Pitching performance woes

Well time for another silly question. Just to set up, I am in the commissioner mode and acting as GM with the program handling the managing as I simulate games.

I am continuously frustrated by the performance of my pitchers, particularly in the bullpen. I make trades, I promote from the minors, I scour the waiver wires. I even hired the top rated pitching coach in the game. But pitchers who have sparkling ERAs on other teams suddenly can't get anyone out when they pitch for me.

So my question is what the heck am I missing? Is there anything I can do to optimize my pitchers' performance? Is there anything I can do to make my pitchers better? I can't understand the continual pitching woes other than beginning to think I am cursed to see my team lose division leads in agonizing ways over and over and over again.

Any tips anyone has to get the pitching better would be appreciated. I have a top of the league offense and it's going to waste with bad pitching even though I have the personnel that should be thriving.

In other words...HELLLLLP!!!!

How is your defense?

You can't really make your pitchers better in a macro sense (in the micro there are things like hiring better pitching coaches), but you can make their results better (or worse) based on the defenders you put behind them.

Defense is not great (wild pitches even though I have an excellent catcher) and some dumb errrors but it's not really bad either. And it's more like they're consistently giving up clutch hits. I have seen some epic bullpen meltdowns that never should have happened and yet did.
I tried hiring the best rated pitching coach i could find but it's still an issue

maybe I am cursed :ohmy::laugh:

It will be hard to provide any further insight without specific examples of your players and their results.

However, I'll say that generally pitchers (particularly relief pitchers) are going to be more inconsistent than hitters. This is the nature of baseball.

Thanks. I'll chalk it up to me being born under a bad sign :laugh:
