Pitch Percentages
Is there a possibility within the game of checking either the percentages or numbers of each individual pitch types that are thrown by each pitcher across a game or season? The game does generate the info for pitch type and speed when you play (rather than simulate) each game so I'm wondering if in any of the many stats screens that you can review this data.
If this is not possible does anyone know how the ratings for the strength of each pitch will affect how often they throw them? I've seen pitchers with strong ratings for an individual pitch but which doesn't seem to correlate with how often they throw it. |
I don't believe the game tracks how many of each pitch type gets thrown, no. I also sense that if they did that, we'd have to start checking those numbers vs. real life.
My general sense is that it's relatively accurate-ish. Even guys with top-quality breaking pitches will throw more fastballs than anything else, in part because fastballs don't wear out your arm as much but also because a lot of breaking pitches and change-ups - sliders and splitters especially but practically everything outside of the knuckleball and that 55 mph curve some pitchers throw - fool hitters based on the hitters thinking "fastball". The splitter, for example, is a pitch that comes out of the hand looking like a 4-seamer but then comes in a little bit later and a lot lower. A good straight change also comes out of a pitcher's hand looking like a fastball but comes to the plate 10-15 mph slower. |
Many thanks for the reply Syd. Really appreciate it. Very useful info to know.
