Tripping in the basepaths

I've seen players trip going around the bases especially coming around third, most recently Randy Arozarena in game 4, but have never seen it happen in OOTP. Am I just missing it or is tripping in the basepaths not an outcome programmed in the game?

It's not, explicitly, in the game

It's unlikely there's any data on how often players trip while running.

That's "baked into" success and failure rates at advancing bases

That's fair enough. It's a bummer, I would get such a big kick out of watching that animation.

I can't tell you how surprised I was when I saw my first instance of a base runner getting caught in a rundown between 2nd & 3rd base. Back and forth the runner went along with the baseball tossed between infielders. I have seen one additional rundown between 3rd base and home plate since that first instance. When I saw the rundown for the very first time, I remember having a huge grin on my face...I thought it was fantastic that the OOTP developers implemented such a situation. I still feel that way and I am very thankful that it doesn't happen often.

I don't believe I would feel quite the same way about a base runner tripping as he rounds one of the bases, but that's just me.

Something I had never seen, but did see in a game just a few days ago, was a runner getting caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd AND then ending up being safe at 3rd base. It was an opposing player so I wasn't thrilled about the outcome, but I was happy to see this be something captured in the game.

I wonder if the devs realize how much joy some of us get out of tiny details that we are just as likely to miss.

Oh, I'm sure they do. Like I said, I had an ear-to-ear smile on my face the first time I saw a rundown...I'm sure I haven't been the only one, over the years, who's gotten unexpected joy from something in the sim.

I felt the same way the first time I saw the dugouts empty after Don Mattingly got drilled by a fastball. :D I'm also very glad that doesn't happen too often either.

Playing out my games was the best decision I ever made. I only do 1-Pitch mode, so if I try to play fast I can get through a game in like ~15 minutes...I timed it once, but I don't remember exactly what it was for that particular game.

If the OOTP devs are ever able to iron out all of the bugs that happen when playing out a game, I will be over the moon. :)

I remember the moment of "that's cool" I felt when I noticed the players signal that they "got it" by raising their hand on a pop up.

Oh my goodness! I'll have to look out for that. Thank you

I just had my first rundown. Really cool. Especially since it doesn't happen often.

Getting that to work was a lot of fun :)

I've played out over 1000 games in my Rays save and just in the last week saw for the first time an apparent double wiped out when the batter failed to touch first base.

No way! Really? Oh man...That's awesome. Fortunately, with my brain being damaged, I will most likely forget all about this and I'll be completely surprised when it finally happens to me.

Just last week, I can't remember if I were hitting or if it were the AI, but there was a runner on first base who took off as soon as the ball was hit - it ended up being a standard long fly ball for the 3rd out - but this runner totally cut second base on his way to third base. I thought I was seeing things, but I pressed F10 and watched the replay. The inning was over, but I wonder if that would have been appealed by my manager. Please, don't tell me if it would have been or not. I don't want to know...just in case some of my neurons are still firing properly upstairs. LOL

That just made me think of a feature request!!

It would be cool if we could hit F10 to watch a replay of the previous at-bat & play and once the replay finishes, it says "Would you like to save this replay? (Y/N)"

And then we could share those replay files if we wished. The sharing need not be part of OOTP...we would have to share those files the same way we share anything else on the internet. But, if OOTP allowed us to save the single event replay file, I think people would like that.

Or, even an auto-save whenever you do press F10. Those individual at-bat/play replay clips could be saved to a folder that gets purged once a month or some other period of time. If it were an auto-save, perhaps it gets saved as an .MP4 file or whatever format the cool kids are using these days. :p That way people could post online instead of sharing a file that needs to be loaded into OOTP in order to be viewed.

I just noticed something today. It probably has something to do with the fact that I've been discussing these things in this thread...

While playing a game today the AI hit into a 6-4-3 double play. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it appeared that my second baseman did a sort of turn around jump throw to 1st base.

Am I nuts?

My team also hit into a 6-4-3
I didn't see any jump throw
Maybe because my head was in my hands

If I wasn't hallucinating and it does exist, it doesn't happen all the time. A jump throw might even be misleading. Perhaps it's the hop infielders turning the DP make so they don't get their legs taken out by the runner from 1st base, it just happened so fast. In this situation I am referring to, the base runner wasn't close to the base, but we know that wouldn't necessarily mean anything.

I need to add a new camera that focuses solely on second base. It wasn't too easy for me to get a perfect view of the play with the cameras I currently have for my older Yankee Stadium. I replayed it over and over, but a dedicated view would have 100 times better.

Happens all the time for me. Like Baryshnikov (or perhaps some pro volleyballer) has snuck on the field to play 2B. Makes me smile every time.

Awww sweet! I'm so glad I wasn't mistaken. I feel a tad stupid since I've been playing an unhealthy amount of OOTP since the beginning of 2020 - you'd think I would have noticed this several months ago. I honestly did not. As you said, Luckymann, when I finally noticed this I made that wide-eyed, "OMG! That's awesome!" face which concluded with yet another big smile.

Little touches like these are so important, to me, since there are so many other imperfect visual representations in OOTP. :)

I'm curious... Which camera view do you guys prefer to use for the Action camera? Do you use the same camera view for all three? For me, I like to use the Wide camera view for all three of the views. I like to have an overview of the entire field -- which might be why I didn't notice the 2nd baseman jump while turning a double-play for so long.
