All Time PT 21 Bad Loss?!?

I think my bronze level team completed what has gotta be one of the worst all time PT 21 playoff bad losses yesterday.

I went 122-40 and won the NC west division by over 20 games. Lost the Sub-League series 3-1. :crying:

Rotation with three 100 rated pitchers, Walter Johnson, Guidry and Sandy Kofax plus 99 rated Maddux and 98 rated George Earnshaw. Lineup with 100 rated Fisk and Ortiz, 99 rated Andy van Slyke, Yastrzemsky, 98 rated David Wright, 97 rated Tony Phillips and 96 rated Roger Maris.

Team seems to have a hangover from that bad loss too, I'm 0-3 in my Silver league today.

A 120 win team losing in (or before) the sub-league series probably happens over 100 times every week.

You'll learn very quickly that the OVR rating of your cards has almost nothing to do with how well they'll perform. I don't know what the current status of Silver is, but I suspect that team would get steamrolled by most Gold teams.

I'm getting steamrolled (1-5) in Silver now. Any advice on what I need to do to learn why? I do pay attention to the defensive ratings for position players, and based on another poster's advice, I don't have any 2020 Live cards on my roster.

In their first start in the Silver league, Guidry and Walter Johnson both got shelled. Looking at their profiles, both of them only have one 90+ rated pitch. Should I be targeting SP with at least two 90+ rated pitches?

I spent $20 on my new alt and it went 155-7 in Rookie. Every loss was separated by at least 8 wins and as many as 67. But, somehow, managed to lose 4 within 7 games in the finals.

Here's my pitching staff. I just put Kofax up for auction because I wasn't happy with his movement rating. When/if he sells I plan to put Guidry up for Auction and get SP with better movement ratings.

I've spent wayyy too much money on PT already. :D I can't stand losing. The fact my team is now 1-6 in Silver is driving me nuts lol

Pitch ratings are completely cosmetic in PT, so don't worry about that. Look for pitchers with balanced or reversed split profiles; lefty specialists like Guidry won't translate so well to the mound.

Look for control on pitchers, then movement, then stuff. You get disproportionate benefit to your BB% if you have high control, which is why people recommend it so often. There's a time and a place for stuff, and if they have control they can still be good. But in general, Greg Maddux-types are your friend.

Also, this is baseball. Don't overreact after a poor month. It doesnt mean you're doing anything wrong necessarily, although over multiple months you can start to see a trend sometimes.

The last thing you should really do sooner rather than later is customize your park factors. The strongest thing is to build your team around a set of park factors, but it's up to you how you use them (just know that neutral factors will never be optimal)

Thanks a lot!

Walter Johnson kept getting shelled yesterday so I auctioned him and Koufax off and reconfigured my rotation. It's now 98 rated All Time Legend 1929 George Earnshaw, 98 rated All Time Legend Smokey Joe Wood, Guidry, 98 rated SE 1995 Maddux and 98 rated SE Tom Seaver. Guidry has bounced back and is 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA.

I also overhauled my bullpen. I've got a 99 2020 Live Scherzer that I'm "stuck" with because I completed the Nats Live collection so I might as well use him. He's my closer now.

Setup I've got 96 AT Legend 1960 Lindy McDaniel and 97 rated AT Legend 1927 Adie Joss. MR's 97 Snapshot 1936 Johnny Allen, 89 SE 1939 Bucky Walters and Snapshot 1960 Gene Conley.

Long relief 96 SE 1983 Steve Carlton and 95 SE 2004 Randy Johnson.
With SP's in my bullpen I thought I'd have the flexibility to move guys out of my rotation if necessary.

I also made some tweaks to player strategy to take better advantage of Van Slyke and Larkin's speed and hit and run more with Frank Robinson, Ortiz and George Brett's contact rating. After those tweaks I'm now 15-11, 1 game back in my division and on a 7 game winning streak with three more games to play in April.

In addition to the park factors, I'm going to dive more into defense later on today. I've got a -4.4 zone rating and have committed 11 errors. Poor defense is a great way to lose games.

I saw another poster refer to an online spreadsheet of cards and how they impact the game. Do you (or anyone else) know where this spreadsheet can be found?

I am sure you did the live missions? I can only imagine the PP rewards for the season. And this is the worst finals lost possible after 155-7.

Yes, you start with the live missions selling most of the cards as you go. I was terrible at this: it took me over 12 hours to finish. Good players get it done by noon (on Monday). I made close to 300K in EP, didn't record it exactly, and 407K in Rookie). If you start with $100, you can buy peak Babe Ruth, SE Vander Meer at the start and easily make 500K in entry pool. These two players alone will generate over 100K each! I didn't even have all the pieces until half way through rookie (but the ones I did have were good enough!).

dboeyr12007 03-03-2021 03:15 PM

I have what should be the ideal team for Rookie and have not gotten hot yet. Only 70K so far so hopefully it picks up soon. Vander Meer and Newhouser have got the throwing fire achievement once each I am getting quick at the live missions though. If I start at 7:00AM, I am usually done by 9:30.
