03:44 PM

ill be donating to the kickstarter , £20 that doesnt even get taken if they dont make the target , and if they do then you get a copy of the game , which even if it turns out turd its worth a gamble , if i saw it on the shelf id pay £20 without knowing anything about it , like i did with a few other boxing games that turned out to be pants, so if im willing to do that , as im sure many others are then £20 is no biggie

My thoughts exactly, I've donated £40 so far. Where is Azzaa when you need him? :-)

rudel.dietrich 04-05-2013 04:59 PM

I donated £40 but seeing as how they are 1.2% to their goal I see them being funded as extremely unlikely.

I think this is a bit too ambitious for a first attempt. If it were me, I would drop the 3-D engine and focus exclusively on the game features, fight engine and database.
I LOVE the Football Manager style boxer profile. I would be happy with a commentary only fight screen and would be thrilled to death with two 2-D dots fighting.
I think they are swinging for the fences with a 3-D engine and are likely going to strike out.

I agree it seems as though they are trying to throw every thing in on version 1 ... without a good fight engine he has no game

rudel.dietrich 04-06-2013 03:09 AM

The more I look at this the sadder I become. I think they have a terrific UI by pretty much cloning FM and to a lesser extent EHM and OOTP.
I am in complete love with the fighter profiles, short lists, search function, filters etc.
If you are up and coming there is no shame in stealing the UI straight from FM.

But 50% of Kickstarter funding comes in the first 24 hours and the last 24 hours and they have not even broke £400 yet.

Is the market for boxing sims really this poor?
