Player not increasing defensive rating
I've waited a day to post this as I wasn't sure if I was just being impatient. I still may be, but I do believe this has taken longer than it should by now.
I put Fernando Tatis Jr. Future Legend at 3B and expect that he should max out at 67 total - 60 Range, 66 Error, 81 Arm, 56 TDP. I confirmed this using an OOTP test league and the editor. He has been stuck at a 54 rating at 3B for close to a month now. He has definitely been playing - 73 games at 3B, 208 total chances - but no increase in total 3B rating. |
Does he throw with his left or right hand?

He is right handed and has increased his rating already but is stuck.

It seems that the last few bits of positional experience are the longest/hardest for guys to earn, at least in my experience.
So I suspect this is normal and you'll see him gain that last bit pretty soon. If it doesn't happen in like a full season, then post again and let us know so we can look into it further. |

Players will gain the first bit of experience quite quickly, but then will be slow going after that. Some players will learn faster than others, too, and there is some randomness involved. Eventually he'll get there.

Update on this: Tatis increased his positional rating from 54 to 57 while playing in 147 games and with 394 total chances. Interestingly enough, after finally getting from 54 to 55, he got to 56 almost immediately. I still think there's something off here, since I believe his maximum is 67. This should be accomplished within 240 career games at a position I would think. I also see outfielders gaining positional ratings much more rapidly than infielders.

Okay checking in after another full season - still not maximized defensively. After 390 games, 3,462 innings, and 992 total chances - Fernando Tatis Jr. still needs some more experience. He is now at 60 for a 3B positional rating.
