export problems

One user in our league is in several other leagues. His exports work fine there. Hes getting an error 202 in our league. I see his export on the server along side the other exports but it's size is 0k. Obviously the path must be correct. Can someone help?

Consider reinstalling? Run as administrator during the export?

stevew 09-04-2013 01:43 AM

I don't see how that fixes anything. Anyways I shouldn't have expected anything. It's 14 versions of fix it yourself. I still have an open ticket from 2 weeks ago.

And ver 14 FA compensation is still incorrect which is pretty awesome

10 days and not a word from OOTP....

Is his accountsdata_gms.dat file corrupted?
I would have him redownload that file and make sure he over writes or deltes the old one.

He's re done that several times. Why would he be sending a 0kb file up to our server? It works fine on all 4 of his other leagues but it's an issue for his export to this league. nobody else in the league has an issue.

When you export it creates the file on your computer then uploads it. Is the file on his computer 0 bytes in size? Knowing this will tell if it is a problem with the file creation or the upload process.

He mails me the exports and they work fine. I've recreated the gmsdata file a bunch of times. I'm assuming there is some firewall issue or something? when he uploads in game it's 0kb that hit the server but I'm assuming the file on his machine is full size.

If he emails the file and it is fine then yes I would assume the file is full size on his computer. The fact that it creates the 0 byte file on the server says he is getting through his firewall. When he gets the 202 error does it happen immediately or does it take a little time? I'm no FTP expert but it almost sounds like his connection is either timing out after it creates the 0 byte file or his connection is being terminated.

In looking for similar FTP behavior (outside of OOTP) I'm seeing comments that this can happen if FTP is in 'active' mode and suggestions made to put it in 'passive' mode. Again, I'm not FTP expert just reporting what I've found so far.

The problem is probably that the client was not using "passive mode" FTP (which is the default for W7/IE)
An alternative is to make sure that ports 20 AND 21 are permitted passage in your firewall(s) - hardware and software.
Traditional FTP uses two ports, one for control, one for the transfer traffic.
If I find anything else I will post it.

From what I can see the difference between Active is Passive is this:

Active: Client connects to server and then the server connects to either port 20 or 21 on the server and pulls the data over.

Passive: Clients connects to server and then the client pushes the data to the server.

So if the FTP connection is set to 'Active' in your leagues online set up then the GM has to make sure that ports 20 and 21(or whatever port the seerver is trying to connect to) are open. If it is active the server may not be able to get through the GMs firewall.

An easy test would be to have the GM shutdown any firewall he has and try the transfer. If the transfer then works then the issue is his firewall.

thanks for the help. I believe he's tried the non-firewall option. If it's the way the server reacts, do you have any clue as to which setting might need to be changed?

I don't know what you could do on the server side.

In your league setup, under ONLINE OPTIONS --> Online League Settings, do you have FTP in passive or active mode? That is the one place I think you can change it from the 'server' point of view.

You could change it and give him the new accounts data file and have him try it. If it then works have another GM install the new accounts file and try it.

In the one online league I run I have the FTP mode set to 'Passive; Standard FTP' (not SSL or TSL)

Seems to me I have seen it mentioned that if you use SSL you could see similar behavior.
