New Import/Export Feature???
Okay. I exported my free agents to the .txt file then tried to import them to my first year player draft pool. It says it worked but none of them showed up. Also tried vice-versa (draft pool guys to free agents - no go).
Isn't that what this is supposed to do? What am I missing here? |
The way I had to make it work- trial and error -was to do the export, then open Excel, select Import from Other (something like that), select text, and locate the file. Then it went through the typical delimited choices, mostly default I think, then finished. Done. There it is.

i never knew about this until it was pointed out to me last year. Might not be what you were after, but thought i'd point it out in case it might be. |

If I take an entry from the free agent.txt and add it to the draft pool.txt file, then reimport, it does not add that additional player. Ugh. |
I don’t think you can cross txt files like that. I could be wrong. They’d need their status or eligibility changed or the sort.

is that a column header? eligibiity? if so could mass edit it for all in the export.
second option: shortlist all the FA you intend to add -- for later use. allow pool to be created -- make sure its #'s exceeds or matches the # of FA you want to add. (we intend to re-use their playerID's) export playrs (includes the FA) as well as teh draft pool. paste over all the columns Except player id from just the FA poriton of the exported draft players. you have basically replaced those new playerid's with their ratings/names and such -- if there is a column realting to eligibility, you won't be doing this anyway.. but make sure there isn't one first before pasting. now, since they are duplicated and part of the draft pool, delete the entire shortlist of FA. any excess non-FA leftover in draft pool would need to be taken care of too. sorting before pasting could help you do this in a quick and easy manner too. oh, just change all first names to "z" or something -- easy to select/delete a large group in game that way. (anything that can be filtred, paste somethign unique in exported file to find them in game after import). do not just delete rows from exported draft class.. that will almost assuredly cause problems in teh database. obviously, use a restored backup to test this. don't screw up your league wihtout knowing it will work 100% as intended. one thing that used to be a potentially bad thing about the FA draft function -- when i tried one it always included the draft class... maybe that was nly with "real" players, but it would cause a huge pool of additional talent i ddin't intend to have in the draft. just one more reason to kick it around in a restored, throw-away league in case it gets f'd in the a, so to speak.. |
