Expansion/History Question

So I'm going to expand my MLB league for the 2017 season into Portland and Montréal. I have the uniforms, logos, schedule, playoff structure, everything all squared away (I think).

But there's one thing that isn't exactly a huge deal, but will annoy me endlessly. Am I able to reclaim the Expos history from Washington? If so, how? Has anyone done this before?

One more thing. Does anyone know if the expansion teams get assigned draft picks in the first-year player draft?

Thanks

If they get added in the 2016 offseason, for 2017 season, they'll have picks in the 2017 June draft. I think it gives them picks 1/2.

I would think that only one team can have the Montreal/Washington history. So assuming that in your sim Montreal moved to Washington as in real life, and you still have the Washington team - with Expos history - in your league, and wish to keep Washington in your league, I would think you have two choices:

1. Montreal is a true expansion team, with no history (sounds like you don't want this).
2. Washington moves back to Montreal, bringing its full history with it. And then you expand to Washington, which would - as an expansion team - have no history. Then for your expansion draft, Washington - not Montreal - would obviously be the team drafting. Once that's complete, you could manually move all of the Montreal players back to Washington, and all of the newly drafted Washington players to Montreal... Montreal would then be the expansion team in the form of its player composition, but would have history (but no history of an expansion draft). Washington would be a continuation of the existing team in terms of personnel, but would have no history (except for that of an expansion draft that didn't really apply to it).

I could be completely misunderstanding what you are trying to accomplish, and/or unaware of a better way to do it. So this may not be helpful at all.. ;)

That's kind of what I thought. Like I said, it's not a huge deal or anything. The Expos would just be starting from scratch.

I can confirm this is correct. I have to go and edit the draft to move expansion team picks to the bottom of the round.

Life is tough for an expansion team.
