Waivers Not Functioning

Using OOTP 22 with a league imported from OOTP 21. I am no longer able to waive players acquired in a trade. Player acquired goes into DFA list.
Right click on player, click on transactions, and click on waive player yields no result. Going to Waivers and DFA page and moving player from DFA section to Waiver section also yields no result.

Where are you in the season?

abwman 04-04-2021 10:25 PM

First 2 weeks of July

Actually, I've been checking and it seems that the waiver function works only with players on my 40-man roster.

Yes, that's correct. Waivers are to take a player off your 40-man roster, so are only needed if doing that. A player in the DFA section wouldn't be on the 40-man roster, so there's no need to waive them.

That's not right, and it's certainly not how OOTP has worked in prior versions. You may want to trade for a player because you want to develop him in the minors, or have him in the minors as depth for future injuries, but you can't, or don't want to, use a spot on the 40-man roster. So you make the trade and try to clear waivers so he can be assigned to a minor league team. I've been doing this for quite awhile in OOTP, but in OOTP 22 it seems to be unavailable.

I can confirm this. I claimed a SP on waivers hoping to sneak him through waivers myself and assign him to AAA as depth. But I don't have the option to place him on waivers. He's in the DFA section. The only way I could place him on waivers was to put him on the 40 man roster, which I did not want to do in the first place.

I know its worked in the past. I'd do it all the time. Claim a guy with the intention of immediately passing him through waivers.

Not being able to immediately waive a player you just claimed on waivers is correct - I don't think that would be allowed in MLB either.

The other cases, I know we cleaned up some cases around the logistics there to help some cases. But possible that we missed some cases where you should be able to waive guys. So if you have that, please do upload your files to us and that's the best way for us to dig into why it's preventing you from doing it.

I don't want to hijack this thread so if I need to create another I can.

But...in OOTP 21 and before I did it all the time. Is this an MLB rule that is now being taken into account in OOTP 22?

In MLB when you claim a player you must place them on your 40-man roster.

Ok. Then its working properly. I'm good with that. I just know that in years past that wasn't the case in OOTP. It probably gave me an unfair advantage anyway lol.

By the way, one amendment to my original point above is that OOTP 22 seems to permit waiving a player acquired in a trade if the waivers are irrevocable (i.e., the player has no remaining minor league options) but not one with options remaining. I haven't checked if this applies to players claimed off the waiver list.
