What to fix
So this is my first year playing OOTP, so I知 still getting used to all the nuances of the game. My roster is pretty much filled with guys 85+ at this point, but I知 still a middling team in the Bronze league. On paper, I知 at best the 2nd best team in my division, but 40 games in I知 .500. My 3rd year, same thing seemed to happen. Felt like I had a good team on paper, was well below .500.
My question is, what are some of the things I should be looking at if the team is underperforming? Currently splits is the main thing I知 looking at, and adjusting if needed, but I know there is all sorts of areas I haven稚 yet explored. |
One initial note is that while they have made adjustments to the balance between Live and Historic cards, the Historic cards tend to perform better than their Live counterparts with the same Overall rating. You’ll probably be getting a bunch more good advice so I’ll leave it at this first bit.

Is this true even at the rating level? Like if two guys, one live and the other historic, have the same power rating, say, will the historic player hit for more power? |

Almost immediately after I posted this, I went on to win 9 of my next 10. I have tried tinkering with some single player stuff, as Verlander/Langston were basically capped at 100 pitches, and I was noticing some weird PH/PR stuff. Not sure how much that helped, but I致e at least noticed my SP痴 (the ones I adjusted) getting closer to 120 pitches.

It is more about the distribution or profile of the ratings. The modern game's relative abundance of home runs and strikeouts compared to baseball history, is the main factor making the live players perform worse. Hitters strike out too much and pitchers give up too many dingers. |
That makes a lot of sense, thanks for explaining. Since the ratings are the very foundation I use to build my teams, I was worried for a second there that I was building on sand.
I can understand now how this would make historic players more valuable in capped tournaments. |

While you are improving your team...most likely the others are too. |
